Chapter 13

A few days later and the Monday had arrived, a new week. Of course, Rachel had been working all weekend having nothing else better to do. As normal she woke up, showered and changed and made her way to work. Similar to the weeks previous, this morning was no different, the sickness feeling was there and she just tried to ignore it and carry on.

Walking up to the office she was met with Eddie on the way.

"you didn't phone me this weekend" Eddie said

"Sorry, I was working"

"Working? Can the emails not wait?"

"When have you ever known me leave emails" Rachel chuckled

"Good point, still need to have me time" Eddie said

"i know, were just not doing the dating thing yet are we?"

"I thought we were"

"Oh right, sorry then" Rachel added as they both reached the office and went in. Kim was sat there with Ben already.

"Kim? Ben?"

"Morning, I'm sorry its not a great start to a monday, ben stayed at mine last night" Kim said.

"Ben I said you could phone me, whats happened?"

"Dad was taken into custody last week"

"What?! Why?!" Rachel said concerned.

"His been found guilty of murdering someone, that's why he happened to be around, I'm so scared auntie rach and I'm so sorry, he said I couldn't tell anyone"

"Oh Ben, its alright, first your mum, now your dad, im not taking no for an answer your staying with me" Rachel said hugging him.

"It explains the items we discussed last week" Kim said.

Rachel nodded "I feel like I've let you down"

"No not at all auntie rach, my parents have, im so sorry for not believing in you"

"Oh don't worry, your with me now, thankyou for looking after him last night" Rachel motioned to kim.

"No worries anytime, you know me, I got a call from the safeguarding officer last night and we needed to sort it"

"You should of rung me Kim"

"Well I didn't, but his safe his fine" Kim said

Rachel nodded knowing she was right

"I promise you won't even notice me" he smiled

"Oh shush, your more than welcome to stay at mine okay" Rachel smiled hugging him "now go on, off to the library for a bit yeah, come back here at three" Rachel said letting him go.

"Thanks rach" he smiled and walked out the office.

"One thing you need to know" Kim started "Ben's depression has got worse understandably, but were gonna have regular sessions and if needs be get the doctor and counsellor involved, we can support him"

Rachel sighed Eddie interrupted "I could kill Mel for this, its so unfair on the lad"

"Kim can you help me apply for adoption, Melissa is aware I'm doing so, I don't want his parents anywhere near him"

"Of course I can, I'll even give you a reference"

"I would but I cant because of my history with Mel" Eddie sighed

"I know" Rachel sighed "I can do this can't i"

"Of course you can your Rachel mason, you can do anything" Eddie smiled.

"Right back to today" Rachel nodded at Eddie ignoring his flirty advances. "The trust have been speaking to me over the weekend about a proposal for a new building I said it wasn't necessary but there insisting, they also want to re-paint the entirety of the school" Rachel said standing and moving all her things to the desk.

"What are they proposing to do with the new building?"

"Make it into a community hub for adult learning and possibility for college status"

"That's a good thing" Kim reassured

"It is but a lot of hard work, were still in discussion but any ideas please let me have them"
