In the end Sasuke waves a quick goodbye to Naruto and follows his brother towards the Uchiha district. Sasuke is fine with walking in silence but it seems that his brother wants to talk.
''I was surprised to hear from mother that you made a friend.''
Sasuke looks at Itachi. What is he up to? Does he think their father told him to befriend Naruto so that he could use him in some way?
''Naruto and I get along well. We are best friends and we will not let anything happen to each other.'' Sasuke responds.
''That's good for you.'' Itachi says.
What is that supposed to mean?
But before Sasuke can voice that thought they have arrived at their house and his mother is standing outside looking very mad. Itachi walks past her into the house, leaving Sasuke to deal with their mother's wrath alone. Luckily Sasuke sees no sign of his father. But he is not out of trouble yet because his mother looks very angry.
''Do you have any idea how worried I was when you didn't come home Sasuke?'' She has her hands on her hips as she scolds him.
''I didn't know that it was already so late.'' Sasuke defends himself.
''Why didn't you check the clock?''
''Naruto doesn't have one and I forgot I had a set time I had to be home.''
I forgot I have a family waiting for me home. A not dead family that expects me home before dinner.
''I don't understand why I have a deadline I need to return home.''
''Because you are still a child Sasuke.'' His mother responds.
''Naruto doesn't have one.''
''Well then his guardian isn't doing a good job.''
''Guardian?'' Sasuke repeats confused.
''The adult who looks after him.'' His mother answers.
''Mom. Naruto doesn't have a guardian. The Hokage gives him money but that's it. He lives on his own.''
''What?'' His mother whispers.
They are interrupted by the sound of Sasuke's stomach growling.
His mother sighs. ''I kept some dinner for you, lets warm it up.''
