Before we left, I had checked to see how many items we had. We had roughly 10 pokeballs, 2 great balls, 1 Ultra ball, 10 potions, 3 super potions, 1 hyper potion, and 2 of each status effect (Poison, burn, sleep, paralysis, frozen) and to top the cherry on top, in total we had… 2,000 pokedollars. These items were enough to help us survive a few towns, but other than that… there wasn't much to go off of. I wasn't all that great with money, but a flip switched inside me to take things serious here and not have the urge to spend.
I bundled those items up into a backpack that was strapped to my back, so things should be fine if I'm careful from here on out. Anyway, while on the road, I would constantly check the bag to see if anything changed just in case, but luckily nothing happened. While walking, one of the things that truly caught me off guard was how realistic Pokemon acted to real life animals.
The bigger the Pokemon, the more control they had over the entire ecosystem, effectively being the tertiary consumer of the food chain in that region. Not only that but competition was intense, since the fights here are a lot crazier than real life animal fights, witnessing some animals fight was odd but intriguing. I would see weedle and Caterpie string shot each other and attempt to poison the other, a pikachu and geodude using elemental attacks (How did that geodude know fire punch if it looked so weak?) While the pikachu was attempting to use a thunder shock on the geodude; that poor pikachu… I knew who was going to win this fight.
Not only that, but I would occasionally catch glimpses of big Pokemon fighting in massive battles. The one that caught my eye the most was a massive Ursaring (Bear like Pokemon, pure normal type) Fighting a majestic Sawsbuck (Normal/grass)... a sawsbuck.. Huh? That reminded me of the xerneas I encountered in the forest… Is this what it had to leave me for, other Pokemon fighting each other to the presumably death?
Not only that, but how was it so casual about seeing me? I thought legendaries were more careful around humans. I had a lot of questions to personally ask it, but I knew I wouldn't get answers to that for a while, but something was and still is gnawing at me from the inside, just one question; Am I attracting all these events? Was there something that happened to me while going through the VantaBlack portal that changed me as a person, am I officially a "hero" or what?
I think no matter what the specifics are, I want to enjoy myself in this world, but if I must, I will help save it too. "Hey Bahamut, you alright? You looked deep in thought, so I didn't want to bother you, but I wanted to let you know that there's dark clouds looming over us.. I think it's going to rain soon." I snapped out of my trance and replied "Oh right, sorry Amber, let's set up camp somewhere then, we're already too far from the town to go back to the apartment" She nodded and quickly scanned around for a good spot until her eyes lit up and turned to me excitedly "I think I found something" She pointed to a clearing into a little area surrounded by trees, which looked like a good spot for camp.
I smiled and ran over there with Amber by my side; Leonidas was resting in my pokeball, since I didn't want to keep him out for too long at a time, I had put him in when we started the walk;maybe I can let him out tonight so we can train a bit? We entered the clearing and started to get to hard work, we both rolled up our sleeves and got down and dirty, setting up the post on each side, connecting/knotting the ropes, and forming the tent.
Once done, Amber climbed inside ready to go to bed. I was about to go in when I suddenly noticed a very important detail; We only had one tent. I shuddered, prayed to any legendary who could hear me to spare me from any embarrassment, and walked inside. Almost the second after I got inside, it started pouring down, there wasn't even any drops of rain to signify an oncoming shower of rain, it was almost immediate. I sighed and sat down in the tent… I guess I won't be doing much anytime soon, at least until the rain slims down.
