When Fleur thinks of bravery or courage, she would immediate think of Hermione and the brunette's usually fiery spirit which is very much in line with her Gryffindor friends and the house traits. But to Hermione, whenever she thinks of bravery or courage, she thinks of Fleur. Fleur is one of the most valiant people you would ever meet in your life and even though you might not think so when you first meet the blonde, you will be proven wrong when you get to know her.
While it is already quite well known on how protective Fleur is of Hermione, dealing with Draco and his Slytherin cronies whenever they attempted to bully the brunette when during their fourth year where Fleur and the other foreign schools attended Hogwarts for the year. She is also very protective whenever they are out in a social setting and she wishes to protect the younger witch by unwanted attention by those who are looking at the brunette the wrong way, or simply staring for no good reason.
One might think that is her being possessive, however Hermione knows just how much the blonde seeks to protect the younger witch. Veelas are passionate creatures and whatever they value as theirs, they will protect it with their entire life and will not kneel down from their sworn duty to protect the one they love. And Fleur showed no sign of backing down from the unofficial duty either, taking it in stride every time there was a situation where they needed protecting.
That is why when Hermione went on the Horcrux hunt with Harry and Ron, she nearly had to cast a paralyzing charm on the blonde to stop her from coming. It is Fleur's first instinct to protect Hermione and with the war going on, her protective instincts were just going haywire. She wanted to keep Hermione safe, and she was just so worried the entire time as she never knew where the brunette was in the world, just knowing how much danger she was in just by associating with Harry.
But Hermione pushed through as she always does and when the two reunited at Shell Cottages, she allowed herself to be fussed over by the blonde, just taking comfort in being held by her girlfriend once again. If Fleur had it where way, she would keep Hermione in a bubble charm and store her away from the war entirely, keeping her safe with her and the clan. But yet again, Hermione refused, and Fleur could not stop her from continuing her mission.
She fell in love with an independent spirit after all and nothing can tell Hermione no when she has set her mind to something.
And so, when the battle of Hogwarts came, Hermione found herself reunited with her love once again, being swept up into a passionate kiss before they soon had to battle with the death eaters, Harry and Voldemort fighting somewhere else on the grounds. All they could do was to pray that the raven-haired boy will win and put an end to this war.
But until then, they must keep fighting.
Hermione knew that Fleur was nearby, feeling the blonde's thrall wrapped around her. Fleur needed some kind of hold on Hermione, being separated from her long enough and just needing to have the knowledge that she was alive and still there is what the blonde needed. So, Hermione knew that Fleur was still alive. Feeling her thrall around her and with that comforting thought, Hermione kept fighting. She hexed and casted several charms at different witches and wizards, determined to come out of this battle alive.
While she was already battling several others, Hermione did not notice the lurking presence of the werewolf who had his eyes set on the younger witch, wanting to get his revenge for nearly getting killed by the witch. Fenrir Greyback snarled and leapt out of his hiding place, claws extended, and teeth bared as he flew in Hermione's direction, his teeth gleaming and yearning for a taste of the brunette's blood.
Sensing the oncoming threat, Hermione whirled around, and her eyes widened as she realised too late that Fenrir Greyback was still alive and that his claws were just a few seconds away from plunging into her body. But just before he could even lay a hand on her, he was suddenly blasted away, howling and gruffing as he slammed into some broken debris, bits of the castle war which has been destroyed during the battle.
Hermione snapped her head to where the spell came form and she was met with the sight of a furious Fleur Delacour, her wand pointing at the werewolf and her eyes shining a bright gold as her lips were set in a snarl of her own.
"You will not lay a hand on her!"
Fleur immediately casted a spell, one which Fenrir barely managed to dodge as he stumbled out of the debris, quickly leaping to his feet as he snarled ferociously at the veela heiress. Knowing just what kind of danger Fleur was in, Hermione immediately reached out to her in desperation.
"Fleur!"
"Don't worry Hermione, I will deal with him!" Fleur turned around and gave Hermione a determined smile, her eyes blazing as she pointed with her chin.
"Go find Ron! You two have to finish your mission!"
"But you-"
"I will be here at the end mon amour, I promise."
Despite the danger she was in, her voice was still soft as she said the endearing nickname which she called the brunette and Hermione's bottom lip trembled as she stared at the blonde as it may be the last time, she may see her. But Fleur had had a look in her eye which just told Hermione that she intended to keep her promise. Just like how she always says, 'A Delacour always keeps their promises.'.
So, Hermione looked at Fleur and nodded, accepting at what needs to be done and then she whirled around and began to run away, spotting her red-headed friend battling a death eater near an arch way. She grabbed Ron and they immediately made way to find Nagini, needing to dispose of her as soon as they can.
Before they turned the corner, Hermione managed to catch the bright spell which Fleur casted at Fenrir, hitting the werewolf straight in the chest which sent him flying. Hermione couldn't help but smile. Fleur was the most brave and courageous person she has ever met; she will make it through this.
As Hermione began to run through the school, she could feel Fleur's thrall getting thinner and thinner before disappearing completely from her, the distance between the two women now being too far for Fleur's thrall to be around her. Hermione had to bite her lip to stop herself from crying. She had to keep pushing. Fleur promised that she would make it and she was putting all her hope in the blonde that she does.
She has to.
When the battle was finally over and Harry came out victorious, Hermione immediately sought out for Fleur. She searched the crowd, needing to see those blue eyes she has fallen in love with and now hopes that she will be able to stare into them forever more in the future.
Fleur promised that she would stay alive and like she always says, a Delacour keeps their promises. Fleur doesn't promise anything easily, so she has to be alive. She has to.
A sob just left Hemione's lips as she locked eyes with the ones whom she loves so much. Fleur's face broke out into a smile, her own tears escaping her eyes as she saw the brunette, seeing her alive and here still at Hogwarts. Neither of them cared as they pushed themselves through the crowd and just launched themselves at each other. Hermione wrapped her arms around the blonde's neck and Fleur wrapped her own around the younger witch's waist. Their lips met with a ferocious passion and both had tears running down their cheeks, tears of joy as they now were reunited finally after so long.
"You're alive." Hermione gasped out, pulling away to cup Fleur's face and trace her cheeks, as if to reassure herself that it was in fact Fleur holding her so tightly. Fleur smiled and leaned forward to press a kiss to Hermione's forehead.
"Of course, I am. I made a promise to protect you and I intend to do that."
A laugh escaped Hermione's lips and she just hugged Fleur tightly, wrapping her arms around the blonde and never letting go.
"We have forever to do that no Fleur. For ever."
Those who know the blonde will know just how valiant the blonde is when it comes to protecting Hermione. Even though the war is long over, and peace has finally settled in the wizarding world, Fleur still protected Hermione from any danger that was posed on her. Be it from curious glances from colleagues or even a clan member who disagrees with Fleur's partner of chouse, Fleur is there to protect her. And Hermione appreciates it so much.
While she does enjoy her own independence, it is nice to feel protected and knowing she can depend on someone to keep her save. Fleur was brave and courageous, and nothing will stop her from doing what she wanted to do.
Guess the two of them were not all that much different.
