If there is a scene missing such as Yang and Ruby talking to Blake, or the Wiess, Jaune, and Pyrrha scene missing, just assume it happened as it did in RWBY because holy fuck do I hate doing shit over again. Seriously, this chapter would have come out a month ago if it wasn't for those scenes just putting me off writing this chapter. So I decided to just not write them, they still happened but I just really don't want to rehash stuff that pretty much has zero change from canon.
Also, word was being a dunce and got rid of half of the progress I made so this should have been out sooner. I also hated writing the final fight scene so it ended up a bit... less than it should be. I just had to get this one out before it killed all the momentum this reboot has.
"Oh yeah, today's the day, no talking, just action, throwing down, all day, get pumped."
"Uhhh… you doing okay Ruby?" Yang asked as watched her little sister psych herself up for the day as they walked into Beacon's locker room. Everyone was in various states of awake, with some being fully ready and dressed and even talking strategies to get paired up. Yang could have sworn that someone was mentioning sloths involved in their plan. "I know that I love you but you're still freaking me out a bit with how pumped you are."
"Well of course I am! Today, there is no emotional squishy squashy small talk or how do you do? Just all of us against the wild and Grimm." Ruby said as she pumped her fist in the air ready for the trial of the day. "I'll get to show off both of the products of my hard work."
"Both?" Yang asked as she knew that Ruby was referring to Crescent Rose but was clueless as to what could be the second. Ruby smirked and led her sister over to where Corvus was stockpiling survival rations in his locker. The sisters had seen him go to the Beacon Kitchens and return the armfuls of the things. When asked about it he just said he's known hunger and would prefer to be prepared than go through that again. "Corvus! Show me what you got."
"I prefer living so no."
"Smart bird boy."
"What?"
"Never mind Ruby, what do you want." Corvus said still not turning around and continued to stack a large pile of Emperor's Mercy Bars in his locker. They tasted like shit but they were pretty much free to all Aspirants.
"Show Yang the weapon I made for you." Ruby said all giddy and completely passing over whatever it was that Corvus and Yang were talking about. The former criminal sighed and pulled out from his locker a fresh and shinny sword. His whip sword had been confiscated by the Arbites as it was in fact stolen but Ruby had decided to make Corvus a brand new one out of the piles of scrap and parts she had lying around. It wasn't a mecha-shifting weapon like most had, but the blade was capable of separating into smaller segments along a surprisingly long cable. It also had a extra feature of sending a high voltage current through the cable. Overall the sword itself was simple in its design as Ruby only had basic parts on hand. "Have you given it a name yet?"
"Yes, I shall be calling it Deliverance. For it shall be the instrument by which I escape the pitch darkness of the criminal hell that I was drowning in. With this blade I shall seek out the light of liberation even as I am unworthy to walk in it. And there I be imprisoned by fate or the plotting of others… nevermore."
"Emo try-hard."
"Meathead bimbo."
"Anyway!" Ruby shouted as she got in between the two before they started getting at it again, she didn't like to see them fight. Meanwhile both Yang and Corvus shrugged off the barbs and silently agreed to disarm for the moment as they were in front of Ruby. "Corvus, are you ready for today's test. We're going to be out there, just us and the enemy. It will be a piece of cake."
"Oh." There was something in Corvus' voice that unsettled Ruby as he and yang followed her back to her locker. "Yes indeed, today we are being thrown into the fires of tribulation. Where we must battle endless hordes of monsters but that isn't the most terrifying part. No, that is what lies at the end. Where we must prove ourselves worthy of becoming Astartes. And show our commitment to the Imperium… by killing an innocent bunny rabbit!"
"NOOOOOOO!"
"Don't do that you jerk!" Yang smashed Corvus into a nearby locker as he laughed at his rather cruel prank. She locked him in and even though he was still chuckling that stopped once he realized he was stuck Although Yang wasn't entirely sure that it was a prank. As what he said wasn't untrue. In their last year as Signal, all the students were given a chicken to take care of and at the end of the year, had to kill it in order to graduate. Yang still felt uncomfortable by both how much she bounded with a farm animal and having to kill her little Hot Wing. "Ruby, they're not going to make us kill bunnies."
"Really?" Ruby asked as she just wanted to kill Grimm and Orks. A part of her knew that she would have to fight actual people but she denied that part of her for the moment.
"Yes, but you are going to have to talk to people. Remember, everyone here is going to be taking placement. A big part about growing up is working with other people." Yang explained as Ruby opened up her nearby locker and took out Crescent Rose. She heard her sister groan at this, it being the one fact of the day that could ruin everything.
"I don't need to, I'm plenty of grown up as it is. I drink milk." Ruby said proudly and while Yang sighed she heard Corvus from inside the locker mutter something about how Ruby was going to die to a Nob's choppa on the first day. As much as she wanted to rebuke that, it had a cornel of truth to it. Yang was feeling more and more like Ruby was underprepared for what it meant to be a Aspirant due to her age.
"Part of being a Astartes is being apart of something. A team. A legion. The entire Imperium. You going to need to work with others." Yang wasn't used to being the one to lecture Ruby. She was the fun big sister that protected Ruby from all sorts of things. Bullies, their dad's depression, boys. All sorts of things.
"Ugh… you sound like dad." Ruby said as she placed her weapon back after having caressed it sufficiently to get through the morning. "And I don't need to meet new people to be good at fighting or making weapons. I'm plenty good at both those things on my own."
"You're avoiding the question!" Corvus shouted from his smallest cell ever.
"The bird boy is right, what about when you get on a team." Yang smirked as Ruby fidgeted a bit at the direct point of the question.
"Well, I'll just be on a team with you two then." Ruby responded back and Yang just sighed in defeat as she knew that this wasn't going anywhere productive. Thankfully there was sound of metal scraping metal and both girls looked over to see a pulled out coat hanger sticking out of the locker Corvus was in trying to undo the latch on it.
All of the would be Aspirants stood on the side of a cliff over looking the surrounding forest of Beacon. Small stone spires shot up from the trees and further onward was a clearing of monolithic stones assembled in a circle. The young men and women of Astartes hopefuls all stood in front of Commissar Cain and Vice-Headmistress Goodwitch, ready to begin their placement test.
"We will be assigning your teams today. You will live, train, and fight with your team. So make sure you get someone that you can work with." Goodwitch instructed, her voice stern and held a hint of warning. Ruby looked around nervously, she wasn't prepared yet and was worried about who she might end up with. Yang meanwhile checked up on Ruby and gave her sister a reassuring smirk. Corvus was quietly sizing up the competition, his goal was to either get Ruby or Leman as his partner. Everyone else was in a similar mindset, psyching themselves up or strategizing whom they would go after.
"Now as to how you get your partners…" Cain smiled, the commissar really did enjoy how Beacon conducted their placement tests. Much more interesting than Atlas and their stupid hairbrained personality testers. And best of all it was the kind where he could watch from a safe distance. "… the first person you have eye contact with will be your partner." The sound of glass shattering went off in the heads of several people.
"What?!" They all said with differing emotions behind the word before returning to being quiet at the sound of the Commissar's bolt pistol going off in the air.
"Thank you. Now… the forest below is filled with Grimm, mind you we have purged it of any Grimm Daemons and we have several Land Speeders squads here in case one pops up or if a band of Orks gets attracted by the sounds of fighting. Now, the goal is a small temple at the other end of the forest, Headmaster Ozpin has placed some kind of prize there for each pair to collect. Do that and get back here and you will be graded on how well you do, what you pick up, and who you chose."
"Do you have any questions?" Goodwitch asked before Cain started to begin the test.
"All of you get ready!" He yelled and everyone got into their positions while Jaune raised his hand.
"Um… sir, I have a question. How are we getting down from here to the forest?" Jaune said as a few of the students started getting shot into the sky.
"We're shooting you up in the air and you will fall to the ground.' Cain said absentmindedly as he went over a last few checks on a data-slate. He wasn't paying attention to obvious ill prepared state of the Arc boy.
"Oh… umm and did you forget to give out the parachutes or something."
"No, you need to use your own landing strategy." Goodwitch responded dryly as the line of aspirants grew shorter and shorter. Ruby gave a quick smile before she too was lunched from the cliff.
"So, um… what exactly is a landing strategy?" He asked before being shot into the air screaming as he flew.
He had wanted to become a Angel of the Emperor but Lorgar had never assumed he would be flying through the air like this so soon. Out of the corner of his eye he saw many of his fellow Astartes hopefuls employ various means to land safely… as well as Jaune getting speared out of the air. Lorgar muttered a prayer for the blond boy, pleading to the God-Emperor to guide Jaune down the right path.
As for him… all he had was his Aura. Neither his weapon or his Semblance would be useful in landing safely. Illuminarum was just a simple iron mace and his Semblance, Holy Fury, was just a aide to himself and his allies in the heat of battle. But, what he did have was a extraordinary amount of Aura and control over it. In his years growing up in the Blighted Lands, he needed to develop a strong Aura in order to fight off hungry Grimm with only his family mace. The old truth was correct, struggle breeds strength.
And so as he felt himself begin to fall faster toward the ground, a golden light enveloped him. His Aura and faith in the God-Emperor became his shield as he crashed into the hard earth of Remnant. Even with his Aura protecting him, his body felt incredibly sore and while there wasn't a mark on his skin he still felt as if a body wide bruise was on him. Lorgar pulled himself out of the hole he had made upon impact and with several labored breaths, let his Aura heal him and return him to a state of ready. With one last dust off, Lorgar ran off in the direction he believed to be toward the ruins at the other end of the forest. It had been the only landmark they had seen at the cliffs so he had to assume that was their objective.
"Already we are seeing trials of skill, I can only hope that my display wasn't short of what they are looking for." Lorgar knew that when it came to skill and advancement he would come up short to those that have lived their lives training for this day. He could only hope that it was in his conviction and power of his soul to come out of this as a true Aspirant of the Astartes.
As for his future partner, Lorgar had not given it much thought. As he ran between the autumn colored trees he had little mind for the eventually partnership that he would have to undertake. He did dearly hope that whoever they were they were a faithful servant of the Emperor as he was, but his ideals and focus was set too hard on his future brothers in the Word Bearers. That's the place where he belonged and everything until then was merely just another step on the journey to get there. Even the Grimm that were stalking him behind the shadows of the trees were just another step.
"Come on out abominations of Chaos! You will find no weakness in me!" He stopped as he could no longer deny his anger toward the beasts that sought only humanity's demise. A pack of Boarbatusks circled him, this was a unfamiliar Grimm to Lorgar as it was too weak to survive long in the Blighted Lands. But their numbers were greater than he was used to seeing.
Two of the boar like Grimm stamped their feet and charged toward the former farmer boy. Their intent to skewer him never materializing as the first was batted into the second by hard swing of Lorgar's mace. The sound of the Grimm's bone plating shattering came as the Aura infused mace smashed into it. The two Grimm tumbled aside, with one already dead and starting to vanish while the other struggled to get out from under the decaying body of its kin. The denial of the easy kill enraged the others and soon the entire pack started charging toward him.
He had fought many Grimm before but fighting this many at the same time was a challenge. Lorgar ducked and sidestepped as many of the charges he could, knowing that he could only counter the last as to avoid getting hit by the next. The Boarbatusks were ramming him to fast and hard to outright block them and thus leave himself open for a another to attack him. It was slow and steady, carefully avoiding attacks and instantly killing those that were a little too slow.
A proud smirk tugged at Lorgar's lips as he smashed in the head of what he assumed the last of the Grimm, the cracking of the bone plate on its head echoing through the trees. Once that sound faded however, Lorgar turned back at the sound of hooves charging forward signaling that he had missed one and the Grimm was now charging right for his back at full speed. He flared his aura, but knew that this attack would break through and while not kill him could do some significant damage. But then just as the Boarbatsuck leapt toward him, a wire of bladed segments shout out and wrapped around its throat. The momentum of the Grimm's lunge combined with the sharpness and tightness of it's new collar and in one clean slice its head was separated from its body.
"Well fuck me, you certainly weren't who I was after." Lorgar looked up and made eye contact with a long haired unkempt boy whose overall appearance was if one were being kind, would be called a mix of scavenged and downright poor. But it mattered little to Lorgar, as he still knew that all of this was only the tests and trials set by the God-Emperor.
Megan slid down the spire of crystal she created to bring her safely back down to the ground. A soft smile on her face as she found she rather enjoyed the speed of flying through the air. Maybe she would have joined the White Scars had she not been born a Psyker. A hobby to look into perhaps.
"Now, where is the nearest soul?" She held out her hand and small fires danced in her palm. She had been doing her work scouting out the others last night… after being escorted back to the great hall once she was caught trying to access Beacon's library. Afterall, her partner would her most trusted confidant, someone that would be there to lean on. Or at least that was how things were supposed to be within the Legions. Astartes partners are meant to be the inter-legion glue that binds us all together. Partners helped bridge the Legions, two legions that normally didn't like working with each other could find at least two among their ranks that were partners who could help smooth things over. An Astartes in the White Scars might have a partner in the Death Guard, now those two legions have very little in common but the bond those partners share still allows for the legions to have some hope of working together. It's made so the legions don't become isolated from each other. Even Astartes in rival legions like the Imperial Fists and the Iron Warriors have members that have partners that are in each other's legion. Whole inter legion conflicts have been avoided due to this system.
Small flames formed above Megan's hand, each representing a different Aspirant that was strong enough to have a Aura that she could sense even at this distance. Two were bright and golden, both she knew belonged to boys she didn't find acceptable. The Arc boy had tried flirting with the Schnee in the locker room this morning so he was out by the company he wanted to keep. And the other one was a fanatic. The rest weren't so strong as she could immediately pick out which were which. But the nearest wasn't too far away so she began her trek through the forest toward that soul.
Only to come and find the Schnee heiress, the God-Emperor had a sense of humor that Megan did not appreciate. Thankfully their eyes had not met and so after talking herself out of just ending the Schnee right then and there as no doubt the Astartes were watching them all, the red head just left. There was another strong soul nearby but the Schnee was heading in that direction so Megan just waved that one off. Same to the one currently beelining toward the golden Aura that had not been moving for some time now.
"Ahh… must this be so difficult. At this rate I might end up with someone that can't even register." The Psyker girl sighed as she decided to head toward the objective of the trial. Keeping a close eye on her dancing flames, she tried finding a suitable partner but many of those that she desired were already bunching up. It was frustrating her to no end, as was the Grimm currently trailing her. "I am in no mood Creature of Ruin, leave!" She turned and sent a fireball toward she sensed the taint of Grimm.
"Ey! I ain't no Grimm!" A feral looking boy shouted as he slipped under her attack. And it was already too late, so shocked by the she had mistaken a human for a Grimm she didn't close her eye and before she could it met one of the icy blue orbs of the boy. He had a fanged smirk on his face as the realization dawned on her.
"What are you smiling about savage? Clearly you and I could not be more different, what makes you so happy about us now being partners." Megan could not be more disappointed by this turn of events. Not only was her partner so weak with Aura that he actually felt more like a Grimm than a human, he was dressed in the attire of a tribal savage.
"Because I got me the perfect partner to cheat off of in every class."
"And that's the last pair to be made." Cain watched as Lie Ren and Nora Valkyrie found each other after the boy killed a King Tajiu Grimm, impressive. Most of the incoming crop of Aspirants were impressive. But then again, Cain had seen this coming as he knew that Ozpin had been doing some extra meddling in this freshman year. Ozpin was at times more meddling than a certain group the commissar had experience with. But at the end of the day he was retired and so long as he was able to stay that way he didn't care much.
"Some of them have me worried, others not so much." Goodwitch remarked as she looked down on her own data-slate. The entire forest had servo-skulls prowling it, keeping to the shadows and watching the teens when they found one. Grimm ignored the devices as they weren't alive and so didn't draw their attention. If normal Grimm started taking out Servo-Skulls it was because they had been ordered to, which was a grave warning in of itself.
"Yeah… the book worm and the mutt are going to something to keep an eye on. But I'm assuming your more on the Aspirants that didn't exactly come in the normal way." Cain smirked as he watched the Schnee heiress and Tai's youngest fumble at taking out a pack of Beowolves.
"I don't care how recommended he came or what his family is, Jaune Arc does not have the skills that an Aspirant needs." Just seeing the fact that he needed his Aura unlocked by his new partner raised so many red flags. Goodwitch was just about to send a letter back to his family asking why was their son so green.
Blake followed behind her new partner through the forest. It hadn't taken long for them to reach the clearing where the ruins awaited. But it had given her time to think about her current situation, unlike many going to Beacon she was only going to escape her past. This made who was her partner matter little as it would all be the same to her.
A month ago Blake was more concerned with the next White Fang raid or where their supplies would be coming from. Then her ex-boyfriend left her at the tender mercy of the Night Lords that had pursued them after their train job. If had been the Arbites that would have been okay, Blake had escaped from them before no problem. But these were the Night Lords… and Adam had known it was them. You didn't just let someone you claimed to treasure fall into their hands.
Thankfully for Blake, she had only spent a night in the holds of the Masters of the Night. Before she would go through any torture and interrogation she had been pulled out from her cell and placed in front of Headmaster Ozpin who offered her the chance to attend his school instead of staying where she was. She took the deal immediately, though at first only doing so because she believed escape would be far easier this way. But when she arrived in Vale… the urge to run and find the White Fang again was lacking. Something in her just wanted to stay on this path she found herself on. Bitterness and resentment toward Adam certainly played a part in it but also the gnawing feeling that the White Fang was changing into something she didn't recognize.
"I think I can see the prizes the Commissar talked about." So here she was, with her new partner. She and Yang walked up to the empty ruins where several stands with Regicide pieces sitting on top of them. Blake watched as Yang looked around and finally settled on the Knight piece. "How about a nice horsey?"
"Sure." Blake simply offered, not caring either way. The two had only met last night, in a rather awkward attempt at friendship in her opinion. But even still Blake found Yang's openness and warm bubbly demeanor very… out of place for her life experience. She could not recall a single White Fang member that acted like Yang did. It was throwing the cat Faunus off but it also was helping her mind realize that this new life she chose was different and she would have to adapt.
"That wasn't too hard, I was excepting them to throw a lot more at us." As Yang said this, there was a loud crash from the tree line. Then before either of them could react, something shot out of the forest and slammed into the largest stone monolith in the ruins. Blake and Yang both looked back to see a feral tribesmen boy falling to the ground with singed clothes.
"It was just a friendly question…" Leman groaned as he hit stone floor. Neither Blake nor Yang understood what had just happened as they looked to each other and then back to the forest where they saw another Aspirant walking toward the ruins. This time it was girl with half of her face covered in her red hair, but the rest of her face was nearly as red anyway.
"Asking me if I will or not be sleeping naked does not count as friendly!" Megan yelled as a held out a hand that quickly ignited in technicolor fire. Before any of the present females were able to enact some much needed lessons in manners, they all stopped as they heard a girlish scream come from the forest. "Please be who I hope it is."
"There's a girl out there in trouble." Blake however with her more precise hearing was able to sense a lot more than just that scream. She looked up and could see falling out of the sky was Yang's sister. But, as it seemed Chaos ruled this day's events… Ruby would not fall to the ground and instead was hit mid-air by Jaune and the both were sent into a nearby tree.
"Did your sister just fall out of the sky?" Blake asked trying to come to terms with what just happened. But before they could process that they all turned to the sound of a Ursa crashing through the forest line, and seemed to be ridden on by a very hyper active red headed girl. The Ursa quickly fell to the ground exhausted.
"Nora… please… don't ever do that again." Ren breathed out as he tried to catch his breath. But when he looked back up he noticed that Nora was gone. The others looked back and saw her take the rook piece doing a little song and dance. "Nora!"
"Coming Ren." She said as she hopped back to her partner.
"Did that girl just ride in on a Ursa?" The next crazy thing to happen was a Death Stalker chasing another female Aspirant past the tree line. This was then followed by on the other side of the clearing, a Beringel Grimm roared and smashed its way onto the scene as it chased its own Aspirant. All of this was really starting to pile up on each other but the insanity was only just winding up.
"Here heads up, there's a Beringel heading this way oh good it's already here." Blake and Yang jumped to the side as Corvus materialized out of nowhere besides them. In his hand was one of the objectives, the King Piece. "Me and my partner may have taken a wrong turn in getting here and during that detour accidently destroyed its home. Totally not my fault."
"I got the best prize!" Leman shouted in victory as he joined all the other Aspirants with the other King piece in his hand. "Nice bro, what got the same. Great minds thinkin' alike."
"Everyone just shut up for a minute while I try to figure out what's going on!" Yang roared as her Semblance manifested several explosions and flames around her. Quietly both Ruby and Ren join the group as everyone else just waits in silence as requested. Once the moment passes however, Ruby taps on her sister's shoulder and points up toward the giant Nevermore that Wiess was dangling from.
"I told her to jump…" Ruby mumbled.
"She's going to fall." Blake remarked.
"She'll be fine." Ruby defended.
"She's falling." Ren pointed out.
"Yay." Megan said as she took out her scroll to take picture for her new screen saver. They all watched as Weiss fell only to be caught by Jaune who also fell and provided Weiss with a soft landing at least. "Not exactly what I wanted but still worth it." Megan smiled as she looked on her Scroll that now had video footage of Wiess Schnee with a face of pure terror on it.
With that both the Death Stalker and the Beringel sought to complete the entire package and tossed both Pyrrha and Lorgar into the mix so that now all the cast was together. Far off in the many damned Eye of Terror, a certain being was chuckling to itself as everything was going just as planned. As of course, this many coincidences couldn't have happened all on their own. Similarly, a man in a clock tower smiled to himself as he too played the great game of impossible coincidences while he watched the teens all gathered together.
"Oh joy, now we can all die together." Yang complained as now the Nevermore began circling them as the two other massive Grimm were charging at them at full speed.
"Not if I have anything to say about it." Ruby said before charging with reckless abandon at the Death Stalker. Using her Crescent Rose's recoil to fire herself at even faster speeds. However this old and experienced Grimm simply batted her away and forced her to retreat back to the group. Now with the Nevermore moving in for a strafing run. The giant bird shot down a fury of quill like feathers, one of them catching Ruby's hood. Yang rushed forward to try and save Ruby but was beaten to it by Weiss who blocked the incoming Death Stalker tail.
"You are so childish." Ruby could hear barely, her slight terror muffling her senses for the moment.
"Weiss?" Ruby looked up to see Weiss had formed a wall of ice trapping the Death Stalker's claw and tail.
"And dim-witted, And hyperactive. And don't even get me started on your fighting style." Weiss said as she turned around to Ruby. "And I suppose… I can be a bit… difficult. But if we're going to do this. Then we're going to have to do this together. So if you quit trying to be a show off… then I'll be nicer…" Before Ruby could respond the Beringel Grimm roared as it appeared towering above them. It moved to crush them under its fists but was also incased like the Death Stalker but this time tendrils of solid Dust wrapped around the arms of the gorilla like Grimm.
"Ugh… I just saved a Schnee… I feel so filthy." The two girls looked back and saw Megan with her right arm completely uncovered, showing the intricate web of glowing tattoos on her dark bronze skin. "But I highly doubt the Commissar will look fondly on none of us doing anything while you two put yourselves needlessly in danger."
"You're the girl that called me trash!" Wiess shouted as she remembered that particular moment on her arrival at Beacon. While she was grateful that her life had just been saved, the continued talking down that she was getting chided her pride.
"What else would I call you?" Megan scoffed and further enraged Wiess even as there was sounds of slight cracking coming from both the Death Stalker and Beringel. However, tensions were rising and the battle stress certainly wasn't helping anyone here.
"Hey! Don't talk about her like that." Ruby said in defense of her partner. She didn't know who this girl was or why she thought so badly of Wiess… okay there were a few reasons Ruby could think of but that didn't matter.
"I can say whatever the warp I want about her. Right trash?"
"Listen here. I don't care who you are you don't…" Before Ruby could finish her sentence Corvus appeared between the two with the most serious look on his face she had seen. It wasn't snarling mad but a callous-uncaring glare that left a person feeling as cold as a corpse.
"Both of you shut up! This isn't the time for fighting among ourselves. That Nevermore is circling back for another run, and I doubt these two are going to stay trapped. We get what we came for and get the warp out of here." The two girls looked at each other, neither one could argue with that logic and both were a little cowed by the jailbird's stare. Neither of them had experienced real desperation and danger before, so seeing the eyes of someone who had was enough to shake them. Megan on the other hand only hesitated before scoffing and began to walk back to the rest of the group.
"Well look at you taking charge." Yang joked as Corvus returned to the group after Megan followed by Ruby and Wiess. It was a nice to see that when things came down to ahead, she could count on him to at least have his priorities straight. There was also something in seeing him put down the squabbling so efficiently that she could respect. "So, what's the plan oh fearless leader?"
"Shut it. I'm just trying to live a little longer. And the plan is to get back to the cliffs and the safety of having the vice-headmistress on our side." Corvus explained and this got several nodding heads at that idea. The Grimm that were present were each in their own right a massive threat but together was beyond a challenge for the teens.
"Run and live… that is an idea I can get behind." Jaune said before Leman hung his arm around him.
"What wrong pup? Scared to fight some Grimm?" Leman said with a savage smile on his face.
"Running away from the enemies of man is a cowardly move, however our objective isn't end their vile lives." Lorgar pointed as he pointed to the remaining pieces. "We have our orders, live to fight another day and complete our mission."
"Then let's get moving people." Corvus said as he started running back to the Cliffs.a few of the teens looked back at the sound of the Death Stalker and Beringel escaped their confinement. There were a few sounds of fighting between the two Grimm before they once again focused on the humans. The group continued to run and ended up at the base of the cliff surrounded by black obelisks and tomb like buildings that all jutted out of a empty black abyss. The Nevermore flying around the taller obelisks, the sounds of the ground based Grimm charging after them right behind.
"Looks like I get my fight after all." Leman happily growled out as the rest of them readied themselves. It was clear that the Nevermore wasn't about to let them just escape. A few of the more observant among them also noted that neither the nearby Headmistress or the Land Speeders on standby were coming into assist.
"You guys handle the incoming two, We can the Nevermore." Ruby shouted as she fired her scythe's sniper rifle into the ground to give her a boost to jump to a nearby spire. Yang followed her sister by using the overcharged shots in her gauntlets to propel her into the air, and was followed by her new partner as she used the extendable combat ribbon to swing herself across the battlefield. Not one to be left out, Wiess chased after her partner, using her glyphs to increase her speed and lunch herself into the top ruins.
"Here they come, the dumb ape is slow but packs a punch." Corvus said as he slunk to the back of the group to look for a opportunity to flank the Grimm and to provide area control with his whip-sword.
"The Death Stalker is fast, and can attack on several fronts but lacks precise movement and can be tripped up." Pyrrha offered her own experience as she, Nora, Lorgar, and Leman all took to the front as the Grimm came crashing through the tree line. Ren and Megan were in the back, the former due feeling his best place was to wait for the best moment to strike while the latter was content to sit back and provide magical artillery support.
Jaune meanwhile was on the second line and quickly trying to figure out just how useful he could be here. Then he looked back, first he saw Ruby and her group fighting the Nevermore as best they could but then he looked down. There he had a lightbulb moment as he saw the bridge that extended back into the ruins. It looked sturdy enough… for a group of people.
The Beringel was the first to reach the teens. Its loud roars proceeded the great thuds to the ground as it ran on feet and fists. Then it leapt into the air and slammed it's bulk into where they had all been standing, ruining their battle lines. A meaty pitch black arm swiped right and into Leman and Lorgar who both held up against it. Whisps of blue aura came off Leman twin fang swords, the runes carved into their sides shining brightly though not as bright as the golden glow surrounding Lorgar and his mace. Thee great ape Grimm bellowed out another battle roar as it pushed back on the two warriors, their feet dragging in the dirt as the Grimm tried with all its strength to push them down.
It was able to smash down with its other arm when as it was raised in the air it was wrapped by Corvus' barbed whip. The blades that serrated the cable dug into he Grimm's hide before a arc of electricity traveled up and into the beast. However this served to enrage the Beringel as it yanked Corvus off the ground and started madly failing it's tangled arm in the air.
"Someone stop this crazy thing!" Corvus shouted as he desperately held onto the hilt of his whip-sword in the midst of flying through the air. This was only made worse by Leman giving a mad war cry and leaping onto the Beringel's back, impaling his swords into the hide of the Grimm… though to quickly found himself at the mercy of the crazed panic of the beast. Lorgar tried his best to duck and weave through the stomps and continued flailing about of the Beringel.
"And I'm going to have to spend four years with these boys." Megan sighed as her face was held in her hand out of overwhelming embarrassment. But seeing as they had been doing all the work, she felt that it was time for her to contribute to effort.
She first started with a spell to loosen the bound whip cable, which caused in that exact moment Corvus to fly straight up into the air above the beast. This was followed up by Megan pulling her on her power and created several glyphed rings to surround the Grimm. Time slowed to crawl for the beast for just long enough for Lorgar to get his footing and with a hard smash to the dark ape's leg sent it to its knees. Leman ripped out his swords and holstered them back to his sides, then using his feral strength pulled himself to the Beringel neck, and with strong kickoff, lunched himself away and slammed the monster to the ground. The finisher came with Corvus landing with a executioner's blow, Deliverance slicing through the thick neck of the Grimm with all the force gravity could provide.
"Fuck yeah! That was fuckin' great fight, and it ain't over let's… arr… it's over." Leman's battle frenzied joy soured as they all watched a headless Nevermore fall down the side of the cliffs.
"Seems we weren't the only ones to succeed." Lorgar smiled as he caught his breath, the other two groups had dispatched their own Grimm targets as they had. "Nothing forges bonds like that of life and death combat. I thank the God-Emperor for bringing me such… unique comrades."
"I'm going to tear out my hair dealing with you empty headed boys." Megan sighed in defeat as Leman and Lorgar walked over to her as the other teens all regrouped back on solid ground.
"A battle manic wulfen savage, an Emperor bothering farm boy, and a Psyker amazon bitch… I've hit the lottery." Corvus muttered to himself as he kicked the vanishing head of the Beringel he had just finished off. He wasn't sure this would work out but he didn't have a choice in it. It didn't take a genius to figure out how the teams were made given the relics were Regicide pieces. Already Corvus could see the cracks in his coming team, Leman's savagery, Megan's superiority, Lorgar's fanaticism, and his own nihilism. But once again, he didn't have a choice.
"Up next, is Blake Belladonna, Ruby Rose, Wiess Schnee, and Yang Xiao Long." The four girls all stood together in front of Ozpin. Here they were, at the Aspirant Acceptance ceremony. All of the families of those joining Beacon were in attendance as well as many members of Vale's elite coming to see the fresh crop of Aspirants. Both Yang and Ruby could see their dad with a camera in the audience, and they had a feeling that their uncle was somewhere in the room. However, neither Blake nor Wiess looked for anyone coming to see them, though for different reasons. "You retrieved the Knight pieces and from this day forward you will team RWBY, led by… Ruby Rose."
"What?" Both Ruby and Wiess muttered in shock at this decision.
"I'm so proud of you." Yang cheered as she ran over to give her precious sister a big warm Yang hug. However it had to be broken up as they were the second to last team to be announced. The girls moved off the stage, Ruby still being crowded by her very loving sister while Blake just watched sisterly scene in amusement, and Wiess was… quiet.
"And lastly we have, Corvus Corax, Leman of the Russ, Magnus Ahmar, and Lorgar Aurelian. In your test you retrieved the King pieces, and from today forward you will be known as CLAR (Clarity)…" Immediately both Corvus and Megan felt that the had to be a joke given the personalities involved on the team. "… led by Corvus Corax."
"Yeah this has to be a joke." Corvus shuddered at whatever god must have it out for him.

A Guide to the Imperium
Chapter Seven – Aura
The ability of Aura has been utilized by humanity, and to a greater extent the Aeldari, for as far back as we remember. Believed to have been first unlocked during the Golden Age of Humanity, Aura has been used by primarily military forces, the elites, and the various priestly classes throughout history. This hold true in the Imperium, with some undesirable additions. Aura is commonly believed to be an extension of one's soul, and as much as the Tech-Priests try this has not yet been disproven. Aura can act as a barrier, a means of healing, and enhancing the body's physical abilities. But in these modern times it has gained to be a far greater need, protection against the ruinous powers.
Aura can be unlocked via three ways, naturally, danger, and through someone else who already has it. Those that develop Aura naturally are the most rare and do so usually during puberty. They also have the greatest control over their aura and most Psyker find their power through these means. Humans can also discover their Aura in the grips of the fear of death. An Imperial Guardsman has unlocked their aura moments before a Ork kills them is not a rare occurrence, though not nearly as common as many wish it to be. Unfortunately only one in a thousand achieve Aura this way. Another draw back to this is that those than gain their Aura this way often find it to be… broken. Their Aura flares up or doesn't always answer the call of need once the initial danger that brought it out has passed.
The common and easiest means of gaining Aura is having someone unlock it for you. This done through a person extending out their Aura into another and pulling it through the door so to say. Once this has been done, the body and soul is able to remember that initial time and repeat the process. With further training anyone can be adept at using their own soul for protection and power. But like all power, it can be a danger if misused.
Within the Imperium it is illegal to unlock a person's Aura without permission from the Adeptus Administratum. All users of Aura are required to be registered however they are not punished for not simply having Aura. This distinction was made due to the other means of gaining Aura and the common practice of Semblance Farming that the criminal underworld uses. While the threat of a uppity underling prevents Crime Bosses from handing out Aura left and right, they are not above dangling it as a reward for loyalty. It is well known that the traitors and heretics of humanity use Aura just as those loyal to the God-Emperor does, and it only thanks to natural greed and paranoia of these groups that keeps them in check concerning this.
Author's Notes
Thank you to those that suggested team names but this one felt too funny
Here we have it. Everything is set and ready to go. Now, we have the intro to Beacon thing, Weiss and Ruby thing, the Jaune and Cardin thing, and lastly the Blake and White Fang and Roman thing. I wanna throw in at least two things that original here. One of which will likely be Corvus confronting his past and stuff. But as for the other one... I'm open to Ideas.
Also, one thing that is important here is that Vale and Beacon will not be falling at any point in this story. I have only watched up to volume 4 and I don't really care for anything beyond that sans a few things, as I have said before. If someone has a Idea for something that involves something from beyond volume 4 then feel free to PM me about. But for the most part, everyone will be attending Beacon for the full four years and Then splitting off to join the Legions. Also no Maidens or Relics.
Reviews
H20 Ferrum Domnius - they aren't per say Gork and Mork. Orks don't have Aura, they have WHAAAAGGG! energy. Qrow is only a Primarch because he joined the White Scars cause they are very independently minded and don't have a lot of rules or meetings, and he became their Primarch because no one else that could have the job wanted it and Ozpin pulled strings. Qrow as a Primarch doesn't actually do anything as the White Scars operate as small groups that work with other Imperial groups.
Eltyr - Text to Speech Emperor will be having a large influence here as this is partly a comedy.
