Lisbon woke up to sun streaming in through her hospital room window. She closed her eyes against the harsh light and turned her head away from the window, opening her eyes to see Jane asleep on a cot that was tightly pressed against her bed; hand holding hers in his sleep. Lisbon smiled at him, giving his hand a gentle squeeze. She was finding it easier to believe that they were actually married. She felt safe with him somehow, even though she didn't know why. And he was handsome. She really hadn't done so bad, she decided. Jane stirred, opening his eyes and blinking a few times.

"Good morning." Jane drawled sleepily, grinning as his gaze met hers.

"Good morning." Lisbon replied softly.

Jane let go of her hand to sit up and stretch before turning to look at her again. "How are you feeling?"

"Fine." Lisbon propped herself up on her elbows.

Jane quickly got off his cot and unlocked the wheels so that he could move it and help Lisbon sit up. He set up the pillows so that she'd be comfortable.

"Thank you." Lisbon told him as she leaned back.

"I'll go get a nurse for you." Jane left and returned a moment later, nurse in tow.

-Mentalist-

The nurse had brought Lisbon some breakfast, asking her some questions to try and gauge how she was ad then went to get the doctor. When the doctor came in, he sent Lisbon for some tests. Jane waited for Lisbon in her room and was pleased that they came back with good news. She didn't have her memories back, but there was no permanent damage to her brain and she was well enough to be discharged from the hospital. Lisbon changed into the clothes that Jane had brought her from home.

Lisbon was glad to be out of the ugly hospital gown and in her own clothes. She pulled out the comfortable jeans that Jane had brought her, then the cotton t-shirt, and blushed when she found the underwear he had brought her. Of course, she needed underwear, but him bringing them meant that he'd been in her underwear drawer. Lisbon reminded herself that they were married, so that wasn't a big deal, but without her memories she was still a little embarrassed about it. At least it's not like he'd brought her anything sexy. Just a sports bra and regular underwear. Nothing she had to feel too uncomfortable about. Once she was changed, Lisbon left the bathroom and left her hospital clothing where the nurses had instructed.

Jane signed Lisbon out and escorted her out to her car. Jane had gotten Cho to bring Lisbon's car over, since Cho had wanted to check up on Lisbon, he hadn't minded so much; taking a taxi back to work and leaving Jane with the keys.

"Is this your car?" Lisbon asked as Jane unlocked it and they both climbed in, Lisbon taking the passenger seat.

"No, it's yours." Jane told her.

"What? I don't remember it. I have a bigger car."

"You got this one a few years back."

"Oh." Lisbon looked around the front passenger seat. When Jane turned the car on, Lisbon went through the preset radio stations, confirming that they were the stations that she listened to.

"Satisfied with the choice?" Jane teased lightly, not yet pulled out of the parking space.

"Yeah. Where are we going?"

"Home. Unless you had somewhere else you wanted to go."

"Can you take me to work?"

"You're supposed to take it easy, Teresa. Not work. You're such a workaholic."

"I care about my job! It's an important job!"

"I know." Jane nodded. "No need to get defensive. I was teasing. I'll take you to work."

"Okay. Thank you."

"You okay?"

"Yeah. I'm just thinking. I'm trying to think about what it might look like."

"I'm sure it'll look the same to you." Jane shifted gears and they left the hospital parking lot.

-Mentalist-

Lisbon gazed at the big building in front of her. From the outside, it basically looked the same as she remembered it. Her heart fluttered at the familiar look of it as Jane parked the car and they got out. Jane and Lisbon walked through the doors and to the elevator, Lisbon assessing the interior and noting the changes but it still felt good to be there.

"What was the name of the agent I replaced Hannigan with again?" Lisbon asked as they rode the elevator.

"Van Pelt. Grace Van Pelt. And she was a good choice, too. Loyal and hard working."

Lisbon smiled and gave him a nod. "Good to hear. Thank you."

"No problem."

The elevator doors opened on their floor and they stepped out, Jane letting Lisbon lead the way to the bullpen.

"Boss!" Rigsby smiled brightly, causing the other two agents of Lisbon's team to turn and look at them.

"I'm glad they let you sign out of the hospital!" Van Pelt said cheerily. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm feeling okay." Lisbon replied. "Thank you."

"We were just going over the evidence that we found on the bomb and the warehouse." Cho added, trying to make everything feel as normal as possible.

"Anything useful?" Lisbon asked, grateful for the familiarity.

"I got some security footage of some people creeping around. The faces that we were able to pick up are being sent through the database now." Van Pelt explained.

Lisbon nodded. "Good." But she realised that she didn't actually remember the case. Just an explosion after looking around a warehouse. "Uh, I'll be in my office if you need me."

"Sure thing, boss." Rigsby said.

Lisbon turned and headed toward her office, Jane following her. The blinds were closed, so she couldn't see in and she hesitated slightly before opening the door. The door opened and they both stepped in, Jane making sure the door closed behind them for some privacy. Lisbon swept the office with her gaze and smiled to herself. "This is really mine?"

"Well, your name is on the door."

Lisbon's smile widened. "It's even nicer than I had expected it to turn out."

"How did you expect it to look?" Jane inquired. He'd never asked about that and he hadn't realised how curious he was to know until now.

"I don't know..." Lisbon thought for a moment. "I expected it to be smaller."

"I think it's a fair size." Jane agreed.

Lisbon walked over to her desk, placing her hand on top of the computer monitor. She sat down in her desk chair and looked around her office again.

"Satisfied?" Jane asked, still sanding by the door and watching her.

"Very." Lisbon answered.

"Good." Jane bobbed his head, not moving from his spot to give her some space.

Lisbon scanned the pictures on her desk. A picture of her childhood dog. There was one of her brothers, she paused at the third one she saw, picking it up.

Jane moved to stand behind her in order to see the picture when she picked it up for a better look. He smiled as Lisbon ran her thumb gently over the glass. It was a wedding photo of them. Jane had insisted she put one on her desk, at first she'd been hesitant, but he had convinced her.

Lisbon couldn't help the small smile that tugged at the corners of her mouth. This was the first photo proof she had seen of their marriage since waking up in the hospital and she almost couldn't believe the woman in the picture was her. She looked so happy, wrapped in Jane's arms and blushing. He was kissing her head and she was looking away. It must have been a candid photo that just so happened to turn out really well. She had to admit, it did turn out really well. Lisbon turned her head to look at Jane, face set stubbornly. "I'll remember this. I will. Soon...I hope."

"You will remember." Jane agreed, kissing her head. "And I'll help. Don't worry."

Lisbon placed the wedding photo back on her desk.

"Would you like to go back out to the team?" Jane inquired. "Maybe they can fill you in on the case and you can work it with them. Might help you remember."

"Yeah. I would like that."

Jane walked with her out to the bullpen and excused himself, promising them all that he would be back shortly.

He went down to Lisbon's car and headed to Melody's school.

"What happened?" Was the first thing Melody said as she climbed into the car and shut the door.

"You know, most kids your age would have started with 'wow! You're the coolest uncle ever! Thanks for signing me out of school for ice cream!'" Jane teased.

"Ice cream?"

"That's the spirit!"

-Mentalist-

Jane dropped Melody back off at school for her last class after they went out for ice cream. Jane had felt bad leaving Melody in the dark and not even being there with her so he thought she deserved some quality time and a nice treat. He promised her again that everything was going to be okay before leaving her school parking lot.

"How's it going in here?" Jane asked and he entered the bullpen. "Where's Teresa?"

"Her head started to hurt so I got her some Advil and she's sleeping in her office." Van Pelt told him.

"Okay, thanks. How's the investigation going?"

"We've got a few hits on some of the faces we ran through the database, so we're doing backgrounds and coming up with a timeline for when the bomb could have been planted." Cho answered.

"Okay. Let me know if you need anything. I'll take Teresa home. She needs to relax."

"Of course." Cho went to the white board where they had started their timeline.

"I hope she feels better soon." Rigsby put in.

"Thanks." Jane replied and headed for Lisbon's office, noticing that the blinds hadn't been opened. He gently pushed the door open and closed it gently behind him as he entered Lisbon's office. Like Van Pelt had said, Lisbon was asleep on the office couch. Jane sat down on the edge of the couch and gently shook Lisbon's shoulder.

Lisbon grumbled, shifted and then peeked an eye open at him. "You're back." She slurred, tiredly.

"Yeah. I'll take you home now. You have to rest, Teresa."

"Okay." Lisbon agreed, reluctantly and got up. They both said good bye to everyone before they left and then headed down to the parking lot.

"How did it go with the team?" Jane turned the key in the ignition.

"It went well. We got some hits on some of the faces and were able to work on a timeline. We talked to the politician that owned the warehouse as well. Cho will probably interview him tomorrow."

"Good to hear that you guys were able to get all that done." Jane said cheerily as he drove them home.

"How about you? What did you get up to?"

"Nothing much." Jane shrugged. "Just took care of a few things."

"That's awfully vague, don't you think?"

"I was just trying to help our situation. Speaking of which, what would you like for dinner? We can pick something up or I can cook."

"I...what? I don't know...Don't distract me! What were you doing!?"

"You need to eat, Teresa."

"Tell me what you were doing."

"Don't argue with me, Teresa. Please."

"I'm not arguing. You're just being difficult."

"Chinese take-out it is."

"Great. Now answer my question."

"I went to see some people. You won't remember them yet." Jane tried to be gentle.

"Oh." was all Lisbon said in response.

Jane reached over with one hand and gave her knee an encouraging squeeze. "Don't think about that. I'll get your favourite."

"What place are we even ordering from."

"You'll like it." Jane assured her.

-Mentalist-

"And you didn't want to buy so much food." Jane teased as he saw Lisbon wolf down a second helping as they ate in the kitchen of their home.

"Shut up. It's good and I'm hungry. Eat more. I can't eat all of this."

Jane chuckled, taking some more noodles. "How's your head feeling."

"Better." Lisbon admitted.

"After we finish eating, you can go have a shower and then take a nap."

"But the dishes-"

"I'll take care of them."

"Are you sure?"

"Of course. It's only two plates. Really. Go take a warm shower."

"Thanks." Lisbon got up and passed him her empty plate before she left.

Jane took their plates to the sink and was just about to start the dishes when he heard Lisbon yelling his name angrily. He startled at the fury in her voice and ran upstairs to see what had provoked her.

"What the hell is this!?" Lisbon screamed as Jane climbed the final steps. "What is wrong with you!? How could you lie to me about that!?"

"Teresa-"

"You said we didn't have a child!"

"We don't-"

"Then explain this!" Lisbon gestured to Melody's room door with a colourful and sparkling name sign on the door.

"Melody isn't our daughter."

"Then who is she?" Lisbon glared at him.

"She's your niece."

Lisbon's brows knit together, but she still glared at him. "My niece is Annabeth."

"Your oldest niece is Annabeth. Your youngest niece is Melody."

Lisbon's face fell completely. "I have...a second niece...?"

Jane nodded.

"And she lives with us?"

Jane nodded again.

"Well then why doesn't she live with Annabeth and Tommy in Chicago?"

"She's not Tommy's daughter, either."

"Then which brother?"

"Take a guess. Just think about it."

Lisbon frowned, but thought about it. "I haven't talked to Andy in years." Lisbon thought out loud. "He never returns any of my calls. Or Tommy's or...James. She's James' daughter?"

"Yes."

"Why doesn't she live with James, then?" Lisbon's voice was thick with worry.

"He's not dead." Jane jumped in to end her train of thought. "He's very much alive, don't worry. It's just complicated."

"What isn't complicated?"

"Good question. That's a very short list."

"Hm."

"Look around her room if you want. It might help."

Lisbon sighed heavily. "My head really hurts again."

"Probably because you got worked up."

"How else was I supposed to react!? What was I supposed to think!?"

"Sshhhh..." Jane walked over to her. "I'm not accusing you of anything. You don't have to look around more if you don't want to. Would you rather take a nap before your shower?"

"No, I want to shower first."

"Okay. Then you can go shower."

Lisbon turned and headed into their room. "Um...where would my clothes be?" She turned to him after opening the door and turning on the light. "This is not how I remember my room."

Jane smiled. "Right. We did some redecorating."

"You coerced me into redecorating, didn't you." It was more a statement than a question.

Jane shrugged. "Either way, it's staying the way it is right now."

Lisbon rolled her eyes. "My head hurts, can you please just tell me where I can get some clothes for after my shower?"

"The dresser on this side of the room. The one with the jewelry box on top. It was yours. The new one we got for me."

"Than you." Lisbon told him as she went to grab some clothes and headed for the bathroom.

"I'll leave you to it, then." Jane told her as he headed back downstairs to finish washing their plates.

-Mentalist-

Lisbon took a short nap after her shower, but didn't seem to be sleeping so well. She had complained that her head hurt too much. Jane got her some Advil and Lisbon decided to curl up on the couch instead, massaging her temples.

"Maybe I'll call the doctor if your head is bothering you so much." Jane suggested.

"No, I'll be fine." Lisbon insisted.

"Teresa, you've had a headache for almost an hour. You suffered a head injury. I think it would be a good idea to call the doctor."

"I'm not going all the way back to the hospital for a little headache."

"You have a head injury."

"Stop telling me that. You think I can't see the ugly cut on my forehead? Thanks for letting me know." Lisbon snapped.

Jane bit back his next argument, not wanting to get her worked up again in a debate with him. "Fine then. But itf it keeps up, I'm going to call the doctor. We know a doctor and I'm sure she'll come see you if you if you need a check up."

Lisbon shot him a look. "I don't need a doctor."

"How about a massage?"

Lisbon looked at him hesitantly.

"I just want you to relax and get some rest. You don't even have to lie down. Just come sit next to me." Jane could see Lisbon debating with herself.

"Do you give me massages all the time?"

"On occasion. When you really need it."

Lisbon thought about it for a moment and then moved to sit closer to Jane. She sat close enough for her shoulder to be touching his and he shifted so that his arm was around her and she could lean against him as he massaged her shoulders.

Lisbon let out a pleased sigh and leaned against him more.

"I take it that this feels good, then."

Lisbon grunted happily in response as Jane continued to massage her shoulders in silence. Soon enough Lisbon was asleep against his shoulder. Jane let himself doze off for a little bit as well.

-Mentalist-

Lisbon snuggled against the warmth at her side as her eyes fluttered open.

"Look who's awake." Jane teased, causing Lisbon to jump. "Sorry. Didn't mean to startle you. How is your head feeling?"

"Much better, thank you." Lisbon sat up properly and stretched.

"Glad to hear it. Are you hungry again? It's almost dinner time."

"Did I really sleep that long?"

"You did." Jane confirmed.

"Wow. I didn't mean to. I'm sorry."

"Don't apologize for that. You were tired and you deserve your rest. How about we do something nice for dinner? I'll take you out."

"I don't want to wear a dress."

"Not that fancy. Just a family restaurant or something. You can wear a nice blouse and some nice jeans."

"No blouse or jean combination is going to distract from this." Lisbon gestured to the cut on her forehead.

"It's not that bad."

"Says you." Lisbon rolled her eyes.

Jane took her hand, giving it a gentle squeeze and Lisbon met his gaze. "Please, Teresa. Let me take you out."

Lisbon's breath caught in her throat. "Okay."

"Great. Let's go get us changed then." Jane kissed the cut on her forehead gently and got up, pulling her along with him. He led her back up to their room and looked through her clothes quickly; producing a deep green blouse and a pair of dark wash jeans. He grabbed a change of clothes for himself and went to the bathroom; leaving Lisbon to change in the master bedroom.

Lisbon quickly changed and began to look through the drawers on the little vanity in a corner of the room. She caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror and frowned. She looked terrible! In one of the vanity drawers she found some eyeliner and blush, but that was it. If only she could do something about the cut, but she couldn't. She settled for putting on some eyeliner and hoped that helped at least a little, adding some perfume to herself and joined Jane in the hallway.

"You didn't have to bother with makeup, you know."

"I'm not talking about this right now. You're just going to insist that I look fine, even though I don't and we're just going to argue. Can we just agree to disagree? Are we going to dinner?"

"If that is what you would like." Jane grinned, taking her hand.

They decided on Italian so they didn't have a repeat of lunch for dinner and they found a nice little place not too far away. They were seated ad left to their menus. Lisbon still found it strange having someone watching out for her and admiring her the way that Jane did, but she had to admit, she liked it. He entertained her with magic tricks, teased her and she was starting to get the hang of bantering with him. She was giggling as they headed back out to the car, Jane's arm at her back.

"Is this something we commonly do?" Lisbon asked before getting in the car when Jane opened the passenger door for her.

"Only when you'll let me fuss over you and treat you."

Lisbon smiled. "Good."

"You're so stubborn." Jane shook his head, but he was still smiling widely.

"I know." Lisbon got in the car and did up her seat belt.

Jane shut the door for her and then hurried over to climb into the driver's seat and take them home.

"It feels nice to be home." Lisbon said as Jane locked the door behind them.

"Feels nice to hear you call it home again."

Lisbon turned to face him. "It is starting to feel that way."

"Good." Jane opened his arms for a hug and Lisbon obliged. He held her tightly and breathed in the scent of her shampoo.

"I'm glad I woke up to this." Lisbon whispered into his shoulder.

Jane pulled away just enough to look at her. "Yeah?"

Lisbon gave a small nod. "I mean, I woke up to a happy life. I'm married, happily it seems, and the team is working together well. To be honest, I'm glad Hannigan quit. I was hoping he would. Everything he did it seemed like he did it begrudgingly and it was very tiresome. Grace it much more chipper and nicer to work with."

Jane grinned. So, as much as she had resisted him when they'd first met, he'd helped her out and she knew it when Hannigan quit. "Lucky you, huh?" He kissed her head, letting his lips linger there.

"And thank you." Lisbon continued.

Jane looked at her again.

"You're a good husband."

"I have a good wife."

Lisbon blushed and looked away.

"Come on. Lets get to bed. It's been a long day." Jane unwrapped his arms from around her, wishing he didn't have to.

Lisbon nodded and they headed upstairs. Jane showed Lisbon where her pyjamas were and let her change in the bathroom so she could brush her teeth and do whatever else she needed to do while he changed and then used the bathroom after her.

Lisbon was folding back the blankets on the bed when Jane walked back into the master bedroom.

"Would you like me to sleep on the couch downstairs?" He asked.

"Huh?" Lisbon looked over at him, realizing that as a married couple, they shared the bed and blushed.

"Would it make you more comfortable if I slept on the couch in the living room?" Jane elaborated.

"No." Lisbon answered. "It's your bed, too. I'm not going to kick you out of it. You've been nothing but nice to me. I couldn't do that."

"Will it make you uncomfortable if I sleep here?"

"No. I'll be fine."

"Are you sure?"

Lisbon nodded.

"Okay. Just let me know if you change your mind." Jane turned off the light and crawled under the covers with Lisbon. He stayed on his side, leaving Teresa to the other side so he didn't make her feel smothered or anything. He could feel the mattress shift slightly as she tossed and turned. "Something wrong?"

"No. I'm just...not used to this mattress yet, I guess."

"Do you want to try my side?"

"No."

"You sure?"

"Yes."

Jane smirked at her stubborn and sure responses. He lay on his back and closed his eyes. He doubted that he'd really sleep, but he had to try. He felt Lisbon still herself and for a brief moment, he thought she might have fallen asleep. Then, the mattress shifted again and before he could wonder what she was doing, he felt her snuggling into his side, laying a hand gently on his chest. She probably thought he was asleep. It took everything in him, but he waited until he was sure she was asleep before wrapping his arm around her and pulling her into his side. He was glad that she was still there with him. They would sort everything else out.
