It also helped that just yesterday; Judy called and advised the drama with Bellamy's little escapade was finally quashed. She broke down the details of everything, and both she and Tony were in shock. They didn't know the details behind Bellamy's actions, or the way she met the reporter. But, they were glad that Judy was able to get the matter resolved. The call gave Tony and Kerry some relief, and it renewed their belief that even still, this could work out. Despite Kerry being very angry at Bellamy for her actions; she found herself calming down as Tony always manages to do. After her anger subsided, she was able to take a breath, and be thankful for the outcome.
However, during the conversation, Judy again made sure they were aware of how to be more careful when they're out and about, and reminded them to be skeptical of who they allow in their circle. It was a painstaking conversation, but it was also very necessary. She remembers feeling for the first time, in a long time, this was all worth it. For them to be together, if this is what they needed to do. It was worth it.
As she stands in wonderment and completely unaware of her surroundings, she comes to reality by hearing her name being called. Suddenly she hears, "Ker, are you okay?" She looks up and sees Tony standing next to her looking concerned and confused. She responds, "Yeah, I'm okay." He replies, "So are you saying you meant to overflow the sink?" She doesn't understand his question, until she looks down and sees the water on the floor.
She then realizes what's going on, as she says, "Oh my God!" He sees her reaction and says, "Baby, what's going on with you this morning? First you almost loose Josie on our walk this morning, by dropping her leash while you were in thought. Now you're overflowing the sink. What's got you so off kilter?" She wants to say nothing, or find some way of blowing it off. But, she knows that's not going to work. His concern is valid and she owes him an explanation.
She watches as he puts down some towels, to soak up the water. He guides her out of the bathroom safely, making sure she doesn't slip and fall. When the water is cleaned up; he comes out of the bathroom and sits next to her, as she sits on the bed.
He sees her mulling over her thoughts as she looks down. He lifts her head up gently with his hand as he lovingly says, "Ker, please talk to me." She responds, "You promise not to get mad at me?" He looks at her with some confusion in his eyes, as he asks, "Why would I get mad at you?" She sighs as she says, "Don't answer my question with a question, it's annoying and rude." Tony patiently replies, "Okay. I'm sorry. No, I won't get mad if you tell me what's going on with you."
She sees the pleading in his eyes, and says, "I'm worried about dealing with Shonda today babe." He sees how sad she looks, and although he's annoyed with her wanting so badly to keep things cool with her. He doesn't want to add to her stress, so he tables what he wants to say and thinks of a more sensitive response.
He takes her hand, and says, "Baby, we've been over this already. You agreed we are in the right on this. So, what's got you so nervous about talking to Shonda?" She takes a breath, as she says, "I considered her a friend babe, and now that she's not returning my phone calls and she ignored me at the charity event. I think it's safe to say she's no longer my friend." Tony hates to see her so upset over this, mainly because he knows that Shonda could care less about her. For her, this is just a power play. Nonetheless, he knows Kerry is different, and it's one of the things he loves about her. She has a huge heart, and when she cares about you. She can't just stop caring, even if you don't deserve her affection.
Knowing the situation is still delicate, but not wanting her to take on all the responsibility for this situation. He says, "Baby, I know you're struggling here, and I wish I could say something that could take away your anxiety about being around her. But, we both know there's nothing I can say or do, that will change how you're feeling right now about her.
So, I will simply tell you this. No matter what, I am here for you. And, I know you looked forward to being friends with her. But baby, she's the one who took this personally and she's the one who's putting stress on your friendship, by the way she's acting. So this is her cross to bear, not ours. If she's really your friend she'll let this go, and she won't make you feel guilty; or attack either one of us for making this move.
She listens to him, but her doubts are taking over, as she says, "I understand what you're saying Tony. I just feel bad about it. Like maybe we could've done it a different way; maybe she feels ambushed." Tony is trying to keep his calm, because it's taking everything in him not to call bullshit on Shonda's hurt feelings. However, his patience is wearing thin, and he's struggling to keep his comments nice. He takes a breath, as he says, "Kerry, we didn't plan this. It happened suddenly and we reacted with the best interest of all of us in mind. Notifying Shonda first wasn't our priority, taking care of the situation was the first step we needed to take. So tell me, what could we have done differently?"
Kerry can hear his tone changing, she knows he's getting annoyed with her holding on to this. She knows he's said the same thing a thousand times, and every time he says it she agrees with him. But somehow, she ends up wrestling with guilt about how things were handled repeatedly. The back and forth on this matter is killing her, and bugging the hell out of him too.
In thinking about his question; she says, "We could've given her a heads up in advance of what happened." Tony says, "Okay, and then what would she have done differently than what we did, meaning calling Judy?" Kerry looks at him, and says, "T, I know you're right. I'm sorry for rehashing this. It's just stuck in my head." His heart aches for her, but he needs to say this to her and he hopes she hears him. He says, "Ker, you don't owe me an apology. I understand your conflict." She gives him a look of surprise, as she asks, "You do?"
He nods as he says, "Yes. I get why you're upset. It's because you value your relationships. You are the kindest, sweetest, and most loving person I've ever known, and it's one of the things I love about you the most. You treasure people and when you genuinely like someone, you're committed to them. But baby, not everybody deserves your loyalty or your love. Some people take advantage of that quality in others, and that's what I see when I look at Shonda. Quite frankly, that's what she's doing right now."
