Chapter 4

After viewing a house down the road, Rachel had put an offer in hoping to get it, a simple 3 bedroomed semi-detached house perfect for what she needed and a smaller cost than the one they had in Manchester. Rachel had also applied for quite a few jobs, hoping to hear back from at least one. She sighed as she sat on the sofa downstairs in Kim's house, she just wanted to get stuck in. Truth be told, she was in her pyjamas, she'd become a little lazy but she was happy.

It wasn't until her 3rd coffee of that day whilst watching loose women on TV that she refreshed her emails for the first time that day. After sorting through the junk she came across a different type, she opened it and read it to herself.

Dear Rachel Mason

As Rachel read it, she made a mental note to inform people she had changed her name back and to change it on her social media platforms.

We are writing to let you know that you have been shortlisted for the role of headteacher at Waterloo Road Academy. We would like to invite you to an interview day at the school where you will be going against our other final candidates.

Please prepare a short presentation lasting no longer than 3 minutes about how you would impact on changing the school and why being headteacher is important to you. You will also be interviewed by a panel of pupils and a panel of governors and teachers.

We have two jobs to fill at this academy at this time, one as headteacher and one as deputy. Please note that this interview day could lead to a job as a deputy instead of a headteacher, if this is not okay please indicate this on arrival.

We have attached the details for the day including what is necessary and the timetable. We look forward to meeting you.

Yours sincerely,

Laura Willow

Admin assistant to Micheal Willow – CEO of Willows Academy Trust

A smile appeared on Rachel's face, she was excited but nervous, instantly, Rachel being Rachel she began her work on her three minute presentation for next week.

As four o'clock came and went, she knew the house would get loud again so she finished up, closed her laptop and began making dinner for tonight, a thing she had done every so often as a thank you, her famous lasagne went down a hit with everyone.

"Evening" Kim said as she walked through the front door juggling a baby and her bag. After getting herself sorted and the kids settled she walked through to Rachel. "Good day?"

"Could say that" Rachel smiled

"Go on tell me" Kim said arms folded leaning against the side.

"Ive got an interview at Waterloo road"

"Ahhh really? That's exciting! Wait the interview day?" Kim asked

"Yeah"

"I'm on the panel of governors with Andrew…your being interviewed by us"

Rachel chuckled "well that's good at least, who are the other candidates?"

"We don't know until the day unfortunately when we're given a list"

Rachel nodded "it is exciting though"

"It is, it will be amazing to work with you again"

"And Andrew doesn't mind?" Rachel asked

"He hasn't been shortlisted, it's not a problem, his got another placement the week after the new head joins at a private school"

"Oh nice, I don't think I could do private" Rachel chuckled

"You never know what the path of life gives you"

"You got that right"
