Regardless of her remark; she can't believe the level of hypocrisy in her statement, and she calls her out on it. As she says, "You're a hypocrite."
Shonda replies, "What?" Kerry says, "You heard me. You talk about feminism, and women getting things done despite the adversity we face from gender bias, and even racism as a black woman. Which I respect, and support. But, because I hit a nerve with you, you're now trying to paint yourself as a successful, strong, intelligent woman. But, you're attributing all of my success to my looks, and attempting to shame me for my looks! Which is pure jealousy. I guess your feminism flag only flies high when you're not intimidated by the other woman, huh?"
Shonda's eyes widen as she chuckles and says, "Intimidated by who? You think you intimidate me? You're out of your damn mind. I don't have a reason to be intimidated by you."
Kerry responds, "You're right. You don't have a reason to be intimidated by me. But your insecurities are screwing with your head. You know that I'm more than looks; that I am just as bright as you are, and just as talented in many ways. So, you see me as a threat; despite that not even remotely being the case!" Her words piss Shonda off completely, as she says, "How dare you say that to me!"
Kerry responds, "On the contrary Shonda, how dare I not say it to you. Somebody has to. Because you're out of control. Look at how you went off on Henry. You know that was uncalled for!"
Shonda scoffs, "You're crazy! I'm quite controlled thank you. I handled him the way I needed to. He knows his place now. Doesn't he? I'm not out of control. I'm just under my own power; not under the spell of some man's dick, like you! Trading in my freedom for a steady fuck, or whatever you two call yourselves doing!"
Kerry knows she's trying to hit another nerve with her; by attacking her relationship with Tony. She could bring up how petty and jealous she sounds right now; or even her failed chases of men, only to be let down. But she decides enough is enough, and with her phone buzzing again. She knows she has to go. She looks up at Shonda, and shakes her head.
The way she's looking at her, with so much pity in her eyes. Causes Shonda's insecurities to flare up, as she demands, "Don't look at me like that! The fact remains; you're letting him weaken you, and you don't even see it. If you were a real woman; you'd see that you don't need a man to take care of your problems. You take care of them yourself."
Kerry reaches out for the door, and turns back to Shonda as she says, "You are so misguided on this; I don't even know where to start. And it's apparent you wouldn't listen anyway. So, I'll leave you with this. A real woman can do it all by herself Shonda. But a real man won't let her. Good-bye Shonda."
Before Shonda can respond; she sees the door open and close, with Kerry walking through it. When the door closes behind Kerry, she walks out her office. Marjorie isn't at her desk; so she keeps walking, looking straight ahead, and into the rest room.
She goes into the stall, and catches her breath; trying to decompress from the craziness she just experienced. As she tries to digest it all; her phone buzzes again. She takes the phone out of her pocket, and sees she has a missed call and a text from Judy.
She thinks to herself, what now? As she attempts to settle her mind. Her phone now rings, and it's Tony. She needs to talk to him; but she doesn't want to. So she watches the screen light up, unsure of whether or not to take the call.
Thank you for reading this fan fiction tale; I appreciate your interest. Well, Kerry finally talked with Shonda. How do you think it went? Also, what did you make of Shonda's treatment of Henry? Was her reaction fair? Was he challenging her? Or just asking for clarification. Also did you catch some of Shonda's snide remarks in the meeting with the cast, as well as with Kerry?
In the next installment we find out about Judy's missed call, and what Tony is calling about. We also address the upcoming changes in the script, and how those changes affect everyone. Tony remained calm during the meeting; but will he manage to do that after this shift? All this and more in the next installment of Timing is Everything.
