It was the beginning of September. Summer rolled out of the view and was replaced by the sweet and beautiful nature life, Autumn.
Some may considered to be just a normal season of falling brownish-orange leaves sprinkling the air. But for the children, it's a whole new type of playground they found themselves into.
With this season rolling in this month, a purple haired boy was seen walking inside the house with his hands in his pockets with the limited free time he has before resuming his detective work.
It had been a solid 3 months ever since Fang started adjusting his new life inside the house along with his new friends he made along the way. It is amazing how much time progressed that he started to grow more friendly towards the younger children and the kids his age. His trust and their trust in him grew exponentially under that short time. For the children, they were really glad that they have seen a new side of Fang they would see everyday and it was all thanks to both the platinum and blonde haired kids.
For something new that happened, some stuff will remain the same for some people Fang had befriended.
Emma continues to pester him sometimes when she forces him to play with the children. He gets along well with Norman and often held conversations talking about topics that interested the other. Whenever he wanted to have a quiet time with someone, Ray is his person to ever be with considering he had his nose in the book in frequent times.
He also spent much time with his newfound sister-figure, Conny. There is a strange feeling welling up inside of him that he couldn't quite describe it. If he had to guess, it would be the feeling of wanting to have a little sibling that cares for you and you caring them back. It's almost the same as he did with his big brother back when they were still very young.
Then the answer suddenly clicked in him.
Sibling love.
They had fun, mostly Conny of her initiating the funnest parts. Fang didn't mind her antics as long as she is having the time of her life with her new big brother-figure. A surprising fact he heard from her is that Conny is also closer with Don, which she also sees him as her big brother before Fang.
He didn't knew why, but he felt some feeling of jealousy whenever Don was near Conny. There were instances whenever Conny talked about with her and Don that Fang felt... obligated to steer Conny away from Don. The latter seemed to have noticed and asked what was wrong.
And things escalated there where Fang was having a long chat with Don of who gets to spend more time with the blonde girl. Don sweatdropped because he had never expected the boy to feel jealous before. It earned the tanned boy a laugh while the bespectacled boy fumed for taking this too lightly. The ones who watched the whole thing also laughed at this hilarious scene.
It shows how he is very attached he is growing towards Conny as months had passed. It just felt like he wanted to stay with her, protect her and be there for her. The children felt pleased with this knowing Fang had changed compared to how he was before.
If anything had happened to Conny, Fang swore that he will make them pay.
Fang frowned from that thought then chuckled from his next thought. It made him into like Kaizo, his big brother, back when Kaizo was younger. He'd often care and love his brother and always be there to protect him at all costs. How it all changed when their planet was being attacked by that very same red-skinned alien he was battling.
It was a grim memory he witnessed. Kaizo became a legendary space rebel, with a rebellion of his own as he sought to rescue and save Power Spheras from across the galaxy. With no time he had for Fang, he grew really distant and cold towards his younger brother. That event sure did changed him a lot when they were still kids.
It's not that Fang hated Kaizo. He understood his big brother's intentions for being like this. He knew deep down inside that Kaizo is still the lovable big brother Fang knew. He just doesn't show it sometimes and it was shown behind his whole facade if Fang paid attention to his actions.
"I wonder what he's doing right now?" He mused. "Probably around the galaxy, I guess."
A high-pitched voice had broken him out of his thoughts. He faced towards the source and found it to be his little sister-figure.
"Pang! Pang!" Conny called. The mentioned boy walked towards the young girl and ruffled her hair.
"What is it, you little squirt?" Fang said. He's already used to her calling him by his pet name. The other children on the hand, would often say that impishly. Something that only ticked him off but knew it was just for fun.
"I made something for you!"
Now that made him curious. He watched as Conny had her hands behind her back. She couldn't wait to show him something that she had been working on with the others.
"I can't reach you, Pang. Will you please lower yourself for me?"
The latter raised an eyebrow. What is she trying to show him? Hearing her request, he squat down to only one knee in front of her and lowered his head just like she asked.
Before he can ask what it is for, he felt something soft surrounding his head.
"Ta-da!" She cheered and brought a hand-held mirror with her. She gave the mirror for Fang to take. As he took the mirror from her, he then gasped on the unexpected thing surrounding on his head.
It was a flower crown. Various flowers in colorful petals meshed and adjoined with the others which gave it a symmetrical and pleasant look to the naked eye. It was even properly fitting his hair like a crown.
"Do you like it? Yvette and I made a lot and gave some to the others! I know today is Autumn and there weren't a lot of flowers nearby but we have been growing some flowers back in my room! Isn't it really pretty?" Conny explained with a wide smile.
"Well, I don't like it." He frowned.
Conny gasped. What...? Why...? She made all this trouble to make this for him and he didn't like it...? She felt tears releasing her eyes.
But no sob came out before she felt arms wrapping around her.
"In fact, I love it. Thanks Conny!"
He isn't a completely emotionless person. He is still a young boy who had so much to live for. He swore to himself back when he was still inside the black hole. He even kept his word to be with everyone as much as he can. Otherwise, he'll get an earful from a certain orange antenna haired girl.
Fang continues to rub circles around her back and apologized to her for messing around his words like that. Giggles continue to run through the girl's mouth from being close with her big brother. A snicker was heard and it didn't come from the little girl herself.
"Nice crown you're wearing, Pang. I guess Conny would want to transform you into Emma since you two looked similar in terms of appearance."
The raven haired boy entered the scene with a hand on his hip and with his usual smug look on his face. Conny laughed because of what he said was partly true. The two really look the same.
"You're lucky that I'm even friends with you in the first place. Otherwise, I would've socked this crown on your face." Fang retorted.
"If you do that, you'll waste the precious gift Conny gave to you." He replied back with a reminder to go along with.
"Oh." Fang looked back towards Conny with an apologetic expression. "I'm sorry. I wasn't gonna do that to Ray anyways."
Conny is either a forgiving young girl, or that she easily forgives her big brother thanks to her close kinship with him. She hugged Fang one more time before looking at him towards his crimson eyes with a radiating smile.
Fang knew he didn't deserve this but chose to accept her kind look she's giving him.
Ray watched from the side. As much as he didn't want to disturb this heart-felt moment with the two, there are matters he and Fang need to discuss. Clearing his throat, Ray addressed the purple haired boy.
"Fang, we need to talk."
Fang stared at the raven haired boy. That look tells him that they should be discussing of utmost importance. Conny tugged on Fang's shirt with a curious look on her face.
"Conny. Is it alright if I borrow Pang for a while? I promise it won't take long." Ray smiled towards the blonde and asked. Fang glared at him for ever using his pet name not once but twice now in one day.
"Okay!" Conny obliged with Ray's question and went on to be with her other friends not before turning around and asking Fang if he will play with her again, to which he answered with a nod.
"Follow me." Ray guided Fang to somewhere private. Ray was in the front while leading a quiet Fang to their destined meeting place, which happened to be where Ray is staying. It was a bedroom like all the other bedrooms the children were sleeping on. Ray sat on his own bed with his leg placed on his other leg in a bent position.
"Let's talk in regards of that thing you've been trying to find these past few months." Ray started. He's ready to tell him what he has on his mind.
That already caught the other's full attention. Although he should be the one opening up the topic of his missing device. Though Ray beat him to it.
"How does it goes with the search? Did you guys already have any leads on where it could be?" Fang leaned to a nearby tabletop next to Ray's bed. He knew that presenting their points that the others have first will help clear and understand the mysterious disappearance of his watch.
"Well, I told Emma and Norman to help you search for it in the forest. So far, they came up to me with nothing. I also asked Don, Gilda and Anna in help with our search inside the house. Though it ended in the same result as Emma and Norman's." Ray stated.
"Have you asked the other children to help as well?" Fang crossed his arms.
"Well I did, and they found nothing. I also asked some of them to search in the infirmary to where you were sleeping last time. We even tried going in to Mama's office but she caught us trying to enter there and we were told not to go in there without her. I objected to it but the other kids seemed to agreed with her. Without anyone to back me up, I had no choice but to follow her warning."
"Damn it." Fang grits his teeth. "We'll just keep trying. I won't stop until I finally found it."
Ray gave him a vacant stare before asking. "I don't understand why you are willing to ask anyone for help just to find a watch. It is either around in this house or outside for all I know, and who knows when it was there for a long time. It might've been broken or something. Is the watch really that important to you? There are other things that is a good substitute for--"
He was stopped when a glare was sent to his way. Crimson eyes were glowing with anger that sent shivers down Ray's spine. He didn't knew that Fang possessed this kind of intimidation against someone before. It had been a while since he had his eyes widen from the boy in front of him.
And that's when Ray realized his words that escaped his lips. He had known Fang for a while now and that he is just like Ray with a clear goal in mind, which is something more relevant than just finding a watch of all things. He hadn't reconsider the importance of it.
Did he just push his buttons a little too much?
Instead of heeding him a warning or initiating another argument, the other just merely sighed.
"It's more than just an important device. And I'm certain that it is not broken. I don't really believe in that. I just had a feeling it is around here in this house, somewhere kept hidden."
Fang looked at Ray dead in the eyes with his arms crossed.
"Also, that watch is very important to me. Someone really close to me gave it to me. I very much owe it to them for it. Without it, there wouldn't be anything that will make me remind me of them. If I'm going to leave here someday, then I'll leave with my watch back on my wrist. I'll find it no matter what!"
There was clear firmness in his voice as he said that. That is some determination if he ever saw one. Ray also felt a little bad for the bespectacled boy. Just that object alone was enough to make him remind of them, whoever he referenced to. His friends? His family?
There was a short silence after that whole sentiment. It's best that Ray will have to shift it back to the whole searching topic. He didn't want Fang to drag his sentimentality far longer.
"Had you asked Mama to help find it for you? There is a better chance for you finding it faster this way." Ray suggested.
The other shook his head. "No matter how many times I've asked, she claims that she never even saw it. But I know it is around here somewhere and she wasn't even willing to tell me where for some reason."
That just adds a load of thoughts regarding the caretaker of Grace Field House. Fang knew she was lying. She couldn't look at him in the eyes when she claims that she never saw the watch somewhere. There were instances that she was keeping an eye on him wherever Fang was happened to pass by her or when Fang was doing his daily household chores inside of the house. He even caught her staring at him from behind a wall or a tree whenever Fang and the children were playing outside.
Somewhere along those creeps him out by how much of a stalker Mama Isabella can be sometimes.
"I see." Ray nodded. "If you want to, I can try and talk to her about where it is. Mama is more inclined to listen to me."
Fang wondered about that. Ray's relationship with Isabella is kind of... strange sometimes. Sometimes they couldn't make eye contact when they talk. He knew Ray wasn't like that when talking to someone like that excluding the times when he talked to the children his age and below 10.
Is this how he talks to an adult? Or unless Ray was just being himself and that Fang is overthinking this.
"Alright." Fang agreed with it. He should leave this to the raven haired boy with interrogating Isabella while he goes to exploring more and uncovering the rest of the house. Like a curious child he is, there might be secret passages around here that neither he nor the other children hadn't discover yet.
Actually, a thought occurred to him.
"You said Mama was around to notice you and the others trying to sneak your way inside her office, right?"
Ray nodded. He knew where this is going.
"Then that must be it! It's gotta be in there somewhere!"
If what Ray said was true, then his watch must be placed inside of her office. From what he heard from Ray, Isabella was too dismissive from letting her beloved children entering inside of her office without her permission.
"That's a long stretch to know that it could be in there, Fang. Are you absolutely sure about it? What if we knew that it would be there was wrong?" Ray asked. There is a possibility that it was moved somewhere and making them assume that it would be in her office.
"I'm fairly positive it is there. Plus, her office is the only place I haven't looked in to. We just gotta think of a way to get inside without her seeing us." Fang spoke with confidence.
"Hold on a second there, Fang." Ray stopped him before he can get his hopes up. "Let me have a word with Mama first before we can move on with your conclusion of your watch being in the office. If she doesn't say anything or tells a lie again, I'll let you know the moment something was up with her."
Fang nodded. This is going smoothly. They finally had a lead to where it is now thanks to Ray's testimony. Fang felt a little relieved now that he is on right track on his investigation. Perhaps there is still a chance in finally getting it back.
Pessimistic thoughts soon entered his mind. Thinking back on Ray's statement, he wasn't sure if the watch was still functional or working at all. What if it got damaged from the red-skinned alien's gigantic hammer? What if he overused his powers into trying to rescue BoBoiBoy in the heat of the moment? He didn't thought of his power watch being absolutely broken and that he is doing all of this time and effort just for nothing.
If this thought actually came up true, then... what was he doing this all for...? He went on a wild goose chase... all to find it broken and dysfunctional...
Suddenly, a hand was placed on his shoulder. He realized he isn't alone thinking about this.
"It's alright, Fang." There is Ray trying to comfort Fang in times like this one. He noticed his distress and he was just trying to lighten it up for him.
"Just trust me. We'll help find it for you. Don't you even worry about a thing. I can't have a friend who continues to mope again like last time, can I? Chin up for me, will you?"
A simple smile from the raven haired boy is the right medicine in curing his distraught moment. Fang returned the kind gesture with his own. It sure is good to have a friend like Ray at his side. He didn't regret being friends with him.
With their conversation finished, Fang took his leave and starts to go outside. Conny might be waiting for him and he wouldn't want to keep his little sister-figure to wait any longer than he should have. Ray, having finished comforting the bespectacled boy, was still in his bed with a hand under his chin in deep thinking.
He was intrigued by the device Fang always talked about whenever he asked the raven haired boy. Just what is in that device that he was holding? Is it a lead to go outside of the walls surrounding Grace Field
Maybe it is.
Besides, how was Fang, a normal boy that is the same age as himself, be able to come to Grace Field with no number tattoo on the side of neck? Normally, children no older than a year old are the current ones only arriving to Grace Field and they automatically had their number tattoos engraved on their necks. Fang was an exception, which was a bizarre revelation to Ray. He wasn't sure if the others noticed but it seemed like he is the only one who eyed this missing detail.
If Fang really was from the outside, then there is still hope that there might be other children from beyond the walls. He should look this further in his little theory of how he arrived here on unknown means.
Unbeknownst for Ray, it wasn't really the case at all. In reality, it was Fate that brought Fang here into this situation.
Hi guys! I'm really sorry for the delay! I wasn't motivated enough to write but now I finally returned with another chapter!
I know it is short so think of it as a little appetizer before we get to the main course, which is the next chapter.
I assure you all I'm gonna be fairly active writing this time! Don't worry! I have no school for this week, which is the best news for me.
Thanks for reading! See you next chapter!
