Servants of Remnant
Chaldea is gone, but the memories remain. A world, filled with fairy tales, monsters and men. A history unlike any other. Sometimes… a hero is needed. From another world, from another time. Not all of them are great, not all of them are 'good'. But when the world needs a hero, these Servants answer the call. Perhaps only one, perhaps many do. These are the tales of many timelines. The 'Servants of Chaldea' who come to Remnant.
Odysseus
Odysseus had spent… probably more of the energy in his battery than he should have making sure he could sell the illusion that he was trying to cultivate. Looking weaker than he actually was would make it seem more believable that he hadn't actually let the intruders get away after all. He still didn't know who to trust yet, so better to keep his options open.
He walked back into the storage room, sparks still coming off his suit, and a bit of creative shifting here and there had managed to add a few false dings and bruises in the Aegis' plating, nothing that he couldn't force back out when he left. Snows was almost instantly on him. "By dust, what happened?" he asked, sounding somewhat concerned as Odysseus held his arm.
"The bull had a semblance that overpowered my defenses and blew a hole in the wall. They escaped while I was still recovering," he half lied, the one known as Adam had blown a hole in the wall, but he hadn't done the former part… and that was actually because he'd made extra sure to put a lot of power into the shields, and still lost half of it. He wouldn't underestimate that one again, if they fought… actually that gave him an idea, he would save it for later.
"That was a full squad of White Fang, alongside their leader Sienna Khan and one of her Lieutenants, Adam Taurus… I'm honestly surprised you managed to take that semblance with that thing, given you've only got scratches and sparks," Snows muttered.
"It ate through my battery is what it did," Odyessus muttered, letting go of his arm and slowly dismissing his helmet, making it appear as if it was folding away into the top neck part of his suit so that he could look Snows in the eye again. "But it held, a decent test run all things considered, if not the one that was intended,"
"I'll say… so this is what the stuff the Spec Ops get to play with huh?" Snows muttered, tapping the back of his hand against the arm of the Aegis before pulling away.
"It's not a toy mister Snows," Odyessus added before looking around. "Seems you have quite the storage here, a bit more than I was expecting," he lied, trying to segway into a different topic, and Snows just smiled at him.
"Well we pride ourselves here at this facility on being capable of efficiency and production of dust at an unmatched rate," he said, keeping that slightly unsettling smile, before frowning. "Of course now it seems the production rate might be going down with most of our workers turning traitor…" Snows grumbled, and Odyessus just raised an eyebrow… it seems he was missing quite a bit of the story.
"Intend to chase after the White Fang sir Snows, bring them to justice if possible, or slow down their operations. If you could provide any information you have on them, that would be appreciated," Odyessus started, and Snows perked up at that, before rubbing his hands together.
"Well then, I can give you a bit of information…. As well as something for the road, if you need it to take on the White Fang with that suit of yours," Snow offered, and Odyessus nodded. He needed more energy anyway, and Dust was going to have to be a good substitute.
"Given my current energy storage… I believe six canisters of Lightning dust should suffice, if it's not too much trouble," he asked, and Snows hummed for a second, before walking over to the previously opened crate.
"...I suppose you'll have to make due with five then, we need to make a profit after all, and with the recent attack, this is all we have left, so…" he said, motioning to the crate, and Odyessus nodded without showing anything on his face… Snows was obviously lying, the complex easily could hold far more dust, the amount of crates outside was clearly more than anyone could carry… and he was fairly sure that the White Fang was likely attacking to obtain Dust, but that was a guess at best. Likely they were going for a more… lucrative target than this tiny vault. But he wasn't about to push his luck.
"That will work, thank you Snows," Odyessus stated, taking the canisters out one at a time and twisting them open before setting them on the ground. Extending the emitters again, he started the transfer process once more, this time keeping his helmet off as he looked at Snows. "So what information can you share regarding the White Fang?"
"I have some names you will find important sir Odyessus, the other lieutenant under Sienna Khan in the area," he provided, and Odyessus nodded, motioning for Snows to continue. "There is, of course, Sienna Khan herself, who is apparently the leader of the White Fang, and has been for a year now. Under her she has three lieutenants that I know of, one of which you've had the… privilege of clashing with, Adam Taurus, a former member of our esteemed company, and there there is her… other lieutenant. A faunus who's been with the White Fang for perhaps… two years, who as far I'm aware only has one name, and a strange one at that."
That peaked his interest, perhaps it was Atalante, or Asterios even? Ivan was a possibility or perhaps- "Sieg," Odyessus had to fight to avoid wiping his head directly towards Snows for several reasons… chief of which being that Sieg seemed like the absolute last person to side with… terrorists, as far as he knew, but he hadn't even considered the Pseudo-Caster in his list. Atalante had a previous history of fighting for the Yaga, and for other individuals who needed help but resorted to violent methods. Ivan was odd, but he was still a nice enough man, if ruthless, but that had been a shot in the dark, mainly because Ivan was similar enough… he hoped, to a Faunus to counter. Asterios could have been tricked, or he genuinely had reason to fight alongside the White Fang. But Sieg!?
He kept his thoughts to himself, and hummed. "That is a strange name? Do you know what he looks like?" Odyessus asked, and Snows just shook his head.
"I don't bother myself too much with the White Fang, just what I need to know," he said, and Odyessus wasn't sure if he wanted to believe him or not. He kept coming back to that small little detail of… Sieg, being a member of a seeming terrorist organization. What in the name of Hades was that boy thinking?
...Then again, so far this 'Schnee Company' hadn't been giving him the greatest of feelings. So he would have to withhold judgement for now. But now he really needed to get on the White Fang… he had to find Sieg, so he could get answers. "Alright then," Odyessus said, the Dust transfer finishing, and he closed his suit before reforming his helmet again. "I will set out immediately."
"Well, you're quick to get on your feet aren't you," Snows muttered but nodded as Odyessus turned and started walking out the door. "Are you sure your suit will still function? I could try and arrange a transport for you," Snows offered, but he turned his head.
"Its my mission to test this weapon, and if stopping the White Fang will aid the people, and complete my mission then I'll do it," he said, mostly lying. There were likely people who needed help because of the White Fang… but it was just as likely that people needed help because of this Company as well. There was a reason they fought, and he needed answers.
Walking out into the hallway, and back towards the hole he and Adam had blown into the wall, he looked out over the trail of destruction leading out of the complex. Dust crates had clearly been stolen, and he could still see escapees crossing over the sand and heading out into the desert. He needed to give them a head start, so that they could lead him towards Sieg. Jumping out of the hole, he landed with a clang before starting to walk, looking around slowly at all the carnage left behind.
...It was mostly property damage actually. A detonated wall here, some stolen stuff there, destroyed tracks, unconscious guards, broken robots… and there was very little blood. All the guards were human, but as he was passively scanning with the Aegis… he found there actually weren't any dead guards, nor were there any dead bodies. Blood yes, but it was surprisingly clean despite the destruction. Violent, yes, but bloody it was not. The question was why. He hadn't exactly been brought up to date on modern living conditions, but at least this place was better than Sparta… okay maybe that should have been a bit of a clue that his best comparison was slaves.
Now it made a bit more sense for why Sieg might be a part of this ground. If it was just a massive slave revolt, Sieg was probably completely on board with that… but he still wasn't sure. He at least started moving unconscious guards into more comfortable positions, noting that their weapons, ammunition and even keycards had been stolen. After a few minutes of doing that, he presumed that the White Fang had reached far enough away that he could try to start trailing them, and set out after them.
Walking through the hole in the wall of the complex, and out into the desert once more, he followed the footprints, the dozens of them heading in the… hmm, south east if he wasn't mistaken by a quick peek at the sun's direction. It did make him wonder though…
He caught sight of the White Fang easily after a minute of jogging, peeking over a sandy dune to the sight of the large group all walking together, carrying weapons, pushing crates, and quite a few wearing uniforms and masks… who were far out numbered by the miners and workers who'd run away with them. Scanning the group, he caught sight of Adam near the back of the group, seemingly watching the desert… smart man. Sienna was near the front, leading the Fang, which made sense, she was the leader.
But he tried to search for Sieg, focusing mostly on the masked individuals. Most were also wearing some form of hood, but out of the around twelve masked Faunus, only one seemed to stand out. And Odysseus… really had to stop himself from face-palming.
There was Sieg, at least as far as he could tell. Same messy hair, and wearing a… very decorated mask that covered half his face, walking towards Adam, but that was just the start of it. He wasn't wearing the suit he'd seen him last… he was wearing a brand new suit that, at the very least, seemed to be in the style of his old one, but with a symbol on the suit's breast pocket, a blue circle and blue wolf head… but he was also wearing a cape that made his own look small. The high collar, and dark black cape was… odd to say the least, but once his… target had reached Adam, he'd spun around and begun talking with the faunus, continuing to walk alongside the group.
He… just ducked behind the sand dune and groaned, laying one hand on his helmet. Why was Sieg wearing a high collar cape? At least he would let them get farther before he… actually pursued them, they were still far to close to the complex for him to engage without blowing his cover.
"You know, black on sand isn't hard to spot," Odysseus pulled his hand away from his face and looked up slowly… towards Sieg, who was now standing atop the sand dune he'd been hiding behind… at least he had a smile on his face, rather than any other expression. "Adam's not happy you broke his sword by the way. It was hard for him to get that," Sieg started, offering his hand.
Odysseus hesitated, before taking up the hand, dragging himself up, and out of the corner looking back towards the faunus, Adam was clearly watching, arms crossed in annoyance while the rest of the group was still following Sienna. "Come on, better we get this over with now," Sieg said, starting to walk towards the group, and Odyessus frowned, even if his helmet hid it.
"I want some answers Sieg… namely one… how long has it been?" he asked, and Sieg just waved one hand behind him.
"For me, two years, for some, longer, now come on, or Adam's gonna have my hide," Sieg joked, and Odyessus sighed before following after the pseudo-Caster.
"Care to explain why you're running around with a rebelion?" he asked, choosing a more… nice term than many of the others he'd thought of, and still assumed this group was.
"Wasn't always one, that started a year ago. We used to just protest but… that never worked. Sienna hopes now that being at least a little violent might actually get people to listen," Sieg muttered softly, and Odyessus just sighed again as Adam spoke up when they got closer.
"Kid you'd better have a good explanation for why he's here," Adam complained, and Sieg just walked up beside him.
"He's an old friend," Sieg started, before stopping, and turning towards Odysseus… damn that mask was good at hiding his expression. "What were you even doing in there?"
"I woke up three days ago and that was the first sign of civilization I found," he muttered, eyes drifting towards Adam, who just sighed before putting one hand on his face.
"Well that's just bad luck then," Sieg said with a shrug, before looking towards Adam. "We'll get you a new sword, until then," he pulled out his sword, which was still the same as always, and handed it to Adam, who took in with a grumpy huff and rested the flat of the blade on his shoulder.
"Does he?" Odysseus started, and Sieg just chuckled.
"He does, and Sienna does, keep it quiet though," Sieg revealed, and Odyessus just had to hold back the groan. Apparently Sieg's two years on his own had… made him some interesting friends.
"Because of course it would be…" Adam grumbled before pulling out his broken blade and handing it to Sieg, who nodded and turned towards Odyessus, holding the blade out so that he was facing away from the people behind them. Blue flames enveloping the broken blade before it grew and expanded, turning into a copy of Balmung, Sieg's hand covered in a metal gauntlet as he raised the sword to rest it on his shoulder.
"Would you mind explaining a bit about… why you're doing this?" Odyessus asked, concerned, both Adam and Sieg looking between each other. Adam shrugging before Sieg shook his head.
"We'll wait until we reach somewhere Sienna can explain, then you can make the choice yourself… for now, can you just help us protect these people?" Sieg asked, and Odyessus nodded in return.
"At least he can get his priorities straight," Adam grumbled, taking a few moments to swing Sieg's sword before returning it to his resting position.
"Do you mind if I ask who else you've found?" Odyessus questioned as they followed the people, more than a few catching sight of him and the mumbling starting, confusion really.
"So far? Only Medea and Illya, but I know Asterios is… somewhere, and EMIYA's taken up a job as a Hunter according to Medea," Sieg mentioned, and Odyessus nodded.
"The elder or the younger?" he questioned, and Sieg chuckled.
"It's the younger," he offered, Adam sighing, before looking at Sieg.
"And that's… all you've found?"
"I've had important things to do Odysseus, and I can't exactly tramp across Remnant with ease. The Grimm make sure of that." Sieg revealed, and silently, he had to agree. Those monsters did seem quite tough… and that was assuming that the demonic beasts of this world were numerous enough that they'd be a significant challenge in travel.
"So what is our current destination?" Odysseus asked, and Adam spoke up this time.
"You'll find out when we get there tin man," he offered, and he just sighed in response. Of course they wouldn't trust him, even if Sieg seemed to be some sort of long time-
"INCOMING!" someone shouted, and almost instantly Adam and Sieg were off, running around the back of the crowd to where someone started shooting, Odysseus looking towards the sand and seeing a rather massive two headed snake slithering towards the group. Running after both Sieg and Adam, he caught sight of Sienna shouting for people to keep going, and running towards the pair herself.
"How many are there?" Sieg shouted, the uniformed White Fang member raising her rifle.
"I don't know, I just saw the one," she relayed, as Odysseus ran up behind the trio, the white fang girl gasping as he walked up.
"Give me a second," he offered, Sienna looking towards him with some surprise as he told the Aegis to start scanning for anything that matched or was a close match, to the Grimm rushing towards them… a second later, he had no less than seven blips on his display.
"Six more in the sand," he revealed, and Sieg huffed in affirmation, hefting Balmung with both hands as Odyessus raised his fists.
"So he really was a friend of yours?" Sienna asked, spinning his chain whip in preparation.
"Later Sienna," Adam complained, raising the sword with one hand and his sheath with the other, holding it with only one hand. "We do this first,"
"I'll handle the large one, you all deal with the others," Odyessus figured, already raising his hand.
"Hey don't order me-" Adam started, only for Sieg to speak up.
"It's better he does, that Suit packs far more of a punch than either of us are going to, I'd rather not fight a King Taijutu close to the group either," Sieg offered as Odysseus ignited his boots and launched into the air, making a diving kick towards the massive snake while the trio was still arguing.
He smashed into the white head with a great impact, cratering the snake into the sands before raising his hand, pointing two fingers at the white head and firing a laser for the skull, the snake, still reeling from his impact, getting its skull ventilated as both heads fell slack, one crushed and the other shot as the body started to dissolve away, the sand rolling around from his impact wiping into the air as he turned his head, sensors indicated that the other six targets were nearby.
One of them, some sort of shark, leapt out of the sand at him, but he simply dodged out of the way, grabbing its tail as it tried to dive back beneath the sands, and tossing the monster into the air, firing a barrage of low intensity lasers upward, filling the creatures full of holes and slaying it before it even hit the ground.
"HURAH!" Sieg shouted from somewhere outside the sand wall, Odysseus turning towards his voice as blue flames smashed through the sand wall, accompanied by a burning body of another sand shark, Sieg jumping it after the still living creature and slashing it again with Balmung, cutting it in half. A couple gunshots rang out, before a roar of pain, and moments later, Sienna burst through the sand as well, her chain between a sand shark's jaws as she was skidding along behind it. Seeing Sieg, she tugged with a grunt, changing the shark's direction as Sieg lept into the air, Odyessus just watching as he threw Balmung down as the shark was passing under him, spearing it through the mask with the sword before landing behind Sienna as the thing came to an abrupt halt, Sienna being launched forward, and grabbing the handle of Balmung as she passed by it, pulling it out of the sand herself as Odyessus just stepped out of the way, another shark launching out of the sand to try and bite at him. Sienna raised the unflaming Balmung with both hands… it was actually quite surprising she could lift it with how lithe she looked, but she certainly had some muscle.
But Odyessus just grabbed the shark by the tail and slammed it into the sand, kicking up more into the air before jamming his fist into the mask, humming when he merely cracked it, rather than shattered the mask, the shark wiping its jaws towards his arm. He pulled back, avoiding the bite, before Balmung once more cleaved through the sand… this time the handle had a chain wrapped around it, and the sword ramming into the shark, sending it flying backwards before a bullet shot into its eye.
He looked as Sienna pulled the chain back, Sieg grabbing Balmung as Adam walked away from a dissolving corpse, sheath in one hand and sword in the other. "Well, that thing's certainly got a 'kick' to it," Sienna joked before looking to Sieg, who nodded before she turned around.
"Let's just keep going, if you ain't gonna arrest us or fight us, at least help us get these people out of here," she started, and she walked.
"What do you intend to do?" he asked, stepping forward, and Sienna looked back for a second before speaking.
"We're going to a port, and then everyone gets a choice. They can stay and fight, or they can run and hide somewhere," she revealed, Adam and Sieg following after her and back towards the faunus heading southeast.
Odysseus closed his eyes, before following. He still didn't have the full story, and he needed answers… and the only ones who could provide the current ones were right in front of him and not talking… so he followed, the question currently on his mind.
What had happened? And what had he missed?
AN: I've been leaving hints here and there, but at this point it should be quite obvious. The Servants in 'Servants of Remnant' have all been appearing at different times and different places. And currently this is your only confirmation, Sieg appeared two years before Odysseus did, specificallyif one knows the RWBY timeline, he appeared before Ghira stepped down as High Leader of the White Fang, and Sienna stepped up. Currently, that means Odysseus' story begins four years before cannon starts. Hektor, who's story is happening 'first' chronologically, appeared 13 years before canon starts. I wonder how you'll figure out who appears when? that is the question. Still, its nice to hear from all of you, and to see support for my story. Take care everyone, I'll be posting again soon!
