Servants of Remnant
Chaldea is gone, but the memories remain. A world, filled with fairy tales, monsters and men. A history unlike any other. Sometimes… a hero is needed. From another world, from another time. Not all of them are great, not all of them are 'good'. But when the world needs a hero, these Servants answer the call. Perhaps only one, perhaps many do. These are the tales of many timelines. The 'Servants of Chaldea' who come to Remnant.
Sieg
Sieg wasn't exactly sure what he'd signed up for when he'd pledged himself to this mission, but he hadn't been… expecting to be following Adam through the middle of the woods. "Adam, can you please tell me what we're doing?"
"What we're supposed to be doing is scouting for Grimm… what I'm doing is trying to find a good spot to unlock your Aura," Adam responded, turning towards him for a moment as they were cresting a hill. Sieg just looked up at him in surprise, and still couldn't tell anything behind that mask… for something that only covered half his face, it was surprisingly good at hiding his emotions.
"I'm not even sure if I can…" Sieg muttered and Adam just huffed, before continuing up the hill.
"All living because can unlock their Aura, don't sell yourself short," he shot back, even as Sieg tapped his still bandaged chest.
"Then why aren't we doing this back at the caravan?" he questioned, and this time Adam didn't turn towards him just walked over the hill, and Sieg stopped when he reached the top himself. "Wow…"
The forest stretched as far as the eye could see, but nearby, was a large waterfall, pouring out a torrent of water into the river below. Colorful trees dotted the landscape between the green, and Adam turned towards him, still walking down the hill towards a field of flowers. "You coming kid?"
"Right!" he nodded as he responded, jogging down the hill after Adam, who started speaking again.
"We're doing this here because I want to see what you're capable of," he explained, Sieg looking towards Adam in shock, before he snapped his fingers. "I'm not going to fight you, we're gonna stir up a bit of trouble here, and see what sort of Grimm we can get to come to us… and cut them down," he said, clenching his fist at the final part of that before turning towards Sieg and tapping him on the shoulder. "What, you scared kid?"
Sieg just shook himself from his stupor, "Not at all," if anything, this was exciting. He wasn't sure if he even… could unlock this Aura thing, and if it would drain his mana. But from what he'd heard, it was a manifestation of the soul, at least, that's what Ghira and Sienna had called it.
A part of him still wondered… did he even have a soul? An homunculus turned dragon… and then into a heroic spirit of sorts. This might actually give him that answer, the first of many.
"Ready kid?" Adam asked, and Sieg nodded… and Adam smirked, before punching Sieg in the gut, Sieg grunting as a shot of energy went through him, and… something sprung up around him, Adam watching with one hand on the hilt of his sword as Sieg straightened himself out, and looked at his hands. A slight green glow over them before it faded, and he looked towards Adam. "See, told you it would be fine,"
Honestly, he was completely surprised that had worked… and was a bit miffed that Adam had just punched him, but he already felt a lot better now. Adam started walking again, through the field of flowers before drawing his sword, Sieg following after him and drawing his as well.
"Well then… let's see was you can do kid!" Adam shouted, he didn't see his face as he ripped his sheath off his belt before pulling the trigger, firing a very loud shot into the air, resheathing his sword before putting it back on his belt and rushing forward through the flowers, kicking up white petals behind him. Sieg held a hand up to his face, avoiding getting anything in his eyes before smiling, lightning sparking off him before he launched himself forward, nowhere near as fast as Adam, but fast enough to keep himself in sight.
Adam then suddenly leapt upwards, avoiding the swipe of a claw. Sieg grunted, dropping into a slide and raising his sword as he passed under the arm of the creature, getting it caught in the arm and yelping as his momentum carried him upwards, dragging his sword up the creature's arm as he landed on it, unbalanced, and then looked to his left. It was an Ursa, as he'd learned they were called. It pulled back its limb, and Sieg jumped off, landing feet first against a nearby tree… before kicking off it and slashing at the beast's head, sending it flying before rolling onto the ground, jumping upwards to his feet after a few seconds of rolling in the dust. That had hurt, but not as much as he'd expected from his sudden stop.
"You're pretty good kid," Adam shouted from somewhere, before leaping out of the branches, a smile on his face as he swung his sword downwards, Sieg gasped, bringing up his own to stop Adam's blade, the two swords sparking against each other for a few moments before Adam hit the ground.
"What the heck Adam?"
"I'm testing you, now here they come!" he stated, and looked over towards the right, Sieg following his gaze towards a pack of beowolves, he grit his teeth, clutching his sword before screaming as he ran forward.
Adam stood back as Sieg had one charge at him. It swung at him, and he ducked beneth its swing, grunting as he planted his foot, swinging upwards and leaving a large slash across the wolf's chest, before getting socked in the side of the head by the other paw and sent flying a few feet before he could right himself. Again, it had hurt… but he wasn't bleeding. Focusing a bit more, he ran forward, screaming as he tore his hand off his sword, rushing forward before shoving it directly into the wound he'd stabbed into the creature, his hand shifting into Siegfried's gauntlet… a shock of lighting coming from it that fried the monster inside out. He ripped his hand out, changing it back before it had even left the body and ducked the oncoming swing from the next Beowolf, stabbing upwards and planting the tip of his sword right between its eyes, the monster going slack as Sieg pulled his sword out, jumping backwards, and then flipping away as one tried to rush him, much larger than the rest, swinging as he kept dodging backwards.
Adam leapt forward, parrying the alpha's claws with his sword, sheathing and redrawing it with every swing. It roared, before Sieg jumped past Adam, lightning surrounding him once more as he grit his teeth, and Adam got a full view of Sieg's sword… and it was enveloped in flames, changing from a small sword, to a massive greatsword in the spawn of a second, and cleaving straight through the alpha's torso, cutting it clean in half before changing back into its normal form.
Adam stood behind him, shocked for a second… and almost instantly ended up getting a rock to his side, grunting as he was sent flying, Sieg spinning around and then looking where the rock had come from as Adam pulled himself off the ground, both of them looking towards a large… rock golem.
Sieg felt a very real sense of deja-vu for a moment before jumping away from the next rock being flung at him. Adam started running towards the golem, Sieg leaping into a tree before shouting. "I think we might have caused a bit too much trouble!"
"Nonsense, we're just getting-" he jumped over the swing of the massive rock golem, landing on its arm and running straight for the mask on the center of its 'torso' "Started!"
He swung, his hair glowing red as he cleaved the rock clean in half, but then a ghostly figure popped out of the rock he had just slashed, Adam followed up by twisting his body and firing his rifle sheath from the hip, the ghostly figure instantly dodging his bullets before trying to fly away, Sieg took his chance, jumping from the tree he was in and screaming as the thing looked up at him, only to get stabbed straight in the mask by his sword.
Just as soon as he pulled his sword up, Adam ran past him, rushing straight for the next grimm coming towards them. Sieg held his chest, panting a bit as Adam ducked underneath a paw strike, and then parried a blow from the other claw. Sieg shook himself from his stupor and chased after… before deciding to do somethign stupid.
He threw his sword just as Adam parried another blow from the creature, it reared back to try and bite the bull faunus, only for Sieg's sword to land blade first in its chest… and Sieg himself to slam his foot into the hilt only a second later, driving the blade completely through to the order side of the Ursa and into a nearby tree. He landed on his feet, stumbling for a second as Adam grabbed his arm, Sieg looked up, Adam smirking before looking further on, Sieg joined him, and then groaned at the sight of a large scorpion monster rushing towards them, ripping down trees as it went. Adam let go of his arm and pulled his sheath off his hip, starting to fire bullets at the thing while Sieg retrieved his sword.
"Adam!" Sieg shouted, the faunus ignoring him as he dodged a swipe from the scorpion's massive claw, and the deflecting an attempted sting from its massive stinger, for a moment he turned, watching as Sieg raised his sword with both hands.
"If you're going to do something-" he jumped away from another swipe, "Do it fast!"
Oh he was going to, closing his eyes as lighting sparked around him, his hands being covered in armor as his sword transformed back in Balmung, he breathed, beneath his shirt, a blue glow started, hidden by both bandages and his clothing, Adam completely leapt out of the way, the scorpion zeroing in on Sieg as Adam looked on from a tree. "Well… how about that," he muttered, as Sieg's eyes snapped open.
The scorpion was closing in as Balmung was enveloped in flames. It wasn't going to be strong enough to cut clean through this things armor but… he looked at the stinger, hanging just over its 'head' and huffed, before running forward, slowly building up a yell as the monster swung at him.
He leapt as it did so, slashing once at the stinger where it connected to the beast's tail, blue flames cutting clean through, the stringer dropping onto the things head as it reared back in pain, screeching, and accidentally letting Sieg plant his feet on it. With some footing, he rose Balmung over his head, "HURRRAH!" and swung, cleaving its tail downward, splitting it in twain before leaping off the monster's head.
It screeched as Adam just down, Sieg landing and panting as his hands returned to normal, his Balmung returning to his normal sword as Adam pat him on the shoulder. "Nice try kid," he gripped his sheath, hair glowing red, before swinging.
From the back, the creature started dissolving from Adam's powerful swing, his hair returning to normal as he started panting himself, sheathing his sword, he offered a hand to Sieg. "Nice trick… what are you?" Adam asked, and Sieg just chuckled.
"Even… I'm not sure about that one," he lied, kinda. He really… wasn't sure what he was at this point. He'd been a homunculus, a dragon, a heroic spirit, what did that make him right now? Was he still any one of those things, all three of them? Was he technically a 'Faunus' by virtue of… well being part dragon?
"Well, let's just say human ain't one of them, come on." Adam said, offering his shoulder, Sieg throwing his arm around it as they started walking together, the tip of Sieg's sword dragging in the dirt behind them as Adam started talking again. "You're pretty good kid… where'd you learn?"
"From experience," Sieg responded, and Adam just huffed a bit at that.
"I meant your teacher, everyone learns from experience," he clarified, and Sieg just chuckled, the face of a certain bubbly paladin popping into his mind… and then Siegfried himself popping in.
"I learned… from a friend and… I guess you could call him my father?" Sieg suggested, leading Adam to hum at that.
"He a good man?" Adam asked, the two trudging back through the field of flowers as Sieg chuckled.
"Well… I didn't get to know him very well, not until… well, two weeks before he… passed on," Sieg tried to explain. Those two weeks he'd had with the Master and all the servants from the Great Holy Grail War within the Greater Grail… he'd finally gotten to really talk to the man who was, at least in spirit, his father.
"...Sorry," Adam added, and Sieg just shook his head.
"It's fine Adam," he said, but Adam looked ahead, not facing Sieg at all.
"Hell of a Semblance you've got… never seen anything like it, strong too," Adam commented, and Sieg just closed his eyes, and chuckled.
"I suppose I'm good for something at least," he commented. He was only anything because of Siegfried… and in a way, because of Frankenstein.
"Never doubt yourself kid, you fought well without it, and you'll fight well with it. But fighting isn't everything, you can do a lot with your life, you just gotta look forward," Adam explained, kinda surprising Sieg.
"Thanks Adam,"
"No problem kid, now let's get back before Sienna kicks my ass,"
"YOU DID WHAT!" Smack, Sieg winced as Adam fell to the dirt, groaning and rubbing his face from Sienna's fist smashing against his face, his aura actually flickering before shattering after it as well.
"Sienna please," Ghira started, holding her shoulder, Sienna sighing before clutching her fist and closing her eyes. "Sieg's fine, and Adam's fine… everything turned out alright,"
"You're soft Ghira," Sienna muttered as Adam dragged himself up off the ground.
"Might… have deserved that," Adam complained as he fixed his mask, making sure it was still on his face perfectly as Sieg looked between all three of them.
"So… where are you all going?" he asked as Ghira started walking back towards the front truck, several other members of the 'White Fang' all around talking amongst themselves as Sieg jogged after Ghira, leaving Adam and Sienna to talk between themselves.
"North. There's a few rumors I want to follow up on," Ghira muttered as he opened the door to get in the passenger side of the truck's cabin.
"Rumors?" Sieg questioned, and Ghira just looked at him and smiled.
"Rumors about a Faunus who's been doing alot for people. Not just other Faunus, but anyone he comes across. Been trying to find him, but despite his… rumored size, seems to be quite the hard fellow to find," Ghira said before climbing into the cabin. "You don't need to worry too much Sieg, why don't you go back to Adam and Sienna? Seems they like you," he said before shutting the door, leaving Sieg to chuckle and rub the back of his head… as yet another smack resounded throughout the temporary encampment, Adam groaning as Sieg ran up towards them.
"Sienna stop!" Sieg shouted, Adam holding his cheek as both looked at Sieg, Sienna crossing her arms as Adam just sighed.
"What, did Ghira send you to try and break it up?" Sienna asked, and Sieg just nodded in the negative.
"Given how I think everyone heard that?" Adam complained, and Sienna looked around… more than a few of the other White Fang members were staring at her, and she winced.
"You know what, come on," she muttered, heading towards the back of the caravan of trucks, Adam following, and Sieg did as well. All three of them piled into the truck at the very back of the Carvan, Sienna getting in the driver's seat as Adam sat beside her, grabbing a map as Sieg just stood outside.
"Come on, get in kid," Sienna said, opening her door and motioning for him to get behind her seat into the… very small spare space behind the seats.
"What really?" he asked, confused as to why, when Adam just chuckled.
"You might want to, else she's gonna smack you," he jested, and Sienna growled, and Sieg chuckled as well before climbing in, sliding behind Sienna's seat and standing between the pair's seats, hands on the backs of their seats as Adam started reading the map.
"So where did boss saw we were heading?" Sienna asked, turning to face him as Sieg bent down.
"North, something about rumors regarding a really big Faunus," Sieg stated, and Adam scoffed.
"Not this again?" he muttered, and Sieg just looked at Adam, confused, before Sienna elaborated.
"Adam here had the 'experience' of running into the man from Ghira's rumors two years back, before he became some big shot badass," Sienna explained.
"It's a waste of time to try and find him, let alone convince him. He was barely capable of speech, and he didn't care about anything but those two kids he had with him," Adam complained.
"Yeah, because you insulted them and got the horns for your trouble, you bull," Sienna joked, Adam groaning as he leaned back in his seat.
"Is he a bull faunus too?" Sieg asked, and Adam just turned towards him.
"Yeah, big horns, bigger than mine, that's for sure. And he's taller than some trees, and built like a damn house. How someone so big can be so… ugh," Adam muttered something under his breath before facing forward again and crossing his arms, map on his legs. "When are we going?"
"Whenever the truck in front of us starts moving Adam, don't be impatient," Sienna deadpanned… and Sieg slowly leaned forward.
"Adam… do you know this man's name?" he asked carefully, Adam looking towards him before humming.
"Yeah, Aster… something," Adam started, Sieg's eyes starting to go wide, as Sienna spoke up.
"It's Asterios you idiot,"
Sieg clutched the backs of their chairs tight at that before leaning back. Asterios… he was here. With… kids? And he'd been here for years!?
"What's up kid?" Adam asked, Sieg looking up as Sienna turned towards him.
"You look like you've seen a ghost," she stated, before looking straight ahead.
"I know that name," he stated simply, both Adam and Sienna looking between each other, before Adam shrugged, and leaned back in his chair again.
"Honestly, I'd be a bit more surprised if you didn't kid, the 'big man' is kinda a 'big deal' here," Adam said, waving one gloved hand in the air as Sienna put her hands back on the wheel.
"I think he's more talking like he's met the guy Adam, and probably had a better time of it that you," She stated, as the truck in front of them started to move. Sieg braced as Sienna stepped on the gas.
"How long are you going to hold that over me?" Adam complained as Sienna chuckled, but kept her eyes forward.
"Until you let go of there being a bigger bull than you, Adam," she joked, and Adam just groaned, pulling the map up again as Sieg looked ahead, and started to lose himself in thought.
Of all the things he'd been expecting to hear… it was not that Asterios was here… at least a few years ago. Was he even still around? So many new questions.
"By the way Sieg?" Sieg looked down at Adam, who was looking towards him. "You want a mask?"
"Don't try and get him to be part of your little group club Adam," Sienna started… and Sieg actually did think about that for a moment… A mask would be rather cool, especially if he could paint it or something.
"...Maybe,"
AN: Yep, Sieg. Just wanted to say, don't expect stories to come out completely in the 'order' I set for them. It'll shift, sometimes one will leave questions another may answer. But for now, just enjoy the ride. I appreciate your reviews, and your ideas. Also, funnily enough, someone asked for Siegfried to get a story, just as I was finishing this, so that's fun.
