Chapter 3

Class 1-A was back in session as Oliver took his seat. Some of the students talked about the attention they were receiving after the U.S.J. Incident on the news, as well as the rise to what was known as the "League of Villains". But a lot of them were focused on Oliver, who had bandages wrapped around his neck.

"Yo, you alright? That looks pretty bad," Sero commented, pointing at his own neck to illustrate what he was talking about.

"Indeed, Midoriya mentioned how bad your injuries were. He said that your neck was...falling apart..." Tokoyami said, Kirishima and Sato shuddering.

"Also Asui said you teleported me and that guy with the hands!" Mineta said. "And he went splashing into the water! Teleporting sucked but damn that was so cool!"

Oliver blushed as Todoroki spoke up, the cold and reserved student appearing to be narrowing his eyes at him. "It was really reckless of you to rush in, especially with the leaders of those villains down there. You're lucky that All Might showed up," he said.

Before Oliver could say anything, Iida went to the front of the class. "Attention, homeroom class is about to begin! Everyone, stop talking and take your seats!" he yelled.

"Uhh...we're all sitting already," Kirishima said.

"Yeah, you're the only one standing," Sero said.

As Iida went to his own seat with a disgruntled look, the door opened to reveal Mr. Aizawa, his face entirely bandaged and his arms in slings and casts. "Mr. Aizawa! What're you doing here?!" the class erupted as he walked in.

"What the...he should be in bed recovering," Sato muttered.

"Mr. Aizawa, I'm glad you're alright!" Iida said, raising his hand, as Uraraka sweated at the sight of their teacher limping into class.

"My well-being is irrelevant. What's important that your fight isn't over yet," he said. The class began to mutter amongst themselves as his words sank in. Oliver gulped nervously, which hurt his still healing throat. "The U.A. Sports Festival is about to start."

The class erupted into excited chatter and talking as Oliver tapped Tokoyami. "What's the Sports Festival?" he whispered to the bird headed student.

"The U.A. Sports Festival is an annual event where all of the student body participates in massive competitions, showcasing their abilities to Pro-heroes watching," Tokoyami said.

"Yeah, it's an opportunity to be spotted by the heroes and work your way up to one day being a pro," Yaoyorozu explained. "You didn't have anything like this in America?"

"Not really," Oliver muttered. "We had a few festivals here and there but they were always limited to enjoyment."

"I see," Yaoyorozu said as she looked back to the front of the class, where Mr. Aizawa continued to explain the importance of this event, which slowly got Oliver more and more invested into the festival.

When classes up to lunchtime ended, the sports festival was all anyone could talk about. Oliver was with Yaoyorozu, Jiro, Kaminari, and Shoji. "Man, you're so lucky Shoji. People are bound to see your unique quirk," Kaminari sighed.

"Yes, but what's important is that I show them how useful I can be," Shoji said, clenching his fist. Though his face mask hid his expression, it was clear he was excited too.

"No doubt you'll make a scene too," Jiro snickered, much to Kaminari's ire. Yaoyozoru smiled and giggled under her hand as Oliver looked down. "Huh, what's wrong?" Jiro asked, stopping her teasing to look to the transfer student.

"I'm only wondering...what my quirk would do to be spotted by any heroes. It has no offensive potential, and I could only use it for rescues and such. Or to piss people off," Oliver said.

"You used it on that villain a few days ago, and it saved you," Yaoyorozu said. "You should be proud."

"Shigaraki," Oliver said, making the other four look at him. "His name was Shigaraki. And that warp villain everyone's talking about is named Kurogiri."

"Wait, what? Don't tell me you know them personally!" Kaminari cried.

"W-what? Of course not, they were talking right in front of me-" Oliver protested before coughing violently, Shoji patting his back. "Well...that's what I remember anyway. They were going to teleport me away because of my quirk, they called it an asset. Makes me wonder...what if it's a villain's quirk and not a hero's?"

"Don't say that, they wanted your quirk because they were afraid of it! You are hero material, don't you ever forget that," Yaoyorozu said determinedly. Oliver looked to see Yaoyorozu, before blushing brightly and covering his face. "D-did I say something wrong?" the class vice representative asked nervously.

"No, I think you said all the right things," Jiro said reassuredly. Oliver slowly removed his hands from his face before sighing.

His train of thought was immediately cut off when Uraraka spun him around in his seat and grabbed his shoulders violently. "I said I'm gonna do my BEEESSSST!" she roared in his face.

Oliver cried out in shock and fell over in his chair as Uraraka cheered like a silverback gorilla on steroids. Jiro and Kaminari burst into laughter as Shoji helped the shaken transfer student back to his seat.

"Hey...Yaoyorozu?" Oliver asked once he'd stopped coughing and sat down. "M-mind if I sit with you at lunch?"

"Huh? Of course not, why?" Yaoyorozu asked, as Jiro peered at Oliver curiously.

"W-well...I always like to sit alone during lunch back at my old school in America, but...I wanted to eat with people I'm comfortable with..." the petite transfer student said. "I hope that explanation isn't weird..."

"Well duh, it isn't. We all wanna hang around people we like," Kaminari said.

"Yes. I'm flattered you feel that way around me," Yaoyorozu said, making Oliver blush again, though this time she didn't notice. "So yes, we can eat together."

"O-OK," Oliver said, still a bit jittery. He didn't notice Uraraka continuing to shout about doing her best. When it was finally time to head to the cafeteria, Oliver stuck close with the punk student, the dumb student, ponytailed student, who asked him questions about America.

"So, what's it like there?" Yaoyorozu asked excitedly. "Are the schools just as beautiful there? Oh, what about the houses and parks?"

"I heard they have some pretty good music," Jiro said. "Pretty punk rock if I say so."

"Umm, it's not as pretty as here," Oliver said. "There's lots of cities...and industries...but the food's pretty good. I'm usually more familiar with American foods, so that's what I make to bring here."

"Huh?" Kaminari asked. "You brought food? I don't see a lunch box though." Oliver held up his large backpack and Kaminari blinked. "Wait, just how much food did you bring?!"

"N-no, my backpack isn't my lunch box. I just carry everything in it," the American transfer student said. "It isn't much actually...just a burger and fries."

"Huh?" Yaoyorozu and Jiro asked. They would soon learn what he meant when they saw what his lunch box held. A hot double cheeseburger with bacon and mushrooms, with a heaping pile of fries lathered in thousand island sauce. The fries took up two thirds of his entire lunch box. "How does all that stay in place?" Kaminari asked at the mysteriously neat arrangement of food.

"I always put my lunch box at the bottom, and my backpack right side up," Oliver said nervously, looking down at his warm lunch. "Anyways...it was pretty hard to cook, so I might try simpler stuff next time."

"This is what they call a burger, huh?" Kaminari said, looking at Oliver's food curiously. "I've never seen one before. Heard of one, but never actually saw one."

"Smells good. What's in there?" Jiro asked, also looking at the double cheeseburger. "There's a lot of stuff in there."

"Uhh...beef, mushrooms, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, garlic butter, and bacon," Oliver said, looking down at his burger and lifting it up. Juices dripped down from the meats. "It's kinda unhealthy, anyways, what did you get?"

"Steak," Kaminari said. His plate had a large expensive looking steak on it.

"Curry and takoyaki," Jiro said, looking to her own plate. Indeed, her plates had katsudon with curry and rice, with eight balls of takoyaki on the side.

"Sushi," Yaoyorozu said, showing her plate with a dozen neatly stacked rolls with scallops and red sauce, probably spicy sauce.

"I never had sushi before," Oliver said. "W-wanna trade?"

"Huh? Oh, sure!" Yaoyorozu said, brandishing a pair of fancy chopsticks from her skin. "Here, take two of mine."

Oliver took two rolls, dynamite rolls as Yaoyorozu called them, and he gave a few fork-fulls of sauced fries. "Thanks," he said before eating one of the rolls. "This...this is really good," he commented as he chewed, smiling brightly. It wasn't as spicy as he expected, but it had a kick that made him feel the right amount of heat.

When he turned to see Yaoyorozu, he froze. Her smiling mouth was stuffed with some of the fries he'd given her. Jiro and Kaminari also snagged a few from her plate and were eating them. "W-whoa! These are awesome!" Kaminari said as he swallowed. "You made these? You're a great cook!"

"So fluffy...tastes so good..." Yaoyorozu uttered quietly.

"They're kinda soggy, but damn these are pretty good. How do you do these, I heard fries are hard to make," Jiro said before going back to her curry.

"Well...I guess the trick is how you cook it? I use baked potatoes for these ones, so they keep that pre-cooked texture when I fry them," Oliver said before coughing and looking away. "S-sorry." As he looked down, he ate the second roll and some of his own fries.

"Wow, you're a lot more chatty when it comes to food. You like cooking, huh?" Kaminari asked. Oliver blushed brightly and looked down, nodding. It always embarrassed him when he got talkative, it only proceeded to make him look like a geek.

"My mother normally discourages me from eating these sorts of foods, but they are just so good!" Yaoyorozu said before stuffing another handful of fries in her mouth. Jiro and Kaminari covered their mouths to prevent snickering out loud. "I don't think I've ever seen Yaomomo eat like this," Jiro said in amusement.

"Yaomomo?" Oliver asked, tilting his head a bit in confusion.

"It's her first and last name put together. Momo plus Yaoyozoru," Jiro said.

"Huh," Kaminari said. "Hey, can we call you that?"

"Hmm? Of course," Yaoyorozu said, stopping her scarfing of fries to look at the electrifying boy. "Whatever makes you feel more comfortable, I'll accept." She didn't know that her mouth was still full.

Oliver let out a squeak, and Yaoyozoru turned to see him. Oliver was shaking badly, hands over his mouth as he looked back at the ponytailed girl. "Your...your face..." he whispered. Kaminari burst out laughing before Jiro stuck one of her earplugs into Kaminari's ear, though she too was struggling to compose herself.

Yaoyorozu blinked before forming and pulling a small mirror out of her arm, looking into it to see what they were laughing at. Her face exploded in a bright red blush as she saw the source of her classmate's amusement. Her lower face was smeared in thousand island sauce, and her cheeks were bulged outward thanks to the unhealthy amount of fries she'd consumed earlier.

"I-I'm sorry!" Yaoyorozu cried after frantically swallowing, wiping her face down with a napkin and taking a swig out of her teacup. "That was very unbecoming of me, I won't do it again!"

"You don't have to worry about that," Jiro said after she calmed down. "It's cool to see you let loose occasionally."

"I...I suppose so," the embarrassed girl said as she smiled over to Oliver, who calmed down. "Thank you for sharing with us, those fries were very delicious indeed."

Oliver blushed nervously as he looked down, wiping his hands with a napkin as he nodded. "Y-you're welcome."

"Oh yeah, about the Sports Festival. What're we supposed to be prepared for?" Kaminari asked as he ate a few more fries from Yaoyorozu's plate.

"Who knows? The events are all different every year. So it's really a bunch of wild cards," Jiro said.

"Also related to the festival, the quirks. I don't know all of our class quirks," Oliver said as he ate a fry. "Could you give me the rundown?"

"Well, let's see. Some quirks are easy. Shoji has multiple arms he can use to form different useful senses, Ojiro has that tail, Ashido shoots acid from her body, Asui has frog traits and abilities, Bakugo's sweat is explosive, Hagakure is invisible, and Aoyama shoots a laser out of his belly button, and Todoroki can shoot fire out of one side of his body and ice out of the other. But he only ever uses ice," Yaoyorozu listed. "Others are a bit complex. My quirk lets me make anything I want or need out of body fat and lipids, though I need to know the exact atomic and molecular components in order to do so. Tokoyami has a living shadow entity inside him that he calls Dark Shadow. Dark Shadow appears to be intelligent and capable of independent movement."

"My quirk is these things," Jiro said, her ear plugs extending. "I can use these for super sensitive hearing, and they can plug into speakers or stuff and amplify my heartbeat as a form of sound attack. I work best when it comes to reconnaissance though. Kaminari is a walking battery, there's literally no other way you can describe his quirk."

"Hey, you could've let me say that on my own!" Kaminari cried, before popping a few fries in his mouth.

"Sero shoots tape from his elbows, Sato can eat sugar and turn that into pure strength and stamina for a limited amount of time, Koda can communicate with and command animals directly, Kirishima can harden his skin for defense and offense, Uraraka can touch things and make things weightless, Iida has super speed, Mineta has those super sticky balls on his head, and Midoriya...he's a special case," Yaoyorozu said.

"Huh? What do you mean?" Oliver asked quietly, rubbing his throat out of habit.

"He appears to have some sort of strength amplification quirk. He can make pretty strong blows, but it appears to have some sort of unforeseen backlash. Every hit he lands tends to break his bones," Yaoyorozu said. "On our first day, we had a quirk assessment test. He managed to throw a ball extremely far, but he broke his finger in the process. At the U.S.J. incident, he'd managed to completely shatter both legs and his left arm in the fight."

"W-what?" Oliver asked before thinking back to the battle, as much as he didn't want to. "Wait, when he tried to rush the villain who was choking me, he threw a punch with his right arm, which that giant creature thing...the Nomu...managed to block."

"His right arm? It was completely fine if I remember right," Kaminari said, swallowing another few fries while reaching for a few more on Yaoyorozu's plate. "Maybe he tried using a different form? I think he mentioned something along those lines."

"Well, Midoriya's inexperience and self harm with that quirk does make sense," Jiro said. "He did say he had discovered his quirk really late. It's possible he got little to literally no training on how to handle it before coming here."

"I see," Yaoyorozu said. "In any case, it just proves how much harder we need to train if we're to prepare for the Sports Festival. We have a little over two weeks to do that. Personally, I think it's best if we train on our own. It could cause problems in the future, and we do have different quirks and areas to improve on. Areas that others can't help us with."

"Right. Makes sense," Jiro agreed.

"Man, I'm so pumped up!" Kaminari said as he finished swallowing the last fry he took.

"Wait, you ate most of the fries Oliver gave Yaomomo!" Jiro cried before stabbing him in the ears and bass boosting his entire body. "You pig!"

"N-no, it's fine! Here, I have more, lots more!" Oliver protested, his voice raspy from his attempt at talking loud. He gave some more to Yaoyorozu and added some to Kaminari's plate, though now he had less than a handful after giving away so many.

"Oh yeah, what's your quirk exactly? You said you could swich the locations of two objects or people, including yourself, but you didn't mention any specifics," Jiro said as Kaminari groaned with both hands over his ears.

"Well...I can only use my quirk if I see where both the targets are. I can'ttransport anything bigger than myself, and the distance between the objects or people, or myself and the target affects how tiring it gets afterwards..." Oliver explained, coughing. "The farther away my quirk is used, the more energy I need to switch."

"I see. Can that be trained?" Yaoyorozu asked.

"Yeah, I'm hoping I could work on that. Maybe train my eyes and fingers and make my quirk work faster. Hesitation would only hurt if I take my time," Oliver whispered before biting into his burger, which was now cooled to a lukewarm temperature.

As the lunch bell rang, the students looked up. "Did we really take so long talking?" Kaminari asked, having scarfed down his steak and fries.

"Yeah, I guess we did," Jiro said, getting up and taking her empty curry plate back to the lunch counter.

"That was quite the enlightening talk. Before now, I didn't think much our class's quirks. But now I know to be prepared for what other quirks the other classes may have in store for us when the festival arrives," Yaoyorozu said as she ate the rest of her sushi, finishing off her plate before getting ready to head back to class.

Oliver swallowed his the rest of his burger and sighed, wincing as the pain from swallowing pulsed in his throat. "I guess that means we have much more to train for?" he asked.

Yaoyorozu smiled and nodded. "I'll see you in class," she said before heading out, leaving Kaminari and Oliver to pack up, though Kaminari was saying something in a full mouth as he hurried to the counter to give back his empty plate.

- several hours later -

Oliver entered his apartment, which was empty. He lived alone, had been for the past few weeks since moving to Japan after the transfer order was complete. He set his stuff aside and began to open his backpack, taking out his things and preparing to do homework.

As he prepared to start, he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. Sighing, he set his pen down and pulled his phone out and pressed the green "accept" button. "Hey uncle," Oliver said.

"Hey, how's the new U.A. student?" a male voice over the phone asked.

"Pretty OK," Oliver said softly. "My throat's healing OK and I'm keeping up with classes. I have a lot to work on right now."

"I see," Oliver's uncle said over the phone. "Hey, I know I didn't call after your big villain battle, but I just wanted you to know I'm glad you're alright."

"Thanks," Oliver said, smiling. "Means a lot. And I get it, you have your work to do. Mind if I call you back later if I don't fall asleep beforehand?"

"Of course. You don't need to worry about me, you should get some rest," the voice over the phone said kindly. "Just wanted to check up on my only nephew, is all. After all, family is important, is it not?"

"Thanks...appreciate it," Oliver whispered. "Bye."

"Bye."

Oliver hung up before pocketing his phone again, smiling as he opened his assignment packet, starting it off by writing his name at the top of the page.
