Mythra was quickly pacing in circles in her bedroom. She had a conundrum. Ever since she and Pyra had been split, she was determined to be the best big sister she could be. That came with some wrinkles though as her experience was lacking.
She wanted to be a good sister, great even, but her guarded personality tended to get in the way. What was an Aegis to do? For the first time in a long time, she did not really have a purpose so she was somewhat struggling with how to handle normal life for herself, let alone making others feel better.
At times, it felt like Pyra did not need her anymore. The redhead seemed infinitely more adjusted than her in Mythra's own eyes. She and Rex made an adorable couple, and while they were not married yet, Pyra was essentially already a doting wife and homemaker. It was a role she slid into remarkably well and seemed to enjoy. Pyra much preferred helping out without fighting, and the villagers all seemed to love her.
They did not dislike her, but at the same time, seeing Mythra did not put a smile on their faces the same way seeing Pyra did. So, what did Mythra do for the one that seemed much better put together than her? She was living a functional, happy life where everyone seemed to love her while Mythra, well, Mythra spent most of every day lazing around not sure what to do with herself.
Well, that ended today, Mythra decided. She was going to get up off the couch and do something for her sis. She did have something of an idea at least as to what to do first. She wanted it to be big, flashy, and suitably grand for her sister.
See, most blades did not celebrate a birthday exactly. Few knew when they were actually made, and if they celebrated, it was the day of their awakening which for all practical intents and purposes was their birthday anyway. Pyra was a bit different. Up until recently, she had never really been awakened, however, Mythra remembered exactly what day she had been made. It was a day permanently etched into her memory for more bad reasons than good. Still, she had a date to go off of at least.
The rest would take a little more work. Not to mention secrecy to keep it hidden from Pyra. The easiest part was sending out the invitations. All she had to do was handle the mail one day and done. Decorating was going to be a bit harder. She was going to have to get Pyra out of the house for a decent amount of time. In the meantime, she focused on stockpiling decorations.
The cake…she would buy a cake. Most of her plans were coming along nicely save for one thing: a present. Again, Pyra was one of the least likely to ask for anything people she knew. She never asked for anything, and usually made do with what she had. How did you buy for someone like that? Mythra did not know, and as the date approached, she was woefully empty-handed.
All the same, when the day arrived, Mythra gave it her all. With a few of their friends arriving early, they were able to distract Rex and Pyra while Mythra had any latecomers help her set up. Fortunately, she was pretty fast so setting up did not take all that long even with her inexperience.
Mythra was done with time to spare, but she still had no gift. Even as the colorfully wrapped packages started piling up, Mythra still had nothing. Not that she had time to worry about that now. Pyra was almost back. She was out of time.
Sure enough, the door creaked open signifying that Mythra had failed on that front. All the same, she gave her all to the quite thunderous, "Happy Birthday!"
Pyra's mouth hung agape in a shocked expression that made Mythra feel that this was definitely worth it. She struggled to find her words, repeatedly failing to get a sentence out before Mythra came in for the save.
"Do you like it?" Mythra asked with a smirk, but she was secretly nervous.
"It's…it's wonderful!" Pyra hugged her sister, "I had forgotten about this."
"I could never forget this day."
"Oh," Pyra pulled away, "I know it must not be a happy day for you. I'm sorry."
"No," Mythra shook her head, "I mean, yes, it was a horrible day for the most part, but I can't call it a completely bad day. It was the day I got a sister."
"Mythra," Pyra sniffed, "Do you really mean that?"
"Of course I do, and I'm sorry if I've made you think I don't care. I know it wasn't easy for you then either, and I'm sorry for what I put you through. That said, no matter how awful that day was, there was at least one bright spot."
"Oh, Mythra," Pyra leaned in for another hug.
"Don't get too sappy now,"Mythra pulled her sister off her, "I kinda couldn't find a gift to get you. Sorry. I really tried, but I couldn't find anything I thought you'd want."
"That's fine," Pyra reassured the blonde, "This is more than I could ever ask for."
"Thanks, but would it kill you to ask for a bit more?" Mythra smirked, but nonetheless, if Pyra was happy, then so was she.
A/N: Okay, that may be it for the one shots for now. Not sure about a bigger story. For one, I found employment (even if the temp job didn't really pan out). While that means money, that also means less time to write. If I did do another bigger story, which would you want to see?
Also, the Pyra and Mythra figures went on pre order again...but they're really expensive. Instead, I bought amiibos. Can just wait for their amiibo(s) and get figures for a fraction of the price I guess. Maybe if they reprint them again down the road I'll get them.
