Chapter 22
It was the morning of New Year Day. Robin brought the paper over to Robert who was sitting drinking his morning coffee. He picked up and looked at the front page. "Well, it looks like Junior won't be the New Year baby."
"Oh, someone already had a baby?" Anna asked looking up at him. She was the only one still eating.
"Griffin Monroe was born at 2:37 am to proud parents, Margaret Monroe and," Robert paused as he reread the name of the father. "Duke," he stammered and looked up at Anna. "Duke Lavery is the father according to this."
"What? Let me see that." Anna reached for the paper. "Was he born around the due date, I wonder." She looked over at Robert, a puzzled look on her face. "Was he messing around before we did? Would he have kept this from me if I hadn't ended it with him?" Anna was talking mostly to herself now as she started to read the article. Then she looked back up at Robert and laughed, "He couldn't even tell me the truth after I'd ended it."
"Are you surprised by that?" Robert asked as he watched her.
"No, and that's why I'm laughing." She had accepted some time ago that Duke was never going to be able to tell her everything, that he would always keep things from her.
"He might not have told you just so you had to carry the guilt."
"I don't feel guilty about what happened," she told him with a grin.
"Neither do I." He leaned forward and kissed her as he put his hand on her stomach. "I will never regret the night we made junior."
"Bobby."
He grinned, "Yes."
She grinned back, "No, I want to call him Bobby. We already call him junior all the time so I think our son's name should be Robert Xavier Scorpio Junior."
It took him a moment to respond, she had already named Robin after him. Could she really want to name their son after him? He would love his son to carry on his name. "You really mean that?"
"Yes." Anna stroked his cheek. "I'll let you name the next one."
Robert laughed, "Let's just focus on this one for right now."
Anna smiled, "Don't worry sweety, I am in no rush to add to our little family after Bobby gets here." She rubbed her stomach, "You could come out any time now by the way." She felt as big as a house and was ready to not be pregnant any time now.
"I think he can wait a couple more days now. The due date is the fifth, that seems like a good day for a birthday, a little after all the holiday stuff."
"Right the holiday stuff, or Duke's son's birthday," she said with a grin.
Robert smiled, "Yeah, there's that too."
…
It wasn't the fifth, it was actually the seventh when Robert got the call at work. Anna had gone into labour and was already on the way to the hospital. He grabbed his coat and hurried out the door almost walking into Guy Lewis. "Anna's having the baby," he said excitedly, a big smile on his face then turned and all but ran to the door.
When he got to the hospital Tony Jones was there waiting to take him to Anna. "Felicia got her here, safe and sound. Come on, Anna's waiting for you." Then Tony led Robert to her room.
When he entered the room Anna smiled over at him, "I'm glad you made it."
He smiled as soon as he saw her. "The second I hung up, I was out the door. I was not missing this." He walked over and took her hand. "How are you doing?"
"So much better now that you're here." Just as she finished speaking a contraction started. As she squeezed his hand Robert quickly realized, yup this is really happening, and it's happening right now. When it ended Anna looked up at him, "I don't think that one wasn't as bad as the last one," she said as she took a few slow long breaths.
When their doctor walked in she smiled seeing him there. "Hello Robert, glad you made it." She looked at the monitors, "Anna, you seem to have relaxed a little since the last time I was in here. Were you worried someone might not get here in time?"
Anna grinned over at her then looked up at Robert, "I was a little worried something at work might keep him from getting here in time but I knew he wanted to be here."
"You knew I wouldn't miss this." Robert leaned in and kissed her softly. "Okay, Bobby we're ready."
"Yes, we are." She looked at him with such love in her eyes. It had taken them a while but they're back on the path they had started years ago, finally on that path together again. Another contraction started and those thoughts were gone, there was something else to focus on at the moment. Their son is on his way.
…
Felicia held Robin's hand as they walked into General Hospital. Someone was very excited to meet her little brother, Robert Xavier Scorpio Junior had arrived at 10:59 pm. Robin had tried to stay awake but had fallen asleep on their couch waiting for the call. When she woke up, the first thing Robin thought of was the baby. She'd run to find Felicia who had told her that she was a big sister.
Bobbie was there and smiled seeing Robin walking towards her. "Hi, sweety. You look very excited this morning."
"I'm here to see my baby brother!" Robin told her excitedly.
"I thought you might be. Follow me." Bobbie turned and started walking down the hall. When they got to Anna's room, Bobbie turned, "You can go in, they were expecting you. Oh," she smiled at Robin, "I really like your baby brother's name."
Robin smiled back at her then peaked through the door before walking in. "Hi," suddenly she felt a little nervous. He's here, he's really here. She now has a baby brother.
"Hi sweety," Anna said, still sounding a little tired. "Come give me a hug." Robin hurried over and hugged her tightly then looked at her father. Anna put her hand on her back. "We'd like you to meet, Robert Xavier Scorpio Junior. We're going to call him Bobby."
"Or Junior," Robert added as he turned his son so Robin could see him better. "Sit down beside Mommy."
Robin climbed on the bed and Anna put an arm around her, "Do you want to hold him?" she asked and Robin nodded excitedly. Anna adjusted so she could help Robin hold him properly. "Make sure you support his head," she said as Robert passed Bobby into Robin's arms. Her eyes got big as she tensed just for a moment. "You've got him. You're alright."
"Hi, Bobby." She smiled at him, just taking in the sight of him. "You have blue eyes. Oh, look at you," she gushed. "Mommy, he's a mini Daddy."
Anna used her thumb to stroke his blonde hair. It was true, Bobby had taken after his father in colouring. Anna could also already see some of Robert's features in their son's face. "Yes he is, I was hoping he'd look like his father."
"Yeah, I was too," Robert added. "If he looked like you two he would be much too pretty."
"Oh, right we can't have that. Bobby Scorpio needs to be handsome, rugged and manly like his father," Anna teased.
"Well yeah," Robert said with a big grin puffing out his chest, making them all laugh.
"Awww, he's got my finger," Robin told them as a tear rolled down her cheek as she watched him. This was even better than she thought it would be. He is beautiful and she loved him so much. He was still holding her finger, looking up at her. "Hi Bobby, I'm your sister Robin."
Robert never thought he could feel this much love, feel this happy. His entire world is right in front of him. He reached out and touched Anna's hair, she looked up with such love in her eyes. "I love you. All of you, my beautiful family," he said then leaned in and kissed her tenderly.
…
Duke was at the hospital to finally pick Maggie and Griffin up. There had been some complications during the delivery and it had been required that Maggie stay in the hospital longer. Duke wandered by the nursery to see if Griffin was there. If he was then he would take him to his mom. He had heard that Anna had given birth but wasn't expecting to see her son so close to his own. Even though both babies were sleeping it was easy to see Griffin had taken after his parents in colouring while Scorpio's baby had taken after him. Seeing that blonde hair Duke just knew Robert's son would also have his blue eyes.
Then Duke looked back over at his son, he smiled seeing him. This is his son, Griffin Monroe Lavery. Duke knew he had to ask Maggie but he wanted his son to have his last name. He wanted his son to have a family. He had been thinking about this over the last few days. There are two bedrooms in his apartment. She could have her own space but they would both be there for their son. They could also see what can happen between them.
Was seeing Scorpio's son the last straw, what finally made him want to commit to giving him and Maggie a real chance? Duke didn't think so, it was seeing his son and wanting to give him the best he can. They had all made mistakes, there had been betrayal. Both, he and Anna had sought out others. Their sons were the proof of that, maybe they were the signs both had needed to accept their relationship was never going to work no matter what they felt or wanted.
Duke turned and went to the door of the nursery. It was time to get his son and take him to his mother. It was time to let Margaret know he wanted to give them a chance and that he wanted them to move in with him.
…
It was Bobby's first day at home. Anna was very happy to be home and was relaxing on the couch while he was sleeping. Robert and Robin were in the kitchen making them lunch. Anna looked over at the bassinet, her beautiful baby boy looked so peaceful. It felt wonderful to be home. It was nice having their friends stop in to congratulate them and meet their son while they were at the hospital but now this quiet time was welcome.
When Robin came to tell Anna lunch was ready she pulled her into her arms. "How are you doing?" Anna asked.
"I'm happy. You and Bobby are home so now I can see him any time I want. I like watching him sleep. He's so cute and little. I missed you tucking me in at bedtime the last couple days."
"Well, you'll be happy to hear I will be here to do that tonight."
Robin smiled, "I know. Come on, we don't want lunch to get cold."
A/N: I wanted to kind of write Duke out by giving him something else to focus on lol. Now that Junior is home we can get to some baby fluff next. Thanks for reading.
