I DO NOT OWN THE SELECTION SERIES. SHOUTOUT TO ABIZEAU FOR SUBMITTING THIS CHARACTER.

Myrtle Beach. Province of Carolina. Announcement Day.

Anna Bristol could not believe how slowly the clock was moving. Truthfully, she did not enjoy working as a cashier at the local pharmacy, but it was not a permanent thing. Anna was just collecting a paycheck until her writing career took off. It surly would any day now. She has written over a dozen short stories that had appeared in provincial and national magazines and she had even published a book of her own. It was the first part in a series that she planned called Heroes In The Making. The first book in this series had been about a young nurse named Tatiana Johnson. She had written the book and all of her short stories under the pseudonym Marie A. Bristol; which was just her first and middle name switched around, but it had a nice ring to it all the same. The book had brought in a modest profit, but reviews had been mixed and it was not the smashing success that Anna or her publisher had hoped for. He had agreed to publish the next book in the series, but she had not made much progress on it, except for deciding that the plot would center around a firefighter.

Eventually, after what seemed like a eternity of waiting, her boss finally closed up the pharmacy for the day and Anna was off the clock. Normally, she could bear with the boredom most days. This was not most days however. This was the day that the selected would be announced and Anna had submitted her name. Her friends had told her that every young man and woman in Myrtle Beach had entered and the odds of her getting chosen were slim, but she had done it anyway. The whole idea just spoke to the fairy tale lover in her. Anna refused to listen to the odds. She was going to go all in and hopefully, fate would lend her a hand.

Anna raced out of the pharmacy and got on her bike. She had a valid driver's liscense, but she didn't like driving if she could help it. Besides, everywhere she needed to go was within biking distance anyway. She raced through the city as she fast as she could as she refused to miss the Princess's broadcast to the nation.

When Anna arrived at the small house that she shared with her mother, she found a fresh pot of coffee waiting for her.

"Oh thank God!" Anna exclaimed as her mother poured her a cup.

"I figured you would need your Java fix ASAP." She said with a laugh. Most parents would be incensed at the idea of their twenty four year old child still living at home, but Heather Bristol was not most parents. She enjoyed living with Anna and being as close as they were. The Bristol women sat on the couch with their cups of coffee as the Illèan national anthem played full blast and Princess Melody appeared on screen looking as beautiful as ever.

"My God, she looks pretty!" Anna sighed. "I bet she's a very sensitive person."

"Anna and Melody sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G!" Mrs. Bristol sang as Anna blushed wildly.

"Shut up mom or I'll miss it!" Her daughter begged as she focused on the screen.

"Good afternoon, my fellow Illèans." Princess Melody announced with a smile. "After receiving one hundred of the best applicants and careful consideration, I am pleased to announce the 35 persons that have been selected. Luckily, the Princess went in alphabetical order so Anna didn't have to wait too long.

"Please pick me..." she whispered as she made eye contact with Melody on the screen.

"From the province of Carolina...miss Anna Bristol!" Princess Melody announced as Anna jumped on the couch with joy.

"I knew it mother, I knew they would choose me!" She exclaimed as Heather wrapped her daughter in a tight hug.

"I'm so happy for you honey." She said as Anna finished her coffee and went to her room to start packing.

"This is like a fairy tale: getting to live in a palace, attending parties, courting a Princess, it's every thing I have ever dreamed off!" Anna cried out, her voice flooded with glee.

"I just wish that you had not lied on your selection form Anna," her mother said with sorrow in her voice.

"Please don't do this mother," Anna pleaded. This was the absolute last thing that she needed to hear right now.

"I can't help it honey. In order to qualify for the selection, you have to be a virgin and as much as we both wish you were...you aren't. Not since that douchebag Kevin Nelson took it from you," Mrs. Bristol muttered.

"One, he didn't take it, I gave it to him in an attempt to save our sinking ship." Anna clarified. "Two, it was a mistake, and three, no one is going to find out."

"But still!" Anna's mother whined as she turned to her.

"Mother please...this is the biggest adventure of my life. Don't spoil it for me," Anna begged as she kept packing. This was a fairy tale come true for her and nothing was going to ruin it.
