A few days later I found myself watching my friends more as they wandered around. More would come from the forest as I watered my garden around noon. I would look at each of their body shapes and think about who created such beings. Some of them had heads bigger than their body. They would struggle to walk around sometimes. They showed no signs of intelligence or consciousness. I waved hello to my precious Dina while processing this.
It was a warm day. I spent most of my time outside, reading my newspaper from the locals. My skin felt loved by the sun, perhaps I'll get a tan finally. On this day, I made the effort to detangle my hair. My head felt light as a result. Maybe that's why my mind did so much gymnastics. I still put it in a small bun though it'll dry slower.
A particular part of the newspaper struck out to me today. It reviewed the murder of a city's king and a new queen was put it place. It appears that the new queen was the daughter of the king but was unfortunately a product of his affair with another woman. It really wasn't part of the local news around here but I guess it was big enough news to be mentioned here. I sat the newspaper down for a brief moment while I fiddled around with the golden ring around my finger. I looked around and I found most of my giant friends heading in a general direction. My eyebrow lifted. Something felt off. I stayed still and just watched them hobble and walk towards another part of the forest. This was the most collective I've ever seen them.
I floated up to my upper story balcony to watch them a little bit more. I sat down on my patio chair but made sure to lift my head in case they had already reached the other part of the forest. I put on Sway It, Hula Girl to really set the mood. However, they moved so slow, it was almost becoming irritating. At the moment, I wished that I had someone to report back to me to fill me in. I stared at them for a couple of moments longer until I realized that I do have someone to fill me in!
I spoke to the watch on my right arm.
"Demetrius," I spoke. I waited a couple of seconds before my watch made a small beep.
"Yes, Lilith. Is there something you need?" He asked. Demetrius' voice was deeper than what I recall. I have him on speed dial for my protection. Though, it wasn't like I couldn't defend myself or anything.
"Not necessarily but I would like to be a little nosy." He didn't respond. I pursed my lips together a little. I wasn't sure if he needed more convincing. "You know, I don't ask for much. I'm just wary right now."
"Mm." Demetrius appeared out of the thin air by my side. His twelve eyes dawned on the daylight, something that's not normal in the palace. His body appeared morphed as his physical body was having difficulty getting itself together for this specific realm. He appeared dark and formless.
"Alright, what do you need me to do?" He asked. I pointed to the crowd that was slowly getting bigger and more clustered together. Half of his eyes followed my fingertip.
"I need you to go follow those giants over there and see what they're doing. They're mindless so I don't understand what's going on or why they're moving collectively. I consider them my friends and I don't want them getting hurt," Demetrius' top eye squinted at me. I shifted my gaze from him to the crowd. "If they do get hurt, it's fine, I guess. I don't think they feel either. Just do me a favor and don't get involved if there is something going on. You know how I feel about such things."
"You're a strange one, Lilith." I rolled my eyes.
"Well, I don't know what you expected my man."
The top half of Demetruis' body had finally formed. He was extremely built from doing hard labor at the palace. Five of his eyes were scattered around there. He was still dark though.
"They're moving extremely slow-" The giants then started running. The ground rumbled as they all stomped.
"Fuck no. That is NOT normal, Demetrius. I'm worried!" I scrunched up my eyebrows together and pursed my lips. I had never seen them run like that before. "What if one gets hurt?" I looked over at him with worried eyes.
"Then they get hurt? I don't know how you want me to answer that. I don't know anything about this place." He blankly answered. Damn, you ain't gotta talk to me like that. Imma let it slide tho. I cringed at him.
"You're an ass. Just report some information back to me before the moon rises. I need to know if I should relocate." I shooed him away. Demetrius flew towards the crowd and hovered over them until I could no longer see them. I sighed and tossed my head up towards the sun.
The next couple of hours were incredibly quiet. Too quiet. The birds had stopped chirping. If there were any, they were flying in the opposite direction of where Demetrius went. I had occupied my time by walking around the field, admiring flowers, and planting new ones. I tried that cute thing where one blows a dandelion's petals and makes a wish. The sun wasn't going to set for quite a while as it was only four in the afternoon. My hair had completely dried. I thought about twisting my hair. I was looking at the sunflowers when I was interrupted.
"Lilith," I heard. It came from my watch. I pulled it closer to my mouth.
"Yes?"
"It appears that your friends are having a feast." I paused. My mind buzzed slightly. It took me a little bit to process this.
"A feast? I didn't think they actually ate out of hunger." I questioned.
"Well, they're feasting on the humans that reside here in this big town. I couldn't conclude on the reason." I stayed silent. I disassociated into the yellow flower petal. "Is there anything else you would like for me to report?" Demetrius asked. A "yes" was preparing to be verbally formed but human affairs are sworn to not be a part of my worries.
"Um, no I think- "
"There's a giant that appears to be armored," My attention snapped back to his words. "He has silver hair, and he is fighting with another one that looks like he's made to fight." By this moment, my mind was completely buzzed with what-ifs and new questions. "Are you familiar with the ones I just described?"
I looked ahead at the horizon.
"No."
"Well then, is there anything else I could do for you while I'm still here? I have all the time in the world,"
"Ha, don't we all," I responded flatly. There were a couple of moments of silence again. I tried my best to contour up an image of what he saw in the meanwhile. His description was very vague though.
"It's a shame I can't show you what I'm seeing. You don't possess the ability to see with my eyes." I suppose there wasn't a problem with me getting a sneak peek of what Demetrius was talking about. I don't think he was trying to get me to work up the courage to see this on purpose… or was he?
"I am aware, Demetrius. You don't have to rub it in."
"I would pay to watch this on pay-per-view or whatever you call it." He laughed. I didn't feel like keeping up with his taunting.
"Ok well, your job is done here."
"In that case, I bid you farewell." I hear my watch beep for the final time before he turned his off. A breeze started to come in again while the sun tried setting for the day. I get really confused. Perhaps I was focusing too much on their face values and actions to disregard the possibility of something like this happening. I was certain they were eerily similar to animals.
It didn't matter. I expected them to come back from whatever they were doing. I don't have the persistence to attempt to communicate with them or read their minds. I think this will be a one-time thing and I don't visualize them doing something similar in the near future.
Unless someone told them to do so?
