A/N: Having just helped put together a wedding for a good friend of mine, this chapter made me smile a little more than usual. Weddings are loads of fun, and it's one of the coolest things to exist when you know that two people are gonna be walking hand-in-hand for the rest of their lives. It's great having family and friends all together to celebrate that fact, and I'm hoping that I captured that essence in this chapter.
Read, review, and enjoy!
P.S. I totally thought that I had posted this already, so sorry about the delay :P
Fairy Tail Wedding Arc: Chapter 1
Traditions
Gorun spun around slowly, examining the building that he and his friends were standing in which had been decorated from top to bottom, until he came to a full stop, whereupon he looked at Gray, who had a giant grin on his face. "It looks great," he said, suitably impressed by all the hard work that their guild had put into decorating the Kardia Cathedral. "I imagine I should be thanking Carla and the girls, right?"
"Hey, come on!" Natsu yelled. "We did all the heavy lifting!"
"Yeah, cos we're manly!" Elfman declared heartily.
"If we'd left the decorating to you, we'd probably have a volcano instead of a church," Gray added, irritating Natsu enough that the two of them wound up butting heads and grinding their teeth angrily at each other.
Bickering aside, the massive stone building was now quite lovely in its appearance, with streamers colored blue and purple- the color themes for the two wedding parties- set up along the walls and pews, among strings of lights that sparkled like little stars. There were places designated for the flowers, but since the wedding wasn't for two more days, the arrangements had yet to be places.
It had been a month since the battle with Tartaros, and while the town was not completely repaired at this time, Gorun had been able to persuade the priest to lend them the venue for the day of their wedding, since he had promised that they would hold the reception at the guild hall, where things were more likely to get rowdy. Since the young man himself had lent his overwhelming strength to the repairs of the building on multiple occasions, free of charge, the priest had agreed to the arrangement. He had also asked Jura to officiate- who had been very delighted to accept- and since the man was a priest himself, the church staff had no issue with it.
Gorun had been rather impressed with Carla's organizational abilities, and how she got everyone working together- as well as they could, anyway- and turned the church into a scene from a fairy tale. She had actually gotten the Wizard Saint, Warrod Sequen, to agree to take care of the floral arrangements, though how exactly she got the reclusive wizard to do so was a mystery to all. Even more impressive, she got Gray and Natsu to work together on the decorations with only three fights in a week.
Kinana was right to put her in charge, he thought with a rueful grin. He shuddered with excitement, knowing that his wedding was only two sunrises away.
He had been spending a lot of time training with Azura and Rachel in anticipation of the war with Alvarez that was set to arrive in less than a year, but he also made it a point to work on his home so that it would be ready for him and Kinana to live in after their wedding. This unfortunately meant that he and his future wife had seen very little of one another in the last few weeks, except over the odd dinner or lunch break.
However, both of them had made a point to clear their schedules for the week, so that they could focus on their upcoming nuptials and spending a little more time together before the big day. This of course also meant getting to know their daughter a little better, which was nothing less than a delight for the two wizards. She was very fond of exploring the countryside during her spare hours, since she had largely grown up in the white void of a hyperbolic time chamber. She was endlessly fascinated by the movements of the land in response to the wind, and the eternal waves in the ocean, among many other things that Gorun and Kinana had often found themselves taking for granted.
The former barmaid had been a little worried that her daughter would have little interest in interacting with her, since it was her future self that had raised Rachel, but the girl had quickly put that concern to rest. "You're a lot different now than you will be, Momma," Rachel had told her with a big smile. "There's so much I wanna learn about you in this time period, especially since you're technically younger than me."
With that concern laid to rest, both of her parents were only too happy to tell her stories of adventures that they had shared in together during Gorun's time in Magnolia. She always listened with rapt attention, saying at one point that the way they spoke of their missions was far different to how she had been told them in the future, which made a whole new experience for her. Sometimes Azura would join them with stories about her and Gorun's time together in the service of Chronoa, but it was usually just the three of them.
As for the wedding plans, there had been a couple of changes, what with Makarov departing and Rachel arriving. Macao would now be the one to walk Kinana down the aisle in place of her father, and Rachel found herself helping Carla with chores alongside Happy and Momon.
Even as the memory of his daughter running about in an attempt to keep up with Carla's strict demands made him smile, Gorun turned around to see Kinana and the girl's party entering the church, causing his smile to broaden considerably. "Hey," he said as he and the boys moved to meet them in the middle of the room. "The place looks good."
"I should hope so," Carla said as she floated alongside Wendy with a clipboard tucked under her arm. "I've spent the last two hours trying to get Erza to settle on the ingredients for the cake, which had probably been the hardest part of this whole ordeal." Giving Gorun a grumpy look, she added, "The next time someone wants me to coordinate a wedding, I'm saying 'no'."
"Aw, but you've done such a wonderful job," Kinana smiled at the white cat, who pretended not to notice, despite the blush coloring her fur. Turning to Gorun, she asked, "Did you get your suit?"
"Yes ma'am," he answered quickly.
"You sure you're gonna fill it out okay looking like that?" Cana chuckled from behind Yukino, having apparently tagged along for the outing. "You're too skinny to look good for your wedding photos, Red."
Gorun glanced down at himself, noticing how his slimmed body permitted his gi to hang on his frame a little more loosely than it normally did. Shrugging to himself, he looked back at his friend and said, "I won't look like this for the wedding." He was in his god form, complete with the crimson hair and eyes, plus the unnerving sense that he lacked any magic power despite his obvious presence.
"Why do you look like that now?" Yukino asked him curiously, glancing at Azura as she did. Like her cousin, Azura too had tapped into her goddess power, despite there being no imminent threat to merit such might.
"It's part of our training," Gorun explained. "Rachel's having us use our divine forms for as long as we can throughout the day to try and build up our stamina, as well as maximize our control over our bodies while in the ascended state."
"The goal is to eventually be able to keep up the power even while we're sleeping," Azura added with a grin of her own. "I doubt that we'll reach that level of stamina before the war with Alvarez, but I won't say no to an extra challenge."
"That's hardcore," Romeo said, sounding impressed. "Are you guys trying to reach a new level, then?"
"Of course," Azura snorted. "This isn't where the path to power stops, not by a long shot. The next step is called Super Saiyan Blue."
Gray cocked his head at the girl with a puzzled look before he said, "That just sounds like it'd be Saiyan Soul with blue hair instead of yellow."
"Appearance-wise, you're not wrong," Gorun laughed. "I'll explain the fine details another time, though. Carla, is there anything else that we need to do today?"
"Rachel is running the last errands that I needed to have addressed today, so no," the white exceed answered. "We should be here tomorrow after lunch to get things ready for the rehearsal, though."
"Good, I'm starved," Natsu groaned.
The group came into the guild hall with smiles and laughter all around, Gorun and Kinana leading the way with interlocked fingers. They called out greetings to their friends as they headed for their usual tables, which were returned with equal cheer by their comrades. The mood in Fairy Tail was an uplifted one, even in the light of recent events, due to the upcoming wedding. Both wizards were well-liked by both the community and their guild mates, and so their union was something to be celebrated by all who knew them.
"Gorun!" Mirajane called as she approached the two of them.
"Master," he replied with quick bow, a goofy smile on his face letting her know that the movement was a mild jab at her more than anything.
"Oh, stop it," she giggled. "I was gonna tell you that you've got a few clients around somewhere that just showed up with a job for your team."
Gorun cocked his head at her, bewildered. "Kind of a bad time for us to be going out on jobs," he said a little awkwardly. "Isn't there another team that could handle this?"
"They said that the job can wait to be completed until after your wedding, don't worry," Mira told him. "They just wanted to go over the details with you sooner rather than later." With that, she left the group to go attend other matters that required the guild's master.
"What kinda job is that?" Gray asked as he looked skeptically at his friend. "Jobs are usually pretty time sensitive."
"Beats me," Gorun shrugged.
"Trust me, it's not the kind of task that you get to just pass up," a familiar gruff voice said from behind the group, causing Gorun to let out a yell of surprise and do a rapid one-eighty so that he could see who had spoken to him. The speaker glared up at him with an expression that many would have assumed to be disgust before he added, "You should have sensed our presence the moment we touched down on this world, Kaidon."
"Aw, come on, Vegeta!" another, taller man laughed as he reached up to scratch at his spiky black hair. "I remember how distracted Gohan was when he was getting married; it just happens! Besides, it looks like he's coming along great with that god power, so cut him some slack!"
The first speaker glared up at his companion while Gorun and Azura looked on, completely dumbstruck before he said, "If he's tapping into the red light of Saiyan divinity, then relaxing is the last thing that he should be doing right now! Stop making excuses, Kakarot!"
"Kakarot?" Kinana repeated as she looked between her fiancé and the two newcomers with growing surprise with each swivel of her head until it finally clicked. "Wait, Kakarot and Vegeta? Are they-?"
"My ancestors from the Time Patrol, yep," Gorun said as he eyed the two of them nervously. Addressing the two Saiyans, he said, "Hello, again."
"Wait, these guys are from where you come from?" Romeo asked, looking the two men up and down with a nervous eye. Vegeta was wearing his black-and-white Capsule Corp. armor, while Goku was wearing a heavy red gi with his power pole slung over his back.
"Yo!" the taller Saiyan said as he waved to the stunned group. "My name is Goku! I'm a Saiyan from Earth!"
"Hmph," Vegeta scoffed as he walked past his great-grandson, heading for the bar. "I hope that this place has some good food to pass the time. Clearly there are no worthy sparring partners here."
"Ah, don't mind him," Goku said as he noticed Azura's dejected look. "He's just cranky cos he was told that he had to come with me on this trip."
"He was told?" Gorun repeated, his head still spinning.
"Shoulda seen it," said another voice that Gorun recognized as the owner stood up from a nearby table, moving to greet him with a familiar smile. "Bulma really let him have it when he said that he didn't care to attend your wedding." In the background, Goku started talking to Happy, both of them equally intrigued by the other.
"Dad?" Gorun laughed a little, hardly daring to believe his eyes.
"Hey, son," Goken said as he shook hands with the younger Saiyan, though to the onlookers they could have been brothers. "It's good to see you." As he released his son's hand, he added, "I'm not the only one happy to be here, either."
"Mom?" Gorun gasped as a smaller woman with brown hair and eyes that matched his own followed his father. "What are you-?"
Crack!
The sound of a palm meeting his cheek echoed throughout the guild hall loud enough that it drew the attention of a few wizards from nearby. Gorun cupped his cheek with a grimace, saying, "Okay, I deserved that."
"Yes, you did," Lettis told him sternly. Then she relaxed and said, "But now that we have that out of the way, just let me say congratulations on your wedding. I'm really happy that you've found someone to share in your life." Then she wrapped him up a bone-crushing hug that drove the air out of his lungs so that he struggled to breathe, all while his friends continued to look on in a dumbstruck silence.
"What are… you doing here?" he grunted out. "Not that I'm… complaining!"
"I thought we were both exiled from Conton," Azura said as she stepped up to greet the other Saiyans alongside Gorun. "The Supreme Kai of Time told us that we were to have no contact with our old lives."
"She's a big softie," Goken chuckled as he shook hands with the girl and Lettis set her son down. "She said that it would be her wedding gift to Gorun. I do have to say, it's good to see you again, Genora."
"Likewise, Jicam," she replied with a large smile. She and the hero of Toki Toki City had always gotten on well, even after her and Gorun's relationship had soured, so her delight at seeing him again was genuine.
"Who else is coming?" Gorun gasped as he leaned against Kinana, the red color leaving his body as his concentration broke.
"Trunks, your grandma, maybe a couple others," Lettis told him. "It's just us today, though. We thought that we'd like to see the guild that you'd joined, maybe meet some of the people that you've grown close to."
"Of course," he said as he turned slightly to indicate his friends. "I dunno how much the Supreme Kai of Time told you, but I lead a wizard team called 'Golden Tail' these days, and several of these guys are part of it. But I think you really wanna meet Kinana, first." As he smiled at the girl, he added, "She's the girl I'm going to marry."
"It's very nice to meet you," Kinana said with a respectful bow. "I never thought that I'd get the chance to meet my in-laws, but I'm happy to be proven wrong."
"Aw, aren't you sweet?" Lettis smiled as the girl straightened. Looking at her son with approval, she added, "I'm proud of you, son. Seems like you found someone way out of your league."
"Don't I know it," he said, bringing a round of laughs to the gathering. Indicating each friend as he named them, he said, "That's my best man, Gray Fullbuster, along with my two groomsmen, Natsu Dragneel and Romeo Conbolt. Romeo is actually the youngest member of my team, but he's quite the firecracker."
"Nice to meet you," the young man said politely as he bowed to his friend's parents.
"Hey, you're related to Gorun, right?" Natsu said to Goku as he ignored the two time travelers, causing both Gorun and Gray to face-palm.
"Oh, this is going to end horribly," the saiyan-kai hybrid groaned.
"Yeah-huh!" Goku said with a cheerful smile.
"Are ya strong?" Natsu asked with a wicked grin.
"I'd like to think so, yeah!" Goku replied as he widened his stance with a familiar gleam in his eye. "You like fighting strong guys?"
"Hell yeah!" Natsu cackled. "Let's go, geezer! You and me!"
"Should we step in?" Yukino asked Gorun worriedly. "If the stories you've told me are true, there's no way that Natsu stands a chance against him."
"Yeah, but…" Gorun sighed heavily.
"Just let it happen," Azura finished for him with an evil smile. "This is gonna be great."
"All right!" Goku smiled happily. "Hit me with your best shot!"
"Fire Dragon IRON FIST!" Natsu shouted as he blasted forward, aiming to clock Goku in the face…
Only to be knocked through the ground, into the library below the mess hall, courtesy of Goku's hammer fist colliding with his head.
"AAAAAH!" Happy screamed down into the hole. "Natsu! Are ya okay?!"
"Did I get him…?" a dazed voice wandered back up in response. "Did my punch destroy the guild hall…? Is this his blood?"
"Aw man!" Happy yelped as he raced down through the hole to help his friend. "Not even Gildarts hits that hard!"
"Whoops, sorry about that," Goku laughed as he scratched his head with an apologetic look on his face. "I thought that he'd be able to take it. He seemed like he knew what he was doing."
"That pink idiot never knows what he's doing," Gray muttered as he glanced at Goku with renewed fear and awe. In the instant that his attack had struck Natsu, he had sensed power beyond even what Gorun and his fusion was capable of producing, and he couldn't help but be a little intimidated by it. It's a good thing that this guy is a friend of Gorun's, cos I don't even wanna think about what he looks like when he gets serious.
"I'm sorry about him," Gorun was saying to his parents. "Why don't we all get some food and catch up?"
"I'm always down for some food!" Goku said excitedly as he headed for the bar. "What do they have?!"
Gorun had more fun that night that he could remember having in a long time. Having his family being able to meet his guild was an unexpected surprise, and it turned out to be way more delightful than he could have anticipated. Even though Vegeta mostly kept to himself the whole while, the other Saiyans were more than happy to get acquainted with the many different personalities that made up the Fairy Tail guild.
Goken and Lettis were fascinated by Cana, who told them of how Gorun had saved her life with the Saiyan Soul lachryma that he had created. They were quite proud of their son's actions, and impressed with his ingenuity. They also found themselves intrigued by the different fusions that Gorun's actions had created, especially since the wizards' magics lent themselves to more diverse power sets than the fusions that the Time Patrol had seen so far.
There was a moment that nearly saw Gorun pass out from fright when he realized that he could not, under any circumstances, allow the Time Patrollers to learn about who Rachel really was. If they knew who she was, and that she was there to deliberately change the future, they would more than likely have the Supreme Kai of Time address the issue personally. Fortunately, he was able to use Warren's telepathy to inform her and everyone in the guild of the situation- without tipping off his family- before one of them gave her away.
Rachel wore her bane enchantment to hide her power before she came into the guild hall and introduced herself as a simple worker for the guild. Gorun initially worried that she would have a hard time with deceiving their family, as he was sure that she was eager to meet them, too, but she proved quite adept at hiding her true emotions. He then had to remind himself that she had fooled him quite handily, along with almost everyone else in the guild, for some weeks.
With that concern laid to rest, he was able to relax and enjoy the company that had gathered for his and Kinana's wedding. He was also surprised again when it turned out that a few more of his relatives were able to attend, as the guild hall soon received more guests.
Before dinner started, Gohan, Videl, and a teenaged Pan showed up, which delighted Azura greatly, since she and Goku's granddaughter had always got along well. Soon after them came Trunks and Goten (as a young adult), both of them giving Gorun their best wishes from themselves and a few others from the Time Patrol that couldn't make it.
"I'm glad that you could make it, Grandpa," Gorun teased Trunks, who reddened a little bit at the title.
"Yeah, well, we're family," he said awkwardly. "Of course I'd come."
"I hear you've gotten a lot stronger since you came here," Goten said as he shook hands with the other Saiyan. "The Supreme Kai of Time mentioned that you tapped into the Super Saiyan god power. Is that true?"
"Yeah, but it wasn't without its difficulties," Gorun chuckled. "The first time I transformed, I was in the middle of a fight with this immortal fire monster. It took the combined power of me, Azura, and most of the people in this guild to beat it."
"Immortal?" Trunks repeated, looking surprised. "Like Zamasu?"
"Immortality seems to work a little differently in this universe," Gorun explained. "There's usually some trick or another to undo the magic that makes the person or monster immortal, but it's not easy to find, most of the time."
"So how did you do it?" Trunks asked curiously.
"Honestly?" Gorun shrugged. "I'm not entirely sure. The phoenix that we fought was created by an immortal named Zeref who was cursed by a death god. We reasoned that perhaps the power of one deity could be undone by another, and with the way that things turned out, I'd say that our theory was correct."
"Either way, defeating an immortal being is pretty impressive," Goten said with a large grin. "Not even Dad and Vegeta have managed that."
"Don't say that too loudly, or else Dad might hear you!" Trunks warned his friend.
"Hey, Gorun," Cana said as she walked up to the three youths, interrupting their exchange. "Who're your friends?"
"Ah, Cana," Gorun said as he turned to his friend. Gesturing to the others, he said, "This is my grandfather, Trunks, and his best friend, Goten."
"You're a grandpa?" Cana laughed, causing Trunks to turn red with embarrassment. "Damn, your people age well."
"Well, I'm actually only in my twenties," Trunks explained as he scratched his head. "My wife and I just had Lettis, who will eventually be Gorun's mother in the future, before she comes back in time… It's complicated."
"I'll say," Cana chuckled as she turned to look at Goten with a raised eyebrow. "How about you, handsome? You got a family?"
"Actually, no," he answered with a polite smile. "I'm actually here without a plus-one."
"Sweet," the brunette said as she grabbed him by the arm. "C'mon, lemme show you some of the sights in Magnolia."
"Okay, cool," the other Saiyan said, his smile brightening.
"Careful with that one!" Gorun warned his relative as they started walking away, arms interlocked. "She's smarter than she looks!"
"I resent that!" Cana said over her shoulder.
After a hearty dinner at the guild hall, Gorun took his family out to visit his house, during which Goku pulled him aside for a private chat. "So, Vegeta told me something about Saiyan weddings a while back," he said as they stood under a tree in Gorun's backyard while Kinana was speaking to the others. "Since he doesn't seem like he wants to talk to you right now, I figured I should tell ya about it."
"What's up?" Gorun asked him, cocking his head curiously at his ancestor. He'd never heard about any Saiyan wedding traditions- after all, the inhabitants of Planet Vegeta didn't often wed one another, leastways, not outside of the royal family. Bardock and Gine were an exception to this, but most Saiyans simply took mates for a season to reproduce, and then went their separate ways.
"Well, apparently it's tradition to have the guy that's getting married to fight the dad of the girl that he wants to marry," Goku said with a big grin. "It's supposed to be so he can prove that he can fight to keep his wife safe, ya know? If the guy loses, the dad can stop the wedding from happening, too."
"Oh," Gorun said as he scratched his head. "Well, that's a little awkward, seeing as Kinana's parents are probably long dead."
"Aw man, that's a bummer," Goku said with a disappointed look on his face. "I was really lookin' forward to seeing how much you'd grown since you left the Time Patrol."
"This won't do at all." Vegeta's voice startled Gorun, so he turned around to see the Prince of all Saiyans standing behind him with his arms folded, and a deep frown on his face. "A proper Saiyan wedding demands that there be combat," he continued. "I will not have blood of mine shame himself further by not honoring the traditions of our ancestors!"
"But Vegeta, who's he gonna fight against?" Goku asked his rival. "The girl's parents aren't around."
"Then you fight him, Kakarot," Vegeta snorted. "If he wins by some miracle- or perhaps more realistically, as a result of your carelessness- then he'll have my respect for managing to grow strong on his own."
"Hang on, did you actually fight Bulma's dad?" Gorun asked curiously.
"No, the coward refused to even try," the prince muttered. With another glare, he added, "Fight as though her life was on the line. I want to see if your resolve holds up in the face of a far superior might, Kaidon."
"Then be ready for a show," Gorun said, despite his dry throat. He was under no illusions about his ability to defeat Goku in combat- there was no chance that he could win. In addition to that fact, he had never before been interested in measuring himself against his ancestors. But if there was a way to restore at least a little credit in Vegeta's eyes, he thought it would be best if he took it. "When do we do this?"
"Why not now?" Goku answered with a grin. "No time like the present, right?"
"Okay," Gorun said as he walked away from his house, gesturing for the other Saiyans to follow him. Glancing at Vegeta, he asked, "What are the rules?"
"You will fight until one of you falls unconscious," the short man answered swiftly. "There will be no vocal surrendering." After a moment, he added, "Kakarot, I'm sure you don't want to kill him, so stay in your base form for the match."
"Aw, come on!" Goku complained. "Why do I have to have a handicap?! I wanna fight him at full power!"
"And if it were me, I certainly would use my full power against him," Vegeta said with an unsettling smile. "But since you seem to be here to celebrate his wedding, I would advise you leave him in one piece for that to actually happen."
"Fine…" Goku grumbled as he took up his fighting stance. "I'm still gonna give it my best shot."
"So will I," Gorun replied as he settled into the battle stance favored by Vegeta and the Saiyans of Planet Sadala. That makes this a little more feasible, he thought as sweat lined his brow. Still, even with Goku agreeing not to go all-out, he doubted that he would actually have the chance to best his ancestor in battle.
"Hey, what's going on?" Gray asked as he walked over, his shirt missing. "You guys gonna spar?"
"Apparently it's a tradition for Saiyans to do this at weddings," Gorun said with a slight shrug, though he remained in his stance with his eyes fixed on Goku. "We are a warrior race."
"Don't interfere, mage," Vegeta told the ice wizard harshly, causing the boy to involuntarily flinch and back up a step. "This is a one-on-one match."
"Yeah, sure," Gray replied, remembering what Goku's casual blow had done to Natsu. Something told him that the shorter Saiyan would not be so kind if he lashed out, so it would be best to maintain a respectful distance. "Can I watch?"
"Of course," Vegeta said with a smirk. "In fact, go and summon your friends. They should bear witness to the might of the Saiyan race."
"We've seen Gorun and Azura go at it pretty hard before," Yukino said as she walked up, some of the other wizards following her. "Sorry, I heard part of your conversation."
"Genora and Kaidon are still fledgling fighters," Vegeta said haughtily. "I suggest you pay close attention to the capabilities of a fully realized Saiyan warrior."
"There's no such thing," Gorun said, surprising the shorter man. "Saiyans have no limits."
Despite himself, the prince's lips twitched upwards before he said, "I see that you still remember some of your lessons."
"Can we fight yet?" Goku asked.
"What's going on?" Kinana asked as she and the rest of the party approached, a frown on her face.
"They're gonna have a little sparring match is all," Gray answered, deciding that the simpler explanation would be best for now.
"Aren't we a little close to town for that?" the girl asked, her frown deepening. "Can't you do this somewhere less inhabited?"
"Huh," Goku said as he straightened up, Gorun following suit. "She's got a point. We don't wanna wreck the town before you get married there, right?"
"I know a place," the younger Saiyan told him. "Wait five minutes, then bring everyone that wants to watch via instant transmission."
"Sure!"
A few minutes later, everyone in the wedding parties, plus Gorun's family, were gathered in the mountains where the remains of Tartaros' base was still crumbling after the Golden Oozaru had demolished it. Seeing the area, Goku whistled and asked, "What happened here?"
"Kaidon and I wrecked a demon guild," Azura bragged with a smug grin. The rest of the group was gathered a relatively safe distance away, and the blue-haired girl knew that she would have to go join them in a moment.
"Excuse me, I did all the wrecking," Gorun said as he and Goku squared off against each other once again. "You took out a Demon Gate."
"Excuse me, I kept you from turning monkey-brains permanently," Azura shot back. "I get some of the credit for the crumbling fortress."
"Fair enough," her cousin grinned, even as sweat lined his brow.
"Genora, get back!" Vegeta ordered. "We're wasting time."
"Yes sir," she replied over her shoulder. Turning back to look at Goku, she said, "Stomp his ass."
"Hey!" Gorun protested.
"And good luck, Kaidon," she added before she floated away. "Zeno knows you're gonna need it."
I know it, he thought as he returned his attention to the most powerful Saiyan to walk the multiverse. Here goes nothing.
"You got this, Gorun!" Natsu called from the sidelines.
"Avenge Natsu's noggin!" Happy added, bringing a slight smile to their friend's face.
"Begin!" Vegeta snapped.
"Ha!" Gorun roared, letting loose with a Kamehameha wave. The blue laser smashed into Goku's arms as he crossed them in front of him to block- or so it initially seemed. In fact, the attack never even touched him, as he simply exerted his ki to send the energy flying past him in multiple directions, though none of it came near to the onlookers.
Quickly realizing that the effort was futile, Gorun abandoned the assault and tried for a more direct approach, flying forward at a breakneck speed to slam his fist into the ki barrier. The ground shook with the force of the blow, but Goku only smiled confidently at his descendant. Gritting his teeth, Gorun ascended with a bellow, the golden light blinding everyone to what was happening for a second. When they could see clearly again, Gorun leaped up high in order to come back down and deliver a resounding axe kick to Goku's shoulder, his teeth bared in a snarl.
Everyone was surprised to see Goku's stance give just a little, including Gorun, because he leaped back to give himself some space and conjure another magic circle that doubled his power level and enhanced his aura with bio-electricity. Giving vent to another savage roar, he lay into Goku with a series of ferocious punches and kicks, which the older Saiyan blocked with a single palm. No matter how fast Gorun moved, no matter how many times he changed up his attack patterns, the saiyan-kai hybrid couldn't get past his ancestor's one-handed defense, and it was starting anger him.
Off to the side, Gorun's friends were surprised at the level of ferocity that he was displaying. "I haven't seen him this worked up since the Eclipse Gate," Cana muttered, eyeing their comrade with an edge of fear in her bearing, a look shared by the other Earthland natives.
"You didn't see him when he was fighting Mard Geer," Azura pointed out.
"This is only natural," Goken told them. "Saiyans are all born with an innate desire to prove themselves in battle, especially against others of our kind."
"But Gorun has always kept that part of his identity repressed," Kinana pointed out. "He always told me that he wanted to avoid being compared to Goku and Vegeta."
"That may be while he has a calm and rational line of thought," Lettis said with a grin. "Myself, I'm the same way. But put me in the ring, especially against one of ours…"
"She's crazy," Goken nodded before ducking a backhand slap from his wife. "I'm sorry, honey. I love you, but you do not know the difference between a spar and an all-out battle."
Any remarks that Lettis might have delivered were cut off by an explosion that resulted from Gorun's Big Bang Attack. As the group turned back to witness the settling dust cloud, they noticed that Gorun had once again backed away a few meters and was eying Goku carefully.
"That all you got?" the older Saiyan teased him. "C'mon, let's make this at least a little interesting."
Gorun's wary expression turned into a deadpan before he muttered, "Fine." With that, his hair returned to its normal state, and his power level plummeted.
"What's he doing?" Gray asked with a frown.
"Give it sec," Romeo said with a big grin.
A scarlet magic circle appeared under Gorun's feet as he shouted, "Takeover: Saiyan god Soul!" His power signature vanished as his muscles thinned out, while his hair and eyes shone with the same light as the spell's emblem.
Goku's face lit up with a delighted smile as he said, "Now you're talking!"
His descendant said nothing as he moved at the speed of sound to sweep Goku's legs out from under him before performing another spin that ended with a double back-kick to the older man's shoulders, sending him tumbling away. Gorun didn't give him time to recover, either, closing the gap between them in order to lash out with an Orin Combo that put Goku several feet below the surface level before he fired a Double Sunday to try and finish the fight.
"I don't believe this!" Gray shouted above the noise. "He's actually beating that guy?!"
"Hmph!" Vegeta sneered, utter disdain on his face. "Even if Kakarot is fighting only in his base form, you're deluded if you think a meager attack like that will be enough to keep him down."
As if he had heard his rival, Goku shot up and out of the ground to engage in another round of fisticuffs with Gorun, the impacts from the traded blows sending shockwaves outwards that stirred up the dust on the ground. However, it wasn't five seconds before Gorun was the one on the ground, bruises covering his body as he grunted from the painful impact. Goku landed a few yards away as he said, "Not too bad, kiddo. Most people in Conton would've tapped out after one hit."
"Well, not to make myself a stereotype…" Gorun grunted as he forced himself to his feet and released the divine form. "But I'm not done yet."
Goku laughed, then. "Nice try, but I know you've used your best form. The Supreme Kai of Time told us that you'd only gotten the hang of Super Saiyan god a few weeks ago. There's no way that even you could've achieved Super Saiyan Blue in that short a time."
"That may be," Gorun replied as he allowed his tail to unfurl from around his waist as he flicked his eyes up toward the waning moon. "But that still doesn't mean I'm out of tricks." Reaching out with his hand, he conjured a purple magic circle between himself and the white orb, shouting, "Moon Drip!"
"What is this?" Vegeta asked as he cocked his head at the arcane symbol while Gorun became suffused in a violet glow. "Some kind of Solar Flare that uses the moon instead?"
"Actually, Grandfather, it's a spell that enhances lunar light and concentrates it onto a single target," Azura explained, causing Vegeta's brow to furrow even deeper. "To put it another way, it's a spell designed to bathe Kaidon in excess blutz waves."
Vegeta's eyes widen for a second before a small smirk crossed his mouth. "Perhaps this fight will be worth watching after all," he admitted.
Next to them, Kinana asked her soon-to-be mother-in-law, "Will Super Saiyan 4 give him enough of an edge?"
In response, Lettis simply smiled and asked, "What do you think?"
"Here I come, Goku!" Gorun roared as he took a wide stance, his body glowing like a violet star. "Takeover: Primal SAIYAN SOUL!" There was a flash of light, a bestial roar, and a surge in magic power so intense that the Earthland wizards felt suffocated.
When it all faded away, there stood Gorun, with a crimson fur coat and a lion's mane of black hair. His purple eyes looked wild, and his energy felt chaotic, even though it had yet to be unleashed in earnest. Even Gray, having seen the form in action against Mard Geer, found the appearance of his friend rather unsettling.
"Hehe…" Goku grinned. "Bring it."
With an animalistic snarl, Gorun shot forward at the speed of thought, his first punch colliding with Goku's fist and sending out a shockwave that levelled a small mountain. White-hot fury fueled his movements, driving him to actually outmuscle a surprised Goku as he forced the man back a few paces before smashing his chest with an explosive ki bolt that sent him reeling.
Instead of getting mad, though, the older Saiyan looked excited. "Now this is more like it!" he crowed. "Well done, Gorun!" With that, he unleashed a Kamehameha at his opponent, who was fast to respond.
"Kienzan!" Gorun roared as he used the disc attack to cut the blue laser in half, followed by an Instant Transmission to the older man's left side. Goku was in the middle of dodging the destructo-disc, so Gorun thought that he'd be able to take his opponent by surprise.
Instead, Goku dashed forward, underneath the yellow projectile, and away from where Gorun had just teleported, before he placed his own fingers to his forehead with cocky grin. For the next minute, Gorun found himself on the defensive while Goku used a combination of repeated Instant Transmissions and Afterimages to blindside him, scoring dozens of blows in that time. In a fit of rage, the younger fighter unleashed a barrage of etherion in all directions, forcing the other Saiyans to throw up shields in order to protect everyone else watching.
It didn't hurt Goku, but it did dispel his hollow clones and force him to block the energy blasts. Seeing him temporarily immobilized, Gorun conjured a huge, golden circle, and let out another savage roar as he charged his opponent, the magic circle trailing close behind him. "Dragon FIST!" The circle transformed into a giant dragon of a matching color that body-slammed Goku into a mountain, burying both Saiyans in tons of rubble.
"Jeez, even for a Fairy Tail wizard, this going overboard!" Lucy shouted to be heard above the noise.
Not a second later, both men were back up in the air, trading blows faster than even most of the other Saiyans could track. Turning to Azura, Yukino asked, "Which one is winning?"
"I'm not sure," the other girl answered, her eyes narrowed as she tried to keep up with the pacing of the furious battle. "Grandpa Kakarot, I think."
"He hasn't even gone Super Saiyan, though!" Cana protested. "How's he keeping up with Gorun's best Saiyan Soul?"
"Kakarot has had decades to develop his fighting prowess in all of his forms," Vegeta answered the brusquely, his eyes never leaving the scene of battle. "Even handicapped, there are very few warriors that could keep pace with him."
Gorun wheezed as the air was driven from his lungs by Goku's elbow, but he managed to turn the strike to his advantage, gripping the older man's forearm and using it to hurl him toward the earth with enough force to level Magnolia. His feral eyes narrowed as he saw his ancestor's hand move toward his forehead, a sure sign that he was about to teleport, so he immediately prepared to strike above himself instead of pressing the current line of attack.
"Double…" he growled as Goku vanished from his line of sight, only to reappear above his opponent. There was surprise on his face as he stared into Gorun's violet eyes, which sparkled with malice. "SUNDAY!" The red lasers blasted Goku at nearly point-blank range, sending him tumbling up into the stratosphere, where he was finally able to steady himself, though he was now covered in laser burns and bruises.
"Nice work, Gorun!" he laughed again as he put his hands at his side. "But I think it's time we find out just how strong you really are!"
The hairy Saiyan down below him widened his eyes as he felt an unbelievable amount of energy gathering above him, but he narrowed them again as he mirrored his opponent's stance. I'll beat him! he swore, all caution and inhibitions thrown to the wind. I'll defeat him and escape from the shadow that I've been living in since the day I was born!
"Ka…" Goku began, blue light pooling between his hands.
"Me…" Gorun called back, crimson light gathering at his command.
"Ha…!" The thin air around Goku began to swirl, rustling his clothes as he summoned even more power.
"Me…!" The ground below Gorun shook, loose rubble drifting upwards, drowning out the shouts of his friends to call it off, before they did something irreparable to the planet.
"HAAAAAA!" Blue and red lasers flew forth from the hands of their conjurers, colliding between the two of them and banishing all clouds from their presence for hundreds of miles.
"Are they crazy?!" Lucy shrieked. "If Gorun loses, the planet is toast!" The energy beams were colossal, each one big enough to swallow the entire Crocus Coliseum, to say nothing of what the potential explosions would do.
"We'll step in if it comes to that," Goken assured her, his wife nodding grimly by his side. "Believe it or not, we've dealt with way bigger blasts than this before."
"Amazing," Natsu was saying, seemingly entranced by the spectacle before them. "Growin' up, I always wanted to surpass my old man. Then it was Erza, and Laxus, and Gildarts."
"What're you getting at?" Gray asked him while they all tried to maintain their balance amid the violent shockwaves.
"I'm sayin' that when Gorun showed up, it opened my eyes to levels of power that I never even dreamed existed," Natsu replied, his eyes still fixed on his friend. "And the mountaintop just seems to keep gettin' further and further away." The others all looked askance at him, surprised by the concise wording that expressed his thoughts in that moment.
Then he grinned toothily and slammed his fist into his palm as he said, "I can't wait to catch up to Gorun! Then I'll take down the old guy after that!"
"Hmph!" Vegeta scoffed. "Try all your life; a human could never stand up to a Saiyan like Kakarot or myself."
"We ain't regular humans, guy," Gray said with a smirk as he stood next to Natsu. "We're Fairy Tail wizards. That means that we don't give up until our goal is realized, so if Natsu wants to become stronger than even you, I wouldn't be so quick to laugh it off. He has a habit of surprising people like you."
To that, Vegeta merely scoffed again, while all of the Saiyans did their best to hide their smiles.
Gorun had initially hoped that his raw power would be enough to overcome Goku's Kamehameha, but he could feel that his ancestor's energy wave was slowly getting closer to him, despite his best efforts. No! he growled within his mind.
Just as his aching arms were ready to give in, he felt a steady flood of energy begin to seep into his limbs from multiple directions- unseen, but potent all the same. As new power coursed through his body, his beam attack began to force Goku's away from him, and he swiftly recognized the source of his newfound strength.
He could feel Romeo's fiery spirit, Yukino's dazzling light, Kinana's loving care, and perhaps most surprising, Azura's cool resolve, all pouring into him, sustaining him beyond his body's limitations. More than the power, though, it was the very fact that they would stand with him against one of the strongest Saiyan Warriors to ever exist that hardened his resolve into steel.
With a guttural sound, he screamed out, "I won't lose to YOU!"
Armed with the power given to him by his team, Gorun's red Kamehameha swiftly obliterated Goku's blue energy wave, and overwhelmed the older Saiyan, swallowing him up in the crimson light as he let out a shout of surprise that was quickly engulfed by a titanic explosion. However, the young man's victory was somewhat tainted by the fact that the effort proved to be too much for even his altered body, and he immediately fainted the moment that the explosion occurred, sending him falling toward the earth.
All of the Fairy Tail wizards turned to look at Azura, who frowned and said, "What? I'm not catching him."
"At the speed he's falling, not even Happy and Pantherlily could get him!" Gray shouted as he pointed up at his friend. "Go save your cousin!"
"He'll survive," she smirked. "We may have to postpone the wedding on account of his injuries, though."
"Genora…" Kinana said in a warning tone.
"Calm down," Lettis said as she laid a hand on her shoulder. "I'll get him." Placing her fingers on her head, she vanished, only to reappear a second later with an unconscious Gorun. Grinning at the surprised wizards, she asked, "What? Goku and Vegeta didn't teach him everything, you know."
"How is he?" Romeo asked worriedly, concerned by the fact that his friend was breathing shallowly, and was completely limp in his mother's arms.
"I got this," Trunks said as he moved forward, a familiar item in hand. It took a moment, but eventually the senzu bean went down, and Gorun was instantly back on his feet, his nerves keyed up and ready to send him back into the fight.
"Takeov-!"
Smack!
Everyone else cringed as Lettis smacked her son on the head, saying, "Cool it, Gorun! Fight's over."
"It is?" he asked, clearly disoriented by his surroundings. "What happened?"
"You were lucky, Kaidon," Vegeta said as he strode up to his descendant until they were within arm's reach of each other. "You've won this match, so I see no reason to hold the wedding proceedings."
"Wait, where is Dad?" Goten asked as he peered up at the sky. "Don't tell me he's actually unconscious up there."
"If he got blasted into space, he wouldn't be able to breathe," Trunks said as he paled rapidly. "Uh oh."
"Save your worrying," Vegeta scolded his son. "It'll be a cold day in hell before someone other than me kills that clown."
As if waiting for those words, Goku popped into their midst, looking winded and scuffed, but otherwise happy. "Yo!" he said with a large grin. "That was awesome, Gorun! You really have gotten a lot stronger since you left!"
"I've had to," Gorun replied quietly, unsettled by the fact that- even pushing himself to break new limits- he had only been able to drive Goku off for a few seconds.
"And you'll continue to do so," Vegeta told him sternly. "Even if you've abandoned the path set for you in the Time Patrol, you are a Saiyan Warrior. There is nothing to do but grow your skills, to protect that which you hold dear. Anything less would make you worthless, even if you had all the power in the multiverse at your disposal."
Gorun blinked at him a few times before he dared to ask, "So… does that make me not entirely worthless?"
"I'm not dignifying that with an answer," Vegeta said as he shouldered his way out of the gathering. "All I know is that you better be on time for your wedding, Kaidon, or you'll regret making me come all the way out here." As he left, Gorun smiled fiercely at his back, knowing full well that there would be a matching expression on the prince's face.
The next day during the rehearsal dinner, Gorun and his family continued their visitations in the guild hall. Cana made good on her promise to take Goten out to see Magnolia, but everyone else stayed behind to spend time with the young saiyan and his wife-to-be. Soon after the food had been passed out, Bulma and Chronoa arrived in town, with the small kai happy to see her grandson and his friends again.
"Thanks for arranging this," he told her once she had gotten around to properly introducing herself to more of the wizards. "I really appreciate it."
"No problem," she said with a cheery smile as she looked up at him. "But there's actually two more guests that I thought you'd appreciate having here today."
"Who?" he asked with a puzzled look as he glanced around the room. As far as he could tell, all of his close relatives were present, and there weren't any Time Patrollers that he could think of that he would have invited, given the chance. He had a cousin that he got on well with, but last he'd heard, Edam was on a long-term deep cover mission, so he doubted it was him.
"I was almost worried that we'd have to put a number on our arms to tell us apart, but I think our outfits will do the trick," said a familiar voice from behind Gorun, leading him to turn around with a surprised smile on his face.
Lucy grinned at him with her arms crossed as she stood next to Levy, both of them dressed in the casual uniform of the Time Patrol. The blond wizard looked a lot better than the last time Gorun had seen her, though her voice was still a little bit on the weaker side- most likely an aftereffect of all the physical and psychological trauma she'd endured in the future that no longer was. Her companion looked exactly like the Levy that Gorun knew, save for a very large scar striped across her forehead.
"It's good to see you," the young man said as he stepped toward them, Chronoa taking her leave at this point. "Both of you."
"Thanks," Lucy replied as she exchanged a brief hug with her fellow guild mate.
As she let him go, Gorun turned to Levy and said, "I know we haven't actually met, but I'm glad to have you here, all the same."
"I'm glad to be here," Levy said as she surprised him with another hug as soon as he was free of Lucy's embrace. "Lu told me about how hard you fought to save our world- thanks for that."
"It was my genuine pleasure," Gorun replied with a chuckle as she stepped back. "Besides, it was really because of you two that we were able to win the day, so thank you." Turning back to Lucy, he asked, "How long have you been in the Time Patrol now?"
"About two years," Lucy answered swiftly. "I'm a low-danger-level field agent, but I've done well enough that the Supreme Kai of Time lets me see Fairy Tail's scroll. Although, she was pretty careful not to let me see anything past today."
"Makes sense," he nodded in understanding. "Even if you did know anything about our future, it's best if we discover it ourselves." He felt a little guilty about lying to them, even by omission, but he wasn't about to point out that he had a daughter from the future of an already-altered timeline. There was no real way for him to tell how many deviations from the original flow of time that his grandmother would allow, so he would keep that under wraps for now.
He was about to ask Levy about her own career in the Time Patrol, but he was interrupted by the sound of someone tapping on the microphone lachryma set up on the main stage, and asking, "Hello? Is this thing working?" When everyone turned to see Goken on the elevated platform, he grinned and said, "Ah, great. Now that I have your attention, I'd like to say a few words."
Oh no, Gorun thought as he felt the blood drain from his face, even as Kinana walked up to him with a question on her brow. What's he doing?
To his relief, his father said, "I'm not great with public speaking, so I'll keep this brief." Taking a moment to clear his throat, he then said, "It's been a while since I've seen my son as happy as he is with all of you, especially with his beautiful fiancée." Kinana reddened as Gorun smiled and draped an arm around her in response to his father's words. Grinning at them both, Goken went on to say, "As any parent would be, I'm happy to see my son content, and proud of all that he's managed to accomplish while away from us. I also know that your guild had a large hand in how he turned out, so thank you for keeping him on a good path, Fairy Tail. And Kinana, I'll thank you in advance for looking out for that knucklehead. I know you'll do great."
With that, he leaped nimbly off the stage while Gorun planted a kiss on Kinana's head, and the other guild members applauded his father.
"Here's to the bride and groom!" Gray shouted as he raised a mug over his head with a large grin directed at his friend.
"Gray, that part isn't until tomorrow!" Mira reminded him. "Also, pants!"
"Who's got time for that?!" he challenged her.
"Yeah!" Erza shouted, surprising all of her guild mates, until they saw the mostly-empty bottle of wine in her armored grasp, causing many of them to start sweating bullets. She swiftly quaffed the remainder of the red liquid and then slurred, "Okay! Let's spin the bottle!"
"Not at my wedding, you don't!" Gorun shouted as he made to stop the drunken wizard.
"Ah, crap!" Natsu cried out. "Who let her near the booze?! Code red emergency!"
"What's going on?" Lettis asked Kinana, who had put her face in her hands with a soft groan.
"Erza is one of our strongest wizards, but she can't hold her liquor," the purplette mumbled as the sounds of a scuffle began to come from Erza's direction. "And she's a very demanding drunk."
"Gray, you and Lucy are the night's exhibitionists!" the scarlet-haired woman was now shouting as she held up a big wad of cash. "Get to dancing!"
"That's a big fat NO!" both wizards shouted back.
"Why'd she have that on her?!" Gorun added.
"Is it always like this?" Trunks asked Kinana.
"It's not always this particular brand of insanity, but you're certain to find something wacky happening in Fairy Tail on any given day," the poor girl sighed.
"Still, it doesn't seem as though it would get boring," Lettis giggled.
"That's a word for it."
Off to the side, Vegeta could be seen scowling next to Goku, who was tearing through a pot roast with great gusto. "I can't believe we're letting him marry into this nonsense," he grumbled sourly. "To think that a Prince of the Saiyans would entangle himself in this manner of riffraff…"
"Hey, you married Bulma, and she's not really princess material," Goku pointed out, causing his rival to scowl even heavier. "Plus, you and I are friends, right?"
"You're using that term a little liberally, Kakarot," he growled.
"Aw, come on, Vegeta," the other saiyan urged him. "You wouldn't have set the fight up so that he could win if you didn't want him to be here."
"That was all you," Vegeta growled. "I know you let him win, you soft-hearted fool."
To that, Goku grinned sheepishly before saying, "Yeah, but I know I'm not the only one that felt his friends giving him energy during our fight." When all Vegeta did was remain silent, his rival added, "I mean, to be fair, my Spirit Bomb needs other people to work, so I guess it's not really cheating, is it?"
"Hmph."
The next morning, in the hour which the sun begins to creep above the horizon, Gorun bolted upright from his bed with a huge on his face. His heart was pounding, and he could feel a ridiculous surge of adrenaline coursing through his body, almost as if he were preparing to fight Acnologia again.
As he threw open his closet to find his tuxedo, he thought with an excited buzz, I'm getting married today.
Gorun: Dude! You cut us off before the good part!
Mataras: Hey, given everything that happened in this chapter, I felt like it was an appropriate place to stop.
Azura: You mean I have to deal with this mushy crap for another chapter? Give me a break, I didn't even get to fight anybody!
Mataras: That'll change next chapter, promise.
Azura: How? Are we skipping the wedding?
Mataras: Absolutely not.
Gorun: Thank Kami.
Mataras: That said, it wouldn't be a Fairy Tail party if there wasn't some level of violence, especially if you throw Saiyans in the mix.
Azura: True... So, who do I get to fight? Vegeta? Trunks? I'd even settle for Goten.
Gorun: That's harsh.
Mataras: To be announced. Next time- From Now On
Gorun: Coming July, 2020!
Next time on Saiyan Tail...
The light of the Time Ring faded as Gorun found himself standing in what looked like the Fairy Tail library. However, he did not recognize any of the books that stacked the shelves, nor was the furniture quite the way that he remembered. And unlike the guild hall, where there was usually two or three wizards in the room at any given time, there was a solitary figure sitting at one table, a timing lachryma sitting in front of him, the red numbers counting down in manner similar to the Face bombs.
"Hello, Gorun," the person said without looking around. "Come to witness the end?"
"Can't you remember?" the Saiyan replied. "Or at least guess?"
"You'd be surprised at how little you remember when you've lived this long," the man replied as he stood up and slowly turned around. "But sure, I can guess."
Time Patrol Special
"Hey, Chronoa?" Trunks asked as he walked toward the pink kai, who was peering intensely at a large scroll on her desk. "I found something that I think you need to look at."
"What's up?" she asked him as she rolled up the parchment and set it to the side. As she turned to look at him, she saw that he was holding another scroll, this one leaking dark energy. "Which timeline?"
"...Ours'." Chronoa looked up at her husband with alarm before she took the scroll and unraveled it, her practiced eyes quickly finding the source of the problem, and what the outcome could be if it was left unattended.
"This is bad," she murmured. "I'll correct this one myself, but I'll need you and Lettis to keep an eye out for these kinds of disturbances. If the Time Breakers are attempting to interfere with the lives of the people from Conton again, we could have another catastrophe on our hands."
"But why him?" Trunks wondered as the Supreme Kai of Time laid the scroll on the table. "He's not even in the corp. anymore."
"I know, and that's what puzzles me," the pink woman answered with a frown as she peered at the scroll a little harder. "We need to leave soon, so I'll seal this scroll for now and deal with it when we get back. Maybe if I watch how it plays out more in-depth, then I'll be able to understand Fu's motives a little better."
"I just hope we can put a stop to him before he makes a habit of this," Trunks sighed as he watched the little Kai place a powerful enchantment on the warped timeline. "If he keeps going after Gorun, he may not end up with his happily ever after."
"Not on my watch."
Coming soon... What if Gorun had never left the Time Patrol?
