Chapter 24
Anna was relieved that Bobby had done so well with having his picture taken this afternoon. Three months seemed like the perfect age to get pictures done. There were some just of him but they had also gotten some family pictures taken as well. They had gotten some wonderful pictures and Anna couldn't wait to have them and put them up at home. They had agreed that an early dinner at Kelly's was in order and were all now sitting at a table while Ruby gushed over their a sleeping Bobby.
"He is so precious," Ruby said, her hands clasped at her chin.
"When he wakes up you can hold him," Anna assured her with a smile.
"I'm holding you to that," Ruby agreed excitedly, touching her shoulder. "Robin, you look cute today. Did you have your picture taken as well?"
"We all did. We finally have a family picture," Robin told her excitedly.
Ruby couldn't help smiling back at her. She could see the sheer happiness on the little girl's face. It wasn't hard to tell that Robin had wanted this to happen. That she was ecstatic about having her parents together and having a little brother. They had started coming in a little more often lately. As the weather got warmer they were taking Bobby on more walks and she was looking forward to seeing him and watching him as he grew. She took their order and talked a little longer before walking away.
…
Robin ran over and grabbed a receiving blanket, "I got one, Daddy. Don't move!" She hurried back over to her father and brother. Bobby was smiling happily on Robert's knee. While Robert had a look of disgust on his face. The whitish substance on his cheek was the cause. He had been warned that it wasn't always a good idea to lift Bobby above his head like that. He couldn't be mad and saw the humour in what had happened.
"I warned you. I told you he'd just finished eating," Anna said with a slight laugh. She had been grinning since it happened.
"That was a little while ago," Robert tried to insist with a bit of a grin as he started wiping the spit-up off his face.
"You are not the first or last person to have a baby spit-up on them. If you hadn't lifted him up like that it wouldn't have gotten on your face," Anna told him, still smiling. "Just be happy it didn't end up in your mouth."
Robert made a sour face as Robin started laughing, both picturing that exact thing happening. "That would be so gross," Robin said still giggling.
"It happens," Anna said as she took Bobby from Robert.
"You wouldn't do that to Daddy, would you?" Robert asked as he wiped at his son's chin. Getting the little bit of spit-up that was there. He looked up to see Anna giving him a look, it was her, oh just you wait, look. He leaned in and kissed her cheek quickly. "I learn. I figured out how to avoid getting peed on, I can figure out how to avoid getting spit-up on."
That made Anna laugh," Good, eventually, that will stop but for now you should be a little more careful."
"I will be." Robert leaned in and kissed the top of Bobby's head. "I don't mind buddy. If you're a teen and this happens I think we'll have to have a talk about the cause but not yet." Robert got up and left the room, he wanted to wash off his face.
"What are you smiling about?" Robin asked as she took a seat beside her mom.
"I have what we were both missing when you were a baby."
"You wanted Daddy there when I was a baby."
"Ah, of course, I did. More than anything." Anna looked over at her daughter. "I wanted to share all the wonderful moments with him. I wanted him there to lean on, I wanted him there for you, to see you. I wanted him there to hold me. I wanted him to know he was a father." Anna wiped away the tears that had started to fall.
"Don't worry Bobby, Mommy's not sad. She just wishes Daddy could have been there when I was a baby. I do too but he's here now and so are you. Bobby, our family is the best. You are a lucky little man to be a part of it. You just wait for the fun times we are all going to have." Anna leaned in and kissed Robin's cheek as she listened as she continued to talk to her baby brother.
…
It was late, just past two, when Robert finally got home. This case had been keeping him busy and the long days were starting to bother him. After the arrest they had made tonight he thought that would be changing. He was fairly confident that they had the right people in custody. Questioning them can wait until morning though. Right now he needs to get some sleep.
Quietly he made his way upstairs, not wanting to disturb anyone. When he got to the top of the stairs he noticed a light coming from Bobby's room. When he looked in, he saw Anna walking and rocking their son, speaking quietly to him. Bobby looked close to sleep but was fighting it. "What's keeping our little prince up?"
As soon as he heard his father's voice Bobby turned his head, searching for him. Anna smiled when it happened, "I think someone has been missing his Daddy."
Robert walked over and took their son. "Come here, I've been missing you too." Bobby cuddled in as close as he could get as soon as he was in Robert's arms. Slowly stroking his back Robert sat down in the rocking chair. "You need to let Mommy sleep. She needs energy so she can play with you tomorrow." Feeling a hand on his shoulder, Robert looked up. Anna leaned in and kissed him tenderly. "You go get some sleep, I'll get him settled in then I'll come to bed."
"Alright," Anna agreed tiredly. She yawned as she left the room, Robert heard their bedroom door close then it was quiet.
"Have you been keeping her up all week? I'm sorry I haven't been here much lately but I think we got the bad guy. Yes, we did." Speaking quietly Robert told Bobby about the case he'd been working on and that was had kept him away. He told him that they made their arrests this evening and that meant he would be home more again. Bobby contently listened to his father's voice as his eyes slowly got heavier, finally staying closed. When Bobby was asleep Robert gently put him in the crib then went to get ready for bed himself.
About ten minutes later he quietly got into bed trying not to disturb Anna. "He misses his Daddy. I've been noticing that, the last few nights."
"You should be sleeping." Robert pulled her into his arms and kissed her tenderly.
"I was but the man I've been missing in the evenings just got into bed with me."
"I've been missing all of you too." Robert put his head back as she put her head on his shoulder. "I should be home at the regular time now." He started rubbing her back as she got more comfortable. With her hand now on his chest, Anna closed her eyes again. "You get some sleep, we can talk in the morning." He closed his eyes, exhausted but content. Moments later they were both sleeping peacefully in the arms of the one they love.
…
Six months, where did the time go? Robert stood watching his son sleep. Bobby was six months old today. It has been such a joy watching their son grow, watching him discover things. He can now roll over, he has started pushing himself up onto his hands and knees. Anna says it won't be long before he figures out how to crawl, then watch out. They could both see it already, Robert Scorpio Jr. was determined. He wants to see things, he wants to get places. When Robin is doing something that he can hear but can't see he has started pulling himself along the floor to find her. Once he is mobile she'll never get any peace. Even stairs would only slow him down for a little while, Robert thought with a grin.
Sean and Tiffany as well as Felicia Bobbie and Tony were coming over for coffee this afternoon. They wanted to share this day with friends and Robert would admit he was looking forward to bragging about their wonderful little boy. It would be another half an hour at least before he expected Anna and Robin back, she had dance class today and Anna was running earns. It was quiet in the house at the moment and that was why he was leaning against the doorframe, watching their beautiful boy.
As he watched Junior sleep, Robert's mind started to wander a little. He couldn't help but smile whenever he thought about the fact Anna was far away from the mess Duke's life had been over the last few months. Olivia Jerome trying to ruin that life he was starting with his son and Margaret. It was a mess, the fact she went as far as to try and kidnap Giffin, their little boy, was what had scared them all the most. Yes, Olivia Jerome was now in prison but that didn't mean this was over for Duke. That easily could have been Anna and Robin in their places. What if Anna had had a baby with Duke? Thankfully that didn't happen. Anna wasn't with Duke, she is his wife and they were getting to enjoy their wedded bliss, their beautiful little family. They had so many wonderful friends here. Whatever the reasons were that had brought them all here to this city, Robert knew this was how their life was meant to be.
Robert looked at his watch and realized he had to start getting things ready for their guests. Soon he was downstairs in the kitchen. The coffee was on and he was just about to sit down at the table when a flurry of activity behind him signalled the return of Anna and Robin. With her bag still over her shoulder, Robin ran over, hugged her father then turned to Anna, "I have to get changed before they get here."
"Bobby is napping," Robert cautioned her.
"Okay, Daddy." Robin turned, took her bag to one room then back through the kitchen so she could head up to her room, in a flash she was gone. Robert turned to see what Anna was doing.
She was busy putting things in the fridge and arranging platters of sandwiches on the table. "Is all this really necessary?" he questioned looking at all the food she had brought home.
"Yes." Anna turned to look at Robert. "This is the first time we're having people over. B.J. is going to be here. That's extra kids. I really hope Lucy doesn't come with Tony."
"I don't think we have to worry about that."
Anna hoped he was right. It did seem like Tony and Lucy's marriage was very rocky at the moment but Anna knew she would have to play nice if she was there. That all the women would have to play nice with Lucy if she showed up.
Robert noticed Anna tense. "Don't get worked up about something that isn't going to happen."
Anna couldn't help but smile when she turned to see the look on his face, "Yeah, alright."
He pulled her into his arms, just needing to hold her for a moment. "We are going to enjoy a nice afternoon with our friends. No drama, no talking about cases. Just having some fun."
"Mmmm, that is exactly what I need." Her arms now around his waist, she's in her spot. She fits so perfectly here, his arms around her. Once again she is home in his arms. After another moment she steps back, "Alright we have things to do, they could start arriving any time." Then Anna turned and left the kitchen. Slowly with a grin on his face, Robert followed her. When he got to the bottom of the stairs he heard Bobby start to fuss just as the doorbell rang. "I'll get him, you get the door," Anna called down to him.
"Alright." Robert went to answer the door, Sean and Tiff were there so he invited them in. all greeting happily. They were casually talking about their days when Anna came down a few minutes late, Bobby in her arms. Robin was right behind her. "Hi Uncle Sean, Aunt Tiff. My dance recitals in a month. Can you come?"
"I think we can. Let's talk about that a little later so we don't forget," Sean said as he gave her a quick hug.
"Okay." Then she saw her brother. "Hi R.J. Did you have fun with Daddy? Yeah. Oh, I can't wait for you to come and see me dance. He gets to come to the recital, right Mommy?" she asked looking up at her mother hopefully.
"If it means that much to you then yes." Anna could see that this was important to Robin. Most like she had been telling her friends all about her little brother and wanted to show him off to her dance friends.
"R.J.? Sean asked, a curious look on his face.
"Yeah, I'm trying it out," Robin explained. "I think sometimes, like today. Having two Bobby's in the same place might get confusing. What happens if I fall down and I'm bleeding and call for Bobbie but Bobby comes. He's cute and all but he won't be able to help with blood now, will he?"
Sean was trying not to show how amused he was by what she was saying. She had put some thought into this and her reasoning was sound so he said, "You're right. Does he like being called R.J.?"
"I don't know yet, I just started trying it this morning," Robin admitted with a grin making them all laugh a little.
Tiffany was now standing beside Sean, "Are we the first ones here?" she asked.
"Yeah, why what's up toots?" Robert asked.
"Well we have a little news to share and we wanted you to be the first ones we told," Sean told them.
Anna stepped closer to Robert, not wanting to miss what was said. What could they want to tell them she wondered as she waited for either of them to speak again?
"We're having a BABY!" Tiffany exclaimed excitedly. "It wasn't something we were planning but now we couldn't be happier. Anna, our babies will be close in age, how wonderful is that?"
Anna stepped close and with Bobby still in her arms hugged Tiff. "This is such incredible news. Congratulations!
Robert shook Sean's hand then pulled him into a hug, "Congrats, this is great news."
"Thanks, I never thought I could be this excited about something. Ever since Tiff told me though," Sean paused, a silly grin on his face. "I can't think of anything better than this."
"Coming home to my family. Seeing all of their faces at the start and end of the day. You're right, there's nothing better." Robert looked over at Anna, she was already smiling back at him. They had all found true happiness.
…
A/N: I want to continue this story. I have a few new ideas but will need time to get it all figured out. I think a few time jumps, age these babies a little. What kind of situations can they all get into with small ones around. I want to keep it mostly fluff but it should be fun to write all these characters with children.
