As an attempt to take control of the situation; Tony tried to pull Jane to the side, he refused to argue with her in front of everyone. But she wouldn't go quietly. So he obliged her, and he reminded her their marriage had been over for more than a decade, and he'd only stayed married on paper for the girls. But her signature was all that was needed to complete the process, and that's still the case. His comment makes it clear she's staying married to him and making a scene out of spite.
The reality of his statement was final, and everyone in the room felt it, even Jane. She needed to face what they've all faced long ago, which was the charade was over, and it was only a matter of time before the truth would surface. Feeling embarrassed and realizing that her trip was pointless, she left.
Afterwards, Kerry felt terrible about the situation, and Liz comforted her, telling her that Jane's never objected to Tony's past relationships. She's only objecting to this one because she knows it's real. She knows that this time he's really happy, and in love. At that point she and Tony had only been together a year and a half. That clash with Jane, should've ran her off, and it almost did.
In fact, after that night, when he dropped her off at home. She told him she didn't know if she could continue to do this. Seeing Jane made it real, and she wasn't ready for it. She saw the hurt in his eyes, but remembered most what he said to her. He said, "We can't let her win. This isn't about her. This is about you and me. I belong to you, and we belong together. I will wait for you forever if I have to. Just don't give up on us."
His words touched her heart, no man had ever said that to her before, and she'd certainly never felt this way before about anyone, not even David. Before Tony, she thought she knew love, but she realizes now that what she had with David, was nothing compared to how full her heart is with Tony.
She absolutely loves him for how he loves her, and how he unapologetically lives his life. He faces every challenge with an idea of how to get through it, and never accepts defeat.
She marvels at his fearlessness. He takes things as they come, and he responds in kind. He regulates her, and helps her remember that tomorrow is going to come, whether we are ready or not, and life is all about adjustments. It's a philosophy she's learning to adapt, because it's proven to be true.
Nonetheless, she is a work in progress. At this point it's been four years, they've been doing this dance, and she still gets the willies whenever something about them makes it to the press. She knows Tony has the press angle covered, with his friendship with Harvey, the owner of TMZ. Without his help, there's no way they would've been able to keep their relationship quiet this long.
According to Harvey, the show will make it easier to explain them being together so much publicly, but it will also mean they will have more attention paid to them too. So it's a double edged sword. But of course Tony is game for the challenge, as he's said repeatedly.
She thinks about him again, and wants so badly to call him. She's so amped. She already knows he's going to tell her once again she worried for nothing. Her current feelings make her think of her nervousness, when they showed Anna and Tess the pilot at their apartment, before the season started.
She recalls how sweet the girls were, when they watched the pilot together before it aired, with her and Tony. It was a great evening of laughter and good food. She and Anna commandeered the kitchen, and cooked up some salmon and quinoa with a wedge salad.
She was so nervous for them to see the show, the only way she knew she could stand it, was by eating during the viewing. At the end, there was some silence, and Kerry didn't know what to think. She got incredibly nervous.
Seeing she was freaking out, Tess says, "So are you ready to go Anna?" Anna playing along starts to grab her things. Kerry now smiles remembering the moment, but at the time she was a wreck. Now that she thinks about it, seeing the look of confusion on Tony's face at the girls' reaction, confirmed how she was feeling at that time.
He didn't realize they were kidding either, he even used his dad voice as he said, "Wait a minute girls, what's going on here? You can't just walk out like this." Seeing he was upset, Tess said, "Dad, calm down. We're just playing." His mood shifted to confusion as he said, "What?"
Both Anna and Tess laugh, just before Anna gives her opinion. She smiled as she said, "The story is dynamic, sexy, and very interesting. Just as a drama should be. I think you have a hit on your hands." Tess responded, "Agreed, it's a fantastic show, and I see it doing very well. You two are fire on screen."
Their reactions made Kerry smile like the sun, as she jumped up and hugged them. Tony looked on as his favorite ladies embraced out of love and jubilation. Having their support meant everything to Kerry, and she is beaming now, because she feels like they have a clear path, so she can let go of the anxiety in her head, about the reactions of the girls, or anyone else close to them.
She's shaken from her thoughts, by the sound of the outer door of the hotel room, opening, and closing. She walks out into the hall, and is greeted by her love. He says, "Damn, you're dressed already. I was hoping to catch you naked." She laughs as she says, "Really? Well, clearly your workout was more important."
