I DO NOT OWN THE SELECTION SERIES. SHOUTOUT TO LOGANMCDONNELL FOR SUBMITTING THIS CHARACTER.
Phoenix. Province of Zuni. Announcement Day.
Rosalyn Quinton felt as though she could burst at any given second. She was pacing around alone in her college dorm room. Her room mates had wanted to watch the broadcast with her, but Rosa had opted to watch the selection announcement alone. In case she hadn't been chosen, she wanted a few minutes to collect herself. The three other girls that Rosa shared her flat with were in the living room, watching it on the big tv. Rosa couldn't understand why she was sweating bullets. When she was litigating mock trials for class, she was cool as a cucumber. However, she was racked with almost crippling anxiety as she waited for the announcement to commence. Finally, after waiting for what seemed like forever and a day, the Illèan national anthem began to play as Princess Melody appeared on screen in a beautiful pink dress. Rosa felt butterflies on her stomach as she gazed at the beautiful royal with blonde hair and brown eyes.
"Good afternoon, my fellow Illèans." She announced with a smile. "After receiving one hundred of the best applicants and careful consideration, I am pleased to announce the 35 persons that have been selected." It felt like torture having to wait for Melody to get to Zuni.
"Please pick me." Rosa pleaded as the princess kept reading names off the list.
"From the province of Allens...Mr. Abraham Van Buren!" Melody exclaimed as Rosa kept waiting. Sometimes, it was unpleasant living in Zuni. Eventually, princess Melody reached the end of the list.
"And last but certainly not least, from the province of Zuni...miss Rosalyn Quinton!" Rosa's screams inside her bedroom marched those of her dorm mates outside of it. The second Rosa walked out of her bedroom, she was engulfed in hugs.
"Holy shit, You actually got selected!" One of her room mates: a fellow pre law student by the name of Hermia Taylor exclaimed as she hugged Rosa tightly.
"I honestly didn't think that I had a chance." Rosa admitted as she basked in the affection.
"Can you imagine it?" Another room mate, a communications major named Helena Fillmore asked as she extremely giddy. "You'll get to go to the palace and wear beautiful clothes and be near the royal family! I am so freaking jealous of you right now."
"Did you see Princess Melody?" Rosa asked as a streak of pink appeared on her dark skinned cheeks. "She looked so beautiful."
"Ooh...someone has a crush!" The teasing came from rosa's other room mate: a med student named Ophelia Pierce.
"Knock it off!" Rosa said as she tried desperately to hide the blush on her face to no avail.
"You are totally blushing, you have the hots for the Princess!" Hermia insisted as the law student rolled her eyes.
"Please, three-fourths of the people in Illèa probably have the hots for her." She argued.
"Yes, but you have something they don't: a place in the selection." Helena added as the girls kept squealing at the prospect of their friend and roommate having a chance to possibly become a future Queen.
That evening, Rosa and her friends had gone out to celebrate her getting a place in the selection. It was around 9:30 when they finally returned to their dorm. As she was relaxing on her bed, she decided to take this moment to call her parents. The phone rang for a few moments before someone picked up.
"Hello?" A feminine voice called out. It was that of a middle aged banker named Tinna Qunton.
"Mama...it's Rosalyn." She said.
"Oh my baby, how are you?" Mrs. Quinton asked as one could hear the joy in her voice. "Your daddy and I saw you on the TV, the home phone has been ringing off the wall all day long. We got friends and family congratulating us, wishing you luck. It's amazing!"
"We're real proud of you." Robert Quinton said as he got on the phone to talk to his daughter.
"I'll bet, me and the girls just got back from the student lounge. Ophelia got real tipsy." Rosa replied with a chuckle and then a sigh.
"What's wrong baby?" Mr. Quinton inquired as she could detect that something was amiss.
"I'm glad that I was selected, I really am daddy." Rosa insisted as she tried to find the right words. "It's just that...I'm scared."
"Scared of what?"
"What if I meet the Princess and she doesn't like me?" Rosa asked with nervousness flooding her voice. "What if I fall for her and she sends me home?"
"Come on, Princess Melody will adore you. You are a beautiful girl." Tinna replied with a scoff as Robert cleared his voice.
"That's a risk you have to take. When you go looking for love, whether it's with a commoner or a royal, there's always risk involved." Robert replied as he tried to lay down some good advice for his only daughter. "You just have to put yourself out there and if you two are meant to be together, the good Lord will find a way to make it happen."
"Thanks Daddy." Rosa said with a smile as her father always knew exactly what to say to cheer her up. Before she went to bed that night, Rosa prayed to God. She thanked him for this opportunity and asked to watch over her in the coming weeks.
"Please God...make Princess Melody like me." Rosa prayed as she truly wanted to win the heart of that beautiful girl. She finished her prayers and started to mentally prepare herself for the trial that was ahead of her.
