Day 13: Sir Raleigh
Continuing the trend of first bosses of a whole series we have Sir Raleigh from Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus.
This Michigan J. Frog lookalike has an interesting backstory when compared to his Fiendish Five cohorts. He didn't become evil due to a tragic event in his past, but more so because he was bored of his rich and lavish lifestyle, and as a result, he took up an interest in piracy. Yeah, we have a villain who became a villain solely out of boredom. We don't hear that motivation a lot these days.
Anyway, Sir Raleigh is Sly's first stop on his road to recover the Thievius Raccoonus and to take down the Fiendish Five. To say he's not pleased to see you is an understatement.
Raleigh: How delightful. We have a guest. The only thing is...I HATE UNINVITED GUESTS!
Raleigh eats a fly to bloat himself up, bounces over to the main arena, and the fight begins.
In the first phase, Sir Raleigh will chase you down in an attempt to crush you. You need to either jump onto the arena's platforms to dodge the attack, or if you're looking for more challenge, stay on one of the platforms and dodge Raleigh's body slams by running from one side of the platform to the next. Eventually, Raleigh will deflate, allowing you to hit him with your cane. But you'd better hurry because if you're too slow, Raleigh will immediately retreat back to the center of the arena to eat another fly and the process will repeat again.
After hitting him once, the next phase involves all of the platforms, except the one you are standing on, sinking into the water below. On your one platform you still need to avoid Raleigh's body slams. Since you're on one platform Raleigh is harder to avoid, but keep dodging until he deflates again and hit him so the third phase will begin.
In the third phase, the other platforms come back as Raleigh once again tries and body slam. This time, however, when Raleigh lands on a platform it'll sink back into the water, so jumping from platform to platform is pretty much mandatory when compared to the first phase. Raleigh will deflate after a while again, giving you time to whack him with your cane and the final phase begins.
In the last phase, Raleigh will try something different. All but one of the platforms sink into the water once more, but instead of body slamming you, Raleigh will spin around and try to hit you with his tongue. After that, Raleigh will be dazed, giving you time to deliver the finishing blow, and Rioichi Cooper's page in the Thievius Raccoonus is all yours.
Sir Raleigh might be a simple boss, but it's fun and challenging enough to keep me engaged and he does set a good example of what the rest of the Fiendish Five will be like as characters. Good show, Sir Raleigh, good show.
...
Well that was fun, anybody up for some fried frog legs?
