Randy and I walk downstairs together. He pulls out a chair for me to sit on. The others stare at us as he sits next to me.
"Nice of you two to finally join us." Ted says.
"Finally?" I ask. "What do you mean finally?"
"We know that you two have been up for quite awhile."
"You notice that your brothers aren't here, Rissa?" John says.
"Yeah…why?" I reply.
"You two scarred them for life."
"It wasn't just them." Cody mutters.
"What do you mean we scarred them?" I ask. "Apparently Cody as well."
"We heard you two practicing baby-making for quite some time while you were upstairs."
Randy rolls his eyes. "And?"
"Y'all were loud." Chelle says.
"Why does that matter?" I ask. "Last I checked, it's my birthday, and this is our house."
"Plus, you have heard us before." Randy adds. "And I'm not gonna name names, but we've heard some of y'all in this house too. And I'm the one who bought it."
I laugh. "He's got a good point. I'm the only one who is supposed to mooch off of him."
"I knew that's why we got married. You just wanted to get into my money."
"We both know that's a lie."
"Yeah. But if I'm gonna hear the rest of you in my home, you're gonna hear us."
"Also, Cody gets pancakes, but no one makes me anything for my birthday."
"In my defense, I was making the bed with you." Randy says as he wraps his arm around me. "I'll make you some food."
"You are incapable of not burning toast. Don't make me anything."
"I can too."
Chelle gets up. "I'll cook you some waffles and bacon."
I smile innocently. "Thank you."
Randy looks at me and whispers. "What a guilt trip."
"Shut up."
After we finish eating, Colby and Tyler walk in.
"They're down here, Tyler." Colby says. "Just avoid all eye contact."
"It's back in my head." Tyler says. "I need it out of my head. It's ruined my whole life."
"I would tell you to just forget about it, but I don't even think I can honestly."
I roll my eyes. "Stop being overdramatic. We're all three adults here. Be mature. You two may not understand because you're lame, but I'm a grown woman who's literally married. It's pretty much a given that I'm sexually active."
Tyler looks at me. "But I still look at you as my sweet, innocent little sister. And on top of that, Randy is one of my best friends. No one wants to think of that going on with his best friend and little sister."
Ted starts laughing. "Sweet and innocent? Man, you have a lot to catch up on, Tyler."
"Don't ruin it even more for me, Ted."
"Well it's true. She's mean and cruel."
"Why you gotta talk about me like that?" I ask.
"I'm not wrong."
"Anyway," Tyler says. "Rissa, I don't want to hear that ever again."
"Get earplugs." I reply.
"Be quieter."
"It's my house. No."
Randy pulls me into his arms. "If only you knew how long we've been sleeping together."
I laugh. "Yeah, losers. If you only knew."
Tyler rolls his eyes. "Like since 2009? That's only a few years."
Colby snorts, trying not to laugh. "Even I know that they slept together before 2009."
"Wait, when did you two sleep together before that? And why didn't I know?"
I look at the ground. "There was a good number of times before 2009."
"When was the first time?"
"What year is it?" Randy asks. "2011? The first time was in 2001."
"No! You were…it was you? She was only nineteen."
"Nineteen and consenting." I comment.
"You didn't tell me it was him."
"Because you would've freaked out. Geez. Let's talk about something else."
"Actually…" Randy says. "I have something to show you. Let's go."
"Oh. Um okay."
Randy grabs my hand and drags me behind him. As we head towards the workout room, he turns towards me.
"Listen, I'm going to cover your eyes to walk in here. Trust me. I won't let you fall. Okay?"
I nod. "Okay."
Randy covers my eyes with one hand and leads me with the other. He opens the door and holds me as we walk to make sure I don't fall down the stairs. We walk into the room some.
Randy uncovers my eyes. "Happy birthday, beautiful."
I stand in shock. "Oh my…Randy…is that a…"
Randy grabs me from behind. "A wrestling ring."
"Oh my god. Why?"
"You bitch about us having to go far to train and maybe in a scenario where one of us happens to be injured. We can knock the ring rust off at home."
I smile. "Thank you, baby. How'd you do it?"
"People came and set it up when I took you and Colby to lunch."
"Oh. Well thank you."
"You're welcome." Randy kisses my forehead. "I try my best to make you happy."
I nod. "Well great job."
"Thanks." Randy pulls me into a kiss. "I love you so much."
I kiss him back. "I love you too. Thank you so much, Randy."
"No problem."
Randy and I stop kissing. We walk back around to the dining room while I can't stop grinning.
"What'd you show her?" Chelle asks Randy.
"He got me a ring." I say with a big smile.
"Why aren't you wearing it?"
"It's not that kind of ring."
Randy laughs. "I'm a bit unconventional."
Chelle looks at us confused. "What kind of ring is…a wrestling ring?"
"Yeah…" Randy says as I lean on him. "I'm pretty proud of myself."
"Why? I mean, no offense, but that's pretty weird."
Randy wraps his arm around me. "Rissa has been complaining about us having to go far to train, and if one of us is injured, we can knock off ring rust at home. I solved the problem, and she's happy."
I nod. "Yeah. Anyway, it's my birthday, and I'm bored. I'm gonna get some alcohol. Don't judge."
Randy looks over at me. "Wanna share?"
"Only with you."
I slowly walk downstairs with Randy. The others are sitting at the table with a cake in the middle. Randy and I sit down. Chelle lights the candles.
"I am gonna get sentimental here for a few before y'all sing to me." I say.
"Can it wait?" Chelle asks.
"Why?"
"Surprise!"
I turn around and see friends and some of Randy's family and my cousin Kenny all around.
I feel tears in my eyes. "Oh my gosh. Thank you. Randy, was this you?"
Randy smiles. "Maybe…"
"I'm so lucky. I'm gonna get sentimental now. I could've been stuck with some lame friends who never did anything with me. Who barely cared. But you guys are amazing. I have amazing friends and an amazing family. I'm so blessed. This is great. I'm sorry. I'm not usually this emotional but…this is just…"
"Rissa, we need to sing happy birthday to you before the candles melt."
I nod. "Okay. I'll continue later."
Randy nods before grabbing my hand. As everyone sings happy birthday to me, I feel more tears. Randy wipes them away. I blow out the candles.
Chelle cuts the cake.
I look at Randy. "I love you."
Randy looks back at me too. "I love you too."
I kiss him. He held me close.
"I hope you know I have to go wild this year. It's my last year of being in my twenties. Not too wild, but wild." I whisper.
Randy nods. "Okay. I'm cool with that. Hell, I will go wild with you. We can start tonight."
Chelle passes me a plate with a piece of cake and some mint chocolate chip ice cream. "Here, birthday girl. Randal, you're next."
"Thanks." I look at Randy. "Mint chocolate chip? Pulling out all the stops for me?"
"Of course." Randy says as Chelle hands him his plate. "That's what I do."
"Thank you. I'm feeling special right now."
"You're supposed to."
