While they are both relieved that Judy was able to get to the bottom of this so quickly, and resolve it without them knowing it was an issue. They both realize this makes their ongoing work life more uncomfortable. Tony says, "Well this should make work even more interesting."
Judy responds, "I know it's going to be tough for both of you. I can't imagine the level of stress you're dealing with now. Let alone this new wrinkle added to the equation. But, I want you to know I've got your backs."
Kerry replies, "It's great to know you're working hard for us Judy. It's just disheartening to know that you have to do that." Judy says, "I know Kerry. But it's no big deal for me. I've dealt with meaner and tougher people than Shonda. She and I have an understanding, and I think she knows where we stand. So, you're fine as far as this is concerned. Despite knowing it's inevitable; I'm hopeful there's not much fallout from this on set."
Tony says, "Well, that's what buyout clauses are meant for, and I have a good one." Kerry looks at him as the words leave his lips; she didn't want to think about either one of them not being on the show anymore. But, they've always known it could happen. So she concedes by saying, "So I guess we need to be ready, just in case." Judy sighs as she says, "Given the fact that she has full control over there right now. I think that's the wisest thing you both could do. Especially you Tony."
Tony nods in agreement, as he says, "I understand. Thanks again for taking care of this for us." She nods as she says, "No problem; I'm happy I could help. Was there anything else I could answer for either one of you?"
Tony and Kerry look at one another, and Kerry says, "No. That's it. Thanks again Judy. Goodnight." The call ends, and Kerry sits back, without even realizing it; she's leaning on Tony, and he pulls her into his arms. Since Josie has finally abandoned his lap.
All the anger and frustration they both felt before that call, are gone. All they want to do is sit in silence for a moment and process what's happening. The idea that this was supposed to be a dream project for them; something they both could do together and do well.
Only to now be told that it could potentially be interrupted early, because of jealousy and manipulation on the part of someone close to them; is hurtful and infuriating. All because she wants to be in control.
Kerry breaks the silence as she says, "Damn her!" Tony kisses the crook of her neck, as he says, "I know baby. It's insane. But it is what it is. Regardless of what happens we will be fine. She can write off my character; it's up to her. But, that doesn't stop us."
She looks at him, and she sees him staring back into her eyes, as she says, "You promise." He cups her face as she straightens up into his lap, and says, "Yes, baby. I promise. No matter what; you and I will be together." His words do give her some comfort; but she's still annoyed by Shonda's antics. She's not sure though if she's more upset at the audacity of her trying to pull this off. Or the fact that she didn't think she'd get caught.
Tony sees her in thought, and he pecks her lips as he says, "What's got your mind going?" She sighs as she says, "Just her tomfoolery. She's never been my friend T. She's not even a feminist. She's just fucking bitter and jealous."
Although he's happy to hear this admission; he knows how much it hurts her to say this out loud. He also sees the hurt in her eyes. He knows now there's more to the story behind these emotions he's seeing bubbling up in her. So he knows it must be coming from her talk with Shonda earlier today. Mindfully, he takes a breath and lovingly asks, "Where's all this emotion coming from Ker?"
Kerry takes a breath as well, and says, "It's coming from the conversation I had with her earlier. We had it out when I went to her office today. That's why I wasn't answering your calls. I was too busy going round for round with her crazy, spiteful, lonely ass." He wants to laugh, because she's adorable when she's angry; but he harnesses his itch to laugh, as he says, "Wow. Why did you end up arguing? I thought you went to her to clear the air?"
Kerry nods as she says, "Yeah. So did I. You know, wipe the slate clean. But, apparently that wasn't her plan. She got angry with me when I read her for the fake feminist that she is, and the overbearing nightmare of a personality she can be. And she didn't like it. So I lost it." She goes into detail about the conversation, and he's floored at how Shonda attacked her; but he is so proud at how she handled her, and that she walked out on her.
He now understands why she didn't answer his call. Between the actual argument and the after effects of the conversation with Shonda. She simply needed a minute to collect herself. He sees her still wrestling with her emotions from the moment, and he simply holds her. She falls back into his chest, and lets him hold her as she relaxes, and even begins to sob.
