Day 23: Spider Queen

Me: Hey Lyra, I have another question for you.

Lyra: What is it, dude?

Me: What are your thoughts on spiders? Are you afraid of them?

Lyra: Pfft, I'm not afraid of spiders. And to be frank, I don't know why people are.

Me: What about the way fiction portrays them like the spiders from Jumanji, Aragog from Harry Potter, among others?

Lyra: Those things are cool. Still not afraid.

Me: Okay...how about the Spider Queen from Okami?

Lyra:…

Me: Lyra, are you okay?

Lyra: Nope, nope, nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope,nope, (Leaves)

Me: We're talking about the Spider Queen today everyone.

First off, this thing's design is unnerving. The Spider Queen has a humanoid head with large fangs and no eyes, the backwards hands she has for feet, the inside of her abdomen having eyeballs inside it, and she lets out a screech that's the equivalent of nails on chalkboard every time you deal damage to her!

Yeah, I'd say this is the scariest boss on this marathon.

Anyway, after finding Kokari's dog Ume resting inside the Spider Queen's abdomen, a being which looks like Orochi appears and attacks Amaterasu and Issun. This in turn wakes up the Spider Queen and the fight begins.

What you need to do is take advantage of the Konohana Blossoms that surround the arena and use your Vine ability to open up the Spider Queen's abdomen. You need to attach two vines to her abdomen in order to open it up. After the first vine, however, The Spider Queen will stomp around in an attempt to shake the vine off, and this in turn will cause stalactites to fall from the ceiling, and these can be kind of tough to avoid.

After attaching the second vine, the Spider Queen's abdomen will open up and here is your chance to attack the eyeballs inside it. But you'd better hurry because the Spider Queen will wake back up and if you're still in its abdomen, it'll eat you up and spit you out, taking one solar unit of damage in the process.

Throughout the fight, the Spider Queen will attack Amaterasu by spitting some web at her, throwing orbs of dark energy, charging at you, or throwing a giant egg that needs to be Power Slashed. Doing so will stun her for a brief time, and you can use this time to attach the vines to her abdomen. Most of these attacks are easy to avoid and personally never gave me much trouble.

After destroying the eyeballs inside the Spider Queen's abdomen, the fight is over and all that remains of her is a now beautiful flower.

Overall, the battle against the Spider Queen is as fun as it is creepy as hell. At least I can take solace in knowing that we never have to see this creepy arachnid ever again...right?

(Insert her spirit appearing in the Sunken Ship here)

I've got to learn to keep my big fucking mouth shut sometimes.
