Kylo advanced towards her but he didn't raise his lightsaber up. Only when she tried to strike him did he strike at her in defense. He didn't want her dead-he wanted her at his side.

Her strikes were the weakest he had ever seen them. They had been diminishing in power for some time. The last couple of battles she only escaped because of miracles. But today was especially weak. He was going to win this time.

And she knew it.

But she was fighting until she couldn't fight any more.

She stumbled back, falling on her rear, her lightsaber raised to defend herself. He kicked it out of her hand, leaving her curled up and defenseless on the ground.

She was breathing so heavily and clutching her stomach and side.

She looked like death itself. Like someone who had just given up hope. He swore he saw the light leave her eyes as overwhelming grief took its place.

He bent down and gently tilted her head up using his thumb and forefingers. She was crying.

"I'm not going to hurt you." Kylo whispered, still towering over her- she was so tiny in comparison to him. "I promise, I'm not going to hurt you. No one will ever hurt you again."

Her face twisted into one of agony as she clutched her stomach. His eyes darted to where she was clutching. He couldn't see any blood or any indication of a wound. She kept turning away from him so he couldn't get a good enough look.

She wretched again and closed in tighter, letting out a loud wail.

"What's the matter?" Kylo asked as he got down beside her, balancing his massive weight on his knees. "What's wrong."

She didn't say anything. All she was able to do was wince in pain and clutch her stomach tighter. He took her into his arms and looked closer at what she was clutching and trying to hide from him.

Oh force…

Oh gods…

He was such a monster…

"Rey, are you pregnant?" He said rapidly, moving her arms a bit to get a closer look at her stomach.

She didn't respond, she just wailed again and curled into him, tears streaming down her face.

"What's wrong?" Kylo said frantically trying to find the route of the problem. "Oh force…"

He saw blood between her legs, slowly staining her pants and filling the air with a foul stench.

Without thinking, he took out his com link and commed the medics on his ship.

"I need you here now!" He shouted into the line, "The scavenger is heavily pregnant and suffered an injury- there's blood coming from her groin. Track my location."

"Yes sir. We're on our way sir. Stay on the line."

"You're going to be ok, Rey." Kylo whispered into her hair even though he wasn't sure if he believed it, "you and your baby are going to be alright."

She winced again and screamed.

"I'm sorry," He whispered, tears filling his eyes, "I'm so sorry…"

This was all his fault. He should have been able to guess that she was with child. He had been chasing her for months. He should have known. He shouldn't have chased her down to the edge of the galaxy. He shouldn't have fought her until the point of exhaustion. He should have known.

She winced again and clutched onto him tighter.

He wished he could give his life for hers in that moment. Not that his soul was worth her: he was a monster and she was an angel. But he would do anything, sacrifice anything to take away the pain she was feeling.

All he could do was wait and hope and maybe give her some comfort.

"I'm so sorry." He said once more, his voice cracking. "I'm so, so sorry.

The medics arrived and got her on a gurney, doing an examine on her as they approached the shuttle.

"What's going on with her?" Kylo shouted as they worked.

"We're still unsure." The main medic said, ripping off Rey's white pants and examining the region. "We're not sure how far she's along or what injury happened to cause this."

"We were fighting and she fell back onto the floor, hitting her lower back." Kylo said instantly.

They were in the transport now. In minutes they would be on the star destroyer and in minutes after that they would be in the med bay. But none of that mattered if they couldn't figure out what was wrong.

"Ok." The medic said, unreasonably calm. "I see what's wrong. The diagnosis is that the sudden blunt force trauma caused her to induce labor. Can you hear me dear?"

Rey gave a slight nod.

"Ok I'm going to need you to not push ok?"

She gave another slight nod.

Everything was a blur to Kylo. The tens of medics pushed him away from her and into the corner of the transport. He couldn't process anything that they were saying or doing. His mind was filled with only one thought: Rey was in agony, her child's life was in jeopardy and it was all his fault.

He couldn't bring himself to be in the medical room. The medics were appreciative of this as his rage was causing the walls around him to crumple. He figured the best place for him to be when he was like this was as far away from Rey as possible.

But he hated leaving her alone.

The dark thoughts were swirling in his head. He was putting her through that agony. He was the reason her child was going to die. He was the reason she was going to die.

He hoped that it was someone else's child and not his. If it was his...it made things infinitely worse. He would kill his own child...he would kill his own unborn child. He couldn't live with that. How could he live with that.

Rey...Rey…

How could he do this to her…
