Chapter 5
The day had ended at St Joseph's and the students were all eager to start the weekend, four of the five rangers were meeting up near the school entrance. "Did you guys hear?" asked Melody excitedly "James Birthday is tomorrow". "Really" said Jack confused "how come were only hearings this now?". "You know how he is" said Leo with a shrug "he's a lone wolf". "I think you mean a lone ape" said Jessie jokingly earning laughs from the rest of the rangers. "What are you guys laughing at?" asked James coming over with his bag over his shoulder. "Hey birthday boy" said Jack sliding over. "Oh you guys heard" said James giving Melody a look who responded with a smile. "So what's the plan for tomorrow" said Jessie "they're going to be a party?". "Nah just me, mom and my sister Trini having a dinner together" said James with a shrug "It's a kind of a family thing, but Mom always makes way too much". "Well I insist that us five all do something together to celebrate anyway" said Melody "what do you want do go to the movies, get ice cream, go to the amusement park come on what?". "Well I guess some Ice cream wouldn't hurt" said James as they left the school. At the dark fortress Maleficent had summoned Gaston and Dr Facilier "I want a new plan to destroy the rangers within the hour" she demanded. "I have one right now" said Gaston stepping forward. "Really" said Facilier giving him a look. "Yes really" said Gaston giving the Voodoo doctor his own look before turning back to Maleficent. "The problem with Honest John and Prince John was that they had no muscle so Confox and Goldlord were obviously doomed to fail" he said taking out his sword and used its jewel to summon a dark essence "we need a warrior to crush the rangers someone who knows how to fight and likes doing it and this essence holds the spirit of the perfect one to do just that someone one of the most powerful old heroes had trouble stopping". Maleficent blasted the essence with her staff and from the essence a monster resembling a murderous ape with pitch black war armour and a serrated spear in its paw. "I give your Preda-ape" Gaston declared "with the essence of the mighty Tublat powering him the Rangers the black one especially will be no match for him" Gaston declared as Maleficent smiled evilly. The Rangers meanwhile where getting ice cream and were enjoying it at the park. "So you really don't do much on your birthday?" asked Leo looking at James with a confused expression mixed with concern. "Nah never really been one for anything big I prefer some simple with my family" said James turning back to his rocky road "never really had much friends anyway". Suddenly they heard the sound of screaming and turned to see people running in fear as Preda-ape tore a huge tree from the ground and hurled it in the air. "We gotta stop him" said Leo "its Morphin time". "Ready the rangers yelled "Disney Power, Ranger Power ha" they yelled turning into their ranger forms. "Hey King Kong" said Jack running over to the monster "I think your lost Skull Islands that way" he yelled jumping up to deliver a kick only for Preda-ape to grab his leg and hurl him away. "Hyah" said James running at him with his sword only for Preda-ape to dodge and knock him away. "Fire" said Jessie and Melody shooting blasts at Preda-ape with their weapons only for the ape to leap into the air and knock them back with his arms. "Get away from them" said James running at the beast and began sending a flurry of punches his way only for Preda-ape to catch his fist and bring him close. "Hairless runt" said Preda-ape in low menacing tone "Tarzan couldn't stop me on his own what hope do you have" and threw him away before grabbing the other Rangers and leapt away. "No" said James weakly as he demorphed. At her fortress Maleficent was pleased "your creature is doing well Gaston very well indeed" she said pleasantly . "Why pick brains, when you can have muscle" said Gaston arrogantly. "He still missed one" Facilier pointed out sourly. James headed to Yen Sid's tower and informed the old wizard what had happened. "That thing knew Tarzan" said James "who is he, what is he?". Yen Sid pointed to the mirror which showed Tarzan battling a huge Gorilla with Black fur. "He is or rather was Tublat an old rival of Tarzan's who sought to take over the ape family Tarzan protected" Yen Sid explained. "Why did Tarzan even choose me" said James sitting down "I'm no leader, protector or anything". "James why do you choose to stand on your own so much?" Yen Sid asked putting a hand on the boys shoulder. James signed before answering "my dad took off when I was a kid leaving me, my mom and sister on our own, I had to grow up quickly to help my mom out and keep Trini safe" he admitted with a sign "I never really had any time to make friends and I feel if I do It'll distract me from my responsibilities at home". Yen Sid gave the black ranger a knowing smile before bringing him back to the mirror, it showed Tarzan protecting his Gorilla family and spending time with the woman he loved and her father and a friendly…if not slightly dim…elephant. "Tarzan had many responsibilities not only to his ape family, he brought others into it human or animal" Yen Sid explained "he believed in a philosophy very rare to many in any world: two world one family". James stared at the mirror in wonder and turned to give Yen Sid a smile. Suddenly the mirror began to glow "Preda-ape has been located" Yen Sid said turning to James whose eyes narrowed "just tell me where". At the forest outside Madison Preda-ape had bound the rangers to trees with rope. "Tell me where the wizard is hiding" he demanded getting in Jessie's face with a snarl "or suffer the consequences". "Ah go eat a banana" said Jessie defiantly. "Raaahhh" Preda-ape roared raising his fist. "Leave them alone" said a voice and he turned to see the black Ranger standing a few feet away. "You don't learn do you" Preda-ape chuckled before lunging at the ranger who dodged. "To slow" said James running through the trees…but not before tossing Leo a pocket knife he had, who began cutting at the rope. James soon found himself in a clearing as Preda-ape caught up to him with his spear ready, the two soon themselves engaged in a spear duel. Preda-ape soon pushed James back against a tree with the tip of his spear aimed at his throat. "You could never defeat me" Preda-ape sneered "you have none of Tarzan's strength". "Your right" said James catching the monster off guard "I'm not a strong as Tarzan, as quick or even as brave but there is one thing eh and I have in common: I have friends" he said as Leo and Jack grabbed Preda-ape from behind and pulled him off their friend where the blue and pink rangers struck him with their weapons. The rangers soon had Preda-ape surrounded. "Not us big fella" said Jessie pointing at James who had his spear ready. Preda-ape let out a growl before lunging at the black ranger. The ape powered Ranger and Monster soon found themselves pushing each back before James finally managed to push the beast back and deliver a fatal blow with his spear. "Curse you" Preda-ape howled before exploding. "All right" Jack cheered as the Rangers crowded around the victorious Black Ranger. "Let's celebrate" said Melody as they demorphed and headed back into town. "Actually there something I'd like to ask you all" said James. The next night James mother Sarah, a woman in her late thirties with brown hair and eyes wearing a pink shirt and black pants was making all her son's favourites for his birthday dinner. "Is dinner almost ready mama?" asked her seven year old daughter Trini, who had brown hair, blue eyes and wore a pink shirt and a pair of blue shorts. "Just about honey" replied her mother "could you call your brother" she asked. "No need" said James coming into the kitchen "I see you made way more than enough again." "Well at least will some left over for tomorrow then" said Sarah carrying food over to the table. At that moment there was a knock on the door and when James opened it the other rangers soon entered each one carrying a birthday present. "Hey guys" said James welcoming them in "this is my sister Trini" he introduced. "Oh my gosh your so cute" Melody said giving the young girl a quick hug. "You invited your friends" said Sarah in shock before a smile crossed her face "what made this happen?" she asked with a smile, happy that her so had begun letting others in. "This is a family event" James explained "and as a wise old man told me: two worlds one family".
