I DO NOT OWN THE SELECTION SERIES. SHOUTOUT TO NIKT WANZY FOR CREATING THIS CHARACTER. THIS WILL BE THE LAST OC INTRODUCTION CHAPTER.

Oxford. Province Of Midston. Announcement Day.

Noah Addington was almost done with the pickup truck he had been working on for the past few hours. Working as a mechanic was not a particularly glamorous job, or a very hygienic one, but it was what he was good at and it was what he was passionate about. He had finally finished the truck and placed a call to the owner that he could come pick it up at anytime. Noah looked at the clock in the shop and was thrilled to see that his shift was finally over for the day. He went to clean himself up and change back into his regular clothes. After Noah cleaned up and changed, he ran into a fellow mechanic and friend of his named Rio Platt on the way out.

"Yo Noah, you going to watch the announcement?" Rio asked as Noah nodded.

"Damn right, I have to know if I was selected." He replied as the two mechanics shared a laugh. They both knew that the odds of Noah being chosen were slim to none. He was just a mechanic barely making ends meet. There were plenty of wealthy upper class men and women in Midston that would make better representatives for the province. Neither guy wanted to admit it though.

"Well, whatever happens...you are an awesome dude." Rio insisted as he and Noah bumped fists.

"For sure bro." Noah replied as he clocked out and got in his truck. As he sped off towards his house, he tried to keep his emotions in check. The idea of a mechanic getting chosen to be in a royal selection was simply not plausible...despite the fact that he wished it was.

As soon as he got back to the flat that he shared with his parents, Noah went straight into the living room. His parents weren't home yet which was a common occurrence in the Addington house. Noah's old man was a construction worker and his mom was a clerk at a local store about 3 blocks from their flat; which was good for her because she didn't need to drive in order to get to work. Noah always had to drop his dad off at the site before going to the garage. Noah sat down in front of the TV which wasn't really fancy, but it worked well enough. A western was finishing up and once the credits had rolled, the national anthem of Illèa began to play and a smiling princess Melody Schreave appeared on the screen.

"Good afternoon, my fellow Illèans." Princess Melody announced with a smile. "After receiving one hundred of the best applicants and careful consideration, I am pleased to announce the 35 persons that have been selected." Noah took a deep breath as he prepared himself for the rejection that would surly come to him. He had to wait a bit because his province was in the middle of the list.

"From the province of Midston...Mr. Noah Addington." The crown Princess announced as Noah was glued to the spot he was sitting in with his mouth agape. His first thought was how could he have been chosen to represent the province of Midston in the selection of Princess Melody. Surely the governor's office had received far better applications from far better people than an struggling mechanic from the poor section of the small town of Oxford. Nevertheless, Noah was excited that for whatever fluke or reason, he had been picked to compete in the selection for the hand of Princess Melody Schreave in marriage. He couldn't wait for his mom and dad to get home from their jobs so that he could tell them the good news.

Noah went to the fridge and began to nibble on the last ice cream sandwich that was in the freezer. He didn't have many luxuries in his life, but the joy of ice cream could be relatively cheap, if you bought the generic store brand. As he ate the frozen treat, Noah thought about the changes that would come to his life as a result of his being selected. It was a bit sobering though because Noah knew that he was going to have to ask his boss at the garage to allow him some time off work in order to compete in the selection without being able to tell him straight up how much time off he would need. He didn't really want to lose his job, but thankfully his family would be paid the selection fee for every week he survived the selection. He had no idea how much families got for their loved ones being in the selection, but when you were just above the poverty line as the Addingtons were, you learned to pinch every last penny you could. Even more so, Noah was excited because he was going to the capital in the province of Angeles. The young man had never before been outside of the town of Oxford. Noah was ready to find himself some adventure and maybe a soulmate to boot.
