SmackDown Filming: October 11, 2011
I walk into Teddy Long's office. He's sitting at his desk.
"Hey, Teddy." I say quietly. "You wanted to see me?"
Teddy nods. "Yes, I did. How are you doing? I heard you had a bit of an outburst last night."
I sigh as I sit down. "Yeah, I did. I'm not happy about this situation. This is exactly what I was working to avoid. Plus, John Laurinaitis went to the Board of Directors to get them to believe I'm unfit to have authoritative power. He also told them that it would be a conflict of interests for me. This between me and him is personal. I'm not taking this lightly."
"You shouldn't. He's gotten Triple H out, and one of us is next. It's either you or me. He's here tonight by the way. Tonight's the night we film the episode of SmackDown that will make it the second longest running weekly episodic television show in history, only behind Monday Night Raw. It's a big deal, so he is here. I'm asking you myself though. Will you compete tonight? I was going to give you a match tonight against Natalya. I know you have wrestled her a lot lately, but it seems the two of you have a lot of unfinished business. Plus, I did say tonight is a big deal. You're the most popular Diva on the roster. It'd be a shame for you not to be used if you were available."
I nod. "I'll compete tonight. Actually, I should probably give you a heads-up. I'm going to be taking time away from the ring if I don't win at Vengeance. Randy and I are wanting to try to have a baby. If I don't walk out of Vengeance as Divas Champion, I'm going to be taking that time away from the ring. I'll probably still come to work while we're trying, but I'll be out of the ring and probably won't manage Randy. I'll take whatever I can get until Vengeance is over. Don't tell John Laurinaitis about this though. I don't want him in my personal business."
Teddy smiles. "Trust me. I won't say a word to him. I view you in a much higher regard as a coworker than him. I don't know how you view me, but I view you as a friend. I won't say a word. Good luck with whatever your future is, whether that is another reign or trying for a baby."
I give a small smile. "I view you as a friend too, Teddy. Thank you for not telling Laurinaitis."
Teddy nods. "Absolutely. By the way, there is a forty-one man Battle Royal tonight for a championship match of the winner's choice. Tell Randy that he's in the match."
"I will do that. Thanks."
I walk into mine and Randy's locker-room. "I love you."
Randy pulls me to him. "I love you too, Rissa. Why are you so happy?"
"I have a match tonight, and you have a wonderful opportunity."
"What's that?"
"There's a big forty-one man Battle Royal tonight. The winner gets a championship match of his choosing. You're in it."
"Damn. That's a wonderful opportunity."
"It is."
"Who are you against?"
"Natalya."
"Again?"
"Teddy made the match because he thought that she and I have unfinished business. He's right. Natalya and I do have unfinished business. It's her fault that I ended up losing at Hell in a Cell in the manner that I lost. I also told him about our plans. I'm not telling John Laurinaitis, and neither will Teddy. I just think, considering my impact on the program, that giving Teddy Long a heads-up was the right thing to do. He considers me a friend. I let him know."
Randy nods. "I understand, but that's two people that you told on your own now."
"Hey, one of them was my father. Plus, I told you that it was mentioned in that paperwork."
"That paperwork that was apparently pointless."
"Don't worry about that. Even while we're trying for a baby, I'm going to fight that decision. When I decide that he's made a mistake that I can push as worth being able to get him out of power, I'm going straight for the Board of Directors."
"Well, what about him firing Jim Ross last night?"
"I don't think that'll be enough. I did tell JR to look into maybe wrongful termination though."
"That's smart."
"Yeah, I'm going to take that man down. One way or another."
Randy kisses my forehead. "Good. Go get your ring gear on."
"On it."
I stand backstage in guerilla with Eve, watching the forty-one man Battle Royal. "He better win."
Eve smiles. "I'm sure he will."
"You're not rooting for Cody?"
"We're fighting. I hope something bites him in the ass. Plus, he's already Intercontinental Champion."
"Fair enough. Maybe Ted can win."
"That can be our alternative if Randy doesn't win."
"He'll win though."
"Yeah, would you look at that? Cody is out."
I smile. "Good."
We continue to watch the match in silence. Cody passes Eve, and she gives him a dirty look. The Battle Royal continues. At the end, Randy RKOs Miz off of the apron.
"Did they both win?" Eve asks.
"Could they both lose?" I reply.
They replay the footage of the end of the match. It is determined that Randy has won the match.
I smile. "Finally, some good news."
Randy declares that he will challenge Mark Henry for the World Heavyweight Championship before heading backstage.
Eve smiles at me. "I'll give you a few to talk to him alone. Your match will be in a few minutes."
I smile at Eve before running over to Randy. "Congratulations."
Randy kisses me. "Thanks, beautiful."
"I'm so proud of you."
"Hey, I haven't beat Mark Henry yet."
I roll my eyes. "You just won the biggest Battle Royal ever. Just let me congratulate you before I have to go wrestle."
Randy smiles. "Okay. Good luck."
I laugh. "I don't even think I need that luck. I've beaten her so many times."
("New Foundation" plays)
"The following Divas match is scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, being accompanied to the ring by Beth Phoenix, from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Natalya!"
I know I want that girl so bad
I lie awake at night
And think of all the things that I would do
With a girl like that…
"And her opponent, being accompanied to the ring by Eve Torres, from Saint Louis, Missouri, Marissa Orton!"
Ding! Ding! Ding!
Natalya and I lock up. I gain the advantage and hit her with an Arm Drag. As she gets up, I got her with a Dropkick. I grab her arm and lock in an Armbar. She struggles but makes it to the ropes, forcing a rope break.
I release the submission before kicking Natalya in the rib cage. She holds her ribs. I drag her to the middle of the ring before hitting her with a Suplex. I pin Natalya.
1…2…kickout!
We both get up. Natalya runs at me with a Clothesline, but I duck and hit her with a Scoop Slam. I climb up to the top turnbuckle. Beth climbs up onto the apron. I kick her off. Natalya climbs up and hits me with a Superplex. Natalya pins me.
1…2…kickout!
Natalya and I exchange punches. She ducks a Clothesline from me before hitting me with a Discus Clothesline and pinning me once more.
1…2…kickout!
Natalya picks me up from behind for a German Suplex. However, I elbow my way out of it and do a Standing Switch before hitting her with one and bridging into a pin.
1…2…kickout!
Beth gets up onto the apron. I throw Natalya into Beth to knock her off. When Natalya runs back in my direction, I lift her up into a Fireman's Carry position before hitting a Picture Perfect. I pin Natalya.
1…2…3!
"Here is your winner, Marissa Orton!"
I smile as the referee raises my arm in the air. I then roll out of the ring. I kick Beth in the face before grabbing a steel chair.
I roll back into the ring and start hitting Natalya with the chair repeatedly. I look at Beth as she stands up, and I continue. I finally stop before placing the chair underneath Natalya. I lift Natalya up and hit her with a Chaotic Ending onto the chair as Beth watches.
I watch from guerilla as Randy wrestles Mark Henry for the World Heavyweight Championship. Mark Henry has been dominant for the majority of the match. I didn't like how things were looking.
"Hey." A deep voice says.
I turn around to see Big Show. "Oh my gosh. How are you, Show?"
Big Show smiles. "Good. What about you? Seems like you've had a lot on your plate."
"Well, I could be better."
"I figured as much. I'm sure you're not happy about John Laurinaitis."
"I'm not. What are you doing?"
"I'm scouting this match to watch some competition. I'd ask what you're doing, but I already know you're watching your husband's match."
I nod. "Yeah. Not really doing a whole lot else."
Randy takes down Mark with a Dropkick. Then, Cody rushes down to the ring and attacks Randy, causing a disqualification. Cody and Mark gang up on Randy. Big Show moves around me to run out and help.
As I watch, John Laurinaitis stands next to me. "It's a damn shame that Randy didn't get the World Heavyweight Championship back. Isn't it? So sad."
I roll my eyes. "What do you want?"
"You know what else is a damn shame? The fact that you lost your Divas Championship at Hell in a Cell. As is the fact that you couldn't get control of Monday Night Raw and that control went to me. Man, it's been a rough couple of weeks for you. Hasn't it? What a damn shame."
I look at John. "You know what else would be a damn shame, John? If Jim Ross decided to file for wrongful termination. It'd also be a damn shame if your job as Interim General Manager for Monday Night Raw didn't last that long. I know what you've said about me, Laurinaitis. Let me remind you who you're dealing with here. I have a reputation for fighting for what I want, and I want you out. This is personal, John. If this is how you're gonna make this, you better be ready for a fight because I won't be going down peacefully."
I walk away from John Laurinaitis and pass Cody as he was heading backstage after getting beat up by Randy and Big Show. "I hope you're happy, Rhodes."
