As their laughter quells; she says, "Seriously, I am happy for you. If working things out with Brandy is what you want. I hope it works." He accepts her supportive reply as he replies, "Thanks. We need all the support we can get. It's going to be a rocky road. But for the sake of the kids. We've gotta figure this out."
She nods as she says, "I agree. The kids are the most important people in the situation. Don't lose sight of that." He responds, "I won't. Speaking of kids. It was cool to see Anna and Tess so excited about their sibling on the way." She grins as she says, "Yeah. It was. They were so sweet at the shower. His whole family has been amazing, and the fact that our families get along so well is a real blessing too." He nods as he responds, "True. In-laws can be a challenge for sure." She nods as she replies, "Amen."
Their moment is suddenly interrupted by a knock on the door, and she flashes a knowing smile as she yells, "Yes." The familiar voice on the outside replies, "Five minutes Mrs. Washington." She nods as she responds, "Okay. Thanks Oscar." He replies,
You're welcome." As he walks off, she looks at Columbus and he says, "Come on, I'll walk you inside before I go." She stands as she replies, "Aren't you a gentleman." He smiles as he says, "Sometimes."
After he walks her to the door of the studio, they part as she says, "Take care of yourself Colby." He grins as he says, "Always Kerry. See you later." She nods as she replies, "Bye." Seeing him walk away feels strange somehow, but she pushes that out of her head as she walks to the set, for her scene with her husband's character with a smile.
Once she's on set; she's in awe of the surroundings. The set is very romantic and intimate. It excites her to know that this is the setting for their on screen moment. Admittedly, there's something about them being together in this scene, while she's carrying their baby that adds a little extra to the goings on, but she's ready for the challenge.
Suddenly, she spies her love from across the room as she readies herself for the scene, and as always he looks great. His hair is tossed and he has a look of concern on his face. She loves when he's in character; this character in particular comes through unbelievably sexy and commanding. Two attributes she loves him to exhibit. As she hears the director ask her if she's ready, she snaps from her thoughts and she takes her place, on her mark.
Shooting the scene is everything and then some, as the director, Ava Duvernay herself is outdone with how smooth, and rhythmic the actors perform the scene. Because of the steaminess of the shots, it takes four hours to shoot the scene, but it takes 9 to edit it to what can be shown on television. Largely because Kerry opted to be topless in the scene, and there were various shots of her baring all, that had to be cut, and with Tony not being shy at all, in stripping down to his underwear for the scene. There were equal scenes of him rising to the occasion they couldn't show either. Ergo, mid back and above was all they could show. But, they were able to make it work, and the Vermont scene easily becomes one of the more erotic moments between the Olivia and Fitz characters.
Regardless of the hype surrounding the episode, the weeks following it; leading into the winter break are anything but blissful. With the writing taking a turn that's leaving most of the cast anything but happy, because of its obvious new direction. The job, is now work. Real work, they're all having to put forth great effort into doing, and holding their tongues from complaining.
While Tony and Kerry both knew this was going to be the case, thinking it and living it isn't the same thing. Nonetheless, they're soldiering though like the professionals they are, and celebrating their cast mates who are getting more screen time, and more impactful writing.
With the winter break finale now being shot, the writing is more so on the wall than ever as of their final table read for the first half of the season concludes.
But to Shonda's surprise; Kerry and Tony didn't object to the changes in the script. In fact, they made an effort to rise to the occasion, following last minute rewrite requests, and scene changes like true professionals all the way up to the wrap party. Table read after table read they're almost mute, as they read along with no reaction. Something everyone notices, and is unsure of what to make of it.
This response unnerves Shonda, because she can't fight with someone who's not fighting back. So, being the vindictive type that she is; she creates a battle in her own head, and decides to remain on her plight to flip the series on its head. Especially after seeing the ratings for the Vermont episode.
With the blasting tweets on social media after the episode airs, and the roar of the Olitz fandom breaking the internet, claiming the episode to be one of Olitz's best scenes ever. Making those who ship Olake angry, at the idea of Fitz giving Olivia more than Jake ever could. This confirms Shonda's belief that it's time to Shake things up a bit, especially with the latest piece of Intel she gained, without the others knowing she's in the know.
She rubs her hands eagerly, as she contemplates the degree of surprise waiting for everyone. As they all leave for break, looking to celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday with their loved ones. And both Kerry and Tony both skipping out on her invitation she extended to the cast, to have a get together before leaving for break. Shonda uses that snub to fuel her, when she does an interview with Entertainment Tonight, airing during the break that advises when the show returns, it's going to shock viewers and everyone else too.
