Are they going to meet? Let's find out.
Waylon has to endure another hell of a day. People laughing at him, beating him and even throw things at him. It was the summer's holiday and a lot of people were at the carnival today. It sounds like fun to you and me, but it was another sleepless night for Waylon Jones.
But something of the people that were staring at him changed. Among the group of adults, he saw a young girl about six with long blonde hair and big blue eyes filled with curiosity and innocence. Oh, how Waylon envies that because of his childhood torment. That was until his one and only friend, now lover changed it.
The little girl approached Waylon's cage cautiously. She gave him a friendly smile like how a child greets her parents. Waylon was surprised by this form of kindness from a little girl. He couldn't help but smile back. The girl giggled and asked him in her six year old voice:
" What is your name, Mister?"
For all these ten years, no one has ever asked him his name except Kayla and her family. This child, had a pure heart and he looked into her eyes. He opened his mouth, in a voice, soft above a whisper said, " My name is Waylon Jones."
The girl, happy with the answer smiles her big smile. " That's a nice name. Can I call you Mister Waylon?" she asked. The crocodile man chuckled and show his sharp teeth. Amazingly, the little girl was not afraid. " Of course you can," he told her. " But now I want to ask you, what is your name?"
" Oh, silly me!" the girl cried. " It's Annabelle."
' Annabelle,' Waylon thought to himself. A name that means grace, beauty and pureness. This girl has a pure heart and sees him not as a monster but as a human being. But there's something that's bothering him. Why is this girl alone without an adult next to her? He looked around and saw no adult figure that looks like her.
" Annabelle," Waylon called her in a whisper. " Why are you here, alone? Don't you know that it is dangerous to walk here alone?"
Annabelle looked at him and said," My school is here on a field trip. We are suppose to go for the ferris wheel but the line was too long. So the teacher said that we could walk around until it is or turn to ride the ferris wheel. And I came here because I thought I heard a roar."
Waylon felt a bit embarrassed. He was the one who roared because of the cattle prod for 'misbehaving'. " Actually, I was the one making the roar," he looked away for a second.
" Why?"
" Because the people here don't like me. They hate my skin," he told her. Annabelle had an understanding of an adult, which impresses him.
" Then you should tell them to stop," she suggested. " You look like a crocodile, but you are so nice!" She tried to reach him with her little hands. Waylon, felt touched by this, extends his finger and placed it on her tiny hand as careful as if he was touching something fragile.
" Thank you," he whispered. Annabelle giggled and hugged the finger. Just then, the teacher called for her. She ran towards her teacher and she turned around to wave at him as a goodbye.
He waved back with a small smile.
Today was an event. He has met a new friend who doesn't see him as a monster. Before he could lie down to rest, he heard an angelic voice asking:
" Waylon, is that you?"
Oh, who is it? Children can be innocent before their parents brainwash them.
