Day 22: Medieval Dragon

Me: Hey, Lyra, let me ask you a question.

Lyra: Fire away, dude.

Me: If you were a game designer, what ideas would you have for a first boss.

Lyra: Probably something badass like...a dragon!

Me: Well, Ubisoft must have had the same idea when making Rayman Legends, because the Medieval Dragon is the next boss we'll be talking about.

After going through a short segment where you take down enemies and get the Blue Punch power-up, the Medieval Dragon rears its ugly mug for a boss fight.

In the first phase of the fight, the dragon will start by raining fireballs down on you from the background before moving to another part of the arena where it'll rain more fireballs down on you, this time diagonally. The dragon will then more to the other side of the arena where it'll shoot even more fireballs, this time horizontally, and this is your chance to use your Blue Punch to knock the dragon silly.

After a brief platforming segment, the second phase begins. This time, the platform comes with a bounce pad that'll take you to a hook that Rayman can grab onto, and he can use it to face the Medieval Dragon.

In this phase, the dragon will first rain even more fireballs from the background, ending it by sending down a wave that'll hit the whole arena except for one safe spot, and you need to take advantage of that safe spot to avoid it...or you could use the aforementioned hook to dodge that attack. But then the dragon will come out of the background to shoot more fireballs, giving Rayman the chance to use the Blue Punch to hit the dragon and move onto the third phase.

One platforming segment later, and now you're fighting the dragon on a tilting platform. This time, instead of firing fireballs right away, the dragon will shoot a fire stream and you need to take advantage of your tilting platform to properly dodge it. After two turns with the fire stream, the dragon will shoot fireballs in a spread fire fashion, and this is your chance to use the Blue Punch ability to finish the dragon off.

The Medieval Dragon is a good first boss that really tests you with the game's mechanics, and tests you on your skills with platforming with the segments in between each phase. I could do without the overabundance of fireballs though.

Yoshi: Fireballs, yum!

Me: No, get out! Dead memes need to stay dead! Lyra, get the gun!

Lyra: Already getting it!
