Once Kaname and Zero were a safe distance away from the office, Zero spoke up.
"If Akari is so weak, why do you want her so much?" He asked, partly out of curiosity but mainly because he couldn't understand how anyone could deem her as weak. He had seen her endure what Rido did to her and then risk more just to help them. He had seen the left-over devastation from her fight with Kaname and she didn't have a single mark or scratch that he could see. He couldn't see how, by seeing these things, that anyone in their right mind could possibly call her weak.
Kaname eyed him critically. He wasn't sure why Zero felt the need to ask questions, let alone speak to him at all. Before, they had maybe spoken one word to each, out of politeness, to keep Yuki happy. If Yuki was there, then maybe a sly remark or a point-blank insult was shared. He wanted to know what Akari had done to earn the protection of a vampire hunter who hated purebloods more than vegans hate meat.
"She's emotionally weak when it comes to Rido."He told Zero simply. Zero himself found it hard to argue with it. He had seen first-hand how she ran around for him, doing everything he wanted. She was more like his slave rather than his lover. "She would do anything he said and step in to save him. Rido would never do the same. He doesn't care for her."
"You don't care for her either." Zero pointed out.
"I do care about her; I find her irresistible. I know she would be perfect for the role of a queen." Kaname admitted without any shame. Zero rolled his eyes, attraction didn't count as caring for someone or come close to love.
"Does love even exists for vampires?" Zero asked with a hint of disdain. Kaname's face softened a little before turning back into his usual unemotional expression.
"You can find love, it is possible. However, as a pureblood, love is hard and possibly impossible to find." He answered Zero. "Don't worry about Akari finding love after Rido. She knows what her life has install for her. She understands what her status means." He then added, Zero frowned and looked down at his feet.
"Doesn't make it any less depressing." Zero responded with a sigh.
"Why do you care for Akari?" Kaname finally asked after a short silence. Zero shrugged and looked into the distance as he tried to come up with an answer.
"To be honest, I don't know." He admitted.
"The only time I've known vampires to protect purebloods purely out of instinct is because they're related to them in some way. It would also be rare that they didn't know they were related or that they protected them without hate." Kaname stated, rubbing his chin as he thought.
"There is no way we're related. My family have always been vampire hunters." Zero stated with conviction. He knew his ancestors would have never have been a vampire in such a way, especially a pureblood.
"Just check with Cross, you may not be directly related. The only reason you feel the need to help her may only be because you were bitten." Kaname told him, ignoring the deadly glare that Zero gave him. "Now, I will see you when it's time for class." Zero blinked, he was completely unaware that they had reached the dormitory. He grunted in response and quickly found himself a room. He had a lot to think about.
Kaname on the other hand, took a slow stroll to his own room. A plan was formulating. He could use Zero once more, he was sure the boy would protect Akari and her pureblood status would stop any changes of him falling in love, unlike with Yuki. But also, the lie of being related would surely put him off her. It bothered him that Zero seemed to have a bond with Akari, he wasn't sure what it was and Zero was either a good actor or he too was clueless. Kaname had made one observation about Akari, she had an ability to make people trust her or at least feel at ease around her. It surpassed his own ability and she seemed to do it unknowingly. That was a power he wanted, a queen who could make anyone lower their guard and love her. She would be the peoples queen. She would be the one who would calm the storm when he took full control over the vampire world and start outlawing blood drinking. He would have to do it over time, no one would survive stopping immediately without help. He would increase the supply of blood tablets around the vampire world, he would campaign that they were healthier and was easier than hunting humans. He would then start putting restrictions on hunting. Then he would ensure that no human can be killed and from then on, any human that is feed from has to be willing. It would take years to do, but Akari would be able to calm the animosity towards him. But education would be key in this fight to stop blood drinking. He would certainly have to come up with some sort of educational program ranging from children to adults who may have lived hundreds and thousands of years.
While he was planning all of that, he would also plan to marry and crown Akari as Queen. He would then work with her to have their first child. He couldn't wait to have her at his side and a heir to continue his hard work.
The week was coming to an end, Zero was unsure what he would be telling Akari. But he was glad to be getting back to her. He wanted to make sure she was safe and unharmed. But he also couldn't wait to have a break from Kaname. He was sure that Kaname had made it his mission to annoy him as much as possible.
