Chapter 5
The day of the interview came. Rachel woke up bright and early, she jumped in the shower and came back putting her suit of tailored skirt, shirt and jacket, partnered with her high heels. Her hair was down to her shoulder straightened, with a light application of make up.
She walked downstairs and went into the kitchen where she helped herself to some fruit.
"And she's back" Kim smiled entering the room holding her baby.
Rachel blushed slightly "she is, and you know I'm in it to win this job, I want it back so much"
"You've got this"
"I'm going the long way to school as I want to freshen my mind and practice my presentation so I'll see you at school" Rachel smiled. She picked up her bag and keys and went out to her car. The signing of the papers was been done tomorrow for her house, and if she got the job today she would be over the moon and happy to start her new life.
After spending a good half an hour going the long way to the school, Rachel eventually pulled up and went over her presentation one more time.
After going through it for the last time, she checked herself out in her mirror making sure her make up had not rubbed off and smiled. She got out the car grabbing her bag and locking up as she made her way to the building signing in at reception.
After being told to sit and wait, as of course Rachel was early she scrolled through her phone seeing a text from Chris saying good luck and another one from Kim, she was about to read another text when a spoken voice interrupted her.
"Edward Lawson" he said to the receptionist.
Rachel froze on her chair briefly looking up. One of the candidates was him, Mr Eddie Lawson, Rachel's fling, her sisters baby daddy.
After being told the same, Eddie sat three chairs away from Rachel not noticing her.
"Rachel Mason" a voice called.
"Yes that's me" Rachel smiled rising from her seat and shaking the hand of the person opposite.
It was then that Eddie looked up gobsmacked, interrupted by the LA board member calling his name. He also got up shook her hand and stood by Rachel.
"And Michael Byrne"
He also smiled and said hello in his thick Scottish accent and shook her hand.
Rachel was not going to let him get to her today. She held her head high, taking pride in the fact that she was the only female short listed.
After a morning of the presentations and interviews with pupils, lunchtime had arrived. They were all lead to the canteen where they could enjoy a break.
Kim made a subtle nod to Rachel making her smile as Rachel got her food and sat down at an empty table. Eddie then joined opposite her. Kim looked over and mouthed "sorry"
Rachel ignored Eddie, picking up her phone and texting Kim
You weren't to know, proper awkward! X
Kim felt her phone vibrate and looked at it and chuckled to herself.
Just be civil, he still fathered your niece, and come on you still find him hot x
Rachel chuckled out loud reading the text.
"Rach" Eddie finally said. The two locked eyes as Rachel put her phone down.
She loved it when he called her rach, it just sounded so sexy and like she belonged to him.
"It's Rachel" she corrected. It was true, he was technically her brother-in-law although she wasn't 100% sure if Melissa and him had actually got married in the end. His face was still as beautiful as before and Rachel could feel him melting and gravitating towards him and she had to stop knowing he was the competition.
"Sorry, Rachel" Eddie corrected "long time no see"
"Well I've been enjoying married life" Rachel said. It hit a nerve, Eddie was taken back not expecting that.
"Oh I see, I feel we should chat and have a catch up maybe over a drink?"
"I don't think so Eddie, it's not a good idea" Rachel said finishing her last bite of her sandwich and standing up putting the rubbish in the bin and exiting the hall just after Kim.
Eddie was left at the table on his own just sighing out loud, he hated the fact he left Rachel when he did, but he knew she would move on, Mel never shared any details about Rachel keeping that information away from him so he didn't miss her, it was of course lucky she was here today, but he knows deep down that Rachel is safe and happy and that's all that matters. Getting up, he had quickly lost his appetite, putting the rest of his dinner in the bin and finding a space where he could just be silent for 5 minutes.
Please review, they do mean a lot.
