As if she realized she was cowering, in response to his rage. Shonda tried to defend herself, as she said, "Don't talk about me like I'm not here!" At that point Kerry was even more confused at what she was hearing. Quickly she said, "Wait, what's going on here? Tony why are you so angry at Shonda?"
Given her outburst, Judy decided to let Tony have his wish, and finish verbally sparring with Shonda. She encouraged the conversation as she said, "Yes Shonda, tell Kerry why Tony is so upset with you." Kerry looked at Shonda, as she turned to face her. All attention was on her, as she stood behind the chaise, where Kerry was sitting.
The moment of bravado she had, with that outburst was gone. She was as quiet as a church mouse. The tension in the room was so thick, one could barely breathe. Tony's anger was simmering, along with everyone else's and was about to bubble over.
Kerry, fed up with the silence asked, "Shonda. What's going on?" Feeling the pressure to respond, but still not wanting to admit to anything. Shonda said, "I don't kn…"
Tony interjects as he says, "Don't you dare lie! Don't you dare stand there and tell that bold faced lie! You know exactly what's going on. You're the one who invited Jane here. You sent her my tickets on purpose; hoping she'd come. So you could what? Run in here and comfort Kerry, as if you're oblivious to the shit storm you attempted to start. All so you could paint me as the bad guy, and split us apart. So you can spout your man hating, faux feminism bull shit!"
Kerry was dismayed by what she heard, as she responded, "Oh my God! Shonda, why in the hell would you do something like that!" Tony snapped back as he replied, "Because she's a twisted, evil, narcissist throwing a bitch fit because she's not getting her way! We won't bow down and kiss her ring; so she's fucking with us. But that shit's ending right here and now!" Fed up with his yelling; Shonda defensively said, "I won't be attacked like this! You'd better watch your step! And remember who you're talking to!"
Tony was prepared to reply, but his lady beat him to it. She was outdone by her response as she said, "You've got to be kidding! You're actually trying to play the, I'm the boss card right now. After you started this bullshit, and got caught doing it! Well newsflash Shonda, your title doesn't mean a damn thing in this moment. So get over yourself, and own up to what you've done. Because you're not getting off the hook for this one that easily!"
Shonda is backed into a corner, and she knows it. They all do. And like her predictable self. She lashed out, instead of standing in her truth. She quickly replied, "Let's get one thing straight; I don't need you to let me off the hook for a damn thing! And I don't have to stand here and take this bullshit either. I'm leaving!"
As she walked toward the door, Judy still blocked Tony from approaching her. Shonda, being the petty one that she is says, "What are you going to do, hit me?" Before he can respond Judy says, "Nobody's threatening you with physical harm Shonda. But the hit you feel will be coming regardless."
Shonda was intrigued as she asked, "What's that supposed to mean?" Judy replied, "It means that if you think this little retort of yours is the end of this. You're mistaken. Because once the network gets wind of you bringing undue stress on an unborn child, and its mother. Especially while serving in the capacity of an employer. Let's just say, you won't come out on the winning end of this."
Shonda's face became priceless, as she processed what she heard. When it finally hit her, she said, "You're pregnant!" Kerry smartly responded, "Can't get anything past you I see. That Dartmouth degree is coming in handy, huh?"
Annoyed by her reply, "Shonda said, "Screw you!" Kerry responded, "I know you'd like to. But, my man has that covered. Hence our unborn child. Now, why don't you take your bitter, angry, lonely ass elsewhere? And try to figure out how you're going to explain this to the network,"
Shonda immediately understood the implications of her words. She quickly replied, "There's no reason the network needs to hear about this." Tony responded, "On the contrary. There are 100 million reasons why they need to hear about this!" Shonda again looked confused, until Judy responded, "That would be the harassment pay out built into their contracts. Something you're beyond violation of with this latest caper."
The color drained from her face as she said, "Wait a minute. That's absurd! I'm not harassing anyone. I didn't know you were pregnant Kerry." Judy replied, "It doesn't matter if you knew she was pregnant Shonda. It matters that you saw fit to bring unnecessary stress and strain to a pregnant woman, in a very delicate time in her pregnancy. Your actions created an unstable work environment, which could've caused a significant impact on her pregnancy."
Shonda heard her, they all hear her. And in that moment Shonda knew she was over a barrel. Unable to think of what to say, other than to relent. She said, "Okay. What do you want? What will it take to fix this?" Tony replied, "There's..." Judy interjected, not wanting to show their hand. She said "Let us talk it over, and I will be in touch."
Shonda replied, "So that's it. I just have to wait for you to get back to me? How do I know you won't go to the network behind my back?" Judy plainly, and poignantly said, "You don't. But you could always tell them yourself, and see how that goes. If you're scared we're going to screw with you. The way you've been screwing with us."
Unbelievably frustrated in the moment; but unable to do anything except shake her head. She stood there looking almost pitiful, due to being defeated in her own game of deceit.
They all saw her, and had nothing to offer. Judy decided to put her out of her misery as she pushed her along, with no remorse as she said, "I know you were in a hurry to walk out a moment ago. So, you can go ahead and make that exit. Although I bet it's not feeling so grand in the moment." Shonda wanted to say something, anything. But she couldn't find the words. Still frustrated and upset. She just opened the door and stormed out.
With Judy left with both Kerry and Tony, the air in the room thinned out. And the moment settled. Kerry sat down, and Tony went to her. He sat down with her, as Judy got her a bottle of water from the mini fridge in the corner. Kerry drank some of the water, and they all took a breath in an effort to process what just happened, and how they'd proceed. One thing was for sure. The bell had been rung, and there was no turning back now. However they moved forward, it was a foregone conclusion that Shonda was on notice. So the chess match was afoot, and while they had the upper hand now; nobody knew how long that would last. So they had to keep the advantage and stay ready for her counter attack. Hence Judy imparting to them what they'd do next. She laid out her plan, and it was one that impressed them both.
