Ruby blinked awake. Her vision was blurry.
"He-hello?" She called feeling dread rise in her chest.
"Hey there kiddo." She heard Her uncle say from somewhere to her left.
"U-uncle Qrow."
"I'm here. What's wrong."
"I-I can't see very well." She said worriedly
"Just relax. I'm sure that your sight will return shortly."
Ruby began to relax. "What happened?"
"What's the last thing you remember?"
"You asking me what the last thing I remember."
"I'll rephrase the question. What's the last thing you remember from Beacon?"
Ruby closed her eyes and thought back. "I saw someone fly out of the clock tower and asked Weiss to help me get up there. She used her glyphs to boost me up and help me stick to the side of the clock tower. When I got up to the top, I saw Jason, Pyrrha, Jaune, and Geoff fall through the floor. I got really sad, and there was a flash of light. That's the last thing I remember."
Ruby's eyes snapped open. "Oh my gosh! Are they okay! What happened to them! Are they dead!"
"Calm down." Qrow said trying to calm Ruby down. "Jason and Jaune are in one piece."
"What about Pyrrha and Geoff?"
"As far as we know they are alive."
"But... where are they?" Ruby asked softly.
"We don't know." Qrow replied sadly. "Can you see any better? He asked changing the subject.
Ruby blinked and nodded. "Yeah. I can see now."
"That's good. Do you want something to eat or drink?"
"I'd like some water please."
Qrow left the room to get Ruby some water, and Ruby looked around the room.
"Yang?" Ruby asked.
"Hey there." Taiyang said from outside the door.
"Hi dad." Ruby said. "Where's Yang?"
Taiyang rubbed his face. "I'm not entirely sure how to say this..."
"YANG'S DEAD!" Ruby yelled before jumping out of bed and falling to the floor.
"What? No. No. Yang is not dead. She is very much alive."
"Oh." Ruby said as tears fell down her face, and her nose ran. "What's wrong?" She asked before hiccupping.
Ruby walked to the guest bedroom and knocked. "Yang? Can we talk?"
There was no answer.
Ruby opened the door... and immediately backed out and ran back to her room.
When Qrow saw Ruby run back into her room, jump into her bed, and pull the covers over her head he wasn't sure how to take that. "What's wrong kiddo?"
"It's so embarrassing!" Ruby shouted.
"What happened?"
"I walked into the guest room and saw Yang and Scott. They were doing stuff."
Qrow jumped out of his chair next to Ruby's bed, walked down to the guest room, and kicked it in. "What the hell do you think you're doing..." He yelled until he saw Scott on the floor helping Yang put her shoes on.
"I think I'm helping Yang with her shoes." Scott said matter of factly.
"Hey." Tai said. "What's going... What are you doing in my daughters' room!"
"I'm not taking advantage of your daughter, I like to think I'm a proper gentleman, I'm just helping Yang get ready for the day. You know, her shoes, socks, hair. Nothing vile."
"Who said you could do that?" Tai said.
"I asked her permission..."
"You need to get my permission to date my daughter!" Taiyang said.
"Same goes for my niece." Qrow said.
"So, I have to fight you both for the honor of dating Yang? Or I have to do seven labors? Or work for seven years?"
"If you can fight both of us and win, you can date Yang, so long as you treat her right." Tai said.
"I have no intention of hurting Yang."
"We know you won't hurt Yang." Qrow said. "She has people who will kill you and hide your body so no one will find it."
"Do you still want to fight me?"
Scott was sitting at the table. "So, what are we doing?" He asked.
The table was set for lunch.
"We are going to get to know each other over lunch." Tai said.
"What? Are you too good to have lunch with us?" Qrow asked.
"No." Scott said. "It's just that you wanted to fight not even an hour ago, and now we are having lunch. It just seems a little odd."
"Oh." Tai said. "So now we are odd?"
"No." Scott said. "Damn. Why is this so difficult?"
"Hear that Tai." Qrow said. "Now we're difficult."
"No." Scott said hurriedly. "I... Wait. You guys are doing this on purpose. Aren't you?"
"Are we?" Tai asked.
"Yes." Scott said flustered. "You guys are doing..."
Scott was stopped as a roast beef sandwich hit him in the face.
"What the hell was that?"
"Oh. You know." Tai said. "Food fight!"
Scott dropped under the table and upended it to use as a shield against the two Hunters. "Why the hell are you doing this?"
"Why not?" Tai asked. "We are fighting in a nonviolent way."
"And we get to see what you are made of." Qrow added. "As well as see how well you handle under pressure."
"But your house is going to be ruined."
"It's a small price to pay for making sure Yang will be happy." Tai said.
"..."
"..."
"..."
"With a food fight!?" Scott asked.
"Why not?" Qrow asked.
Scott looked over the table and was hit in the face with egg salad.
"Yokes on you." Tai said with a laugh.
Scott wiped the egg salad from his face and activated his semblance. He moved over to Tai and dumped a pitcher of water over his head. He moved over to Qrow and slipped on some egg salad and slipped into the wall.
When Scott's Semblance stopped Tai was sputtering ice water, and Qrow was laughing.
"I thought you'd try that." Qrow said. "So, I activated my Semblance first."
"What was the point of this besides making a mess?" Scott asked.
"Two reasons." Tai said. "If you can handle this without losing your cool then you can date Yang."
"And two?" Scott asked.
Qrow threw him a broom and dustpan. "This is your first of seven tasks."
Tai and Qrow left the room.
Scott picked up the table and moved it outside. He went back into the house and cleaned the kitchen before going back to grab the table.
He washed the table off and moved it back inside.
When that was done, he washed up and grabbed his gear before heading to the front room.
"I'm going to Vale to help clear it out. You guys want to come?"
"Sure." Jose said. "Let me grab my stuff."
"I'll go too." Gale said.
"Anyone else?" Scott asked.
"Why the hell not." Coral and Loki said in unison.
The group grabbed their battle gear and walked out the door.
When they got to the docks, they boarded a boat and left for Vale.
Vale.
When they stepped off the boat into Vale's shore, they saw the destruction, but also saw the dust in the air.
"How long do you think it will take to clear Vale?" Loki asked.
"Jason and I were killing Grimm for 8 to 12 hours a day for a week." Scott said. "When Jason left and it was only me, I was killing Grimm for 6 to 8 hours a day because that's how dangerous it was, and the work became that much slower. With the five of us. I think that we can clear out most of the Grimm by the end of the month, and Vale cleared by the end of next month."
"What about Beacon?"
"Let's hope we can get there sooner rather than later."
"Can we help?" A voice asked from behind them.
The group turned around to see…
"Professor Port." Scott said.
"Doctor Oobleck." Gale said.
"Professor Goodwitch." José said.
"Who are they?" Loki asked pointing behind the trio.
"We called in a few favors." Professor Port said.
"Vale may not be our physical home." A Huntress said. "But it's our Kingdom."
"You come here every day and put your life on the line to fight for the people who lost their homes." A Huntsman added. "We couldn't leave such a big task to you."
Scott felt something that he hadn't realized he was missing... Hope.
"In brightest day, in blackest night." José began putting his hand out.
"No evil shall escape our sight." Gale continued putting his hand on José's.
"Let all who worship evils might." Scott added before putting his hand on theirs.
"Beware our power, Green Lanterns light!" The trio said in unison before throwing their hands into the air.
"Stick together in groups of two or more." Scott said. "If it gets to be too much for you then pull out and regroup. Live to fight another day rather than die a hero's death."
With that the group went their separate ways.
"So, what was that chant that you guys did?" Loki asked.
"It's the oath of the Green Lantern Core." José said.
"What's a Green Lantern?" Coral asked.
"Basically, a group of individuals who protect planets from threats." Gale said.
"Usually intergalactic threats." José added.
"Well..." Coral began.
Coral was cut off by a pack of Beowulf.
Scott punched the Alpha in the face breaking its jaw before punching it in the chest Sending it skyward.
The other Beowulf attacked.
Coral danced out of the way of a Beowulf's claw and cut its arm off with 'Beckon' and cutting its back with 'Blush'.
Loki was changing the 'Multi blade' between the sword and spear mode trying to take out as many Beowulf as possible.
Gale was using his Parkour skills to jump around the battlefield and strike at normally hard to reach spots on the Grimm.
José was using his Cane to smack the Beowulf's arms out of the way. "Clear!" He yelled.
Scott grabbed Coral and dove behind José.
Gale grabbed Loki and pulled her behind José.
José changed 'Bengala Cavaleiro' to 'Trovado' and pressing the trigger and electrocuting a Beowulf and it chained to the rest.
"What the hell!?" Coral said. "What was that?!"
"My cane's ultimate form." José said. "Geoff would have called it 'shocking'."
They looked at José.
"We know." Scott said. "We know."
The group looked at the Beowulf pack, and saw that they were little more than charred remains.
"That's some attack." Loki said.
"You should see what else he can do with it." Gale said with a wink.
"You're two seconds away from a nightmare." Loki threatened.
"Shutting up."
"That's better."
The group walked through the remains of the Kingdom. Their seemingly Daunting task had just begun.
Somewhere on the outskirts of Remnant.
"Tyrian." A Woman with Pale skin said. "Forget the Spring Maiden. Get the girl..."
The madman named Tyrian began clapping his hands together and was about to start laughing when he was interrupted.
"...Alive." The woman added.
Tyrian looked put out until a twisted idea came to his mind. He looked at Cinder Fall. "An eye for an eye." He said in a maniacal tone before descending into a fit of laughter.
Cinder looked at Tyrian with disgust, or maybe envy.
On a farm in Mistral.
A farm boy with Dark hair, Hazel eyes, and a fair complexation jolted out of bed from a nightmare.
He saw burning Grimm invading an Arena before running away with a Blonde boy and a Red headed girl. They ran to a clocktower and took an elevator down to a vault. In the vault was a girl in a pod.
The Blonde boy proposed to the red head, so did that mean he was a blonde man? The Red head said yes and kissed him.
He instructed the red head to get in the pod.
The elevator was ripped open and a woman in a red dress came out. The Blonde man shot at her to keep her away, but she was too strong. She killed the first girl in the pod, and the red head and Blonde ran away.
He began attacking the girl in the red dress with his cane, a cane. Why a cane? What is a cane going to do?
Then everything went black and he woke up.
The farm boy got dressed and went about doing his chores. He was tending to the garden when he looked towards the mountain as if expecting something to happen.
When nothing did, he went back to the garden.
Ruby walked into the front room. "What's going on?" She asked.
"We are heading to Haven Academy." Jaune said.
"Why?"
"That's where Qrow said the trail leads. We are going to find Pyrrha and Geoff."
"Not without me you're not."
"Ruby..."
"No. Geoff and Pyrrha are my friends too. I want to help find them, and you can't stop me."
Team JNPR looked at each other.
"We're heading out tomorrow morning." Jaune said.
Ruby used her Semblance to hug them. "Wait. Where's Jason?"
Jaune rubbed the back of his head. "Jason left... a week ago. He said that he had to tell JADE's families what happened."
"What about Team SAPH?"
"They headed into Vale to Clear out the Grimm. They figure that if they can make it inhabitable again that they are at least helping."
"Oh. Okay." Ruby said before leaving the front room.
She walked to Yang's room.
"Yang?" She asked.
Yang stayed silent.
"I-I love you." Ruby said before heading to her room.
"Ruby." Yang said.
When Ruby looked back inside, she saw Yang Crying. She ran over to her hoping to cheer her up. "It will be all right."
"No." Yang said her voice cracking. "No, it won't. Beacons gone, Vale has fallen, Blake and Weiss are gone."
"What happened?"
"Weiss's dad came to pick her up, and Sun said that he saw Blake run away."
"What. Why?"
"Because. Apparently, that's all she can do."
"No. There has to be a..."
"No Ruby!" Yang snapped. "There doesn't always have to be a reason behind everything."
"But..."
"Just leave me alone Ruby."
Ruby ran back to her room in tears.
Yang went to wipe the tears from her eyes with her left hand but remembered. She started crying.
Later that night.
Ruby was asleep when she heard Yang Crying and yelling 'no.' She walked to Yang's room and saw Scott holding Yang while she cried.
"Don't worry." Scott whispered. "I'm here. I won't let him hurt you. Jason won't let him hurt you. Jason broke his sword. He can't hurt you anymore."
Yang was crying into Scott's shoulder.
Scott activated his Aura to act like a night light but shut it off when Yang pushed away from him in a panic.
"What's wrong?" Ruby asked.
"Shh." Scott whispered. "She had a bad dream."
"Why did she push away from you when you activated your Semblance?"
"The guy who took her arm might have had a similar colored Semblance or Weapon." Scott said reaching into his pocket and pulled out his Scroll. He turned on the flashlight and turned it upside down.
Yang Crawled back to Scott and hugged him.
Scott returned the Embrace and held her. He began humming a soothing melody.
"What is that song?" Ruby asked. "It sounds nice."
"It's a song my mother used to sing to me and my siblings when we got scared."
"You? Get scared?"
"I used to be scared of my own shadow."
"What did you do to get over it?"
"One day I told myself that I wouldn't be scared of anything, and I slowly became Braver, Stronger, and Faster."
"It's just hard to picture you as being scared of anything."
"This terrifies me. I hate feeling like this. I want to help, but I'm not sure how. I go to Vale every day, and try to make it better, but it feels like I take one step forward and get pushed three steps back. I don't know what to do, and I'm scared. I'm scared that I will be late when someone else needs me, and I fail even worse. What if Geoff isn't coming back?"
"You won't fail, and Geoff will come back."
"How can you be so sure?"
"Because of Jason. Look at everything that Jason has gone through, and he's still kickin' butt."
Scott chuckled. "You don't have to remind me."
Yang yawned and fell asleep in Scott's arms.
Scott picked Yang up bridal style and put her in the middle of her bed before tucking her in.
Ruby blushed.
Scott drew the curtains closed and laid down on the floor.
Ruby ran back to her room and grabbed a blanket and a pillow from Yang's bed. She took them back to Scott. "Here you go."
"Thanks." Scott said putting the pillow under his head, and the blanket to the side.
"Good night." Ruby said.
"Good night." Scott replied.
When Ruby woke up the next morning, she went to check on Yang.
Scott was brushing Yang's hair for her. He tied a bow in it to keep it out of her face and kissed her on the head before walking out.
Yang grabbed his hand and squeezed it a little. "I-I'll see you tonight?" She asked, her voice almost pleading.
"Of course." Scott said squeezing her hand back.
Yang let go and let Scott leave.
"Hi Yang." Ruby said.
Yang stared out the window.
"Goodbye." Ruby whispered.
Ruby walked outside to see that the first Snow had fallen, and Jaune, Ren, and Nora were waiting for her. "Are You guy's ready?" She asked.
"Let's go get our friends." Nora said.
The group of friends began walking. Hoping against all hope that they would find their friends at the end of their Journey.
Yang was in her room when she heard something drop and her dad start calling for Ruby.
She looked outside, and saw a crow sitting on a tree. The crow cleaned its feathers before flying off.
She watched the snow fall and hoped that better times were ahead.
AN: So, here's a look in on how Ruby, Yang, Team SAPH, JNPR, Loki, Coral, Qrow, and Tai are doing. A little fluff, some overprotective dad and uncle, some fighting to clear Beacon. Checking in on Salem, and Oscar, and the beginning of Team RNGR, and Team SAPH has nerd a moment. Enjoy.
