Moving forward.
Part one.
(Notes: Hello everyone! I am really nervous about this I never really planned on writing a fic but I decided to give it a shot. this will be my first superarrow fic. It will definitely be a two-part story possibly a three-part story depending on how well everything goes. this is a Kariver or Superarrow story through and through. I love this pairing for so many reasons! Inspiration comes from A couple of my favorite writers on here and a friend from Tumblr who wishes to remain anonymous.
(Update: this is sort of a revision with edits and fixes to help make the story a better read. this is my first crack at writing a story so there is bound to be things that could've been better or edited better but I hope you enjoy! more chapters coming soon.- beta read and co-revised by a friend of mine who wishes to remain anonymous)
Description: Oliver and Kara have been keeping in touch and visiting each other frequently since the invasion of earth X. Some might even say they're dating though they haven't made anything official yet. so when a natural disaster strikes while Kara has no powers after duking it out with a government android that drains her powers Oliver decides to step in and help national city anyway he can for her. Will it end badly or will Oliver come out the other end better for it and realize that his past doesn't have to dictate his future. Will he realize that he too deserves a shot at real happiness?)
"This happens to Superman too, right? Where he loses his powers for a couple of days?" Oliver asked as he walked with Kara and her sister Alex through the halls of the DEO.
Kara stopped and turned to her two companions. "Yeah... but it's been two days and I don't feel any different," she answered before sitting in a chair at one of the random tables spread about the DEO. Alex sat on top of the table facing Kara, legs hanging off the edge, arms crossed. Oliver sat in a chair on her opposite side.
"You're probably just going stir-crazy because the DEO has been testing you all weekend," Alex added, trying to lighten the mood of the situation.
Oliver continued what Alex was going for. "Well look at it this way, you get to go out in the real world and see what it's like to be human for a day. Who knows, maybe this is a good opportunity for your sister and I to teach you to defend yourself without your powers, should this ever happen again." Oliver chuckled lightly as Alex perked up at this.
"Oh that is such a good idea! Actually skills like ours would be useful even with your powers... I don't know why I haven't thought of this sooner."
The three laughed before Kara spoke up. "Well, hopefully things can remain slow for the next couple of days or so." Kara sighed leaning back in her chair.
Alex put a hand on her sister's shoulder before getting up and turning to the pair. "Well until you're ready to get back out there, the DEO will have things handled... you know this."
Oliver nodded in agreement. "I'll help in anyway I can as well, and I'll stay as long as you need me to. It's not like National City hasn't seen the Emerald Archer before," Oliver smirked referring to the fact that both he and Kara have been staying in touch and actually visiting each other since the battle with their doppelgangers from Earth-X. One might even call what has been going on between the two as dating, though the two haven't made anything official yet. This is mainly due to Oliver's apprehension because of his past. He hasn't exactly had the best luck with relationships recently and he's worried he will burden Kara with his darkness.
"Well I'm gonna go to the command center with J'onn. I'll talk to you two later," Alex said as Oliver and Kara told her bye and she walked off.
Kara smiled at Oliver. "You know, I still think it's funny that you let the name Emerald Archer stick here in National City. I thought you would've preferred Green Arrow like back in your world."
Oliver chuckled. "Well it's hard to argue with Miss Grant, plus it's growing on me and I think it's unique for this world. I know that Barry likes that she named him the Scarlet Speedster." The two laughed and chatted for a little bit.
"Hey, what do you say we go get something to eat?" Kara asks. "I'm starving. You know I have to eat like thousands of calories."
Oliver smiled lightly. "You know I still find that really impressive... I thought I'd seen it all when Barry eats."
As soon as the two stood up out of their chairs, the building started shaking violently and Kara fell forward into Oliver, who fell back to the ground. He instinctively wrapped his arms around her and rolled them under the table and got on top of her. The shaking lasted about 30 seconds. All the two could do is hide under the table and hope for the best as mother nature shook them.
Kara has been in one of these before. The one she was in, while still dangerous, was much less violent than this one. Now with no powers she understood just how terrifying an earthquake really is. Once the shaking was over the two got out from under the table. Kara hissed in pain. She must've not noticed nor did Oliver, but when she fell into him she tried to use one of her hands to cushion the blow of them falling on the floor. In doing so she broke her wrist.
"Hey, it's OK. Let me see," Oliver asked.
She presented her wrist to him and he could clearly see it was broken. "It must have happened when we fell. I guess your adrenaline kicked in or whatever it is Kryptonians have. I know it hurts, but I'm gonna have to set the bone back into place, and then we can splint it until we get you into a cast."
Kara looked up at him horrified. "You're going to what?!"
Oliver gave her a reassuring look. "You trust me right?"
Kara bit her lip before looking him in his eyes. "I do..."
Oliver nodded and undid his belt handing it to her. "Bite down on this. I'm going to count to three and then do it OK?"
Kara nodded and did as he asked of her, biting down on the leather and then motioning that she was ready.
Oliver got his hands in position. "All right. Ready?"
She nodded.
"One-" he did it swiftly, setting her wrist bones back into place.
She groaned in pain, biting down hard on his belt. "RAO! What the! Oliver! I thought you said you were going to go on three?!" she said gingerly holding her wrist to her chest.
"Yea well, I've learned that if you think you know it's coming, it'll hurt more. So I did it unexpectedly. Trust me, I unfortunately have a lot of experience with pain," he briefly grimaced. "OK, let's go. We need to get you a splint and then go see if anyone needs help and survey the damage."
Kara agreed, and after a quick stop by the med bay to grab a temporary brace for her wrist, the two went to the command center where pictures of the city were on the screens. Kara put her newly-splinted hand over her mouth. "Oh Rao... I can't believe this is happening right now. All those people and I won't be able to help them. You know I was there to help people when an earthquake struck Japan..." she says remembering the destruction and devastation she witnessed while helping during that disaster.
J'onn spoke up. "It looks like we won't be getting help from Superman either... The fault line that runs under National City also runs under Metropolis."
Kara can't believe this. Her city is defenseless because she got roped into fighting that stupid android. She didn't listen to Alex, who told her it was a bad idea, and now National City is going to pay the price. She was snapped out of her panic by Oliver gently shaking her a bit.
"Kara... I know what you're thinking, but this isn't your fault. You still have your extrapolator with you, right? Use it and go to Central City, get mine and Barry's teams and come back. There's not a lot going on at the moment over there, so everyone should be free to help. The legends might be home too. Barry will get a hold of them bring everyone back, got it?"
She nodded and pulled the extrapolator out of her pocket. It was damaged. It must've happened during the quake. She frowned. "Oliver or Alex, do you have yours?" Kara asked turning toward them.
"Not on me, Kara, it's back at my apartment," her sister answered first.
Oliver felt around his pockets and then said, "hold on one second..." He ran to grab his bag with his gear and brought it back to where they were standing. After digging through it for a moment, "got it!" He handed it to Kara. Oliver also pulled his phone from his pocket and gave it to Kara along with the passcode. "The extrapolator will put you inside the bunker. If Felicity isn't there, you can use my phone to call both her and Barry so they can gather everybody."
Kara nodded, accepting both his extrapolator and his phone.
"In the meantime, I'll go out there and do what I can," Oliver tells the group. "I have some medical experience and so do you Alex. I need you to come with me and help coordinate with the fire department and medical teams."
J'onn nodded. "Agreed. I'll coordinate with the mayor and the governor. The governor will probably deploy the National Guard. I'll deploy DEO search and rescue teams as well."
Oliver put his hand on Kara's shoulder. "See, we've got a plan here, everything's going to be fine. After you get the teams from my earth, you don't have to sit on the sidelines either. I'm sure Miss Grant's looking for you now. The city is going to need assurance that everything is going to be ok. I can't think of anyone better than Kara Danvers, one of National City's top reporters, to relay that message."
J'onn, Alex, and Winn agreed.
J'onn gave the order. "All right everybody suit up. Right now National City needs all of us. We can't- no! we won't let them down." Everyone nodded going their separate ways. Oliver and Alex suiting up.
Oliver and Kara met at the exit.
"Are you ready for the Emerald Archer to make a return to National City?" Kara asked smiling.
"It has been a while, hasn't it? I'll do my best. Plus thanks to Felicity and Cisco, I have some new gear for occasions just like this." After a few natural and terrorist disasters in both Central City and Star City, the tech arm of each team saw it fit to outfit their heroes with technology and tools for such occasions.
"You and Alex better come back to me safe. You got it?" she said taking one of his hands with her good hand and squeezing it.
"I promise." He squeezes her hand back and then disappears through the door..
