It's a declaration that has left everyone scratching their heads at it's meaning and intensity, considering the fact that their marriage was long over before Tony met Kerry. And, it's obvious that despite her having had relations for several years with someone. What she's now upset about is that Tony isn't just dating other women anymore; he's in love and moving on with another woman. The reality is Jane has always had the fact that she's the only mother of his children, and has held the title of being his wife over two decades, and in the last year she has lost the title of being his wife, and soon will lose the title of being the only mother of his children too.
With all of this swirling around them, still Kerry was trying to keep a positive and open mind; mostly to Tony's urging, along with Columbus and Liz. They all have been amazing lately redirecting her focus, to the better parts of what's unfolding for her and Tony. They all are pushing the narrative that something beautiful is growing out of the darkness that they've been in for so long. Something beautiful and long lasting to coming, and bearing fruit with every day that passes.
Shifting her focus back to the positives in her life; she takes stock in that perspective, and continues to push herself to see the brighter side of things. She takes a breath in this moment and thinks, who would've thought she'd be invited to the Whitehouse? Although it's not just her; but the entire cast. It's still a very big deal. She beams, remembering her parent's reaction when she told them. They couldn't believe she was actually going to the White House Correspondence dinner, and meeting President Barack Obama, along with the first lady Michelle Obama.
The moment the announcement was made, it felt like all of the craziness she's endured from Shonda was worth it, if it got her to this point. In addition to being invited to the White House, she's accrued several award nominations for her performance on the show. From last season thru the second she's received two Golden globe nominations, four prime time Emmy nominations, 4 BET nominations, and 4 Image award nominations. With her winning 2 Image awards and 2 BET awards, she's flying high and excited about all of the recognition she's receiving. With a collection of both main stream and ancillary level award nominations and wins; she's insanely proud of how well her career is going, and more is on the way.
With season two coming to a close with an overwhelmingly strong show in the ratings, despite the twists and turns she and Tony had endured with Shonda's antics on screen and off. She can finally breathe and begin to enjoy life as she knew it. Excitedly, just as the season wrapped, she got two more sponsorship contracts with Cover Girl and Christian Louboutin. Which is a huge upward boost for her personal career.
She's also working on a line of nail polishes with OPI, to produce her own line of nail polishes. Personally and financially, life is good regardless of her work on Scandal. Her brand is thriving, which makes her so very happy because it puts her closer and closer to her goals.
In respect to Scandal, the last leg of her and Tony's promotional tour for the show went over like gangbusters. But disturbingly, as of late the fandom for the show has experienced two additional divisions within the fandom.
Originally, their fans were called gladiators, and then there was the birth of Olitz for Olivia and Fitz. Which was an overwhelming degree of the fan base. However, in the wake of Olivia being paired now with Jake on the show; there's a rival group forming within the fandom called Olake. Which supports Olivia and Jake being a couple, the actor is played by Scott Foley.
Reading the tweets and face book posts on various fan pages; it's obvious that the passion of the fans can't be denied between these groups of gladiators, they are fiercely competitive. But it's noted that most of the original gladiators are in fact Olitzers, because they remember the show from it's beginning, when there was just Olivia and Fitz.
This is a time Kerry too preferred, along with Tony. However, with Shonda's persistence and petulant behavior, as a way to break up the Olitz fandom, out of spite. She elected to introduce another interest into the show to derail the Olitz train. Her disdain for Olitz has been quite noticeable and almost concerning in a way. Because she's managed to get into twitter beefs with fans who have begun criticizing her move of introducing Olake as an alternative to Olitz. It also annoyed her when network execs from ABC and other networks also professed their dislike for her inherent push of a love triangle; because the premise of the show seemed to be getting lost.
Of course Kerry and Tony both had the same perspective, but of course Shonda wanted no parts of hearing their take. Even Tom weighed in, and she shot him down too therefore proving once again it's all about her and what she wants despite what everyone else sees.
But by Shonda not being one to take criticism well, this is what has led to the crazy arguments she's been involved in with fans. As if that wasn't enough to make anyone's head spin; the fourth splinter of fans that have emerged within the fan base are people who call themselves Terries. These are people who ship possibly Olitz as well as the idea of Tony and Kerry being a real couple.
This development within the fandom is the one grouping that Kerry and Tony both tried to dismiss. Because giving into it obviously high jacks their plans. But, this group within the fandom is probably more rabid than Olitzers and Olake fans put together.
The existence of the fan base seemed to come alive after three photo shoots Tony and Kerry did together. One was the TV guide shoot, and their beliefs were deepened with both of the Entertainment Weekly shoots. Admittedly, those were two of the most intimate shots Kerry and Tony ever took publicly. And the moment they both saw them; they had a feeling they'd come back to bite them.
However, they tried to convince themselves that the excitement over the photos, would just bring more excitement for the show. They were right in that assessment and both Entertainment Weekly and TV Guide had record sales for the issues they graced the cover of.
The fervor for Terry fans was real and powerful. She remembers looking at Tony after they heard about the groups enthusiasm. Quietly, they appreciated how their love seemed to shine from every crack and crevice. But the idea of their love being public also threatened their long structured plan of how they'd go public, or if they'd ever be public.
Needless to say they've been on a public relations tour as of late, trying to diffuse some of the noise. But it's not actually working. If anything the roar of Terry is growing, despite Tony doing a better job of fielding questions about Jane and talking about Tess and Anna more.
