Now that the elites had been chosen, the pressure was even harder on Crown Princess Melody Schreave to marry one of them. Her father had instructed her to begin going on single dates with each of the elites in order to asses their pros and cons. This was immensely difficult for the crown Princess because she knew that there was far more at stake than simply following her heart and marrying someone for love. Princess Melody knew damn good and well that whoever it was that she married would not only be her spouse, but the next prince or princess of Illèa and as such, she would need to choose someone who be a good ruler, especially because she knew deep down that her father was not. Naturally, Melody would never say such a thing where anyone else could hear such treasonous language, but the honest truth was that she knew better than anyone that Maxon Schreave, second of his name, was about as abusive with the citizens of Illèa as he was with his own daughter. He had been ramping up his misogyny and trying to pass anti female and anti LGBTQ legislation. Melody was in position to fight him at this time and she knew it. The only thing that she could think to do was to marry someone who would be the kind of ruler that Illèa desperately needed.
Schreave Palace. Province of Angeles. Later that day.
The very first one on one date that Princess Melody went on was with Sarah Gavalas. The two decided to take afternoon tea together. The servants had prepared raspberry tea and plenty of cakes for the couple. As they ate and drank, the Princess attempted to get to know her better.
"So Sarah, you are attending college at the University of Bankston in Kugluktuk, right?" Melody asked as the co-ed nodded.
"Yes your majesty, I'm enjoying my time at university very much." Sarah insisted as she sipped her tea.
"It must be so nice to be able to attend university, what do you think of the University of Bankston?" she asked. Sarah was quiet for a few moments before the smile returned to her face.
"Everyone who goes thinks that it's a wonderful school." Sarah replied cheerfully. The Princess noticed that Sarah had given her someone else's opinion instead of her own, but she decided to ignore it.
"These cakes that the servants prepared are so delicious, I get so excited whenever I am able to entertain guests because that means that I get to stuff myself silly with tea and cakes." Melody replied as miss Gavalas nodded eagerly.
"I agree, they are very tasty indeed." she said, repeating the opinion of her host.
"Which flavored cake is your favorite?" Melody asked as Sarah looked rather anxious for a moment before plastering her smile back on once again.
"Which is your favorite?" she asked, clearly trying to gage the reaction of the crown Princess.
"Well, the chocolate cakes are just heavenly." Melody remarked as Sarah's face brightened up.
"Those are my favorite, I love the chocolate cakes." Sarah replied almost immediately. Princess Melody was a bit put off by this, but she didn't let it show. It was clear that Sarah just went along with whatever opinions that she herself had. This continued through the entire tea time. Sarah seemed to just go with the flow and keep her own opinions, provided that she had any, to herself. Melody was of the opinion that Sarah had very low self esteem and even though it was something that she could relate to, it was not something that she wanted in a wife or that the nation needed in a princess and future Queen. The heir to the throne of Illèa smiled, drank her tea, and continued to make small talk, all the while dreading what she knew must surly come.
Schreave Palace. Province of Angeles. Later that evening.
A few hours later, after discussing the matter with her parents, Princess Melody knocked on Sarah's door.
"Hello your highness, please come in!" Sarah said gleefully.
"I can't stay Sarah, I just came to tell you that you've been eliminated." Melody explained as Sarah's face fell.
"What?" She asked, looking crestfallen.
"It's just that...you aren't confident in yourself enough and I need someone who will stand by me." Melody replied with a sad look on her face.
"Oh, all right." Sarah said with a weak smile.
"I'm sorry Sarah, your flight back to Bankston will be ready in the morning." the princess said as she walked away. Sarah closed the door slowly and a few minutes later, she tore her room asunder before falling back on the bed; screaming and crying into her pillow. The rejection that she had feared for so many years had finally come and it hurt the poor girl even worse than she imagined it would.
