Edited in April 2021 during lockdown.

Xavier sighed deeply with the worry that had consumed him. The last minutes had been frantic and confusing at the mansion. The professor had warned his students adamantly about the dangers of society but had forgotten that Emma wasn't like the rest of them and that the witch would react differently to danger than any of them.

The magic in Emma made her feel invulnerable, a dangerous folly when her wand was stored and forgotten back at the mansion. The witch had gone out to do some shopping and had taken Rogue with her as a driver. All fine and well if the situation had been different. Any other day Xavier would have applauded the two of them attempting to become closer, as peace was exactly what he wanted within the walls of his school. Especially between the three outsiders of the mansion, they needed each other even though they sometimes didn't realize it.

Things had not gone as Emma had planned, nor as Xavier had hoped for. That much was evident when Rogue had called Xavier ten minutes prior, the young woman had been frantic and had screamed on the phone in clear distress. It had taken Xavier a moment to understand that Rogue and Emma had been attacked as they left the mall.

Rogue had been hysterical on the phone and something really, truly bad had happened. Emma had managed to get Rouge out of a dangerous situation, something that Xavier commanded her for but the witch had gotten into even more trouble when her magical powers had become evident to the attackers.

In the rear-view mirror, Rogue had seen the men physically attacking Emma and it had horrified her beyond words. The young mutant had screamed at Xavier to come quickly, that she had no idea how bad Emma's situation had become. It had been evident that it was a life and death situation, especially since the witch was pregnant. If they were lucky, Emma had only gotten a severe beating, however, Xavier knew by Rogue's words that there had been more than that to the situation. The professor would count his lucky stars if Emma would survive the attack.

Immediately he had called out the X-men to go instantly to the Bird for Emma's retrieval. Rogue would head home to the mansion on her own, Xavier wasn't worried about her safety. The young girl would be fine, she was out of the situation and Emma had done the right thing when she had ordered Rogue home to shelter.

Xavier dreaded telling Logan about the situation and the professor tried to make the feral stay at home while the rest of the team would retrieve Emma and make sure she was safe before telling her husband of the situation. Logan being Logan had felt that something was off and refused to stay home to babysit. Xavier only nodded and allowed Logan to go, not saying yet what the mission was. It was difficult for the professor to find words to explain it to the team without endangering them all at the same time. Logan had, after all, six adamantium claws that could slice through the Bird like a knife through butter.

The professor knew that the deep feral instinct would bubble to the surface as soon as Logan would hear about Emma. It was inevitable, the strong mating bond between the two hadn't skipped Xavier's notice. There was more than romantic love, when ferals mated it was for life. It didn't take a mind-reader to see that, even though it certainly helped to understand the depth of the relationship between the witch and the mutant.

Xavier had tried to reach out to Emma with the power of his mind and had gotten no response. Her being a witch made Emma's mind control and power much more potent than any other non-mutant he had ever met before. On a normal day, Xavier should have been able to contact the witch over hundreds of miles without any problem. Salem wasn't that far away, if Emma had been conscious, she would have heard him and responded.

The silence that scared him more than anything.

Five minutes later the Bird stopped by the mall, hovering over the parking lot for a few moments as the X-men looked over the scene to try to understand what had happened. It was clear that something terrible had happened in the town of Salem, the destruction was unbelievable even to the X-men who thought they had seen everything. It was as if a bomb had been set off in the usually quiet town. When the X-men arrived the first thing they noticed was a deep crater buried into the ground and around it were the burned remains of human bodies.

As Logan hurried out his senses were attacked by a strong scent of blood that ripped at his nostrils, pushing the feral side of him out without warning. Logan smelled his mate in the air; her scent mixed with her blood drove him wild. After looking frantically around the parking lot, Logan could finally see a glint of Emma laying on the ground, her body perfectly still as if she was already gone.

"Goddamit," Logan growled frantically as he ran hurriedly from the Bird towards Emma with Hank fast on his heels. His heart was beating wildly in his chest and Logan couldn't hear anything but wild thundering in his ears as he hurried towards his wife.

Meanwhile, Ororo did her best to shelter the events by using her power to cause a thick fog over the entire area to try to conceal the location in case of any surveillance cameras. The X-men didn't need any more bad publicity, especially with all the mutant fright in society. Seeing a group of mutants take over a crime scene would not keep the peace in a society that already detested them.

Scott was on standby in the Bird, they needed to get out of there as soon as Emma had been retrieved. It wasn't safe for any of them there. If the authorities or someone else would arrive the mutants knew they would all be in trouble. It was clear that Logan and Ororo cared very much about Emma and they would never leave the scene without having Emma with them. Scott knew that and had all systems up and running in case they needed a quick escape.

The two men knelt beside Emma and Logan touched her cheek infinitely gently as if he hoped she would somehow be able to respond to his trembling touch and hurried voice.

"Em?" Logan murmured, hope against hope that it was all a bad dream that he would wake up from soon.

Fate couldn't be so cruel as to pull Emma away from him far too soon, it couldn't be that she too, like so many others, would suffer from her close association with him and the other mutants. Logan knew that he would never be able to face it if the witch and their child would perish because of him. It would be the straw that would break the camel's back.

Of course, Emma didn't respond, and Logan hadn't expected her to even if he hoped beyond hope. The injuries she had received were too serious for her to be able to walk away from whatever had happened to her. His sensitive hearing couldn't pick up any pulse from the witch, not even a faint one. With every second that passed, Logan felt panic taking over his being and the beast clawed at his ribcage to be let out to destroy everything in its path.

Logan's senses were verified when Hank pressed his immense hands-on Emma's pulse and his face showed great disappointment when he could not feel any flicker of her pulse. In a rush the large mutant pressed his head against Emma's chest, using his sensitive hearing to listen for a heartbeat or any other sign of life. Emma's heart was not beating, and Hank knew they would have to act fast if there were to be any chance of pulling her from the clutches of death.

Hank quickly put Emma in a correct position for CPR and started to pump her chest only stopping when Logan pushed his desperate breaths down into her lungs willing her to live. For the first time in centuries the feral could feel his lungs constrict in panic with every breath he forced into Emma's lungs as he breathed for her. Logan knew with every inch of his being that he would continue as long as it would take for her to return to him, it was the only thing that mattered to him.

The beast within clawed at his ribcage as the taste of her blood on his lips was added to the already blood scented air. The animal within wanted to rip and tear the world apart. One person at a time. Logan's breaths became more desperate with every try as the animal within came closer and closer to running wild. He would not be able to contain that side of himself forever, it was too much. His mind was unequivocally overwhelmed with desperation and fury.

After endless tries before the sharp ears of Hank and Logan could notice a very faint heartbeat followed by an occasional shallow breath that the witch took occasionally. Hank was not pleased with how slow Emma's heartbeat was but it was a start, at least her response gave them a flicker of hope. Hope was something that Logan had desperately needed if the wild look in his eyes was any indication of his emotions.

"We have to get her home, we can't stabilize her here," Hank hissed seriously and not liking the look in Logan's eyes when he turned to glare at him with a bloody snarl on his lips. The blood did not belong to Logan, it had come off Emma's lips when Logan was giving her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

Hank stabilized Emma the best he could before the two of them laid the witch carefully in a gurney and carried her quickly into the Bird. Logan was there every step of the way, his large hand never releasing its iron grip on Emma as if he was afraid that she and their child would vanish from him if the feral let go but for a second. The beast within was possessive and Logan was worried that her fragile grip on life would slip if he wasn't there by her side helping her to fight.

As soon as they had gotten the gurney inside the Bird, Scott took off while Ororo continued to hold the fog over the location as they retreated. Fortunately, there hadn't anyone come into the location while they had been retrieving Emma. It would have gotten ugly very fast, especially with an already growling Logan who looked like he was about to snap.

Finally, the Bird reached the mansion where Hank plugged Emma to a heart monitor to keep an eye on her vitals that were getting worse by the second. The doctor was deeply concerned, there were clear injuries to her body that made him certain that she had serious internal bleeding.

How he would be able to do fix her from such a grave injury was beyond him, they couldn't take her to the hospital. There were too many questions that were bound to be asked that none of the mutants was able to answer without putting all of them in danger. The biggest concern was the students, they were in enough danger already and Xavier had stressed over and over again how they should never be in harm's way.

"Do something doc," Logan growled when he heard Emma's breathing getting faint again. Her situation was far from stable, the unsteady low beating of her heart told Logan that her body was struggling immensely to try to stay alive. How long her heart could continue beating was only a question of time, at some point her body would give up if they wouldn't be able to stabilize her.

"We are trying Logan; it's no joke what they did to her. She's even too frail for surgery," Hank said with more assertiveness in his voice than he felt within his being. He was more trying to convince himself than anything, Hank knew he had to operate and quickly if Emma was to have any chance of making it through alive.

As Hank worked, Emma's vital signs crumbled dramatically before their eyes. Finally, she flatlined and the loud sound of the heart monitor filled them with dread before Hank started to press on her chest administering CPR yet again.

Logan's breath got stuck in his throat and for a desperate moment, time seemed to stand still as he numbly watched Hank fighting to bring the witch back. The anguish that tore at Logan's heart was suffocating him as he stared intently at Hank who was fighting for Emma's life. He didn't know what to do or how to handle the situation. Logan's mind was in a hazy survival mode and the two struggling personalities within did not agree how he should proceed, what they seemed however to agree on was that Hank was to be trusted with saving Emma. No matter how difficult it would be to watch and be able to do nothing himself.

A few excruciating moments later the tired heart of the witch started up again. It was a little stronger than before and it gave them all hope beyond hope. Maybe, just maybe Emma would be able to hold on long enough for Hank to operate on her.

"I have to operate; she has internal injuries and is bleeding profusely. She's not strong enough but I won't keep her alive much longer if I don't act," Hank said hurriedly running off to wash and put on scrubs.

Beside Hank was Ororo, she had had experience with surgeries from the past as the X-men tended to get injured quite often when they bumped heads with other mutants. Nothing had however prepared Ororo for helping with the prospect of a long surgery to save one of her friends.

The surgery took hours and those that were able helped Hank as much as possible, Ororo and Xavier were more involved for they had much better knowledge of medicine than the rest of the faculty. Meanwhile, Logan lost total and utter control of the beast within as his adamantium claws popped out, ready to tear and kill anything in their path. Within seconds he was tearing down the walls of the lower levels of the mansion. The others gave him concerned glances but did not interfere, they needed all their energy to try to tear Emma from the tight grasp of death.

The routine beeping from the heart monitor pierced through the nothingness in Logan's consciousness. The mutant had been sitting at Emma's bedside for hours, keeping vigil for any sign of movement from his mate that he adored. So far nothing, she was broken and beaten inside and out. Her beautiful face was round and puffy, and her sparkling eyes were almost completely shut closed from the horrible beating she had gotten.

The darkness of her wild hair framed her face, emphasizing how deathly pale she was and how far she was from recovering if she ever would. Logan reached out and stroked her face gently as if afraid to hurt her, unconsciously trying to ignore the cuts and bruised that marred her skin. Hank didn't know about the baby, first, they had to take care of Emma and pray that the baby would make it through. They wouldn't know until later if the baby had survived.

Logan grabbed Emma's limp hand and engulfed it with his large ones. He had wept more in the last hours than he had done in his entire life up to that point. Logan's heart was as broken as she was on the outside. Without Emma in his life there was no purpose, no reason to face the eternity or however long he had left to live.

Logan had realized that if the witch couldn't be a part of his life, then he wouldn't want to go on. He would find a way to end it all, if he were to lose her there was no reason to continue his miserable existence.

"Come on darlin', wake up," Logan whispered fervently, his voice rough from all the roaring he had done mere hours ago when he had destroyed everything, he could put his claws on at the lowest floor of the mansion. The feral mutant had snapped out of his fury the moment that Hanks strong voice had called him back to the infirmary after the surgery ended. Logan's rage had snapped back into its cage and he had been able to be there for Emma while she fought to stay alive.

Logan felt sick to his stomach seeing how broken Emma looked and how little he could do to help her. The mutant squeezed her hand harder, how he wished the little witch had some of Rogue's mutation and would be able to absorb his healing factor, to rise again whole and without a mark on her as if nothing had ever happened.

For a moment Logan let his imagination run free and wishful thinking took over. He took a deep breath, closed his eyes and held her hand as tightly as he dared to. In his mind Logan was begging for a miracle, begging that something would change so he wouldn't have to look at his wife so broken, alone and helpless.

The moments passed slowly; the beeping of the monitors continued at the same pace. Logan was at loss to what to do and how to handle the situation without slipping into a rage. Logan looked up tiredly while a tear trailed down his face and fell unnoticed on his shirt.

"Come back to me Emma, I need you. I need you both," Logan said in a broken voice begging the witch and his child to return to him. How could he live without the witch that had brought such happiness into his life? Hank said that there was a chance she would never wake up, the trauma could be too much for her body.

If she would pass, he would make everyone pay.

Everyone.

Including Xavier who instigated the beginning of Emma's downfall. To part a witch from her wand was pure evil, especially to someone like her who didn't know much about the world outside Hogwarts. Emma had no idea what she was putting herself into when she was hired at the mansion, but Xavier had known better and should have warned her.

Logan rubbed roughly the nape of his neck in distress, his mind flew quickly between the despair in his soul and the anger in the Wolverine that wanted the tear the world down and watch it burn. His co-workers had felt the conflicting despair from him, there was no hiding his anger and hate when he had torn down most of the lower level of the mansion in his outburst earlier that evening.

No one had tried to stop Logan when he had turned berserk, the X-men had deliberately left him alone to destroy everything in feral's path as long as he let them in peace in the surgery to try to patch Emma up. In retrospect Logan would realise that their inaction had shown their compassion more than any words would have, leaving him alone to go mad had been exactly what he had needed.

The beast within clawed yet again at the inside of his ribcage wanting to be set free onto a world that seemed dead set on hurting those how dared to come close to him. There were only two left in the world that he cared for, both of them were living at the mansion and under the watchful eye of Xavier.

Logan had always doubted the mansion as a haven and he only hoped that Emma would survive so they could cut their losses and leave before all hell broke loose. The mansion would be one of the first targets between those that considered themselves normal and mutants that were on the peripheral of society.

Desperation had filled his heart mere hours earlier when the heart monitor had given the monotonous sound of Emma's heart flatlining, he would forever be thankful to Hank for managing to pull her back to life again when her body had given up.

"Come back to me darling," Logan whispered passionately into her ear before giving her a quick peck on the lips, feeling a burning sensation as his eyes filled with unshed tears making his vision blur.

An unfamiliar ache twisted brutally in his chest and forced him out the doors of the infirmary, through the mansion and into the cool night air where he stood watching the night sky and wished for a miracle.

A while later Logan felt the annoying irritation in his mind, a sure sign that Xavier was there.

"What do you want?" he grumbled annoyingly a while later and he stood quickly up to leave Emma´s sickbed and to the torn-up hallway outside.

"I am sorry that I have to drag you away from Emma, but there is a staff meeting. We need to discuss the events that happened," Charles Xavier said in a grave voice sounding as serious as Logan had ever heard him. It would do no good for Logan to sit over Emma every second, if the witch would return it could take days even weeks.

"Look bub, I don't give a shit about you or your meeting," Logan replied aloud feeling unnerved as always having Xavier in his head. He would never get used to the quiet conversations with Xavier and Logan always answered the professor aloud even if he didn't need to. Xavier's presence, though usually quiet, had never been as comforting as Emma's when she had been in his mind so often over the last months.

"I know Logan and I understand. However I think you must come, listen to Rogue's story and hear what happened before we arrived to retrieve Emma," Xavier said, his accent even more clear as he picked every word carefully, his Englishness seeping through each syllable.

"Logan and Rogue, I would like you to stay behind for a moment," Xavier said after a meeting with staff and senior students. There was clear animosity coming from Logan towards Rogue and Xavier could not allow him to leave his office in that mood. Logan needed to understand why Rogue had left Emma, he needed to understand it was by Emma's orders that the girl had left and that in the end, it had been Rogue's action that had allowed the X-men to retrieve Emma before it was too late.

There was no hiding the hostility Logan had displayed towards Rogue after the incident and Xavier needed to get the situation under control before the Wolverine would take over and attack Rogue for her unwilling part in the events that had taken place. The problem was that Logan's feral side refused to listen and was driven by pure instinct to go after anyone who had been a part of Emma's demise.

Scott and Ororo grudgingly followed the others out of the door of the office as they were more than a little curious to know what Xavier had to say to the two that remained. There had been a lot of confusion in the mansion ever since the incident with Emma. The staff finally understood that Emma was a witch and had been updated vaguely on the events that had taken place. Even though the witch wasn't a mutant, she still qualified in their minds as one of them. She certainly wasn't normal, and it was sheer bad luck that caused things to get so out of control as they did.

Surprisingly no one had come knocking on the door of the mansion for the slaying of three attackers from Salem that had been burned to cinder in Emma's outburst of magic as she lost control. Xavier had promised Ororo that he would talk to the police chief explaining the situation if the X-men were ever tied to the incident. He and Chief Brown had known each other for decades, and the chief was himself a mutant in hiding.

The professor had decided that he would claim self-defence of an underage mutant, it was a grey area after all in the eyes of the law. Xavier was not known to lie openly but he felt the situation called for some kind of explanation and this was the best one he could come up with. Chief Brown would understand and sympathise with the dangerous situation that surrounded all mutants.

"Rogue, will you tell us what happened? There will come no harm to you here under my roof," Xavier said sincerely to the girl, trying to ignore the irritated growl that came from Logan that was standing menacingly behind him and glaring daggers at Rogue. It was evident that the feral mutant didn't agree with Xavier when it came to the promise of not getting hurt.

The girl looked at Logan with wide, terrified eyes before pleading with Xavier, her voice shaking slightly, "Does Logan have to be here?"

"Yes, I believe he does," Xavier said curtly and feeling relieved when he saw Rouge surrendering to his decision, she had to trust that his decisions were in her best interest. They were all a family, what affected one, affected them all in the end. They all needed to stick together and be honest about what happened. Xavier would never have allowed the girl within the reach of Logan if he had not seen the events take place in Rogue's mind, it would have been too dangerous otherwise as Logan was quick-tempered and deadly when crossed.

Rogue fidgeted with her long hair as she began her story, "Emma asked me to drive her to down so she could do the weekly shopping for us here, and said she wanted to bury the hatchet between us."

Logan snorted with resentment and his eyes glared at his young ward that had been more like a daughter to him ever since the first day they met. Rogue looked at Xavier as if begging him to stop the questions or at least wait until it was just the two of them. It was clear to them all that the Wolverine was trying to break to the surface, the bright green tint in Logan's eyes was the first warning that the wildness within wanted out.

The way Logan's eyes locked their gaze on Rouge as if she was his prey unnerved her. It was clear that he was using his heightened senses to analyse her story and look for any inconsistency in her words. If she would stumble at any point, the girl knew the adamantium claws would slice her to pieces as the mutant in front of her was not her mentor but a furious feral that had seen his pregnant mate close to death.

"And what happened then?" Xavier pushed Rogue to continue her story. Logan needed to hear the story and they needed to clear the air. What the staff and students had heard had been a very family-friendly version of events, even if the students needed to understand the dangers of the outside world, there was no need to terrify them beyond reason. There was no need to make the children feel powerless, but they needed to know that the outside world was not safe anymore and that they were all in danger.

"We went to Salem, and when we were heading towards the car a group of men came. They knew we were from here. They knew I was a mutant and thought she was too."

A loud growl was heard from deep within Logan's chest causing the young girl to falter in her story. Rough looked panicky at Logan before begging Xavier yet again, "I think we should speak in private professor".

"Since when are you so secretive? What do you have to hide?" Logan asked, his voice rough with blatant anger. Usually, the kid had been like an open book when it came to him. Since when had she changed so much and why had he not noticed it earlier how secretive Rogue had gotten?

"Nothing! I don't have anything to hide," Rogue said quickly, too quickly for Logan's taste. To the Wolverine, it was completely unacceptable to hide something from him, anything that could perhaps help him to get the revenge he had been wanting ever since the attack had happened. The beast and man both wanted blood, how much would depend on how the story would be.

"Please continue Rogue. You were saying they knew you were mutants," Xavier said with a calming voice, trying to calm the explosive situation that needed to be kept under wraps for all their sake.

"Yeah. Before we understood what was happening the men attacked Emma simply because she was closer to them. I wanted to help but she ordered me home to the school and to call for help. As I drove away I could see them…" Rogue stopped for a moment to catch her breath and angrily pushed the tears off her cheeks that had been running without stop ever since the meeting had begun.

"I could see them Xavier, they were beating her so badly! So I knew I had to call you and get the X-men. Emma needed help..."

A second later Logan had lost total control of himself and the feral mutant ripped Rogue out of the chair and was lifting her roughly upwards on the collar of her sweater. The tearing sound of her sweater could be heard loudly in the room as the girl struggled without avail to get out of Logan's steel grip.

"So you left her there! Emma died because of you! Do you understand that? My mate and our child died! When we came there Emma was gone! We have no idea if either of them will survive!" Logan snarled beyond furious. He had had enough of Rogues teenage antics. This was no teenage drama that had to be dealt with, it had been a matter of life and death. Emma, and their child, was still fighting for her life a few levels down in the mansion. Despair locked this hold around his heaving chest, his last thread to sanity would break if he would lose the witch. He had seen too much, done to go on if the only light in his eternal darkness would disappear from his life.

"Logan let her go" Xavier roared before using his power to force Logan to let the terrified teenager go. Logan snarled in resistance to Xavier's power crushing his will, allowing Rogue to get out of his iron grip.

Rogue fell to the floor sobbing and looking scared stiff as she stared up at Logan who was being visibly held back by Xavier's mind. The resentment in the feral's eyes terrified her. They had had their arguments through the years, but nothing had prepared her for the wrath that came from Logan. Rogue knew without a doubt she would not have survived meeting Logan if Xavier had not been there. With shaking hands, she brushed the tears from her face as a pregnant silence filled the room.

"Is your resentment for Emma so strong that you put aside your humanity? That you leave someone out there to fight for their life simply because you are jealous?" Logan forced out finally, his voice raspy with disappointment.

Hearing Logan's words Rogue sobbed even harder; his words had hit a soft spot within her. Logan was so angry that he couldn't hide the disappointment in his voice when he added, "I have tried to be your rock, someone you could rely on. Tried to be as much of a father as I could ever be to anyone. Look how you repay that. First, you hate Jean for no reason and now it's Emma you dislike. Any chance of me being happy you hate."

Logan sighed, the heartache crushing him. He felt deflated beyond words, his world had crumbled in mere seconds and every aspect of his life had been destroyed.

"No I don't hate you Logan, of course, I don't!"

"Then give me a chance of happiness without trying to ruin it for me" Logan growled at her feeling his temper slip yet again. Rogue looked at him startled before nodding in silent agreement. She wanted him happy, that's all she ever wanted. If Emma gave him that, she would support them no matter what. After all, the witch had sacrificed everything to get Rogue to shelter.

"Now that we cleared this subject you Rogue are excused, Logan you stay here," Xavier said nodding at the girl to let her know she was free to go, and no harm would come to her.

Rogue stood shakily up from the floor and stared at Logan thoughtfully for a moment before she ran to him and gave him a crushing hug. Logan reluctantly accepted it at first but eventually crumbled and held her tightly as the girl wept bitterly onto his chest. No matter what happened between them, she would always be the child he had never had. He would always be there for her; he would always protect Rogue if she needed it. After all he cared a great deal about Rogue, she had been his only family for a long time, and he didn't want her to feel neglected. There was plenty of space for both Emma and Rogue in his heart.

When Rogue left the office, she looked seemingly much relieved as if a heavy burden had been lifted off her shoulders. It had all been a big, life-threatening misunderstanding.

In the early hours of the morning Logan stood up from Emma's bedside, nothing had changed so far and he felt restlessness down to his bones. He had been walking agitatedly back and forth in the hospital room before deciding to return to their room and take a shower. He desperately needed to clear his mind before returning to his wife's side.

Emma was hooked into equipment that would alarm Hank to any change in her situation, so Logan felt more comfortable leaving for just a moment. It was almost as if an invisible force was pushing him out of the room and away from Emma to leave was an idea that the mutant wouldn't even have considered a moment earlier.

Hospitals drove Logan up the wall on a normal day, the smell, and the sounds of the equipment were enough to force his mind to memories he was not ready to face. Not when Emma was in such a bad shape.

"I will be back soon darlin'," Logan whispered into her ear quietly before standing up quickly and walking out of the hospital room. He wouldn't stay away long, he couldn't stay away from the witch for too long.

Logan took the elevator to the upper floor and then walked up the stairs to the teacher's quarters.

As soon as the door to Logan's room shut, a tabby cat jumped from the outside to the kitchen window. It stopped there for a moment listening, when it heard no movement in the manor except someone watching the television, it jumped down to the ground and quickly headed down the hall towards the elevator.

It was as if the animal knew exactly where to go as it stopped directly in front of the elevator door. It jumped up, pressing the button with one paw and then walked quickly inside the elevator.

As the door of the elevator closed, the form of the cat blurred and an elderly, stern-looking witch stood there in its place. Her sharp eyes looked around quickly before pressing a button that would take her to the lower level of the mansion and to the injured witch that desperately needed help if she and her child were to survive.
