Disclaimer: Scorpion and all its characters belong to someone else. Any similarities to other stories are unintentional.
I know Sylvester treated Walter badly in the last episode of Scorpion, but he's never been a vindictive or bad person. I'm sure the writers had some sort of plan for them to reconcile, so please don't think too harshly of him finding romance in this chapter. Maybe our boys will remember they're brothers in this fic eventually... we'll have to read the story to see...
Chapter Eight- Sly and Florence
Sly smiled to himself, thinking about last night...
It had been a beautiful warm and sunny day, perfect for a walk in the park and a picnic lunch. Sly had been thinking about Megan, and how sad it was that he couldn't ever enjoy a date like this with her again. He sighed, but he knew that every moment they had spent together was in making memories- such wonderful memories with no regrets and not a second had been wasted. He loved her dearly, but he had to live in the present- he'd never ever forget her, but it was time to move on with living.
He knew she'd want this for him, and wouldn't want him to be alone forever. She'd had such a warm heart that she wanted the best for everyone and hadn't been in the slightest bit sorry for herself. He mused a little on Walter being her brother. In actual fact, although Walter would probably dispute it, he and Megan had a few similarities.
They were both good looking with big brown eyes. Both of them obviously cared about the other deeply, and strangely as it seems in relation to Walter, cared about other people too. As much as Walter denied any emotion and said love was just a semi- euphoric temporary chemical reaction, he very obviously loved his team and Cabe. Sly pushed away the memory of recent events, and remembered the small wooden box Megan found in Walter's room. As much as Walter denied sentimentality, he'd kept mementos and talismans from the times he'd met some of them - a poker chip from when he met Toby, a hotel room card that Sly remembered so well. Walter had even slipped a medal he'd been given from a job he'd completed in Bosnia into the box too. That terrible time he'd crashed the car Elia had given him had proved the point perfectly. Although Walter had problems voicing his emotions, he'd told each of them he loved them in his own way. No, whatever he said, Walt, like his sister, was a very caring person.
Sylvester stopped at the flower garden where he'd arranged to meet Florence. He stopped suddenly- there she was! She was sitting on a bench overlooking a bed of blooming flowers, vibrant in their colouring. He looked at her proudly, she was very pretty... petite and dainty but she had a fiery spark that he found very endearing. His girlfriend! He loved saying those words, especially now that it was out in the open to the guys!
'Florence!' he called 'Sorry I'm late!'
'No, no, you're not late- I'm just early. I finished my chemistry project and felt like some air so I came here early to enjoy the flowers, and wait for you!' Florence explained.
'Oh, I hope it went well! Were you working on something important?'
'No, just improving my binding agent. It no longer attracts jellyfish and is fully functional!'
'Great! Congratulations, Florence. It's a great innovation for removing plastic from the ocean.'
'Well, thank you Sylvester. It's got another use too, which I'm thinking of getting a patent for- a sting protective lotion to apply to all exposed skin before heading out into the water. But come and sit here, next to me! I erm... I missed you!''
'I missed you too.' Sly sat beside Florence, and tucked her small hand in his. She looked at the ring on his finger.
'So- you've been married? Are you divorced?' she asked.
'No, she er... died.'
'Oh, my goodness. I'm so sorry! I shouldn't have asked...' Florence was stricken. She hadn't realised! She'd just been a bit concerned he was still married and had been stringing her along. She didn't really think he was that kind of person, but she'd been hurt before.
'It's OK, Florence. She was a wonderful person. She would have liked you. I'm sure she'd be happy that we are together.'
'She sounds delightful. What was her name?'
'Megan. She was Walter's sister. I'm sorry, I thought you knew.'
'Walter's... oh. Now you come to mention it, I remember you saying you'd dated a girl called Megan, and she was Walter's sister. I also saw something in the garage - a photo. He said it was of his sister, but that was all. He never mentions her.'
'No, Walter's a very private person. But he was very close to his sister.'
They sat quietly for a few moments, each with their own thoughts. Sly suddenly turned to Florence and said 'Shall we walk by the river? It's got some beautiful shrubs and flowers there. It's a very romantic spot, perfect for sharing special moments with the girl of your dreams. Oh, gosh. Did I let my inside voice get out again?'
Florence looked at Sylvester in astonishment. Did he just say...? She wasn't sure how to respond, but a shiver of delight made its way down her spine. The girl of his dreams! No one had ever said such a beautiful thing to her before. She'd had boyfriends, but none of them had lasted very long. They had been either scientists who were more interested in her brain or men who seemed to get bored of her very quickly. Not one of them had been romantic and just pleased to spend time with her.
They slowly meandered alongside the river, which sparkled in the sunlight, speaking now and again, but quite happy to be together in companionable silence. Florence bent over a flower bed beside the river at the blooms of flowers growing there.
'Oh, these are beautiful! But.. I've learnt a little about botany when finding a fix for my sealant, and if these plants hadsomesupplementary feeds added to them, they'd be superb! Maybe I should inform someone... ooh, you're the alderman of West Altadena, perhaps you could pass the information on?'
Sly just stared at Florence, revelling in her flushed face as she became animated in her excitement. 'I'll try to...' he started to say, but as she stood up and instinctively grabbed his hand, he felt it tingling where she held it, like a charge of electricity.
'Flo...' he began but when she looked at him, straight into his eyes, his heart seemed to race and he suddenly couldn't think clearly.
'It's Florence...' she began to say out of habit, but as their eyes met, neither of them could look away. 'N...never mind.' her voice trailed off.
She didn't care what he called her. She could only hear the beating of her heart and without realising what she was doing, she licked her lips which had suddenly gone dry. When Sly caught the action, he softly moaned a little, feeling goosebumps not only where she was touching his hand, but cascading down his spine. His legs felt like jelly and he could feel the electricity flowing all through his body.
'Flo...' he repeated, and roughly pulled her towards him, crushing his lips against hers. Sly grabbed a handful of her hair and pulled her even closer to him as if he couldn't bear to let her go and passionately deepened the kiss. 'Florence Tipton.' he said, his speech slightly slurred with passion. 'I just want you to know... I'm in love with you!'
'Oh.' she replied, completely taken aback. She didn't know what to say for a few moments and looked at him with flushed cheeks, her eyes big with surprise.
'It's OK.' Sylvester said, suddenly letting her go and backing off a bit. 'It's too soon. I understand...'
'No!' Florence said abruptly, pulling him back into her arms where she felt safe and loved. 'I... I love you too. Don't let me go! This is where I want to be- in your arms... now don't talk! Just... just kiss me!'
Sly's fears for once completely disappeared. He grinned from ear to ear. 'I think I can do that!' he teased. 'Come here...' He once again pulled her close and they passionately kissed, ignoring the looks from people walking past them, some smiling at the young lovers as they passed by.
'Let's go home.' he finally said, and they happily walked hand in hand to spend time together... in private!
