Day 17: Death Metal
One of my biggest regrets as a gamer is not getting into the No More Heroes series sooner, especially before I made my favorite games list for last year's lent. Seriously, these games and especially their bosses are downright amazing. The first bosses of these game are especially great. So today, let's talk about the first boss of the first game, Death Metal.
First let's talk about Death Metal's design because it's a cool one. With all of those tattoos and face piercings, and that husky voice of his (No homo), he really does give off that old warrior vibe. But don't let his age of 55 years trick you because Death Metal is more than capable of a good fight.
You first find Death Metal relaxing outside his mansion, sipping on wine, rather content with his life, but given his line of 'This is no paradise,' it might be easy to assume that it's just a façade and he's secretly bored of his luxurious lifestyle. After shooting the breeze with Death Metal, he takes out his cleaver-like beam katana, Orange II, and the fight begins.
The fight itself is your typical hack and slash fair. He'll try and slash at you with his cleaver, and you'll try and slash at him with your own beam katana in an attempt to whittle his health down. Be careful though as Death Metal can swing his cleaver surprisingly quick, especially on higher difficulties. As the fight goes on, Death Metal will send out some of his mooks to assist him in battle, but other than that the fight remains the same. Just keep hitting Death Metal until his health goes down to zero.
After the fight, Travis literally disarms Death Metal, who tells him to master the ways of the assassin in order to be number one...and then Travis decapitates him, ending the fight.
That's all I really have to say about Death Metal. He's a straightforward boss fight with a laid-back personality and an epic design. Sometimes that's all any boss needs in order to be good.
Later, Death Metal, hope you're enjoying your paradise.
