As the girls share their stories, Liz and Kerry listen and interact as well. Liz and Kerry also talk and laugh together, as always. They discuss their shopping trip from a few days ago, and talk about the latest designer handbags they have both been crushing over. They relax and converse for a few hours, and then Kerry sits in the room with the girls, as they pack. She enjoys spending time with them; they are such fearless, strong, and intelligent young women. She adores their admiration for their father, and their love of life.
After packing, Liz and the girls head out. They hate to see them go, but they understand they have lives to return to. Before she leaves, Tess kisses Josie. They have made a connection, and every time she visits. Josie finds her way into her lap. They all exchange hugs, as they walk the girls down to their car and watch them drive away.
After they leave, Kerry and Tony head back inside and clean up the kitchen. Once the domesticated duties are done. They sit down on the couch, and decide to watch the movie they ordered. The movie is "Southpaw," Staring Jake Gyllenhaal, Forest Whitaker, and 50 cent.
From the onset of the movie; Kerry is cuddled up into Tony's arms and burying her face into his chest at all of the bloody scenes. Tony laughs as he says, "Babe why did you pick this movie? You read the description first; so you knew it was a boxing film." She replies, "Yeah, but I like Jake Gyllenhaal." He smiles and holds her through the fight scenes. The movie turns out to be very good; they both enjoy it.
As they sit back and relax momentarily, Kerry says, "It was nice talking to the girls today." He replies, "Yeah, they are great. I love seeing them. I can't believe they are so grown already. Tess will be heading to college, and Anna is already working and taking care of herself." She smiles at him and he asks, "What's the smile for?"
She grins as she says, "You're such a good daddy." He responds, "Thanks, I try to be. There's nothing better than being a parent." She nods in agreement as she says, "I'm sure you're right."
He replies, "Why do you say it that way?" She replies, "What way?" He replies, "As if it's not something that's attainable for you. We've talked about having kids. Has something changed?" She responds, "It hasn't changed T, but I don't see it happening right now. Especially not with the show taking off, and not being in a position to have a baby. With the timing of everything."
He responds, "Ker, it can happen when you're ready for it to happen. All you have to do is say the word." She already knows his take on this, and doesn't want to argue. But she says, "Tony you can't be serious." He replies, "Why can't I be? Do you have someone else in mind?" She sighs as she replies, "Of course not. But that would never fly, and you know it.
The media would be all over it. Me being an unwed mother isn't a good look, my parents would freak. Not to mention explaining the whereabouts of the baby's father. It would be a nightmare!"
She sees that he's looking back at her and saying nothing. She's waiting for him to respond. She asks, "Why aren't you saying anything?" He replies, "Because I want you to get out all of the negative and scary preliminary reasons we can't do this first. So we can talk about the real reason it could work, and the real reason you're resisting."
She shakes her head as she says, "Tony I don't want to argue about this." He replies, "We aren't arguing, we are talking." She responds, "Yes, and it's going to end up in the same place it always does."
He has to admit, this isn't a topic that fairs well for them. But he knows, if this time is going to be different. They have to face all of the hard stuff, and face it together. So he says, "Ker, in the past, this has been a rough talk for us. But I want to change it. I want us to really hash this out. Because I know there's nothing more you want, than to be a mother. Am I right?" She replies, "Yes."
He responds, "Then with that being said, I can't be the reason you don't fulfill that goal. I don't want to be the reason you don't fulfill it. I want to be a part of you accomplishing it. So whether that's me letting you go, so you can be happy with someone else, or us making this work. Whatever it is, I don't want you to give up on your dream of being a mother."
He sees he's making headway with her; her eyes are relenting, and she's calming down. As his words settle for her; she says, "Tony, I don't want to be with anyone else. I don't want this if it's not with you." He smiles at her as he says, "Then I need you to trust me and hear me out. Okay?"
She nods as she says, "Okay." He takes a breath, as he says, "I believe this can work Ker. It can work because we love each other, and we are committed to being together. If we found a way to be together this long, we can figure out how to have a baby too."
She hears him but says, "Babe, this isn't about loving each other. This is about the viability of a plan, which would allow us to pull this off." He responds, "I beg to differ Ker, because when you love someone. I mean really love someone, anything and everything is possible." He sees her still in contemplation of his words; he has to say what's on his heart.
So he says, "Look, we don't have to make a decision on this right now. I know it's a hard decision. I'm not making light of it. I just want you to really think about this, and be honest about the main reason behind you saying no to us doing this." She knows he feels she's running scared, and she knows to a degree he's right.
The truth is, her getting pregnant could be easily dealt with in the media, with good public relations. So in short this is lying at her doorstep, and she can't fight it. She remembers their talk; they agreed this time would be different. They would work together, and work through things.
He sees her thinking and gives her the time she needs to process everything, as he strokes her cheek. As she comes out of her thinking haze; she says, "I know you think I am just scared of the blow back from the publicity, and you're right. I will admit to it." She sees the look of surprise on his face to her admission. He kisses her lips in acceptance of her response.
But afterwards, she touches his face as she says, "Let me finish." He replies, "Okay." She sighs as she says, "Despite that being the case; I also want you to admit that you are being rather idealistic about how this would play out for me. As a man in your position, you could survive a scandal like this career wise.
But my career is still in its blooming stages, and as a woman. Let alone a black woman in Hollywood, my days are numbered anyway. Considering these factors, and the fact that our child would be growing up amidst that type of vitriol, seems unfair, and I don't want that for our child. Can you understand that?"
She makes a good point, and he understands her position. She sees the joy he once had in his eyes now dimmed. She loves that she may always be the voice of reason, or sometimes called a killjoy, being the over thinker she is, and admittedly loving to be in control. But he always holds on to some hope; he's never quite down for the count.
In hearing her he says, "In all that you've said, I hear you. But it doesn't have to play out the way you're thinking. Putting aside the public aspect of this, because that's what public relations is for. I want you to know I realize the sensitivity of our situation; I get the blowback on this would be major.
But I want you to realize, where there's a will there's a way. I just want you to promise me; that you won't completely rule out all of our options. Because we both know this show won't last forever, and we will be able to live our lives sooner, than you think."
