Chapter 12

It was later in the day, Rachel was unable to focus on her work and decided as she was nearly up to date she would start looking through her post. Two of the letters were bills, one was an advert for the local curry house and the other was the larger envelope of the four. She opened it laying the wad of paper on the desk.

'Application for Decree Nisi'

Rachel sighed on top of everything else, she forgot about this coming through, she began to read through the paper work that Adam's lawyer had sent her.

About half an hour later, Rachel had popped to the loo whilst still working through the paper work. Eddie had walked into the office hoping to speak to Rachel.

"She's just popped the loo, if you wait in there she won't be long" Janeece said

Eddie nodded "Not long now until maternity eh?" He smiled

"no and I can't wait, week and half to go" Janeece smiled "ankles are killing this baby needs to come out now"

Eddie nodded "yeah I bet" he smiled walking into the office and over to the sofa, he saw the paper work on the desk and Eddie being Eddie went for a nosy. He picked up the papers she had signed and began to look through them.

A couple of minutes later Rachel returned to see Eddie flicking through the papers at her desk.

"Can I help you?" Rachel asked sternly marching over to her desk taking the papers out of his hands "that's nothing to do with you" she said putting the papers together and turning them over.

Eddie looked at Rachel and walked to the door

"No come on you were here for a reason" Rachel snapped.

Eddie closed the door and turned around on his heel "I came to see if you were okay, as you looked pale this morning, and didn't seem yourself" Eddie said harshly.

Rachel closed her eyes and sat down at her desk. She put her head in her hands, keeping her eyes closed and took deep breaths as the familiar feeling of nausea returned.

Eddie moved into the middle of the room "And to top it off you've lied to me from day one, that is an application for a decree nisi, a divorce, I know what they are Rachel as me and Alison went through the same, you and Adam are getting a divorce and you didn't think to tell us"

Rachel opened her eyes and watched Eddie rant as he walked around the room, she kept her hands firmly covering her mouth.

"We could of helped you, we could have been there for you, you've gone through all this on your own! You've only been living here two months and your already divorcing, wow that happened quick"

"HE DIDN'T MOVE HERE" Rachel screamed at him. Rachel calmed down trying to take deep breaths, she closed her eyes once more. For that moment silence came upon the room. Eddie was calming down.

"what do you mean? You said you were married"

At that moment, Rachel let the nausea just overtake her as she thought it would make her feel better. Grabbing the bin by her desk she leaned to the side and threw up into it. It was the first time she was sick, but with the stress of today and the amount of thoughts it was just easier to let her body just do what it needed. Eddie stood by not knowing what to do.

"We are technically" Rachel said grabbing a tissue and wiping her mouth and then sitting up

"Are you okay?" Eddie asked.

"Yeah, I'm just not feeling great today, I know there's a bug going round" Rachel lied convincingly

"Maybe you should go home"

"No I'm fine honest" Rachel said. "Bare with me" Rachel tied the bin up and took it out to the main bin in the bigger office "can you get the cleaner to empty that quickly please, I'm not feeling hundred percent today, and you wont want that in your office" Rachel chuckled to janeece who got onto the phone quickly.

Rachel walked back into the office closing the door and straightening herself out going over and sitting on the sofa, signalling for Eddie to sit on the sofa too.

"Rach, we slept together, did that mean nothing?" Eddie asked calmly.

Rachel bit her lip thinking about the item currently growing in her womb. "It's not that, please Eddie its not you, you have to understand it from my perspective, its trust" Rachel admitted finally looking at him sipping from her water bottle.

"What do you mean trust?" Eddie asked

"When we broke up, it broke me, mentally, physically, I just needed something, someone else, Adam came along and I just went with it. You ran off with my sister"

"And that is my biggest regret"

"I know" Rachel said placing a hand on his thigh "Eddie, you ran off, changed your number and actually we never ended it, you just disappeared. I can't have it happen again, I cried for weeks, Eddie I love you so much, I really want you back, but I can't do it"

"Oh rach, I'm sorry, I love you too, you are my true love"

"I can't Eddie" Rachel said letting tears fall and looking away "I said I was married so you would stop flirting, I can't resist your charm, but you broke me"

Eddie closed his eyes fighting his own tears back. He got up moving and put an arm around Rachel holding her in tightly. Rachel took a deep breath in inhaling his scent, she snuggled in closer. Eddie kissed her head letting her cry "I'm sorry" he whispered to her.

"I wanted a fresh start a new life away from my old life just a new hot bloke I can shag every other night" Rachel chuckled sitting up.

"I mean I'm up for that" Eddie said seriously.

Rachel playfully hit him "I know you would be" she said leaning back on the sofa creating a gap between her and Eddie. A silence fell upon them. "I don't think I'm ready to date yet Eddie, can you give me time?"

Eddie nodded "we can start afresh? Have a date nights and take things slow?"

"You would do that?"

"I'd do anything to get to call you my girlfriend again"

"You soft bugger" Rachel giggled "alright then, slowly, please"

"Of course" he said pecking her cheek.

"I'm sorry I lied to you, but I just wasn't ready, Adam is back in manchester living it up with his new partner and baby"

"oh wow, that explains a lot then, you doing okay?"

"House is a bit quiet but that's about all" Rachel said still not building the guts to tell him after it wasn't sinking in properly for herself.

"well lets hope we can make this work for us both"

"yeah definitely"
