Flashback
Kerry was supposed to be in the green room prepping for the taping of an interview for the winter season finale of season 2 of Scandal, for Jimmy Kimmel. However, she was queasy, and for the last few hours she hasn't been able to keep anything down. Which is why she was trapped in the bathroom of her dressing room, violently emptying her stomach contents in the toilet.
As she stood now looking in the mirror at herself, with a cold compress pressed against her forehead. She desperately hoped she was not getting sick again, like she was a few weeks ago. It certainly didn't feel the same physically. Even the nausea felt different. Where is she? She thought to herself, as she wondered where her manager was, who left her what felt like hours ago to get her some medicine.
Seconds later, she heard the door open leading into her dressing room. She stepped into the room and saw Robin walking toward her with a bag in her hand. Kerry gratefully said, "Thank God. Where'd you go Guam?" Robin replied, "Close enough, I had to go uptown to get the script. And I got you some toothpaste, a tooth brush, and mouthwash too."
Kerry took the bag she was handing her and said, "Thanks Robin. I owe you one." She smiled at her and handed her a bottle of water as she said, "Yeah. You owe me a couple. But we can talk about that later. Take your nausea medication. You go on in less than an hour."
She nodded as she took the medication out of the bag, and downed the water, after swallowing the pill. Afterwards, she took a breath, hoping the meds provided relief. She then went into the bathroom, and tried to brush her teeth. But her gag reflex was kicking in. It was so sensitive she could hardly get to the back of her tongue.
Robin heard her gagging through the closed bathroom door. Because it doesn't sound like the type of gag associated with a vomit, she asked, "Kerry, are you okay?" Kerry yelled through the door, "Yes. I'm trying to brush my teeth."
The response immediately hit Robin like a ton of bricks, and she doesn't say anything else. She just started thinking of various things she'd noticed about her client and friend, over the last few weeks, and by the time the door opened, and Kerry was standing in front of her. She snapped back to reality and as Kerry lays on the couch, with a cold compress on her head resting. Robin took a breath, but kept her theory to herself. No need to freak her out before getting on camera, she said to herself.
The time flew by and as always Kerry killed the interview. After they leave the studio; Kerry invites Robin back to the apartment for lunch. When they arrived, Kerry ordered an abundance of food and scarfed it all down with no problem. Something not typical of someone who had a stomach virus of some sort a few short hours ago.
This reconfirmed Robin's thoughts and as Kerry sat on the couch with Josie in her lap, and Robin sat on the opposing end of the couch. She felt this was the best time as any to bring up her suspicion, as she asked, "How's your stomach doing?" Kerry responded, "It feels full as hell. But, good. I guess it must have been some type of temporary stomach bug or something."
Robin replied, "That's possible. But given how you just ate. It's highly unlikely Kerry." Kerry heard her words as well as her tone, and noticed a shift. So she took a break from petting Josie, who was almost asleep from the wonderful massage her mommy's fingers were delivering to her. And Kerry looked at Robin as she asked, "What's that supposed to mean?"
Robin took a breath and poignantly said, "It means that you vomiting today probably has more to do with you being pregnant, then having a stomach virus." Kerry sat in silence for a moment; she simply couldn't or wouldn't allow herself to consider that option. So she said, "No. I'm not pregnant."
Robin responded. "Kerry, how can you be so sure? Have you take a test?" She again sat quietly and Robin could tell, she was in thought. She knew in that moment the possibility hadn't occurred to her until right then.
She gave her a few minutes of silence, and hoped that Tony would be there soon. The silence ended as Kerry said, "I can't be pregnant." The sound of her response was more troubling then the words themselves.
Robin looked over at her and saw tears in her eyes, her face was drenched. And when she moved to comfort her, Kerry stood up, forcing Josie awake and her to luckily land on her feet, as Kerry walked hurriedly to her room, closing the door behind her. Robin felt terrible, she didn't mean to upset her friend. But, it needed to be said.
After spending several minutes trying to get her out of the bathroom, with no success. And hearing her still so upset, although no longer crying but still refusing to come out or open the door. The moment shifted again when Tony arrived.
She texted him earlier when she went to get her medicine, and he asked her to keep an eye on her for him. He'd be home as soon as he could. He was in a meeting for a new show he was working on. She agreed to stay with her until he made it home, and now that he was there. She filled him in on what had transpired.
After thanking her for sticking around until he got home, and knowing she was in good hands. Robin decided to leave and let Tony take things from that point.
Kerry not hearing Robin's voice for a while called out to her. But didn't get an answer. So she opened the door, and when she did. She saw Tony sitting on the floor in the hallway with Josie in his lap.
The sight shocked her so badly she jumped and almost wanted to shut the door. Because she could only imagine how she looked. But, when her eyes met his, she couldn't look away.
Gently, he laid Josie down on the floor, and she stirred just a bit. Before falling back off to sleep as she got comfy with her doggie toy still tucked away between her paws.
Then, he simply stood up, and put his arms out toward Kerry. Needing him, she walked into his arms willingly. When her head met his chest, she melted into him and sobbed. He held her for several minutes, then he picked her up and carried her into the living room. Where he held her until she was done crying.
