Chapter 16

The Saturday morning arrived. The sun peeped through the gap in the window, projecting a small yellow line onto Rachel's bed. Rachel had moved in the night and an arm had draped over Eddie's stomach and her head leaning on his arm still sound asleep. It was Eddie who woke up first moving gently not wanting to disturb Rachel knowing she needed her rest. He gently moved his arm so Rachel was resting her head on his chest and put his arm around Rachel holding her. His other hand found her hand that was draped on his stomach and he held her.

Eddie was smiling like a Cheshire Cat, as he watched her sleep, he was so happy and so comfortable and he knew Rachel would be too, after all this time they had finally got to this stage.

"Are you watching me sleep Lawson?" The voice from below said as she opened her eyes slowly.

"Would I do such a thing?" He smiled "good morning"

"Oh I wouldn't say that" Rachel groaned as she sat up slowly. Eddie dropping his arms and moving the arm closest to Rachel to her arm and holding her hand squeezing it.

"What happened?"

"Oh you don't want to know, but we need to change the sheets in a bit" Rachel sighed "and the pain was excruciating"

Eddie nodded and squeezed her hand in reassurance "I'm happy to go to the chemist if you need anything?"

"No I'm pretty well stocked, just wasn't expecting to use half a pack in one night" Rachel sighed "just taking painkillers regularly, I know it will settle down I'm just tired, I feel sick and I feel like my insides are falling out"

Eddie nodded and pulled her in gently for a hug as he dropped their hands "I'm sorry I can't do anything to ease the pain" he said as he held her. Rachel melted into his arms enjoying the embrace and loving this Eddie. Rachel was happy, she felt safe in his arms.

They were enjoying the moment when a knock on the door interrupted them. "Rach" Ben wined.

"Kids" Rachel shook her head smiling at Eddie as they broke off "what is it? You can come in?" Rachel asked making sure the covers were over them both.

Ben swung the door open and stepped in "Eddie?" He asked "I didn't know you stopped here"

"I did, to make sure Rach was okay"

"Are you two like going out then?" He asked confused

Rachel looked at Eddie and Eddie looked at Rachel "Sort of" They both said in sync, making ben confused even more.

"Anyway, Ben what is it?" Rachel asked

"I'm sorry if I disturbed you" he said coming and sitting on the end of the bed with one of his exercise books.

"It's fine" Rachel smiled not knowing how ben was so polite even after being brought up by Melissa. She could see a lot of Phil in him. "Now what is it?"

"Well I've had breakfast of cereals and wanted to get on with my homework get it out the way, but I'm stuck"

Rachel smiled "Well I wish every student was like you, which subject?"

"Maths" He laughed looking at Rachel.

"This ones yours" Rachel chuckled at Eddie.

Eddie laughed "Tell you what give me five minutes to get up and dressed and then I'll come downstairs and help you where your getting stuck, but I'm not doing it for you"

"Thankyou" ben smiled and left the room closing the door behind him.

"That's your influence" Eddie smiled "His such a polite kid, how Mel treated him was appalling"

Rachel blushed a little "He has become a lot better since he moved out" Rachel thought for a moment.

"What are you thinking?" Eddie asked

"Well I don't know if it's a bit forward" Rachel started and looked at him directly.

"What do you mean?"

"I really enjoyed sharing a bed with you last night, just having your warmth next to me, just helped me to relax when I could"

"Me too, it was so nice to share a bed again" Eddie smiled.

"Well maybe we should take it slow, how about every weekend you move in to begin with, Ben idleises you and I really think you being here is having an impact on him, he seems so happy when he sees you and me together"

Eddie nodded "We can do that, I just don't want you to feel rushed"

"I did, but after last night I feel secure…but you promise me you won't turn your back on us"

"Why would I" Eddie smiled and kissed her forehead.

"Right we better get up" Rachel smiled

"Not you I promised you breakfast in bed, now get your book out and relax" he smiled kissing her once more. "And that's an order"
