Chapter 5

Bella~~~

"Bella needs to influence Shawn. Get him alone and get him to talk. He is on the verge of discovering the truth and we need to make sure it doesn't happen at any cost." Jasper had faith in me, I could help the family with it. Protect them for once instead of the other way around. It actually meant a lot for him to even say it.

"She is not going to..."

Before Edward could finish his sentence. I cut him off. "I'll do it Jasper."

"No you will not Bella. I don't trust Shawn around you."

"It's not like he will hurt me Edward. I'll ask him out to dinner and find out what he knows. You don't know what Shawn is thinking since you can't read his mind either. This is to protect you and your family from the world finding out the truth. Not to mention exposing Jacob's secret at the same time."

"I forbid it Bella." Edward was overruled because even Carlisle agreed with me and Jasper for once. I could tell by Edward's attitude as he drove me home, it wasn't the end of the subject just yet.

We set in his car in front of the house. Just sat there. He hadn't said a word all the way here. "Are you coming in Edward?"

"Why was Shawn here?"

"What are you talking about?"

"Shawn has been here Bella. I can still smell him."

"No he hasn't been here." For once it would be nice if Edward would take my word on something. When I said no, just take it for the answer.

He went up the stairs into my bedroom. Pulled out my dresser drawer and threw a pair of my panties at me. "You've been with him."

"What the hell are you talking about Edward?"

"Don't lie Bella. Shawn's scent is all over this room and your underwear. I smell Gus too. So how do you explain it?"

"I shouldn't have to explain anything to you. You act like I offered a little double action to them. I said I wasn't with Shawn and I wasn't, either one of them actually."

"It is obvious why you volunteered so quickly to be around Shawn. I don't like being played for a fool." Edward wouldn't listen to anything I had to say on the matter. He had already made up his mind about it. There wasn't even a goodbye when he exited through my window.

This was one time I would let Edward pout it out on his own. He was being so unreasonable and childish with his actions. I would not follow after him begging for him to forgive me for something I hadn't even done. There was enough of that going on lately.

When the phone rang I expect it to be Edward with an apology. But it was Charlie. "Okay. I'll come down to the station. I will drive you home."

Charlie had an ice pack on his head while he laid it on the desk when I arrived. Shawn was throwing Skittles from his cell to get Charlie's attention. When it didn't work, Shawn switched tactics.

"Follow my lead Gus. I think I know how to get Charlie to pay attention to us." Shawn jumped up on the bed and began to dance. "Chief Charlie threw a party in the county jail. Prisoners Shawn and Gus was there and began to wail. Come on drunk guy in cell three, join in with us. Let's rock, everybody, lets rock. Everyone in the cell block was dancing to the jail house rock."

The drunken guy never moved from his cot. But Shawn and Gus were making enough noise for all three of them. Gus racked a tin cup against the steel bars. While Shawn smacked his hands against the concrete wall as they sang.

"I said shut up already." Charlie held his head with hands when he said it too. Well, more so, screamed it at them.

"I think Charlie has a hangover from drinking his lunch Gus." Shawn smirked like he got joy from the fact.

"It could be from you hitting him over the head with a bottle Shawn."

"I don't think that's it at all. Well, hello there." Shawn stuck his face through the bars as far as he could when he noticed me. Then flashed me a pretty smile. "Shawn said to Bella, you sure are the prettiest jailbird I ever did see."

"Thanks, but I'm not the one behind bars because you stole my truck and beat up Charlie."

"And that's where they will be staying for a long time for breaking and entering into my home. Then assaulting a police officer." Charlie fumbled with the aspirin bottle. While he smirked, as if it brought him so joy.

"How many times do I have to tell you Charlie, Gus and I did not break in to your house? The door was open and I was there because I had a vision of Bella being in trouble. You don't have to thank me for trying to save your daughter."

Well that explained a lot. Edward blew up over nothing. But I wouldn't give him the satisfaction of knowing Shawn was there for certain. I would ignore Edward any time he brought it up again. Which I already knew he would.

"You struck me with a foreign object Mr. Spenser." Slowly Charlie made his way to the cells where his prisoners were.

"Technically, Shawn hit you over the head with a wine bottle."

"Thank you for clearing it up Gus. Does that mean you were drinking on duty Charlie? Didn't you take an oath to protect, serve and not be a drunk trying to get laid on the tax payer's dime? Now, I am willing to forget the whole thing and not make a citizen's arrest if you are Chief."

The phone ringing probably saved them from Charlie popping his cork at Shawn. The vein in his forehead was pulsating. It was the way I could tell he was severely pissed off about something.

While I watched Shawn, he had a way about him; almost boyish like. With his looks, actions and the way he smiled so innocently. It was refreshing to be around someone who didn't care what anyone thought, he was just himself.

"A murder on route fifty five. How many victims? I'm on my way. Chief Vic and I will be there." Charlie no more than hung up when the phone rang again. The vampires and wolves had done a great job of staging the murders in perfect sequence. Now to see if Shawn believed it or not.

"Are you sure, just outside of Forks? It will take me a while to get there. The murderers must have gone on a killing spree today." Charlie was in dismay with the news and situation.

Shawn~~~

"Did you hear that Gus? We are getting out of here."

"How do you figure?"

"Just watch and learn my friend." My fingers immediately went to my temple. Once I seen Charlie looking it was time for my performance. Fluttering the eyelids as quickly as I could then stomping across the cell then back again. "Hark, who goes there? Pudding, you can't have any pudding until you eat your meat." I jumped up on the cot behind where Gus was sitting. Then I used the back of his head as a set of bongos I sang Babalu just like Ricky Ricardo at the top of my lungs.

"Is he having a seizure?"

"No, Shawn is in a trance. Don't disturb him Charlie." I wanted to laugh out loud with Gus' explanation.

The palms of my hands went together and I took in some deep cleansing breaths. "I see blood, lots of blood. Bodies strung out and the killer. Yes, I see the killer clearly now."

"Who do you see Mr. Spenser?"

"The channeling was broken. I must see the crime scene to possibly make connection again Chief Vic."

"That will never happen because you won't be leaving this cell anytime soon." I'd seen the familiar body language before. Charlie crossed his arms and stood his ground. Well, it wouldn't last long.

"I know Mr. Spenser's antics are difficult sometimes to work with Charlie, believe me I know firsthand. But he is very effective at helping the department to solve crimes and catch the bad guys. Perhaps if he is willing to help us, maybe we could overlook this little incident just this time?"

If it wasn't for Charlie's attraction to Chief Vic, Gus and I might have had to use another method to get out. I have many tricks left up my sleeve. If you can't dazzle them with your charms, then baffle them with your bullshit I say.

When we were leaving, I was going to ride with Bella. But her damn cop father put a stop to it. "No. Get in the squad car where I can keep an eye on you."

"It's okay Dad. I would like Shawn to ride with me." It didn't shock me at all Bella was under the spell of my charms.

"Did you hear that Gus? Bella wants me to ride with her."

"Yeah, I heard it. I don't know why she would."

"Maybe it's because she finds me strikingly handsome and won't be able to keep her hands off me."

"No, that's not it." I simply ignored Gus. His obvious jealousy from the attention I was getting from her. Anytime a female was involved it was a throw down challenge between us to see which one they found the most attractive.

"I've never been around a psychic before, can you see my future?" It was the question everyone always asked me, it was just normal Bella done it as well. I would give them some tidbit I thought was important and they were usually impressed as hell because of it.

Of course going through her panty drawer helped me out a bunch of knowing a little personal information. "You're conflicted or at least were at some point over Edward and Jacob. You might have chose to be with Edward but right now, I would say you are starting to doubt your decision. I see a trip in your future to a sunny place. Oranges, I can smell the orange trees as you take in the beautiful sun rays. But I don't see Edward there with you. Perhaps there has been an argument between you or he just doesn't like the sun."

A confused look came across Bella's face even though she quickly recovered from it. Then she bit her bottom lip, a tell all sign I was right. One of the things I said to her, struck a nerve. A nerve I would continue to work on. She either was still not sure which guy she wanted to be with yet or she was truly not happy with Edward.

"Would you like to get a cup of coffee with me Shawn after were done with this?"

"Like a date?"

"Like just having coffee."

"Okay Bella, it's a date."

Lassie and Dad beat us there to the crime scene. Lassie already had on the plastic gloves as he examined the area. Dad jotted a bunch of stuff down in a notebook. I would conduct my own investigation.

Empty car without bodies but a lot of blood left behind. Four sets of foot print leading into the woods. Drag marks behind them of a large body and a smaller one. The headlights were still on and the dinging sound from the keys left in the ignition.

"What do you make of it Shawn?"

"I'm still a little mad at you, old man. You left me and Gus in jail to rot. So, I am not going to answer your question."

"You were in there for two hours. I told you kid, your evidence needed to be solid before we accused Charlie of doing anything." He finished up his notes, then flipped it shut and stuck it in his pocket.

"You're the one who gave us the bogus information of him and Chief Vic."

Dad held up one finger. "Was Charlie with Karen?"

"Yes."

Then he held up another one. "Did they have food to eat?"

"Yes."

"Then my info was solid. It's on you kid." Now I had a finger of my own to give him.

"You know what Pops, I don't have time to argue. I have a crime to solve before you do and I don't need your help."

"Are we back to that Shawn?" The old man wouldn't be rolling his eyes at me when I was done here.

Lassie was snapping photos but none of this felt right to me. I just couldn't prove it yet. Deep down I couldn't shake the feeling Bella still had something to do with all of this. She was way to calm for her first time out to crime scene and seeing the blood.

Bella watched all of us intensely, taking mental notes perhaps. Smiled at Dr. Cullen when he arrived. A small nod was exchanged between them. Continued to bit her bottom lip, very sexy bottom lip.

"Dad, I think it's time to call in wild Woody. We need to find a discrepancy in Dr. Cullen's reports."

"I thought you didn't need my help Shawn?" Of all time for the old man to want to argue.

"Will you just do it?"

"How am I going to convince them to bring in another coroner for the job? Besides Woody is so damn creepy and weird."

"Well, if you are not up to the challenge, I'll do it myself." I waved around a five dollar bill.

"You're on kid. Watch and learn from the master."

While Dad worked on how to win the five dollars from me. We drove on to the next crime scene. Bella's cell kept ringing, it was Edward. She never answered it though.

Blood stained the walkway and stairs leading up to the house. The front door showed forced entry. The blood trail leads to the living room. Furniture scattered and upside down demonstrated a struggle. The television still blaring. Then I made my last observation.

"This is the perfect crime, way to perfect."

"What are you talking about Mr. Spenser?" Most of the time Chief Vic listened to me. Even when I bullshitted my way through.

The lace window curtains were where I headed to first. I inhaled them deeply before I twirled around and around with them as we were in a dance together. Next I let them stay on top of my head as I hummed the wedding march.

"Is that all you got kid?"

"I'm just getting warmed up old man."

Walking casually to the corner and slowly examined it. Then demonstrated why I was considered the great psychic. "This murder, never took place and I can prove it."

"I don't believe so Mr. Spenser. It is clearly where two bodies were dragged out of the home after a break in. It is a home invasion for sure."

"I do believe so Mr. Cullen. Lassie do you wanna back me up here?"

"I agree with Spenser on this one."

"Just for once I would appreciate being treated with a little respect...What Lassie?"

"I agree with you. What are the odds of two separate murders scenes with no bodies or witnesses on the same day near this small town? Something strange is going on here."

"Ha, suck it Cullen." I gave the good doctor my best suck it face too.

"Mr. Spenser, that is very unprofessional. I apologize Dr. Cullen." Now Chief Vic was just out of line. She said she was sorry for my behavior, my damn behavior.

"It's alright Chief Vic. I have a few patients who are mentally stressed and they tend to lash out when I make an observation they do not agree with."

"Are you calling me crazy?" It didn't take me long to up in Cullen's face.

My best buddy, Gus. Came to my defense, my rescue, as he shoved me out of the way to get to Cullen. "Hey, nobody calls my friend crazy. Sure Shawn has been locked up a couple of times for a psychiatric evaluation. But that doesn't prove shit."

"Thank you, Gus. I think I can handle it from here my friend. I am about to show you why this murder never took place."

When I center myself in the middle of the room. I jumped up as high as I could on the hardwood floor. Then I pointed to the fire place. Two out of ten pictures fell down from the mantel. I done it again and again for them. Until all but one picture was left standing. "There is no way a struggle and killing happened without those pictures falling down. Unless the killer cleaned up after by setting up the pictures again. But left the rest of the room in shambles."

"I have to agree with Mr. Spenser as was well. Something doesn't add up here. What do you think Charlie?" There were more goggle eyes made between them, yuck. Of course, I was right, I don't even know why the Chief would ever doubt little ole me.

"I think you're right Karen...I mean Chief Vic. We will conduct a complete investigation on it."

Mouthing the words to Cullen. "Suck it." Before I blew him a kiss from across the room.

Bella interrupted my celebrator suck it moment. Her fingers moved swiftly over the key pad of her phone. She didn't even look up at me. "Hey Shawn, I have to go. But can I get a rain check for the coffee?"

"Sure Bella."

She wrote it on the palm of my hand with an ink pen. "Here's my cell number, call me tomorrow. I'll see you later."

"Are you going out with Bella?"

"Yes, I am my friend, she wants me." I couldn't help myself but to gloat a little to Gus.

Dad interrupted my celebrator gloat moment. "I didn't think you had an interest in her? Going out with Bella, is not a good idea. She will cloud your judgment on this case Shawn."

"No she will not. I have this under control Pops. Besides, I will work my gigolo magic on her and she will tell me everything I need to know."

They both laughed in my face. I would turn it around so I could have the last laugh when it was all said and done.

PSYCH~~~TWILIGHT~~~PSYCH~~~TWILIGHT~~~PSYCH~~~TWILIGHT~~~PSYCH~~~TWILIGHT~~~PSYCH~~~TWILIGHT~~~PSYCH~~~TWILIGHT~~~PSYCH~~~TWILIGHT~~~PSYCH~~~TWILIGHT~~~PSYCH~~~

"Tell me again Shawn why we are taking Bella flowers to school?"

"We're shaking things up my friend. Let's see what Edward's response is to it. Besides I think flowers are more personal than calling her up on the phone to make our date."

They were reluctant to give out Bella's class schedule in the office. I guess I looked like a stalker or something. Another skill of mine was the ability to read upside down.

11:45 a.m. lunch

"You can leave them here and we will deliver them to her class if you like."

"Thanks. Let's go Gus." As soon as were out the door. "Bella has lunch in ten minutes. We will stop and say hello before we leave."

It wasn't hard to find the cafeteria. The smell coming from it hadn't changed from all the years I had been out of school. We sat down at a table by the door. We saw them come in with Edward. But Bella wasn't with them.

The small dark haired girl danced into the lunch room. Sort of cute with golden eye color. The boy with her looked sad, crazy hair and golden eye color. Muscle bound man had the same golden eye color. A sensual blonde... nice rack... better ass... walked into the room. Fuck once my eyes made it up to her face, golden eye color.

"I got you now Eddie boy."

"Shawn what the hell are you doing?"

"I am giving Edward the stink eye from across the room. Because he knows that I know what he knows. You know Gus?"

"I don't got a damn clue what you're talking about. But the last time you got that look; I ended up with fifteen stitches and you spent the week in jail. With a slight memory of our drunken night and the goat in the bar." Gus went on muttering to himself about the night we had. Oh hell, it was fun and he knew it.

"You're just being paranoid." After I said it, I slapped Gus on the back.

"Well excuse me. I have a five hundred dollar deductible on my health insurance plan."

"If it makes you feel better; I'll get the stitches this time Gus and you can spend the week in jail."

"That doesn't make me feel any better Shawn."

"I know my friend. But what I have to tell you will. Let's get out of here."

Gus started up the car and wanted to know. "What do you have to tell me Shawn?"

"Is there anything you noticed about all of the Cullen children?"

"No." Poor Gus, he wasn't very observant.

"Supposedly they were all adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Cullen because they can't have children. But yet, they all have the same eyes. It is impossible for them to all have the exact same funky color of brown eyes if they are not related somehow."

"Why would Dr. Cullen lie about that?"

"I don't know Gus. But we need to find out."

The hospital would be a good place to start checking out Dr. Cullen. If he was lying about adopting all those kids, he had a bigger secret he was hiding for a reason.

"How do we get in without being noticed?"

"Follow my lead my friend." Before the door completely shut, I got my hand in it. The locker rooms for the doctors and nurses were a good place to start. A lab coat and a badge was a must to blend in.

"Why do you get to be a doctor and I got to be just a nurse Shawn?"

"That was all that was available Gus. Here is your little hat to complete your outfit."

"I'm not wearing that."

"Why not? I think you look adorable in it." Gus finally smacked it out of my hand. I would let him win this one.

We were slipping through the hospital like a ghost. Until a nurse came out into the hallway and about ripped my arm off pulling me into a room.

"We need you doctor." A woman had her feet up in the stirrups as she lay on the table.

"Holy shit. I didn't know those can get that big and open so wide. Let's get your legs back together."

As soon as I would try to close them, they would spring back open again. After several attempts I almost gave up. So I had Gus push from one leg while I pushed on the other side to close them.

"Doctor she is dilated to nine centimeters. She will give birth at anytime."

"I think its false labor. Close your legs please." I didn't give up the fight to get those babies closed up so she couldn't have a baby on my watch.

"I can't close them. The baby is coming." The woman lifted her head off the table ans screamed at me. I don't why she was so angry with me, I didn't even know her.

"You should really close them. Keeping them open is what got you in this trouble in the first place young lady."

"We have to do something Shawn. We don't know how to deliver a baby."

"Pretend to pass out."

Gus did a great acting job as he turned around and hit the floor. I guess I should have caught him maybe before he actually hit the floor. But hell, it didn't matter. It gave us an out to leave. I got him a wheel chair and we booked ass out of there.

"So what now, Shawn?"

"We will go back tomorrow. Now, I have to get ready for my date with Bella."

A quick call to her and we were still on for tonight. I jumped in the shower and found a new shirt I packed. When I came out Jules was in our room too.

"How are you feeling?"

"I feel much better. I was wondering if you wanted to maybe hang out with me tonight, Shawn. We can watch a movie or something."

"I would love to. But I am getting ready to leave. I have a date with Bella tonight."

"Chief Charlie's daughter?"

"Yes."

"She is so young."

"Love knows no age Jules."

"Love?" Jules seemed shocked by it.

"What do you guys think about this shirt?" I styled and profiled around the room for them in it. "I want to look nice for Bella."

"I think you look like a big giant ass in it Shawn." Jules stormed out of my room.

"What's her problem?"

"If you can't figure out why Juliet is pissed off because you're going out with Bella. Then there is no hope for you kid. I would explain it but you never listen to anything I say anyway." Dad had made himself at home on my bed. Not that I cared, I wouldn't need it.

"I listen to everything you say because you're my big papa monkey. Don't wait up for me; it will be late when I get back."

"I'll give Bella an hour before she realizes she is not that in to you."

"I'll take a piece of that action Gus."

There was nothing to help with a vote of confidence like your best friend and father betting you will bomb with a girl. I had to walk because I didn't have a car to get to Bella's house. Tomorrow we would rent a damn car to get around in. I was hoping Charlie wasn't there though. He didn't seem to care for me very much. She met me at the door and thankfully I didn't have to speak to him.

"We can take my truck."

"I'm not much of a coffee kind of guy. How about ice cream?"

"Okay."

"Is Edward okay with you and me going out, Bella?"

"Edward doesn't own me. Do you mind if we talk about something else, please?"

Bella wasn't an open book. She spoke very little and I chattered on. I had to find some common ground between us to get some connection going on. Or this date would bomb. Then I would have to listen to Gus and Dad say; I told you so.

"It's rough when your dad is a cop huh?" This was something we had in common. Maybe it would give us a topic to discuss.

"You know what it's like being the kid of a cop?"

"All too well Bella."

'You said when we got in the truck; we were just going for ice cream. You tricked me into coming.' When Dad offered to take me out for no reason. I got excited. But, I should have known better.

'We are but first how many hats are there in this room when we walked in Shawn? Don't cheat by turning around and counting them either.'

'The cowboy sitting alone in the corner, one. The coach has a baseball cap on and so does his little league team, fifteen. Then the old guy wearing the funny hat at the counter. So there are sixteen hats.'

'Wrong Shawn.'

After I turned around and recounted them I still came up with sixteen hats. Pops was cracking up on me or something. 'Then how many are there?'

'There are seventeen hats in this room.' From under his coat Dad pulled out his cop hat. I rolled my eyes.

'That's cheating.'

'No it's not, you didn't pay attention when I took it off in the seat of the truck and stuck it under my coat. Nor did you notice the bulge in it. You failed this test because you weren't focused. There is not a small detail, which is not important.'

'Why can't we be a normal family for once and just have ice cream?'

'Because you were given an extraordinary gift Shawn. You're special kid. Don't ever forget that.'

Okay Pops had taught me some things growing up. If it wasn't for him. I would have never sharpened and honed in on my senses. Even the slightest details always ended up meaning a lot most of the time.

"How about we take a walk to work off the ice cream Bella?"

In front of us to cross the street to the park were two guys. The third moved so swiftly if I blinked I would have missed it.

"We are here for her."

I displayed my moves from the three Tae Kwon Do lessons I took. It didn't take them long to realize they were no match for my skills. They moved like the wind as they disappeared. "Are you okay Bella?"

"Yeah. I don't know what they wanted with me."

"I do."

"You do, Shawn?"

"Yeah, I hate those damn sneaky ninjas."

With the last event a walk through the park in dark was not wise. So we turned around and seen something even worse in front of us.

"I hate those damn stalker ex boyfriends more than ninjas."
