Mikoto looks at Naruto. How can this child smile so bright and act so happy? Isn't he lonely? She was so shocked when she found out he lived alone. Doesn't he have a guardian? Someone to look after him? He is much too young to live on his own. He can't even cook. Does he have to manage his own money? What is the third hokage thinking? What would Kushina say if she saw her child being treated like this? Tears want to form in Mikoto's eyes. What if it was her boy instead? She doesn't even want to imagine it. What if it was her boy, having no one to support him, to love him like a parent, always coming home to an empty house. No one to go to if he has a nightmare. No one to talk to about his day? It breaks her heart. How could the third hokage be this cruel? Naruto is just a child. Does he know what love is? Has anyone ever hugged him? He doesn't even know about his parents according to Sasuke when she casually asked him. He doesn't know about how Happy Kushina was to have him. What does he think? Does he think they didn't want him or did the Hokage at least tell him that?
How mad she is at herself for not doing more for Naruto. She knows she would have wanted someone to reach to her child if it was Sasuke or Itachi. She knows Kushina would want someone to reach out to her child too. But she listened to the suggestion of the Hokage and council. She thought it might bring her clan in an even worse light if she didn't follow their suggestion. But this cannot continue like this!
Naruto deserves better than this!
Naruto hasn't been adopted by anyone. There must be a political reason. The civilians are too afraid of him and most clans are probably not allowed because of the power Naruto possesses. But no one has been actually forbidden and if she just doesn't make it official...If Naruto just likes hanging around Sasuke who is she to deny those boys?
Besides the Hokage should have treated Naruto better. Now he is too late. She has done nothing long enough. She isn't going to do nothing anymore when she can clearly see she has to do something. If the Hokage, council, other clans or her own clan don't like it she will face them. Though she does think she will be able to get her own clans's support. Most have children after all and none would like it if it was their child in Naruto's situation. Most don't even like the Hokage and his decisions. And if there are people that can understand Naruto at least a little bit it is them. After all the look in the eyes full of distrust and hate is a look that the Uchiha know all to well.
''You are always welcome here. You and Sasuke can even train together if you want and you can always stay for dinner. '' She smiles at the bond boy in front of her.
Naruto smiles back and in the weeks to come Sasuke's home has become Naruto's too.
