Chapter 6: Tranced in Dreams
It has been a week they have went for wedding shopping and Jason started his work at Jupiter airlines. Piper didn't know what to do after her little conversation with Annabeth. She wanted to ask Jason, she really wanted to even though Annabeth's advice seemed comforting. But, the dream she has been having for the past few days, the reason she even said anything to Annabeth, is making her situation worse. She was fidgeting with her ring, in her cabin, tranced into deep thinking, when suddenly there was a knock on the door. Still in a trance, she went to open the door to only see Jason, but not processing that he's there. She could hear a faint mumble of someone calling her name.
"Piper..Piper". No reply. This time Jason started shaking her arms, trying to get her out of the trance, starting to get worried when she finally realizes that he is standing in front of her.
"...huh?"
"Are you okay? You got me worried right there... What's bothering you?" he asked.
Piper didn't know how to say that it was a stupid dream that was bothering her. A stupid dream that has been haunting her the past dew days. A stupid dream that has been questioning their relationship.
"It's nothing..." she said blankly staring at the ground.
Jason lifted her chin up with his finger. But, piper refused to look him straight in the eyes.
"Then how come you are not at the mess hall for dinner?"
"I...I forgot." she replied matter of factly still not looking him in the eyes because Piper knew. Piper knew that once she does, Jason will be able to get her to tell the truth. While it may seem that questioning him about their relationship is not a big deal, especially at this stage of their relationship, Piper didn't know how to say it. And besides it didn't seem right to blurt out "Are you sure?" in front of you fiance after he has proved many times that he cares and loves you very much. But the dream, surely it has to mean something right? After all, she was a demigod and demigod dreams almost always project what will happen in the future. If it was just a one-time dream, Piper would have been able to brush it off. But, this dream had started last weekend and it wouldn't stop. Piper would wake up at 2:20 AM, exactly at that time every day ever since it has started, sweating. And this was probably why Annabeth has sensed that there was something wrong, as she and Percy had been in similar situations before.
"Piper"
"...Yes"
"You really think I would believe that you forgot?" She doesn't reply to that.
"Did you have lunch?"
"...ahuh"
To that, Jason sighs "How come Lacy says otherwise?..." She doesn't reply.
He waits for a minute, hoping she would say something. But, she doesn't and continues to look faraway. Jason decides to leave at that point. Something is definitely wrong. It was not like Piper to not eat. She even had a healthy schedule that she maintained every day. And that faraway look as if she was trying to contemplate something but not being able to. Troubled with Piper's behavior, Jason left Piper alone. Even after he was gone, Piper still stands outside the cabin, appearing like a pale ghost to campers coming back from the mess hall. She started fidgeting with her ring again and was about to go back to her cabin and into the trance she was in, when she felt his hand on her shoulder and his voice commanding her to "Stop." She turns around to see him with a troubled expression as if he was trying to scrutinize why she was behaving this way.
"Jase..I don't want to ta..." He cuts her off by "I know. You don't have to tell me until you are ready. But, walk with me."
After a few minutes of silence, she says "No, Chiron will.." He cuts her off again mid-sentence.
"Piper, I did not ask. You are coming with me." He says offering his hand to her. She doesn't know what to do. She could not ignore him, it would only make the matter worse. Hesitatingly, she takes his hand and they begin to walk. Jason stops at his cabin opening the door allowing Piper to enter first.
"Sit" He commands.
"Jase..I" He cuts her off again.
"I don't want to hear it Piper. You sit here and I will be back in a minute. For now, drink the smoothie [if you didn't understand he left her to bring a smoothie. I'm sorry if my narrating style is a bit jumbled up.] I expect it to be at least halfway done by the time I come back." He leaves with a confused Piper sitting on the only sofa at cabin one. Jason brought Piper's favorite strawberry banana smoothie and the thought of food has suddenly made Piper's stomach grumbling. Piper was ignoring her stomach's since the last two days. She had ignored her siblings concerns the past few days successfully. She was also successfully able to avoid Jason with him being busy with the start of his mortal career, but she should have known that it wouldn't last.
"I got you food. I expect this to be finished as well." He said looking at Piper who had completed the entire drink by the time he was back. She was really hungry, and Piper could be stubborn when something was bothering her. This was the reason he brought an extra smoothie just in case, being the awesome boyfriend sorry the awesome fiance he was. Piper did not say anything. He did his best to cover his worry, but Piper knew very well. He set the plate down on the coffee table, so she would start eating, but instead she stood up and hugged him tightly and started crying.
"Shh..Shh..I'm here, I got you." he replied softly hugging her back.
"I don't deserve you. The dreams..." She said while letting her tears out. Only then did she realize that she shouldn't have said anything.
"What dreams? Piper..are you having nightmares?" he asked letting go of her, so he can look her at the eyes.
Silence again.
"...Piper, it's fine if you don't want to talk about it. But it would make us both feel better, if you eat" he said caressing her face. At that point, she decided to look at his eyes. His forehead was creased expressing worry, his eyes intent showing concern. She didn't like doing this to him, and so she attempts to smile, for the sake of the both of them, hoping maybe the dreams would stop today. After she ate, they both fell asleep, cuddled next to each other on Jason's bunk. They didn't care if they will receive punishment tomorrow. Today, Piper needed Jason.
The dream started again, this time much worse, making her wake up at exactly 2:20 again. Piper was sweating, and as she recalled the dream she felt the urge to cry. But, she didn't want to wake Jason. He was sleeping peacefully with his arm strongly wrapped around Piper's waist. Knowing that he would wake up if she started to cry, Piper fought the urge and managed her nerves. His face was peaceful, but his forehead was creased at the same time as if he was experiencing a bad dream or maybe it was because of Piper's sudden movement when she woke up from the dream. She carefully kissed his forehead and tried to fall asleep, only to experience the same dream, but this time with the ending as well...
So what is Piper dreaming? Is it linked to Reyna or something else? Find out in the next chapter. Most likely will publish the ch.7 next week!
