Servants of Remnant

Chaldea is gone, but the memories remain. A world, filled with fairy tales, monsters and men. A history unlike any other. Sometimes… a hero is needed. From another world, from another time. Not all of them are great, not all of them are 'good'. But when the world needs a hero, these Servants answer the call. Perhaps only one, perhaps many do. These are the tales of many timelines. The 'Servants of Chaldea' who come to Remnant.

Achilles

He was tired… more than he'd ever been at Chaldea. But he pushed forward… leaning against a tree as he tried to stave it off. He had to find her… So long as there was still breath in his body, and he had the power to move, he had to protect his Master.

That was what was going through Achilles mind as the snow battered him, standing against a pine tree in the middle of Zeus knows where. His comrades… wherever they were, they still needed him.

The only thing he knew, the only thing he'd heard, was a train, off in the distance, somewhere, in the middle of this godforsaken mountain pass. Picking himself up as the snow continued to pour down on him, he trudged on forwards spear in hand. He could have sworn he was being trailed at this point… stupid monsters, he couldn't afford to waste the previous mana he had on them…

And so, he walked, head held high against the storm, even as his body tried to give out. The horn came again, and like a beacon, he turned his head towards it. It was a spark that gave him hope. Finding that train was his goal, and if he found it, he'd find… hopefully he'd find his light.

Something decided to take its chance at him however. A class ripping through the snow, Achilles didn't even bother to dodge it as the powerful claw of some sort of manticore like beast tried to rip through his armor and body… and failed completely. It stared him down, a shadow against the snow, its white mask only visible due to the contrasting black, red, and the glow of its eyes.

The eye he started directly into with as much hate as he could muster before raising his spear with but a single hand, the creature's paw still on his side, and sliced downward, tearing the claw clean off. The beast roared, before running away, Achilles noting that the paw he'd removed was starting to dissolve into black dust, before it was blown away by the winds of the snow storm. With that diversion out of the way, he kept walking. If there was only one good thing here, his heel was beneth about a foot of fricken snow, even as he trudged onwards.

Another horn sounded, this one much closer than before. Achilles kept walking… until he reached the top of a hill completely hidden by the snow. At the top, he could barely see it… black shapes, monsters, swarming a fast moving but very long train… and people fighting those very monsters.

He reared back… he had two choices… but in reality there was only one here. Its what she would have done, and it was what he was going to do. Rearing back, green lightining sparked around him for just a moment, before he leap, bursting through the snow and thrusting his spear foward.

He slammed, spear first, into a beast that reminded him of Astolfo's Hippogriff, killing it with a single stab to the skull before dropping off and onto the roof of the train. "What the hell!?" someone called, before more gunfire rang out. The turrets on the train firing away at the monsters trying to cling to it.

Achilles narrowed his eyes, and ran forward, not pushing any mana, only allowing himself to the human limits of his body. He ran towards the nearest black blob in the while, and swung his spear, slicing it clean in two, he didn't care what he'd just killed, only that it was dead as he ran towards the next, his metal greaves pounding against the roof of the train as he ripped into the next beast. Another stab, and a follow up slash, and two more fell as he held his position on the train, the snow rushing by as he breathed heavily.

"We have an ally!" Another, different voice shouted, this one female. He turned towards it.

"I'm over here!" Achilles shouted back, the sound of footsteps across the roof alerting him to their position as he ducked under another monster's attempt at a tackle before piercing it through the stomach… even doing this little was burning his mana, fast. He kept his footing steady as a young woman with auburn hair and… was that a wolf tail? She was carrying a rifle that seemed to have some sort of mechanism more advanced than Hektor's spear to switch to another form, but he wasn't sure what, given that she was still shooting away with the gun part.

"Who the heck are you?" she shouted, likely to make sure he could hear her over the speed of the train and the snow between them.

"Not important at the moment!" he shouted back, and ducked under some sort of… bone projectile being fired at him. The woman motioned towards him to come. And he ran across the roof towards her.

"Get inside you idiot, we'll handle this!" she ordered… and normally he would have argued, but given the fact he was on his last legs already, he wasn't about to argue. She pointed towards the other end of the train car, and he ran towards it, jumping through the still open hatch in the roof and landing with a thud. He panted as he stood up, looking around the train car.

There were a lot of people in it actually, with all different hair colors and a few with more… animalistic features that reminded him at Atalante. He planted his spear on the ground for a second, and stepped forward, several people giving him strange looks as he collapsed into an empty seat, panting. He clenched his fist, seething as he tried to figure out how much he had left… but teach had never taught him about magic, so he had to work this out on his own. By his best guess he had enough in him for maybe one fight without using anything but his speed, and even that was probably pushing it.

He lay across the seat, and quietly stared at the ceiling with his spear sitting beneath him on the floor… well, things could be worse. Hell they have been worse. At least here he knew he was actually fighting monsters. But he had work to do. He needed to find Rits, and the kids. Especially Jack…

Closing his eyes, Achilles took a deep breath before sighing. This was a situation he'd rather not be in. As far as he knew, he could be the only one left… but he had to push on as long as he could. If he wasn't the only one left, he needed to find the others before his body gave out.

The train rocked again as Achilles opened his eyes and looked out the window, staring at the blizzard as the sound of machine gun fire filled the air. He wondered if this was normal, no one was freaking out that much at the moment. There was some tension in the air of the train car, but it wasn't like anyone was screaming their head off… tough stuff.

With nothing else to really do but lay there, he just waited. Eventually the gunfire stopped, and he sat up, looking out towards the mountains… seems like the train had either left the storm or it had subsided. He lay his foot on his spear, rolling it for a second before grabbing it and holding it to his shoulder. Servant people started coming inside from the top of the train, including that wolf tailed woman. He just continued to sit and wait as several of the people looked at him. He merely gave a half hearted wave before they passed him by, even the lady who'd told him to get inside the train.

She didn't even acknowledge him after that, leaving him to wonder just who that lady was… but it wasn't any of his business, not at the moment. He just had to weigh his options and… try to keep his eyes open… great.

The next twenty minutes were quiet ones. Achilles watched as the mountains flew by as the train entered a valley. Looking around, he tried to spot any cameras or if anyone would be watching him… Yeah the car was full so that was out. He kinda wanted to see where this ride was heading before they actually got there and he needed to get off before the train reached whatever station it had.

Standing up, he grabbed his spear and started to move. People noticed him get up, but no one tried to stop him, so he was fine with that. He just went towards the front of the train car and went for the stairs. He knew it was a two story train, so going downstairs he turned towards his target… bingo.

He pulled open the door on the first floor, paying no heed to the people behind him, if there were any, and walked into the small threshold between the train cars, exposed to the elements. Closing the door, he quickly moved to the sit before climbing up towards the roof of the train. With barely a modicum of effort, he climbed both stories with ease before flipping onto the top of the train, landing in a crouch before standing on the rooftop, spear in hand as he looked out upon the city in the distance.

"Why am I not surprised," Achilles turned towards the voice, and there was that woman again, her upper torso poking out of the hatch and gun in one hand pointing towards him. "Thinking about getting off pal?"

"Not like I have a ticket lady," he admitted, and she sighed before climbing completely out of the hatch, shutting it with her foot and then pointing her gun back at him, the wind rushing by as she spoke up.

"That's the part I want to know. Who are you, and what on Remnant were you doing in the middle of the mountains," she started, and Achilles just rubbed the back of his head, ruffling his hair before looking out towards the open fields, the train starting to slow down as he spoke.

"Achilles… kinda lost, not sure where I am, and partially wondering what's going on," he said casually, not even concerned about the weapon pointed at him. Given this wasn't earth, it was quite likely no one had ever heard of him. Kinda hurt his fame power to be honest, but given he was already one of the best in Chaldea when barely anyone was alive anyway, didn't matter all that much.

"How the hell does one get lost like that, and what sort of name is Achilles?" she just stated bluntly, and Achilles just… stared. He knew his name was kinda outta place in the modern day… but was it completely unthinkable here? "Come on, we don't have all day," she stated impatiently, and Achilles just raised an eyebrow.

"Lady, I've got more important things to do at the moment, there's someone I need to find, and I can't do that if I stand around here waiting, I'm on a clock," he complained, turning his back to her as he heard a click.

"What are you talking about," she pressed the gun against the back of his armor, and he just turned his head to her.

"My duty to a friend I've lost and need to find," he said, just as the train was pulling around the next mountain. He bent his legs, and then raised his head, a dark feeling settling over him as he turned towards the ocean that had just come into view.

"What the hell are you-" the lady started before turning her head to follow his gaze, and gasping as Achilles stood up straight again, looking out towards the sea as the massive monster was emerging from the water… walking along the sea bed most likely and towards a bunch of metal pillars that rose out of the water.

"Big one ain't it, sorry, but duty calls," Achilles started, and looked towards the cliff behind him, and how it went around… and there was one of the pillars. Right, this could work but it would really burn him out.

"Hey wait don't even!" she started as Achilles turned on his foot and lept towards the cliff… and started running, the wolf-tailed woman left watching as he became a blur along the cliff face, before leaping off it like a bolt of lightning and landing on top of one of the pillars, before continuing his leaps down the circle as the pillars started to spring to life. A blue barrier springing up between the different pillars to form a full circle around the port city that had just come into view. The monster had a whole bunch of large black birds flying after it… he wasn't sure about the wall's strength, but for the moment, he knew what the actual target was. That flock of birds was going to head right over that wall and straight towards the city.

He kept leaping until he landed on the pillar that was dam near in the direct path of the sea monster. He took a deep breath… he'd burned quite a bit of mana just to get to this point. And now he had a battle to fight, and a city to defend. Spinning his spear, he got into a defensive stance and waited. He wanted them to come to him.

And come to him they did. In fact, it was like the moment he was even noticed, a lot of the flock started heading directly towards him, even the sea monster changing its path so that he was directly in the way… the leader of the flock swooped down towards him… and Achilles smirked… and just as it opened its beak, trying to bite down on him… he swung, cleaving the thing clean in two, the bird starting to dissolve into black dust behind him as he kept on swinging, birds starting to dive down on him rapidly, but he cut them down just as fast. His real concern was the sea monster. Even as black dust filled the air, he continued to keep his eyes directly on the big one, behind him he could hear engines firing up.

He turned his attention away for just a second to see some sort of military base built into the rocks out at sea. Strange planes taking off from their little ports and starting to fly towards him as Achilles decided to make his move. Cutting down probably the fiftieth bird, he leaped, bouncing off and planting his spear into every one he could, before landing on the back of the massive monster. Overhead, guns started firing into the flock of birds as the monster tired to spin its limbs around to get at him. Just as he was stabbing his spear directly into the beast's back, he had to dodge around, spinning on his implanted spear and barely catching sight of what seemed to be a massive mech moving out of the island closest to the barrier, walking through the water towards the monster he was currently fighting. The monster raised its head as he ripped through its back and landing on its neck, balancing himself carefully the damn thing roared before spewing… was that electrical fire?

He watched for a second in confusion before large spray of cannon fire came from the massive mech. The monster roared and started to turn around, Achilles groaning before gripping his spear and running up the creature's head, flipping off of it and coming eye to eye with the beast for but a moment… before kicking straight off its head.

The beast reared back in pain as Achilles flipped through the air, having completely changed his momentum from falling to pretty much flying within an instant. He soared through the air and landed on another one of the large birds, shoving his spear into its neck and causing it to squawk in pain before starting to effectively drive it towards the city. He grit his teeth as he shoved his spear completely through the beast's neck and jumped off as it died behind him, bracing himself as he landed on a building's roof with a large impact…

Dust went everywhere as he crashed through the rooftop and into someone's living room. He groaned… laying on a couch in pain and slowly raising his head. He coughed for a second and seethed… yeah, that had pretty much drained him near dry. As the dust settled… he saw a young woman and her child, bright with burning red hair, the woman wearing glasses and clutching her child as he slowly dragged himself up off the couch.

"Sorry about that… had a bit of a rough landing…" he muttered, getting up and nearly stumbling forward a bit from the disorientation. "I'll be going," he muttered, slowly walking towards the door as both the woman and her child just watched him. Quite bright eyes they had, vibrant green. Reminded him of her…

Grabbing the handle, he turned it and pushed the door open, walking into the next room, and briefly catching sight of a television… huh, the battle was being broadcast… Oh shit the battle was being broadcast. Slowly he turned around to look towards the woman and her child, then back at the television as the giant sea monster was fleeing from the giant mech. "...Uh…"

"How are you still…? How are you even?" The woman started muttering, ah, so she was probably in a bit of shock as well as scared. The little girl was scared as well, but looking towards her eyes… seemed there was a bit of awe in them as well.

"I'm a hero, fighting monsters is what I do, and I'm not about to stop until this invincible body of mine lies still forever," he boasted, only a small smirk on his face, and he knew it was still true. He didn't have a scratch on him, he was just a bit tired and… really, really low at this point… shit had he gone overboard?

"An invincible hero?" The little girl asked, still clutching her mother's arm as Achilles nodded, and rested his spear on his shoulder, letting go of the door handle.

"That's what I, Achilles, am. Sorry about the roof… but duty calls," he said with a small smile, before walking through the living room and through the house until he reached the next door in a small hallway, unlocking it and then walking through it, he stepped out into another hallway and closed the door behind him. Sighing… he'd probably given those two the scare of their life… actually he recalled something, hadn't red said something about falling through a roof when he was summoned in a Grail War?

Whatever, that wasn't important now. He walked down the hallway, towards the stairs, leaning against the wall as he tried to keep his eyes open. His mind still worked, his body was unharmed, but this stupid, stupid mana problem was really getting to him!

Reaching the stairs, he slowly descended them… something was wrong… Before, out in the wilderness, he at least was getting some mana just from what was in the air… now he wasn't feeling a damn thing… all the damn mana just wasn't there!

He didn't know why, but this was bad. He needed to get out of this city, fast. Why the hell was all the mana gone!? The only reason it should have been gone if it was so plentiful everywhere else was…

He stopped about halfway down the stairs… there were other Servants here, and one of them was probably a massive mana eater like him. He ran through the list in his head, trying to check who could be doing this… Ivan, Gawain, Lu Bu, Lancelot, Jason if he was being an idiot or even the big goddess… it couldn't be the Berserkers because the town was still here, he hadn't even sensed any other Servants yet, who the hell was eating all mana!?

This was too much to think about, and he didn't have the time. He climbed down the remaining stairs, stumbled out into the street and started walking for the walls, up the hill as fast as he could without spending any more mana. A streetcar drove by as he did so, and after a minute he reached the top of the hill, panting before stumbling into an alleyway… and then he felt it.

Gods dammit, he felt like laughing… he felt two Servants, the presence of one of them he could never mistake anywhere else. He fell to his knees and dropped his spear as he heard both sets of footsteps.

"..I'm sorry for the surprise call, but I wanted to inform you of what I just witnessed," that smooth voice of that king of criminals. The other servant was hanging back in the street as Achilles flipped over, leaning against the wall as he looked towards James Moriarty, currently holding some sort of phone device and wearing mostly green and a stupid bowler hat. "I found Achilles… or rather he's dying," James walked towards him as he finally heard the voice on the other end of the phone… Hektor.

"James what the hell!" the muffled voice of his enemy and one time ally shouted.

Almost instantly, Achilles just jumped to his feet, grabbing for the phone, Moriarty nearly dropping it in the short scuffle before letting him have it as before falling to his knees, a smile on his face as he held his chest with the other hand, phone raised to his ear. "Hektor, that you?"

"It's me, what's going on?" Hektor started, instantly serious… Achilles chuckled, lazy ass Lancer, funny, he was dying and that's what got Hektor to act serious?

"I pushed my luck to far, that's what…" he seethed for a second, and then continued as James got down on his knees beside him, holding him, up. "Didn't realize how much I'd been spending," he coughed for a second… he had maybe enough for one more thing, James looked out towards the street as Achilles looked towards the ground. "I'm not going to last for much longer… but I gotta ask you something," he paused, and slowly smiled at the thought of all the good times that had been shared between him and the Master… times he would just have to try and keep hold of when he passed on… dammit, he didn't want to die like this. "Find her… will ya? Tell her I'm sorry, when you do."

"Just hang on you idiot," James grumbled loudly. "Get over here darn it!" he ordered someone else, Achilles not raising his head as light footsteps entered the alleyway.

"I know when I'm spent professor… she can't sustain me any longer, whatever condition she's in…" he muttered, before holding his hand out. If he was going to die… he was going to leave behind something that would serve her well… he summoned his shield, Akhilleus Kosmos, and coughed again as Moriarty tried to sit him up, even as his shield clattered to the ground.

"Stop spending your fucking mana you idiot," Hektor seethed at him over the phone… and he laughed. Worried about him that much was he? He couldn't see much anymore. His body already wanted to close his eyes… the only thing he saw before they closed was a small flash of red coming towards him…

"I'm already dying Hektor… just wanted to make sure I leave something behind… good luck you two…" he muttered finally, James' pleas going silent as he drifted away finally… he didn't want to go out like this…

What a way for a so called hero's story to end wasn't it?

Moriarty

He'd heard the click of the scroll almost as soon as he'd shouted at Achilles to keep his damn eyes open. "Chloe, what is taking you so long!" He shouted at her, the young archer he'd come here with, his assistant essentially, having finally entered the alleyway and was coming towards them.

"Seemed you three were having a touching moment weren't you?" she said quietly and looked down towards the shield and spear that lay on the ground near the unconscious achilles. He wasn't fading just yet, but if they didn't get him any mana in the next minute or so that was going to change very quickly… then he'd be well beyond saving.

"Touching moment or not, I don't care. Transfer what you can to him!" he ordered at her, and Chloe closed her eyes.

"You know we're both running low here because of that thing right?" Chloe muttered, referring to the other Servant that resided in Argus… one Moriarty still hoped to avoid.

"I know, but if we don't get him out of here alive, we'll have lost an ally we can't afford to. Just do it, and I'll carry him." he ordered, Chloe groaning, but walking up to Achilles, quietly contemplating for a moment… before giving the Rider a kiss. Normally it was her method of stealing energy, but for the moment, she needed to grant it.

As soon as she did so, pulling away from Achilles, he lifted the Rider over his shoulders, carrying him completely haphazardly, Chloe picking up his shield with both hands, struggling slightly… the spear would have to be left behind. But his life was worth far more than that spear.

Turning towards Chloe to speak he briefly saw a flash of red at the edge of the alleyway, someone ducking away… he'd calculated where Achilles had fell, and it seems he'd left quite the impression. But there was no time, he took off at a run, out into the street as Chloe followed behind. The Grimm attack had left most people still hiding in their homes, providing the perfect cover for an escape… the Argus Limited was out, but if they could just reach the car, they could get out of here.

He sped up, expending some of his own precious resources as Achilles' armor clattered against his back, Chloe leaping after him as he turned to corner to look at his car. Fishing in his pocket for a second, he paused, and then went for the scroll still clutched in Achilles' hand, tapping the screen and using that to unlock the car's doors and force the trunk to rise. Chloe went around the back and shoved his shield in the trunk before climbing over the back seat as he put Achilles in the seat beside her, buckling him in before quickly getting in the front, Chloe at least nice enough to give him another kiss before he started the car.

Chloe had far more to spend than he did, the little serial kisser had been quite active in maintaining her mana supply, and much to their benefit, it would hopefully keep their Rider alive. He stepped on the gas, the car taking off down the street as he made for the gates. He knew the radius, they had maybe a mile before they were out of range of their biggest problem… Sherlock.

He didn't know how, he didn't know why, and that was what scared him. But he knew, oh he knew, Sherlock was in Argus, and something he was doing was draining the mana inside the city. Either his own self sustainment… or perhaps something else. But that damn 'Ruler' was here, and they needed to get out of Argus. Driving up to the wall, where the gates were closed, he quickly pulled up his scroll in his free hand. The normal guard wasn't there, it was empty at the moment, but nothing a quick bit of code he'd put in couldn't handle.

Tapping his scroll and opening up one of his various programs, he forced the gate to open and then close after twenty seconds, more than enough time to drive through the gate and get out onto the open road. It quickly got far bumpier, but he could feel the mana returning, slowly, and Chloe tapped the back to seat.

"Green's breathing again," she said quickly, and he nodded in approval, before stepping on the gas pedal. They had places to be after all. And if they wanted to have any chance of Achilles waking up again… they were going to need to find their Master. Someday. But for now… he'd take the small victory of an unconscious Servant, even if it wasn't the greatest idea.

At least he'd passed off his shield to them… and they'd left behind his spear… hopefully that stayed out of Sherlock's hands… but he had a feeling they'd be seeing it again. Someday. But for now, he just drove on, Chloe settling into the backseat and turning on the radio as Achilles slumbered in blissful unconsciousness. It wasn't ideal, but it was a boon.

AN: Good god, I'm sorry at how late this is. But after the last Chapter, college decided to ramp up, and so did life. So I only just completed this today. But yes everyone, Achilles is actually alive, but he might as well be out. The mystery thickens... and before any asks, yes that was a young Pyrrha and her mom that Achilles crashed into, just like how Archer crashed into Rin's house. I'm sure that spear won't be important at all ;).
Again, I'm so sorry that I wasn't able to update as quickly as I normally do, but I had a lot on my hands, and will do so for the next two weeks perhaps. I'll try and get chapters out where I can, but once summer starts, expect a rapid pace up agian. Take care everyone, I hope to see what you have to say!
